The story follows the story of Sam, a man sent to hell during his death despite living a relatively blameless (if unexemplary) life. After being rescued from cannibalistic torture by a mysterious figure, he ends up at the [[WebAnimation/HazbinHotel Happy Hotel]] and tries to figure out why exactly he was dammed in the first place. As he learns more about the new realm he's ended up in, and just how many of the people around him ''aren't'' unrepentant monsters, he might just decide that [[InherentInTheSystem the entire system has to go...]]

Unapproved Complete Monster entry on workpage + ZCE

* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: Everyone hates Nathan Birch, Lucifer's proxy.
* AchievementsInIgnorance: Blitzø is often demonstrated to be so bull-headed and obtuse that he can achieve feats others would consider impossible, merely because he's the [[FearlessFool only one who was foolish enough to try]]. This pays off in a big way when he manages to [[spoiler: Kill [[CompleteMonster Nathan Birch]], and become the new proxy of Lucifer despite being an Imp]]

The write up is still the same as the Complete Monster entry, which was not approved by the CM thread. Deleting.

* Hate Sink: Nathan Birch, Lucifer's proxy, is repeatedly demonstrated to be an unapologetic monster, who isn't even charming enough to be likable. He's a petty, greedy, vicious man, who can only get away with his abuses of others thanks to his [[SelfDemonstrating/PurpleMan powers]].

!!This story contains examples of:

* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: Everyone hates Nathan Birch, Lucifer's proxy.
* AchievementsInIgnorance: Blitzø is often demonstrated to be so bull-headed and obtuse that he can achieve feats others would consider impossible, merely because he's the [[FearlessFool only one who was foolish enough to try]]. This pays off in a big way when he manages to [[spoiler: Kill [[CompleteMonster Nathan Birch]], and become the new proxy of Lucifer despite being an Imp]]
* AffablyEvil: Alastor is a great example of this. He's friendly and charming, despite being a CompleteMonster.
* ArchEnemy: Blitzø and Nathan Birch, and Sam and [[God]]
* BattleCouple: Moxxie and Millie are this, especially after [[spoiler: their mid-story power-up via the 37 oaths]]
* TheChosenOne: Subverted, as [[spoiler: it turns out there have been dozens of people with Angelic gifts in Hell before Sam, all of whom have ended up dead]]. Subversion is later confirmed when [[spoiler: Sam ''makes'' himself the Demiurge, rather than being born it.]]
* ConditionedToAcceptHorror: It's an ongoing debate in this story whether many of the denizens of Hell are naturally apathetic to human suffering, or if the environment of Hell (and the knowledge of the impossibility of death or escape) gradually warp them to fit their new environment. Many new arrivals to hell exhibit DeliberateValuesDissonance, and many longtime residents demonstrate that [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold there might just be something redeemable inside them]] if you can pry past all the layers of protection they've had to build up.
* CompleteMonster: Nathan Birch, Lucifer's proxy, is repeatedly demonstrated to be an unapologetic monster, who isn't even charming enough to be likable. He's a petty, greedy, vicious man, who can only get away with his abuses of others thanks to his [[SelfDemonstrating/PurpleMan powers]].
* CrapsackWorld: Hell. [[spoiler: And as it turns out, Heaven isn't doing so hot either.]]
* TheEmpath: Sam
* FantasticCasteSystem: Hell, much to the detriment of Imps and Hellhounds. [[spoiler: Although, according to glimpses of the future, perhaps not for long thanks to the actions of some of the main characters.]]
* HellOfAHeaven: [[spoiler: As it turns out, Heaven isn't doing do great either, thanks to [[GodIsDead God going silent in the 1600s]] and refusing to expand heaven any more, leading to massive famine for humans, who can't actually die despite being able to starve. Also, the Angels have dissolved into cliquish infighting with the absence of a clear leader]]
* HolierThanThou: [[spoiler: Many of the angels, especially Gabriel, demonstrate this.]]
* InherentInTheSystem: The entire judgement mechanism of the afterlife has been throwing undeserving people in hell ever since [[spoiler: Purgatory was thrown into the abyss]], and maybe even before that. [[spoiler: If only someone could do something about that...]]
* LikeFatherLikeSon: [[spoiler: Lucifer and God, as much as Lucifer would never admit it.]]
* LovableSexManiac: Nifty
* NerdActionHero: Moxxie, and, to a lesser extent, Sam.
* MoreThanMeetsTheEye: Sam
* RotatingProtagonist: The story follows the adventures of multiple different characters, which only intersect near the end.
* SatanIsGood: Satan (not Lucifer, they're different guys) might just be the best person in any position of power in Hell.
* SuperIntelligence: After [[spoiler: swearing the 37 Oaths]], Moxxie becomes this, [[spoiler: inventing entirely new branches of magic on the fly]].
* Worldbuilding: The author is well-known for his in-depth explorations of the Helluva Boss/Hazbin Hotel universe, building out numerous aspects that aren't explored in the show, and sometimes inventing entirely new ones. It's perhaps the best feature of the story.
