She meets a reporter who has been assigned the story, and together -- with another seafaring couple -- they go to find the island Matool.

Problem: Matool is a cursed place, where the dead rise to attack the living. Dr. Menard is on the island to investigate why. His high-strung wife wants to leave for fear of being attacked. But hey, they're only dead dudes... [[ZombieApocalypse what could they possibly do]]?

* OnlySaneMan: Paola was fighting with her husband for refusing to drop his MadScientist tendencies and flee the island while they still had a chance.

** [[DidNotDoTheResearch Uh...what?]] Paola definitely believed in the zombies [[OnlySaneMan to the point where she was screaming at her husband]] for refusing to drop his MadScientist tendencies and flee the island while they still had a chance. It might make her a bit of a shrew, though that's understandable considering she's been living for months under constant threat of a ZombieApocalypse, but it doesn't make her an asshole by any stretch of the imagination.

** It's worth noting that Peter's ankle wound was incurred by an ankle grab, not a bite.

* KilledOffForReal: Paola [[spoiler:and Dr. Menard]] are both killed in ways that would make it impossible for them to come back as zombies; [[spoiler:Dr. Menard]] was bitten in the face twice, but Paola flat-out becomes an item on the zombies' menu.

* OnlySaneMan: Dr. Menard's wife wants them to get the hell out of Dodge, but he's not having any of it.

* FlatEarthAtheist: Paola in ''Zombi 2'' and General Morton in ''Zombi 3''.

* LaserGuidedKarma: She who doesn't believe in zombies and vocally denies their existence will herself be done in by a zombie, as Paola learned the hard way in one of the film's most famous scenes.
