* TalkingAnimal: Werebeasts can speak like normal humans in their animal forms.
* TechnicallyLivingZombie: There are creatures called brain worms that take over the victim's body and force them to do the bidding of the worms' controller (though they leave the victims' personalities intact), turning the victims into this.
* ViralTransformation: Werebeasts can transmit their condition via biting, as can those infected by brain worms. Averted with true undead zombies, which have to be deliberately raised via black magic.
* VirginPower: Not for the virgin themselves, but drinking the blood of one grants a temporary but massive power boost to vampires.
* WeakenedByTheLight: Ghasts are a form of undead that are particularly vulnerable to light - full exposure is almost always fatal in a very short time, unless they can get out of it in time.
* ZombieApocalypse: [[spoiler:Cinch]] uses the brain worms to turn the Crystal Prep students into a zombie-like mob and has them attack Canterlot High.
