** If I may wager a guess, her father's a UN diplomat and Mithril is known by various international organizations. You never know who can put two and two together. Mithril is also founded as a secret society after World War II and was needed to keep an eye on the world pre-Cold War [[spoiler:after Amalgam, the original group, went rogue and worked with the other side]].

*** Plus in Japan, air guns are the norm. Having an actual weapon with you (unless the police know you have it and they're fine with it and even at that, it's limited to a few choice weapons) is asking yourself to get screwed in the prison system.

The Firearms and Swords Control Law's penalties play a role in getting almost all gun crimes down.

* Why didn't Mithril ever tell Chidori about their mission to protect her? Seriously, what reason is there not to let her know? It would make their mission a lot easier if she knew she needed protection and could work with the assigned guards. It certainly would have saved Sosuke and his team a lot of headache.

** The anime is based on a series of novels. They have been initially adapted to manga, then into anime. When TSR ended, the novels weren't finished yet. The last volume has been released in August 2010. Since then, there has been some talk about the KyoAni studios making another series, but they have been caught up with other projects. But they do have the rights to animate the novels, and they are very good friends with the author, so there are still good chances of a sequel.

* So...is the anime over? they're just going to introduce a sweet new villain on the last episode and just...end? dick move, FMP. Dick move. If i'm wrong, please tell me, but an anime as popular as this shouldn't end in the middle of the story. i was expecting to see something about how the show got cancelled or something, but apparently it just...ended. can anybody shed some light on this for me?

Cleanup; JBM is not meant to be a general complaint space, but a Q&A space to clear up questions about a work.

* The Genre Shift to Super Robot. I'm sorry, I was fine with it before that, but the idea that the robots are powered by the user's fighting spirit broke my suspension of disbelief into a million pieces. (The LampshadeHanging afterwards helped a little, but not much.) Also, the fact that Tessa is actually in charge of Mithril, instead of just the Tuatha de Dannan. (How, exactly, did she end up promoted ahead of Andrei?)
** The Lambda Driver's been a concrete plot element from the word go. It's impossible to call it a GenreShift when it was there to begin with. And Tessa is decidedly ''not'' in charge of Mithril. That's some dude named Lord Mallory, I think. Tessa is high up (or possibly in charge of) the ''research division''. You know, because she's a Whispered. The TDD is part of the research division. Also, I can't help but think that Kalinin is good where he is. As ex-Spetsnaz, he strikes me as a small-unit type of guy, rather than the broad-strokes type of a General or Admiral.
** The Lambda Driver is not powered by fighting spirit per say. It is triggered by genuine need of it (the operator or someone the operator wants to protect is in mortal danger) and the person using it must have exceptional concentration or it won't work. Not sure how to explain why it didn't work when Mao was injured just before they captured Gauran.

* How does Sosuke have so much patience with Kaname? He can't drop a pencil without her beating the shit out of him. It's amazing that he didn't backhand her like I probably would have by episode 5.
** Tessa is in many ways worse. She constantly externalises all her failings as a commanding officer onto Sosuke, beats him over the head with his very heavily repressed emotions whilest simultaneously calling him unproffesional, continues to weaponise her feelings for him in a way to shame him. Sosuke's bodyguard romance with kaname is always downplayed and he always tries to act proffesional, Tessa consistantly victimises Sosuke and throws her feelings in his face, going so far as to sexually harass him in season 1 after requisitioning military hardware to settle a personal dispute with a soldier under her command, equipment she is not qualified to use. The only reason she's in command is because she has informed genius and is a living Macguffin. In Sosuke's shoes, following Wraith adopting the case in second raid, I'd have resigned and chewed out Tessa over her emotionally biased decissions and outright bullying during the ensuing argument. She isn't an officer, she's a walking joke.
** It's unfortunate you see that way, because, well, he honestly ''deserves'' some of the beatings, I mean come on, that dude regulary destroys school property for (at least to normal people) extremely trivial reasons. Just see his interactions with other characters, she's fine, it's just that Sousuke is way too crazy for civilian standard.

** Two things. Firstly, it is demonstrated that when it was revealed, the Arbalest had to be activated via a passcode given by Sosuke that was set to his voice. Presumably, the security system was designed so that if Sosuke didn't reach it in time, it wouldn't have activated if another pilot tried to access it, or it might have even self-destructed. Secondly, the first time they do this, it is a good idea to keep in mind the fact that Tessa and Kalinin were bending the rules to begin with by trying to supply any aid to Sosuke and the others, operational procedure dictating that they should've already gotten the hell out of there. Since they were bucking the rules already, they probably figured it wouldn't hurt to take a leap of faith and pull a very risky maneuver that could cause a great deal of trouble if it failed. Fortunately for them, their risk paid off. But I wouldn't be surprised if they had a few contingency plans in place in case it didn't work.
