Clarifying the plot

Added DiffLines:

*** Not quite. The premise is that they didn't exist, period. Regardless of one's memory, one would assume that the few billion or so pieces of media that referenced the Beatles would still be around if it were an amnesia incident.

* If cigarettes don't exist, doesn't that imply tobacco isn't the major worldwide crop it's been for centuries? History would look significantly different.

* If Oasis doesn't exist in the altered universe, how could 14-year-old Jack have played "Wonderwall" at the talent show? Did he play a different song, or did Ellie and everyone else just assume that it was a song he'd written himself?

* Why would the music of the Beatles be such a hit in the modern day? It's as though the movies depicts the catalog of the Beatles as some kind of platonically perfect music that would always be universally beloved by all, instead of the public opinion of it being largely determined by the trends of the time. Thanks to SeinfeldIsUnfunny, I think most people would think that they would sound dated, comparing it to all of the music from the sixties that in our world was inspired by it.

*** If they never got famous in The Beatles, there's also at least some chance that they never left Liverpool. Paul, George, and/or Ringo could still have been living right there in Liverpool. Jack could've tried looking in a local phone book - but he was trying to recall song lyrics, so he was too busy at that time.

** Mick, Keith, and the gang could still be inspired by a different band to write their own material. There is no indication that the British Invasion itself never happened. A lot of the Stones' early hits were written by others ("Time Is On My Side," "It's All Over Now").

* So, since this movie is about a world where The Beatles is erased from existence...Wouldn't that mean stuff like music videos, stadium concerts, rooftop gigs, The Rutles, other cover bands of The Beatles, psychedelic rock, heavy metal, The Monkees (which, since The Banana Splits was based on The Monkees would technically also mean they wouldn't exist either), Nirvana, The Beach Boys, and some other stuff listed in here

* It's made clear early on that in this timeline, Music/TheRollingStones still exist. Their first hit was "I Wanna Be Your Man", written by Lennon and [=McCartney=]. If the Beatles don't exist in this universe, then how the hell did Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Co. get to the same level of fame in our timeline without their influence?

** This wasn't ever implied in the movie, but maybe it people liked the retro sound? There's tons of nostalgic pop culture these days.

* If The Beatles' later day albums didn't exist and as a result, didn't become influential with other musicians, what would've taken their place? Maybe Music/PetSounds and a finished version of Music/SMiLE, both by Music/TheBeachBoys?

** The thing is this wasnt a movie about what if the Beatles never existed, but is about a movie about s guy waking up and learning that he was the only one who remembered they existed. Examining a world where the Beatles never existed and had influence would be a completely separate movie with a different, and probably more serious tone.

** Ringo Starr currently lives in Los Angeles and Paul McCartney in New York City. Jack might not know that, and certainly can't Google it if they're not famous in this timeline, but he had no reason to assume they'd still be in Liverpool.
