This leads to Moondancer hatching Spike's egg during the Sonic Rainboom's magic surge and becoming Celestia's student instead. It also leads to Twilight being already acquainted with the rest of The Mane Six and Ponyville by the time of the pilot.

Which prevents Applejack from having to go behind Granny's back and they're able to go forward with the apple cider deal with Filthy Rich.

(Thanks to her taking less time get over her pre-exam anxiety with Applejack's support and simply requesting a different test after admitting she does not know how to hatch Spike's egg. Which she is granted.) So while she's still admitted into the school, she ''is not'' the pony to hatch Spike or become Celestia's apprentice. Instead, it's Moon Dancer who hatches Spike during the rainboom magic surge and becomes Celestia's student.
** Applejack becomes a better salespony with her mother's guidance. But also her drive to work hard isn't quite as strong, since she didn't have to pull the extra weight that came with losing both her parents and she's more open to new ideas on how to do things with her mother remaining as an influence in her life growing up.
** Spike develops a crush on Twilight instead of Rarity, after Moondancer briefly turns her into a dragoness.
** Twilight's already acquainted with the rest of The Mane Six and Ponyville by the time of the pilot.
** Unlike Rarity, Twilight talks to Spike about his crush, soon after she notices him acting odd around her and tries to let him down gently instead of stringing him along. And he's able to move on to somepony else, more his age.
** Pear Butter talks Applejack out of trying to get Spike's spare ticket to get into The Gala to try selling their apple treats to the fancy ponies there. Pointing out the flaws in that idea that Applejack overlooked in the original series. And instead suggest she just try to get in on the catering, as it would get them a big payout from Celestia without requiring them to try selling their wares to the ponies at the gala directly.
** Circumstances lead to Spike running into [[AlphaBitch Diamond Tiara]] and [[BetaBitch Silver Spoon]] while on his own in Ponyville. Who both like the idea of having a dragon friend to show off and practically drag him into coming to Ponyville Schoolhouse with them and being their friend. Leading to him attending school. And as their new friend, Spike is able to influence the two into easing up on Applebloom and her friends.
** Moon Dancer manages to avert the Ursa Minor incident in "Boast Busters". As she goes to have a talk with Trixie after the show and overhears Snips and Snails misguided plan to find an Ursa, so Trixie can vanquish it. And talks them out of going through with it. And Trixie seems to leave Ponyville on comparably better terms.
* ForcedTransformation: Moondancer transforms Twilight into a dragoness by surprise, as a demonstration of her research into dragons after being put in charge of Spike.

** Discussed and referenced by name, when Applejack explains to Twilight she's like family to them. She asks Twilight what her mother, Pear Butter, means to her. And after thinking it over a moment, Twilight says Pear's like an honorary aunt. A sentiment Applejack agrees with and says similarly about Twilight's mother. Pear Butter herself later tells Twilight she's like another daughter to her, but supposes niece is a better term for it.
** Later, Twilight actually declares ''herself'' Spike's aunt. Though Moondancer and Spike agree to it. The latter even jokingly calling her "aunty" as they head out.
