* BigBad: [[WhamEpisode Chapter 3's seventh part]] made it entirely clear that [[spoiler:the one who [[BodySurf: took over the Impostor's body]], all but outright stated to be the AI Junko Enoshima]] is playing this part.

** Chapter 3 part 7 [[spoilers: Confirms Mikan as the murderer again, though this time as a voluntary suicide]], Nidai uses his strength to [[spoiler: preform a HeroicSacrifice and gets attacked for breaking the violence against the headmaster rule (though this time he did it and he does die for it)]], Gundam [[spoiler: willingly reenacts his execution when he makes a show out of staying behind to face the Despair!Impostor]] and has a mention of a broken camera, though not a film camera this time and is completely accidental this time around.

* BrokenPedestal: In the third trial [[spoiler: TheReveal about the SHSL Impostor and their actions under the despair fever]] certainly caused one for the group and hit Hinata in particular very hard.

* WhamEpisode: [[spoiler: Chapter 3 part 7 ends with quite a splash.]]

* EasterEgg: Every [[spoiler: Komaeda theater]] so far contains a [[spoiler: hidden message known as a "lucky number code" made by number to letter based cyphers that use a different method each time, with each cryptogram referring to letters used in the Komaeda Theater itself. * AllThereInTheManual: The author provides little character arc explanations and summaries on a blog made specifically for System Restore that can be found [[http://sysrestoreblog.tumblr.com/ here]].

* ShutUpKirk: Monobear to Togami

** Hiyoko, meanwhile, doesn't have any problem with this, and greets the others the morning after the execution with "Geez, it's as dead as [[spoiler:Komaeda and Hanamura]] in here!"

* AmnesiacDissonance: Comes into play with the second trial, as the motive involves something that supposedly happened while their memories were erased.

* NeverMyFault: Monobear prefers to lay the blame for everything that's happening at the students' feet. PlayedForLaughs in Chapter 3 when he teleports in and lands right on Hinata's breakfast, then scolds Hinata for this.

* MadnessMantra[=/=]SurvivalMantra: [[spoiler: Souda]] develops one with shades of both tropes after [[spoiler: narrowly surviving a murder attempt and waking up in the hospital with no real memory of what happened]] primarily consisting of "I'm sorry" and "[[spoiler: I don't wanna die]]".

* ArmorPiercingQuestion: Togami's response when Sonia and Nanami try to call him out for trying to sacrifice himself:

* HeelRealizaiton: WordOfGod says that the second murderer, at the moment before [[spoiler:her]] death, realized "what a wrong and selfish decision" the murder was.

* [[TheWomanWearingTheQueenlyMask The Woman Wearing the Princess's Mask]]: Sonia slips into this role during the second trial, around the time it becomes apparent [[spoiler:she and Tanaka are the last viable suspects]].

** [[WhamEpisode Part 5 of Chapter 3]] was revised (the first time) to deal with UnfortunateImplications, particularly relating to [[spoiler:Souda's Despair Fever symptoms, in which he imagines that he is Sonia]]. There was later a ''second'' revision made in regards to [[spoiler: Souda's death in general, which was causing confusion based on the wound described and the actual wounds caused by the intended weapon (after toning down said death already) and deciding against having 2 murders in chapter 3 since it was simply done to follow Dangan Ronpa's "tradition".]]

** In Chapter 3, part 5, has [[spoiler: Souda survive despite being attacked]] not unlike what happened to [[spoiler: Leon, before he killed his attacker instead, and Hifumi, only without dying after being discovered by his friends or faking his injuries.]]
