[[WhatAnIdiot Ollie is thrilled]], but confused as to why he's only finding out about her now, when she's clearly not an infant. Busch's blunt excuse? "Because I didn't want her to know who her father was till she was old enough to stand the shock."

** Similarly, the commander at a nearby fort attacked by the Riffs for 20 days hears reinforcements coming to save him and his men. He flings open the door in joy-then it turns out to be ''just'' Laurel and Hardy, separated from their troops by a sandstorm.

* In ''Pack Up Your Troubles'', there's the escalation of reactions to the boys' attempts to find the parents of their fallen war buddy Eddie Smith so they can unite them with Eddie's daughter (with the name "Smith" all they have to go on). The first Smith they visit is obviously not Eddie's father (he's black, Eddie was white), but politely accepts Ollie's apology for the mix-up. The second is a boxer who thinks the boys are trying to blackmail him, and pops them both in the nose. And the third...hasn't lived in the house listed in the address book for years, but the family currently living there just happens to be holding a wedding that day, with the patriarch's daughter marrying a man named [[BreakingTheOneSteveLimit Eddie]]...and the boys show up claiming to have "Eddie's baby"...

Ollie snatches his hat back before it's completely gone, but takes a curious bite himself.
** Stan's "magic lighter".

Ollie tries using the phone, unaware the line's been severed, and after a long conversation realizes he's been talking to Stanley...Ollie chuckles merrily, then ''[[DisproportionateRetribution throttles]]'' him.

* In ''[[Film/TheMusicBox The Music Box]]'' they spend the first half of the film getting a piano up a rather large flight of stairs. When they finally reach the top, [[NowYouTellMe a postman tells them they could have just gone around and up a nearby hill]]. So what do they do? ''[[WhatAnIdiot They take the piano all the way back down and go round]]''.
** The Professor's OverlyLongName: Professor Theodore Von Schwarzenhoffen, M.D., A.D., D.D.S., F.L.D., F.F.F and F.
** The first time the piano falls down, the nurse they were trying to help laughs at them. So Stan ''[[LiteralAssKicking kicks her ass.]]'' And then she slaps Stan, and when she sees Ollie laughing, she breaks a baby bottle over his head.

* ''Film/BigBusiness''. The whole damn thing, from the increasing levels of property damage to how fired up the homeowner, Stan and Ollie are.
