* Before ultimately passing it on to Music/KellyClarkson, Avril was going to release "Breakaway" herself, and her old demo version eventually leaked in 2014. A very slight lyrical change occurred between Avril's 2002 demo and Kelly's 2004 official release of the song: "When the snow would fall down" became "When the ''rain'' would fall down". Changing the form of precipitation seems a little arbitrary at first, but probably has to do with the fact that it was originally an autobiographical song: Avril's version mentions snow because she probably had the weather of her native Ontario in mind; It may have been changed to "rain" because Kelly could relate it more to her own childhood in Texas, or just to make it a more universally relatable lyric in general.

When the 20th anniversary of Let Go released Breakaway was then added as a track and got it's own lyric video signifying Avril did not forget about this song.
