** We're told several times, including by Jack, that Dr. Spaceman is an "excellent physician." In-universe, he seems to be a great doctor [[spoiler:So much so he becomes Surgeon General!]] even if his gags indicate otherwise. This show is heavy on surrealism.

** There's a fair amount of black comedy in this show. Tina Fey's sense of humor in general has a lot of black comedy in it, which can also be seen in her other works like ''Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.''

** Breaking into movies offers actors more freedom in their projects and schedule. On a sketch comedy show, you're at the whims of the writers and you're pretty much working seven days a week for much of the year. And what actor wouldn't want to win an oscar?

** Jenna's ego keeps her from choosing quality projects to work on- only ones that stroke her ego. And in every project she works on, she insists on overacting and singing when it isn't appropriate. Because of that, she is keeping herself from reaching her goal of being a huge megastar that she wishes she was.

* Even if Kaylee wasn't Hank Hooper's ''genetic'' granddaughter, why would Jack think that that would make any difference? Hooper clearly loves her and she's been his granddaughter for 15 years, so she's still "family" no matter what the [=DNA=] test said.

Hooper clearly loves her and she's been his granddaughter for 15 years, so she's still "family" no matter what the [=DNA=] test said.

The joke is that society is totally fine with [=MILF=] Island, but if it was a bunch of prepubescent girls and attractive fathers, even though it's theoretically the same thing, they would be horrified.

Even if Jack has started spoiling her since becoming rich, she carries herself — and particularly dresses — with the aristocratic manner of someone who has felt comfortable around luxury her entire life.

** MSNBC does, in fact, have conservative pundits. More to the point, though, she's on CNBC, which is completely in thrall to the business and financial interests who provide all their source material, so its talking heads, when they are allowed to express opinions, are typically quite pro-business and conservative. The Tea Party movement was named, if it did not begin, when CNBC commentator Rick Santelli went on a rant from the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange about how people whose mortgages were underwater were "losers" not deserving of the mortgage-modification help that the government was going to provide, and said that there should be a "Chicago Tea Party" against it.

** The Witness Protection Program is for witnesses, hence the name. They don't just give out new identities to everyone who's been victimized by a crime. Plus, there are plenty of real-life examples of women who've been abused by their partner but found little to no help when they went to the police. Maybe it's dark and terrifying because sometimes the world is dark and terrifying.

Hotbed for argument.

* Why does the show have so many gay jokes? It comes off as slightly homophobic with how many of them are dripping with stereotypes and no real gay supporting or main characters or positive examples.
** The show's treatment of trans* characters is much, ''much'' worse.
** No more so than anyone else is a stereotype (neurotic single woman, backwoods hick, egotistical actress, etc.). Heterosexuals don't come off as any more positive.
*** The difference there is that LGBT+ people are discriminated against, assaulted, and even murdered for who they are with unfortunate regularity, while straight people are not. There's no need for the show to contribute to the problem (and while it's doubtful that the show or the writers ''intended'' to be homophobic, it's still an issue).
**** umm...Many stereotypes are discriminated against (and assaulted or murdered) for various reasons in many places throughout the world. One stereotype shouldn't be wrapped up in cotton wool just because some people are whiners. This is clearly a show where it doesn't matter if you are nerdy, gay, black, smart, old, etc. All are treated in the same sense of "lets laugh at it". That's called equality, what you suggest is encouraging segregation.
*** "Can't we all just not get along?"
** Jack's business associate Gretchen Thomas is shown as normal woman who is gay. In fact, she goes out of her way to explain to Liz that she has no interest in "dating" someone who is fundamentally straight.
*** The problem with that is that episode is her only apearance in the series and the only out and proud homosexual in the series. Also with the crack against bisexuality in "Kidney Now" there seems to be a stigma agaisnt non heterosexual relationships overall.

** Maybe he's a more complex character than you give him credit for. In any case, Jack is part of the corporate right, not the religious right. Several episodes make it clear that he was RaisedCatholic, but is no longer really religious. (And if he ''was'' still a practicing Catholic, then it's worth pointing out that the Vatican actually endorses the theory of evolution.)

* How did the fireworks episode even happen? Even in small towns, there are licenses, permits, and zoning regulations that require lots of paperwork in order to put on even a modest fireworks display. The fact the mayor calls Jack forcing him to shut it down shows he didn't go through the proper channels. If ''anybody'' could make that happen without all the bureaucracy, it would be Jack Donaghy. Not to mention Rockefeller Plaza would have to be closed off for safety which would require ''some'' kind of public service to be involved. That said, it seems unlikely any of that could have happened, let alone in NYC, without city officials giving the green light.
