** The ''Frozen Flowers'' short story has Hazel spend time with his sickly aunt, coming to visit her every Christmas despite the fact that as a two-legged centaur just associating with her could lead to him being shunned. He assures her that he loves her for who she is.
** The ''Vampire's Lover'' short story shows Redcurrant falling in love with Joel and even sharing a dance with him despite the fact that he can't see her, showing that there was a connection and he could feel her presence to an extent.
** The ''Rainbow Day, Feast Day'' short story shows Silky as she helps a widow in keeping up with her house after she lost her own family, as well as the fact that Spriggan continues to visit and look after her.

** [[spoiler: Apparently]] unknown to Joel is the fact that a leannán sídhe lives with him. They initially met when she was admiring Joel's rose garden, and somehow, they crossed eyes for a brief moment, despite fae being usually InvisibleToNormals. Since that day, the leannán sídhe has stayed with him, having clearly fallen in LoveAtFirstSight, but refusing to accept it, because for her kind, to love a man is the same as killing them.

* Chise stays up for five days to create the Faerie Salve, despite knowing that it was likely going to incur the wrath of their kind because she wanted Joel to see the leanan si, and makes it just in time. [[spoiler:Note that this nearly kills her, but she considers it worth it.]]
* Joel [[spoiler:explaining that he's glad the leanan si loved him because seeing her gave him a purpose to live and freely gives the last of his life to her, moving on to the afterlife without any regrets.]]
* Spriggan [[spoiler:introducing Silky to the home that Elias lives in after her clan died out, so that she wouldn't be alone--and transforming her into a house fey in the process.]]
* Elias explaining why he chooses the human world over the fae. [[spoiler:He knows the humans fear him, but they have also accepted him over and over again, so he wants to know more about them.]]

When a young Chise (who at this point is being ostracized by her adoptive family and her peers due to her ability to see spirits) stumbles upon the Mayoiga, a magical library in the forest, and develops a friendship with the librarian, he eventually gives her as a gift a book titled "The Lonely Little Star", with the message that if she keeps searching, someday she too will find someone who will care for her. At the time, Chise dismisses this as an impossible dream, to the point of abandoning the book. Years later, as she's living with Elias, "The Lonely Little Star" finds its way back to her thanks to Angelica, and she tells Elias and Ruth the story behind it. Elias says that this must be a painful memory for Chise and that Angelica shouldn't have sent her such an emotionally charged item, but Chise replies that she doesn't mind and that she even plans on reading it again in a different light. Later, Elias comments that according to his materials, those who take an item from the Mayoiga are granted good luck, and Chise agrees! She's found her child of a star after all - or rather a Child of Thorns...

** [[DamselOutOfDistress Chise breaks herself]] and Aerial out of a hostage situation, not because she was [[DeathSeeker afraid for her life]], but because Aerial was being hurt in Renfred's grip.
** Matthew's [[SingleTargetSexuality dedication to Mina]] was so well-known that when someone jokingly suggests he might have a mistress she is promptly [[DopeSlap smacked over the head]].

** Despite the FantasticRacism shown towards him by the other fae, including their own bodyguard Spriggan, Oberon and Titania still treat him as one of their own. Titania considers both him and Chise to be her own precious children.

* Chapter 9: Angelica finished preparing a special ring for Chise, which will help her reduce the strain of magical energy on her body. Elias pats Chise's head, and promises he will keep working on ways to extend her life.
** Ulysse saving Chise from the monster attacking her, despite being injured himself.

* Chapter 10.5: Elias discovers that Chise is afraid of thunderstorms and comforts her by casting a fort-like structure of sorts with his jacket and staying with her underneath it and settling her between his legs, then later admits that if Chise were to die, his life would be dreadfully dull.
** In Chise's case in the same chapter, she tells Elias that she was plagued by all sorts of magical creatures during storms when she was a child, but then says that because of Elias, she has grown not to be scared of them so much anymore and thanks him.
* Chapter 11: Ulysse holding Chise after she had been injured by [[MixAndMatchCritters Cartaphilus' chimera]]. When she wakes up, she caresses his face and states she woke up, much to Ulysse's relief, who feared he was going to lose her like Isabel.
** Even as a normal dog, [[CanineCompanion Ulysse]] would try to comfort Isabel when she was [[AllOfTheOtherReindeer teased about her hair color]]. Turns tragic [[MoodWhiplash very soon]] when Isabel suddenly dies, and Ulysse spends the rest of his life watching over her grave, [[IWIllWaitForYou waiting for her to wake up]].
** Renfres was [[AngerBornOfWorry furious with Alice for going off on her own]], but after she apologizes, he makes it clear that she is still his student and bodyguard, and expects her to do her best/
** Elias had [[HulkingOut changed]] into a monstrous form and was about to clash with Cartapfilus. Chise is able to stop Elias' rampage with a CooldownHug. Afterwards, when Elias insists on taking on a less scary shape, Chise agrees, not because he scares her, but because he is too tall like that and would have trouble fitting through the door back home.
** Chise's resolve to not let Cartaphilus take Ulysse, no matter the cost.
* Chapter 12: Elias calming Chise down after she kicked her powers into overdrive. Later on, when the effects still linger, Blue Flame lends her one of his precious coals, which helps Chise recover.
** Ulysse coming to terms with his nature, and the fact Isabel will never wake up. He asks Chise to make him her {{Familiar}}, which she accepts, because she knows what it feels like to be alone. ** While Elias wasn't giving much room to reject, Chise was more than willing to spend the night with him in his bedroom, as her presence helped soothe a physically-unstable Elias.

** Chise and Ruth finally find Elias, who had dissapeared earlier. Chise is able to express herself to him, telling him she is unhappy about him keeping secrets from her, and that she wishes to know more about him. Elias accepts, but asks for time to put his thoughts in order first.
