It is also through this lesson that helps Marinette win the Plant Badge]].

* SiblingYinYang: The decided dynamic between Juleka and [[spoiler: Luka]]. Though they are said to have similar tastes in fashion, Juleka is a known ShrinkingViolet who likes and owns [[NightmareFetishist Ghost-type Pokémon]] while [[spoiler: Luka]] is more outgoing and charming and specializes with [[OurFairiesAreDifferent Fairy-types]], [[spoiler: which fits as his new role as the Laverre City Gym Leader]]. However, [[spoiler: Luka]] does focus on the [[TheFairFolk more realistic and darker aspects of Fairy-types]], constantly referring to their "hidden fangs" [[spoiler: during Marinette's Gym battle against him in Chapter 46]].

* LeeroyJenkins: Downplayed. Liepard Noir is known to be reckless, but in Chapter 42, [[spoiler: he immediately starts attacking Bubbler X's Mega Blastoise upon sending out Gallade without bothering to listen to Lady Ledian. And against [[MightyGlacier Mega Blastoise]], Gallade's attacks barely scratch his defenses. His carelessness also allows his Gallade to be confused after one hit from Mega Blastoise's Water Pulse. They both get better after [[GetAHoldOfYourselfMan a slap from Lady Ledian and Gardevoir]]]].

* LikeParentLikeChild: Apparently, having the idea to go defend others by dressing up as a Pokémon inspired superhero is something both Marinette [[spoiler: and her father]] have in common.

** Nathaniel is Trevor in terms of long red hair and [[TheQuietOne being generally quiet]].
** Alix is Korrina, a roller-blading {{Tomboy}} that, at least in this story, comes from a family of Mega Evolution users.
** Lila is a mixture of [[NoSenseOfPersonalSpace Miette]] and [[TheRival Paul]], the latter in terms of her bitter rivalry with Marinette.
** Max is a mixture of [[TheSmartGuy Clemont]] and [[TheStrategist Conway]]. Coincidentally, there is a Pokémon character named Max, May's younger brother in the anime, who is also smart and a bit of a know-it-all.
** Chloé is Gary before he TookALevelInKindness, the [[ArrogantKungFuGuy arrogant]] [[TheRival rival]] that has had [[{{Jerkass}} an antagonistic history]] [[TheBully with the main character]] before the story begins. She also shares some characteristics with [[ItsAllAboutMe Jessie]], being catty and haughty.
** Kim is [[HotBlooded Stephan]], the [[CompetitionFreak competitive]] [[LovableJock jock]].
** Alec is [[TheDandy Monsieur Pierre]].
** Mireille is a mixture of [[IdolSinger Aria and Lisia]], the former since she's the current Kalos Queen.
** Jagged Stone is a Dragon Expert and a rock star, much like Ryuki from Sun & Moon.
** Sabrina is the [[SubmissiveBadass James]] to Chloé's Jessie on top of having [[GreenThumb an affinity towards Grass Pokémon]] like him, having started with a Bulbasaur and her father being a Grass Gym Leader.
** Team Akuma is one for Team Flare. [[spoiler: Safe to say that Gabriel is one for Lysandre now with TheReveal at the end of Chapter 50]].
** [[AnnoyingYoungerSibling Ella and Etta]], Alya's [[AlwaysIdenticalTwins younger twin sisters]], seem to be [[GenkiGirl channeling]] [[CheerfulChild Harper and Sarah]], Lana's younger sisters from Sun & Moon. This is particularly evident when they [[AndCallHimGeorge yank Tikki out of the air to play with her]].
** [[BrattyHalfPint Manon]] is one of Bonnie, being a young CheerfulChild relative to the current Lumiose Gym Leader, who happens to be her mother, Nadja. [[spoiler: Her mother even agrees to capture a wild Dedenne that Manon befriended for her.]]
** Nathalie seems to be filling in as Malva's role as an Elite Four [[PlayingWithFire Fire Specialist]]. [[spoiler: It fits her well considering Malva's involvement with Team Flare as she's shown to be involved working with Poison Moth, who is Gabriel Agreste, at the end of Chapter 50]].
** Wang Cheng fills the role of Siebold as Elite Four [[MakingASplash Water Master]] and SupremeChef.
** Armand D'Argencourt is Wikstrom, the chivalrous [[ExtraOreDinary Steel Specialist]] who's themed in medieval knights.
** Kagami is a mixture of [[BloodKnight Alain]] and [[GenerationXerox Dawn]], the former in terms of her no-nonsense personality while the latter reminded the author of [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair her blue hair... Well, dark-blueish anyway]]. Also, in this story, [[spoiler: she was born and raised in Sinnoh like Dawn and from the author's profile page, she owns an Empoleon, the fully evolved form of Dawn's starter, Piplup]].

* SmallNameBigEgo: Being the daughter of the current president of the Pokémon community resulted in Chloé believing she's the best trainer to everyone except for [[MoralityPet Adrien]]. So far she hasn't won a single battle onscreen and Marinette proved to be a better trainer than her.
* SmugSnake:
** Chloé of course, who always acts that her classmates bar Adrien are [[SmallNameBigEgo beneath her despite having a less than stellar win record so far]]. Having Snivy as her starter wasn't already a hint to her snotty attitude. [[spoiler: After her [[BreakTheHaughty first humiliating loss against Marinette thanks to her Servine refusing to listen to her]], Chloé may have become more serious in training]].
** Despite being a skilled trainer said to be a greater adversary for Marinette combined with her experience, Lila arguably qualifies as this. She doesn't stop to flaunt her accomplishments, enjoys pushing Chloé or Marinette's buttons for her own amusement due to her experience as a Trainer. She even goes as far as to [[spoiler: steal Adrien's SacredFirstKiss forcibly because of her own entitlement]]. When she's put in a lower or uncomfortable position [[spoiler: such as Adrien's [[MamaBear Marowak]] [[HumiliationConga nearly hitting her in retaliation for violating Adrien's personal space, Lady Ledian exposing her lies in front of Adrien, or falling victim as Team Akuma's latest Bond Hybrid]]]], Lila loses her smug and sly demeanor. [[spoiler: Chapter 50 firmly pushes her as this when Alya reveals her discovery on Lila's past League Challenge records show that she isn't an impressive trainer as she makes herself out to be]].

* TechnicianVersusPerformer: In general, Marinette is the Performer to Adrien’s Technician. But in their hero costumes, Lady Ledian focuses more on tactics while Liepard Noir, despite being [[InformedAttribute highly educated on Pokémon moves and abilities]], is more bold and reckless in his battle style.

* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Adrien’s Purrloin/Liepard loves Moomoo Farm cheese. Likewise, Marinette’s Ledyba/Ledian is said to enjoy Poké Puffs aside from cookies.

* VillainWithGoodPublicity: [[spoiler: Similar to main series, Gabriel Agreste is both the Kalos Champion and a famous fashion designer, and is also the mysterious masked man known as Poison Moth; the leader of the terrorist group Team Akuma]].
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: [[spoiler: Although she isn't Adrien's girlfriend, in Chapter 41, the audience are spilt on Adrien's performance after the exhibition match and several trainers begin dissing Adrien. * WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Despite her significant rivalry with Marinette, Chloé hasn't been seen by anyone, nor has she made a full-screen appearance [[spoiler: since her [[CurbstompBattle major loss to Marinette]] at Coumarine City in Chapter 27. Sabrina was talking to her over the phone during the Team Akuma attack aftermath in Chapter 40, but not even she knows where Chloé is at that point]].

* WhenYouComingHomeDad: Just like in the show, Gabriel is rarely around Adrien's life, always busy with his role as the Kalos Champion and promoting his Pokémon-inspired clothing line overseas. In fact, [[spoiler: he left Adrien's [[TrainingFromHell strict and harsh training schedule]] to his assistant Nathalie]]. In Chapter 41, [[spoiler: Adrien attempts to ask his father on if he could visit him more often before their exhibition match begun, only for his request to fall on deaf ears]].

* YourMindMakesItReal: [[spoiler: The new powers gained by Lila/Zorombra and Zoroark as part of their becoming the latest Bond Hybrid in Chapter 48. The illusions her Zoroark cast are so powerful that even if the victim knows they're not real, their brains are convinced they're being attacked, inflicting real pain as they perceive. Her illusions also play upon the afflicted's emotions, such as making Lady Ledian think that Liepard Noir was betraying her for Zorombra or that Adrien was about to be thrown into a dangerous machine in the Poké Ball Factory]].

* AHandfulForAnEye: Not exactly for an eye, but [[spoiler: it served as part of Marinette's tactic in countering Nadja's Electric Pokémon in their Gym battle [[ChekhovsGun (which was discovered during her practice battle against Alya and Electabuzz)]] by having Tikki punch up dirt and cover them in it to hinder their electricity. It was described as "a crude form of Mud Sport," [[FridgeBrilliance which weakens electric power]]. It worked on Emolga.]]
* HateSink: [[spoiler: Lila]] has already been given this treatment in the main series by the fandom due to her interference with the infamous Love Square, but there's no doubt she's gone even lower in many readers' eyes due to [[spoiler: the audacity she had in throwing herself at Adrien and [[ForcefulKiss stealing]] his SacredFirstKiss while Marinette watched in her hiding place]].

* HeWillNotCrySoICryForHim: In Chapter 41, [[spoiler: After Adrien's loss against his father with the addition of Gabriel's harsh TheReasonYouSuckSpeech, he retreats to his favorite spot in Lumiose City's natural park. However, as the Champion Agreste's son, [[StepfordSmiler he can't cry in front of anyone]], which Marinette soon noticed. When Marinette finds him, she realizes she's crying for him]].

She feels that Liepard Noir would be disappointed that Lady Ledian's civilian identity is just a clumsy girl with no real desire ToBeAMaster other than use it to impress her crush.
** Adrien hides his insecurities in regards to the expectations forced upon him to succeed his father. As Liepard Noir, he takes several jabs at his civilian identity as seen in Chapter 32.

* IJustWantToHaveFriends:
** Adrien's reason for joining the Academy prior to the story.
** In Chapter 30, [[spoiler: Sabrina shows shades of it due to her association with [[AlphaBitch Chloé]]]]. [[TheQuietOne Nathaniel]], of all people, points it out.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: [[SilentSnarker Plagg]], who is described to be the least social Pokémon, [[FoodAsBribe requires to be fed Moo Moo Farm cheese]] [[BrilliantButLazy to be put into action]], and seems to give Adrien [[CatsAreMean attitude]] at times while [[ItAmusedMe enjoying his frustrated reactions]]. But he does have a strong sense of loyalty to those he considers friends, particularly [[IfItsYouItsOkay Tikki]], and does care about Adrien. He was described as [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness "uncharacteristically serious and determined"]] when [[spoiler: facing Team Akuma for the first time in Chapter 20]] as they were a threat to his Trainer and friends and appeared genuinely happy for Adrien by the end of Chapter 34, giving him a nod of satisfaction [[spoiler: after escorting Marinette home]].

* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: Rose and Juleka based on their appearance, personality, Pokémon and Showcase performance. Even Alya described Rose as "lovable and full of energy" and Juleka as a "mysterious beauty whose performance will leave you wanting more" respectively.

* MamaBear: Marinette in regards to [[AdorablyPrecociousChild Togepi]], the youngest member of her team. [[spoiler: Her nurturing nature allowed Togepi to evolved into Togetic]].
* MasterOfIllusion: Aside from [[FantasticFoxes fox archetypes]] according to WordOfGod (via the author's bio), Lila's team also consists of Pokémon associated with illusions and deception. [[spoiler: Even when transformed into a Bond Hybrid, Lila specializes in [[YourMindMakesItReal powerful illusions]] due to being bonded with her Zoroark]].

* MissingMom: It's still with the case of Adrien that his mother disappeared prior to his entering the Lumiose Academy. Unlike in the original show where she went missing not too long ago, she was missing for four years prior to the story.
* MoralityPet:

* OneManArmy: Nino fends off a horde of trainers who want to challenge Adrien to Pokémon battles so that he may be able to take a break. [[spoiler: Despite tiring out, he managed to hold his own long enough for the trainers to finally give up pursuing Adrien until he leaves Lumiose City.]]
* OnlyFriend: Chloé is this to Sabrina and before his enrollment to the Academy, Adrien. In Sabrina's case it gets [[DeconstructedTrope deconstructed]] [[spoiler: after she hasn't heard from Chloé since her loss to Marinette]] where it's clear that Sabrina is ''very'' dependent on her and has no idea where to go or what to do that doesn't involve Chloé.

* ParentalNeglect: Like in the original show, Gabriel is distant from his son Adrien, only checking up on him so often in regards to grooming Adrien to succeed him and become the next Kalos Champion.

** Gabriel, who's goal in life is to achieve beauty and perfection.
** Marinette has some shades of this [[NotSoDifferent similar to her idol]].

* ThePrankster:
** [[spoiler: Fennekin]] from Professor Damocles' lab enjoys pulling immature pranks on visitors. She does it a lot on Marinette after [[spoiler: joining Alya's team as Trixx, but according to Alya, she disciplined her Pokémon to play less pranks on her]].
** And then Alya catches a [[spoiler: [[ShockAndAwe Rotom]]]] in Chapter 49, a Pokémon that's naturally mischievous. The author attributes Alya having two mischievous Pokémon to her [[TricksterTwins younger twin sisters]].
* PsychosomaticSuperpowerOutage: [[spoiler: This seems to be the case with Marinette's Gardevoir being unable to maintain her [[SuperMode Mega Evolution]] for an entire battle since the Lila incident in Chapter 48. The narration has described how Gardevoir's psychic powers [[PsychoactivePowers are dependent on Marinette's emotional stability]] and has warned that negative emotions Marinette harbors would bring disunity to their bond]].
* PungeonMaster: Adrien, as Liepard Noir, tosses out Pokémon puns instead of regular puns, which still induces a LamePunReaction for Lady Ledian, aka Marinette. Strangely enough, he tossed out a few Poképuns as himself early on in the story. Marinette’s reaction towards Adrien, however, appears to zigzag between groans and girlish giggles.

** Zigzagged. Marinette is the emotional Red Oni to Adrien’s reserved Blue Oni. However, Lady Ledian is the collected Blue Oni compared to the reckless Red Oni that is Liepard Noir.
** Kim is the hotheaded and brash Red Oni to Max's collected and strategic Blue Oni.
** Rose is the energetic and bubbly Red Oni to Juleka's shy and introverted Blue Oni.

** Plagg's Assist is a rare move that allows him to use any move among Adrien's team and results vary.

[[spoiler: Although he seemed fine if the boy Trainers talking about her challenged him to a Pokémon battle since it would [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown allow him to vent out more stored frustration]]]].

* AbusiveParents: Just like in the show, while he's not physically abusive, Gabriel can be emotionally abusive when grooming Adrien to become his successor. Aside from micromanaging his son's life in order to succeed him as Kalos Champion, [[spoiler: he posed a challenge to Trainers to be merciless to his son if they aspire to compete in the Kalos League. Basically sending a horde of trainers to challenge his son in order to test his son's abilities]]. Moreover Nino reveals in Chapter 41 the details of Adrien's [[TrainingFromHell training]] when he was around Manon's age. [[spoiler: Specifically, Gabriel had his assistant Nathalie oversee Adrien's battle training under his supervision while [[ToughLove ordering her to not hold back]], [[WouldHurtAChild even if he was a child back then]]]].

** Marinette wished she and Adrien were this, and she kind of got her wish, [[ZigZagged zig zagged]] however. Problem is, like in the show, Marinette aka Lady Ledian is in love with Adrien while Adrien aka Liepard Noir is in love with Lady Ledian.

** Marinette could only handle so much of hearing others belittle Adrien, as the audience in Chapter 41 soon experienced [[TranquilFury via her Gardevoir's Psychic]].
** Threatening his friends, [[spoiler: particularly Nino when Team Akuma got to him in Chapter 42,]] was enough to get Adrien/Liepard Noir to be [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness serious and edgy]].

** Plagg, who demands Moomoo Farm cheese even after he ate. Adrien [[FoodAsBribe uses this]] sometimes to get Plagg to cooperate and be serious in a fight.
** Marinette's Sewaddle/Swadloon is noted to be a ravenous eater. In fact she met Marinette when she was eating her discarded sketch papers. The narration in Chapter 34 stated that she had to be held back from eating the pastries and Poké Puffs Marinette was baking.
*** Marientte's Togepi/Togetic was drooling over the Poké Puffs that the Showcase contestants were making in Chapter 50.

* BitchInSheepsClothing:
** Lila presents herself as a kind and friendly person and accomplished trainer in front of Adrien, but reveals her JerkAss self to Marinette when alone with her and enjoys [[AttentionWhore being in the spotlight]].
** Invoked via WordOfGod (author's bio page) in regards of Chloé getting a Flaaffy. Chloé does try to play it straight by insisting that bad things happening are [[NeverMyFault never her fault]].
* BloodKnight: Kagami is made to be a downplayed, not-so-violent example as she seeks out Pokémon Trainers with reputations and [[ChallengeSeeker challenge them to battles]]. So far, Adrien is at the top of her list.
* BrainsAndBrawn: Max and Kim during the tag-team battle, so much so that they gave Marinette and Adrien a hard time.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy:
** Team Akuma abducts Trainers under their leader’s command, to which he uses his Malamar’s Hypnosis to ensure total cooperation before subjecting them to Mega Evolution energy, which from Pokémon XY&Z was shown to subjugate even a [[OlympusMons Zygarde]].
** Poison Moth has hinted that his lackeys have been also subjected to brainwashing.

* BrilliantButLazy: Plagg is said to be a very strong Pokémon, but his lazy and cheese-ravenous tendencies prevent him from being ambitious.
* BrutalHonesty: In Chapter 41, [[spoiler: Gabriel doesn't even attempt to hide the fact that he's less than impressed of Adrien's performance during his [[CurbStompBattle one-sided]] exhibition match against his son, pointing out the mistakes he made.]]

* ChildProdigy: Adrien, being the son of [[GenerationXerox Kalos Champion Gabriel Agreste]].

* ChronicHeroSyndrome:
** Adrien/Liepard Noir's Meowstic is described to have a bit of a hero complex, thinking of the greater good than anything else. This is best shown when [[spoiler: he protects Kirlia without orders from his trainer, taking the hit meant for her]]. No doubt there that Meowstic inherited his trainer's self-sacrificing recklessness.
** On a minor note, Liepard Noir is this in ensuring [[UnwantedAssistance Lady Ledian is safe]] [[AngerBornOfWorry unless she has something to say about it]].
** Alya is known for her love of superheroes and sense of truth and justice that she's not afraid of standing up to wrongdoings, even when its putting her safety at risk.
* ClingyJealousGirl:
** Marinette becomes jealous and more irritated whenever a girl flirts or gets too close for comfort towards Adrien, but she reserves this for Chloé and later Lila. [[spoiler: Lila's act of leading Adrien away and [[ForcefulKiss kissing him]] was enough to impulsively drive Marinette to wear her Lady Ledian mask and humiliate Lila in from of Adrien in Chapter 48, just like in the main show]].
** Adrien's Cubone is hostile towards Marinette and Chloé, especially when the latter [[NoSenseOfPersonalSpace starts clinging onto Adrien]]. [[spoiler: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]] after [[CharacterDevelopment evolving into Marowak and mellowing out upon maturing]], but is still very protective over Adrien and sees [[TheKlutz Marinette]] as a potential threat to his well-being]].
** [[CasanovaWannabe Liepard Noir]] tries to invoke this on Lady Ledian when he was giving Alya attention after [[spoiler: saving Xavier at the Kalos Power Plant]] near the end of Chapter 33. [[SubvertedTrope Lady Ledian teasingly boops him back on the nose in response]].
** Lila is jealous in general over anyone who gets more attention than her, but her jealousy is obvious regarding Adrien, who she knows has a thing for Lady Ledian and [[DramaticIrony is close friends with Marinette]], her rival.

** Lila's accomplishments [[spoiler:: which are either exaggerations or lies]] are easily exposed with just a simple internet search, especially when they concern major celebrities since there would be news articles about them. [[spoiler: As Alya can attest, there were none involving Lila]].

** Despite being a skilled trainer said to be a greater adversary for Marinette combined with her experience, Lila arguably qualifies as this. She doesn't stop to flaunt her accomplishments, enjoys pushing Chloé or Marinette's buttons for her own amusement due to her experience as a Trainer. She even goes as far as to [[spoiler: steal Adrien's SacredFirstKiss forcibly because of her own entitlement]]. When she's put in a lower or uncomfortable position [[spoiler: such as Adrien's [[MamaBear Marowak]] [[HumiliationConga nearly hitting her in retaliation for violating Adrien's personal space, Lady Ledian exposing her lies in front of Adrien, or falling victim as Team Akuma's latest Bond Hybrid]]]], Lila loses her smug and sly demeanor.

** After what appeared to be a Contest Chapter with Marinette and her friends, Chapter 50 ends with [[spoiler: TheReveal that Gabriel Agreste is Poison Moth, the leader of Team Akuma and Natalie is his [[TheDragon second-in command]]]].

* FashionVictimVillain: The uniforms of Team Akuma were described to be pretty gaudy. Given that they're based off of Team Flare, it's a given.
