** Look at it this way: what happens if the devs wanted to create a sync pair with middling attack and defense stats but specialized in creating fields? What role should it be? The only possible one is Tech, and if it kept getting used as the dumping ground for sync pairs not specializing in attack or defense, the role would quickly become bloated. Creating extra roles is a way to avoid that.
