* AmbiguousDisorder: Makoto...tends to swing back and forth repeatedly between being a neutral-faced NiceGuy to a violent and murderous BloodKnight rather easily.

Opposite him are the Shadows, EldritchAbominations that are either AlwaysChaoticEvil and FauxAffablyEvil.

* GreyAndBlackMorality: Makoto is unquestioningly on the side of good, but there are multiple occasions wherein he becomes pretty morally grey, and it's especially shown in how ruthless he is in battle. Opposite him are the Shadows, Eldritch Abominations that are either AlwaysChaoticEvil and FauxAffablyEvil.

The author is also making an official sequel to ''The Alternity Paradox'' titled ''Persona – The Answer to Life and Death'', based ([[CaptainObvious of course]]), on the epilogue to the original game titled, ''The Answer''. There is also a Crossover with the Alternity Universe and the universe of fellow fanfic writer mentioned above, Emiya2004, titled ''Persona Q: Shadows of the Heart''.

But by the end of the prologue, he's become more bitter and cynical, but also much more assertive.

* BrokenBird: The main character, Akira Kanzaki, as opposed to the suave and cool PhantomThief as shown in the trailers for ''Persona 5'' is depicted as a teenager who's got ''way'' too much emotional baggage to handle on his own. [[spoiler: Kana herself turns out to be this as well]].
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Averted. Akira's dad is, yes, very controlling. But the reason he keeps on grooming Akira to be a businessman and disregard any other job opportunities for him is because he truly thinks being the head of the Kanzaki Corporation is what's best for him.
* CouldHaveAvoidedThisPlot: The moral of the first chapter is '''TALK TO SOMEBODY ABOUT YOUR PROBLEMS'''.
* DarkerAndEdgier: ''Garden of Souls'' provided some much-needed happiness into this universe. So, obviously, the logical thing to do is make things miserable again!
* DarkAndTroubledPast: The prologue is basically Akira's.
* DownerBeginning: The prologue is over 12,000 words of torment for our main character.
* HeroicBSOD: Akira falls into a major one at the end of the '''prologue'''.
* IJustWantToBeFree: Freedom, like the original game, is a major theme within the fic. Kana imparts the importance of being free to make your own decisions to Akira, who is initially completely under the whims of his well-meaning but iron-fisted father. Because of how important freedom is to Kana, she refuses to be a burden on those she cares about: and as such, she doesn't even try to talk to anyone about her problems because she doesn't want to drag them down. It gets her killed]]. Eventually, [[spoiler: Akira himself adopts the desire to make his own decisions, but at the point he does, he's pretty much lost his closest friend, his love for his father, and his girlfriend]].

That, and he experiences a twenty-fifth hour of the day where the sky turns green, all sources of liquid turn into blood, and people turn into coffins. It's pretty much an AU retelling of the original story which takes a ''ton'' of liberties to the plot, but not enough such that it deviates completely from the original themes and messages of the original game.

* CharacterDevelopment – Like the game, ''everyone'' gets this. But in ''very'' [[AlternateCharacterInterpretation different]] ways as depicted in the game.

Numerous confrontations he has with the Shadows ultimately end up so chaotic because he doesn’t go all-out on them. Even in situations where he does go all out, it doesn’t necessarily prove helpful in the long run. There are even times when his violent side ends up making the situation ''worse''.

* GenreShift: While ''The Alternity Paradox'' is a cynical and harsh Deconstruction of the ''Persona'' series as a whole, ''Book of Souls'' Reconstructs the universe by adding much more fantastical elements. If ''Alternity Paradox'' focused on the darker aspects of the ''SMT'' games, ''Book of Souls'' certainly focuses on the more extravagant side.

* SpellBook: ''Grimoire Animus'', the Persona Compendium Yuka used in ''The Alternity Paradox'' comes back here, and is the titular Book of Souls.

* TakingUpTheMantle: Yuka's taken up the role as protagonist, now...and she's not taking any prisoners.

* DarkerAndEdgier: ''Book of Souls'' provided some much-needed happiness into this universe. So, obviously, the logical thing to do is make things miserable again!
