* Characters: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Poland
* Synopsis: The SCP Foundation discovers (and abducts) the Baltics, and proceeds to conduct experiments on them. As their work progresses, however, things start going inexplicably wrong.
* Comments: The story is surprisingly to-the-point and covers both the Foundation and Baltics well enough. There's also a mix of black humor (the Foundation refusing to [[spoiler: conduct bio-terror on the Nations' peoples]] to see what would kill them, as it's a ''civil'' organization) and woobieness (the Nations become increasingly deranged and aggressive). Towards the end, without spoiling anything, let's just say that it had it coming.

**Agreed on all counts. By the end of the fic, you don't know whether to laugh at the poor man's misfortune, or help him pay for therapy sessions. And for more love, the author De-anoned herself on her ff.net page, where you can find even more lovely stories. [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/950433/StarsOfYaoi StarsOfYaoi]], and maybe I'm just gushing, but I absolutely adore every request she gets her hands on.

* ''Characters'': Poland, Lithuania, OC!humans, main ensemble
* ''Synopsis'': Polish secretary Tomasz Finley finds himself on the fast track to the higher echelons of politics. There's one catch: he's secretly the love child of Poland and Lithuania. Fearing for their son, the truth is kept from him and the public. But not for long.
* ''Comments'': It's a nicely paced and well-developed story that alternates between Tomasz's "normal" point of view and that of his ''true'' parents. The only gripe here, really, is the typos (especially the earlier parts). Otherwise, it's a good read.

** Solandra: A warning note - this fic is '''''THE''''' most controversial one on the APH KinkMeme. Either you'll think it's a great and wonderfully detailed piece of FetishFuel taken UpToEleven, or you'll think that it's a disgusting piece of CanonDefilement that [[RevengeFic takes sadistic pleasure in giving America "what he deserves"]], [[YouFailEconomicsForever fails economics forever]], and [[{{Ukefication}} massively ukefies]] America and [[RonTheDeathEater assassinates almost every single other character into]] {{Complete Monster}}s solely to fetishize rape. Just be forewarned that this fill is ''not'' one you'll read for the plot, characterization, or history - if you don't find the gangrape kinky, you won't find anything else to like about this fic.

* ''Comments'': Your Milage May Vary a little bit more on this story. Though it's still amazingly written, there are some alternate character interpretations going on. (i.e. A complete bastard empire England at some points, and a slightly more serious, concientious America. Justified in that he wasn't quite as obnoxious right when he became a country. No "World HERO!" for him back then, he was isolationist!) But the relationship between England and Colony!America is written beautifully, and in the end, you're not sure quite who to feel sorry for at their falling out, or who to blame. Truly a heartwrenching story at points. Again, this girl is one of my favorite authours, and her writing talent really becomes apparent in this story.

* I've already recced a Greece/Japan work of hers in the Shipping Fics section, but the entirety of her APH works seriously deserves to be recced here in full. She's a very prolific author and has written loads of fills for the Hetalia KinkMeme, including some absolutely ''fantastic'' ones for Greece/Japan ([[http://measuringlife.livejournal.com/572481.html some]] [[http://measuringlife.livejournal.com/566038.html examples]] [[http://measuringlife.livejournal.com/576214.html linked]] [[http://measuringlife.livejournal.com/564778.html for your]] [[http://measuringlife.livejournal.com/563174.html convenience]]) and absolutely cute ones for France/Canada ([[http://measuringlife.livejournal.com/568604.html more]] [[http://measuringlife.livejournal.com/557704.html examples]]). Her imagery is beautiful and she has a great grasp on the characters and what makes them click together. * ''Characters and Pairings'': Denmark/Norway, hints of Sweden/Finland, but romance is ''not'' the main focus here. Throw and Iceland and a Sealand into the mix, and it's mainly about the familial relationship between all the Nordic countries (plus Sealand).
* ''Synopsis'': When Denmark doesn't show up for a meeting, the other Nordics check up on him. It turns out, he's been ensnared by the [[{{Superman}} Black Mercy]], a plant that kills its victims while showing them a dream of their heart's desire. ''And that's just the tip of the iceberg.''
* ''Comments'': Just plain ''brilliant'' characterization, especially since the Nordics are some of the rarer characters to find fic written about (and even rarer to find written ''well''). Along with everything else, there's also very well-written PsychologicalHorror. Some of the images in this fic WILL disturb you.
** Ardis: This is a good story, but the characterization of Denmark and Norway felt so wrong at times it was difficult to read. I still enjoyed it though, which goes to show that perfection isn't always necessary. Seriously, give it a try, it's really well written.

* This Troper disagrees. When I was reading this fic I couldn't help but think that even the authors themselves don't know how this story is going to end and make it up as they go. And this is one of the biggest no-no's ever for me, because of the risk that the plot will get derailed and the authors will forget what they wanted to tell in the story in the first place. But if one doesn't mind it, I guess it might be quite enjoyable story...

* ''Synopsis'': The fate of a nation can rest on the outcome of a single battle. In the age of Napoleon, the fate of Europe itself hangs in the balance. Amid shifting alliances and desperate times, only one thing is certain: it's going to be a long war.
* ''Comments'': An excellent work-in-progress about the Napoleonic Wars. Firebirdie's characterisation is spot on with everyone, but in particular this fic contains one of the best interpretations of Liechtenstein that This Troper has ever read. This work is clearly very well researched and succeeds in being both well-written and educational.

[[CaptainObvious A bit of a DarkFic, due to the whole Mafia thing,]] but it still manages to be hilarious and heartwarming in true Hetalia fashion. * ''Pairings'': Spain/Belarus, with onesided Russia/Belarus and Romano/Spain
* ''Synopsis'': Belarus is rejected by Russia once again. Spain witnesses this and makes friendly conversation with her. Eventually, this leads to an unexpected romance, making Romano and Russia realize their feelings for their lovers. Romano accepts Spain's relationship more-or-less quietly; Russia does not. The two's relationship could begin World War III - Russia wants his sister, and Spain refuses to back down.
* ''Comments'': This is a wonderful fic that explores the possibilities of an unlikely pairing and makes it work. The author is amazing, with her ability to develop the relationships and personalities of the characters so effortlessly, and she'll have you hooked right from the beginning. None of the characters - no, not even Russia, who tends to be Flanderized into a coldhearted jerkass when portrayed as the...antagonist, so to speak; nor Romano, who is turned into a whiny brat with an abrasive, abusive personality when not paired with Spain (and sometimes even then) - are shown in a completely harsh way, with believable personalities and a relatively positive side to them. Overall, this would be something you should read if you have the time. Also, Spain and Belarus are adorable together.

* ''Synopsis'': "The entire world of nations falls under the shadow of destruction. How will they manage to repair what seems to be utterly destroyed?" Nuclear war breaks out and ends in a matter of weeks, and the remaining nations are left to pick up the pieces.
* ''Comments'': I know, I know, right? Another post nuclear war fic? But this is probably one of my favorite Hetalia fanfics of all time. This authour is incredibly skilled, with a writing style that is vivid and engaging. The characters are kept surprisingly well in character for a fic with such a dark premise. (Canada in particular is very well depicted. He's avoided falling prey both to becoming incredibly whiney or a complete deadpan snarker.) The entire fic isn't angsty, though. It's got some very good humorous, heartwarming, and actiony scenes, all of which play out perfectly. (And slowly, so very slowly, we're starting to see a few romancy scenes. Though they haven't overtaken the fic.) The entire story eases along at a very solid, interesting pace. Nothing is rushed, but at the same time, I don't think it's ever dragged. And she's been updating fairly reguarly (about once a week or so) for a solid few months. The only thing to watch out for I think would be a slightly OOC interperetation of Russia at points, though it's pretty well justified, I think.

* ''Characters'': America and England, mostly.
* ''Pairings'': US/UK. But the story so far seems to focus more on America's history and less on romance (Well, so far at least), so I'll categorize this under General.
* ''Synopsis'': Basically, a bunch of snippets of America's history throughout the years, including the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Louisiana Purchase. It's much darker and much more on the serious side than her other Hetalia fic, "From the Ashes".
No "HERO!" for him back then, he was isolationist!) But the relationship between England and Colony!America is written beautifully, and in the end, you're not sure quite who to feel sorry for at their falling out, or who to blame. Truly a heartwrenching story at points. Again, this girl is one of my favorite authours, and her writing talent really becomes apparent in this story.
