* TastesLikeDiabetes: Being an adaptation of a girl-oriented cartoon about female rockstars in a hip '80s setting, this was to be expected. A abundant array of colorful and glittery makeup including pinks, blues, oranges, and greens which adorn all of the costumes and wigs and even the instruments. The main cast is almost entirely female, and it's populated by a bunch of sugary, bubblegum pop songs. Yeah, at the very least, this film is unabashedly girly and it knows it.

* JustEatGilligan:

** The film features a number of [=YouTube=] videos of people talking how much they love Jem. These are from a contest the film held asking fans to make videos about why they love the series, meaning they were talking about ''any other incarnation of the series'' but this one.

* {{Ephebophile}}: Chris Pratt who claims in an interview that he dated the teenage Jem.[[note]]Taken out of context from a real life interview where he claimed he used to date his sister's Jem doll[[/note]]

* RaceLift: Shana goes from definitely black to being AmbiguouslyBrown.
** Rio was Latino in the cartoon but - as he's Erica's son now - he's presumably half Latino like his actor Ryan Guzman (who is half-Mexican on his father's side).
** Aja, too, was Chinese in the cartoon but is here played by half-Japanese half-white (and left-handed) Music/HayleyKiyoko.

* RelatedInTheAdaptation: Bailey is just the girls' house mother in the cartoon. Now she's Jerrica and Kimber's aunt, as well as Shana and Aja's foster mother. Rio is now the son of the owner of Starlight Enterprises.

* TheUnfavorite: Kimberly wasn't as cherished by her father as Jerrica was, at least going by Jerrica being the only one their father's recording specifically mentions.

* AdaptationalHeroism: While she's still pretty awful, Erica Raymond isn't quite the CorruptCorporateExecutive who regularly endangered the heroes' lives that her animated counterpart was.

Meanwhile, Erica Raymond was mentioned in dialogue as somebody who is negatively impacting the music industry. The audience never gets to see any of this.

** In addition to that, Jerrica doesn't even attempt to find a solution to her family's financial woes. So she signs up for being a solo act without consulting anyone.

* YouDidntAsk: Jerrica doesn't even attempt to explain why she signed off on that solo contract, so the other bandmates hate her and quit. Just think of all the moping that could have been avoided if she just explained her well intentioned reasoning.

* AgeLift: Inverted. Jerrica is in her early twenties in the cartoon. Here she and the rest of the Holograms are teenagers.

** Jerrica becomes a web sensation after she uploads one video that only gets 36,000 views. That wouldn't be considered very much and while Erica Raymond could be looking out for new talent, it's odd that one video would produce legions of screaming fans that show up for the first concert.

''Jem and the Holograms'' is a 2015 film [[InNameOnly very, very,]] ''[[InNameOnly very]]'' loosely based on [[WesternAnimation/JemAndTheHolograms the '80s cartoon of the same name]] and the very first film by Creator/{{Hasbro}}'s "Allspark Pictures" studio. It was made with a budget of $5 million.
