* The main characters are Huntsmen, warriors who defend the kingdoms against creatures of Grimm. The Huntsman is an archetypical character in a lot of fairytales, though most famous from ''Little Red Riding Hood''.

Added DiffLines:

!!Team JNPR
* The running theme of JNPR is that they're all based on figures that dressed as another gender at one point, which carries through to them all being another gender from their inspirations.
* Jaune Arc is based on the archetypical KnightInShiningArmor / PrinceCharming character. He carries a sword and shield that doubles as an AncestralWeapon and does his best to follow OldSchoolChivalry. His name is a reference to Jeanne of Arc, a famous KnightInShiningArmor. He ends up being a deconstruction, however. While being a NiceGuy is appreciated, the fact that every woman around him are more than capable of handling themselves means that his CasanovaWannabe attitude makes him come across as more of a DoggedNiceGuy. His connections to Jeanne d'Arc also ties into his bully, Cardin Winchester, who stands in for ''Cardin''al Henry Beaufort, who was part of the jury that sentenced Jeanne to death. Jeanne never hid her gender, but dressed as a man for safety during travel (this is actually what got her executed).
* Nora Valkyrie is not based on a fairytale character, but on a character from Myth/NorseMythology. Specifically, Thor. She's a redhead who wields a massive hammer as her primary weapon. Nora is also the feminine form of Thor in Norse language, while Valkyrie are minor gods of battle (though they are unaffiliated with Thor). Her semblance is electricity-based, and Thor was the god of thunder and lightning. Thor once dressed up as the goddess Freya in order to trick the jotun Thrym to give back Mjølner.
* Pyrrha Nikos is based on the quasi-historical Greek hero Achilles, the greatest warrior in all of Greece at the time of the Trojan war. Like him, Pyrrha is TheAce and nearly unbeatable in combat. She slightly breaks the naming trend by instead being named for another Greek figure, king Pyrrhus of Epirus, the TropeNamer for PyrrhicVictory, and for Nike, the Greek goddess of victory. Achilles dressed as a woman to avoid the Trojan war, but was found out by clever Odysseus.
* Lie Ren is based on Hua Mulan, the Chinese folkloric figure who dressed in men's clothes to go to war in her father's place. His father's dying words are for him to be brave, which alludes to Mulan's parents' support of her decision to join the army. Mulan's claim to fame is dressing as a man to go to war.

* When Yang stops at a refuelling station to buy a bottle of water, a bandit hanging around decides to hit on her. He comments on her appearance being "Not too bulky, not to lean, you're..." and she sarcastically finishes "...just right, I get it". That's because the name of the establishment is "Just Rite". This is all a reference to the ''Literature/{{Goldilocks}}'' that Yang is inspired by.

Restoring the original entry because the additions are wrong. The creators said that Ambrosius is based on Merlin Ambrosius and the show states that he can only ever create one thing at a time, and that each act of creation ends the existence of the previous creation.

* Jinn and Ambrosius are based off the Genie from ''1001 Arabian Nights''. She's a genie that can answer up to three questions each century, and he's a genie that can make anything three times each century with the right blueprints, just as the genie grants three wishes. The Relic of Knowledge is basically the magic lamp that frees Jinn.

Penny is troped on the Shout Out page because she's based off children's literature, not fairy tales. Also removing the comparison to Robin Williams; that would be a Shout Out, plus it needs to be deliberate, not a fan association.

* Penny Polendina is heavily based on Literature/Pinocchio, an artificial creation that struggles with being a "real girl" and later achieves this dream thanks to some magic. In addition, her weapons are a multitude of swords she controls via strings, like a puppetmaster.

The Relic of Creation continues this trend, also housing a spirit/genie, with Ambrosius inside acting a great deal like Creator/RobinWilliams and specifically mentioning he can't bring people back from the dead, just like Disney's WesternAnimation/Aladdin.

Example Indentation issues. I've rolled this into Cinder's entry.

* Cinder Fall is based off ''Literature/{{Cinderella}}''. Her emblem is based off of Cinderella's iconic glass slippers, and her footsteps are accompanied by the sound of tinkling glass and regular shots of her heeled shoes, which are also made of glass. She constantly uses fire and glass weapons. In addition, [[Recap/RWBYV2E7DanceDanceInfiltration Dance Dance Infiltration]] has her returning to the Beacon Academy Dance at the stroke of midnight, shedding the clothing she wore to infiltrate the CCT; instead of a slipper, she leaves behind the glass mask she wore. The creators mention that her name was originally going to be Cinder Ella before they decided on Cinder Fall. Salem, who is the Wicked Witch to Ozpin's Wizard of Oz, also plays a more maternal role for Cinder, taking on the role of Cinderella's Fairy Godmother, by promising to help Cinder achieve her desires (in this case, power and infamy).
