It should be noted that even though they killed her husband, ''ripped out her infant son's eye'' and planned to kill her, kidnap her son, and ''rip out his other eye'', Kubo's mother refers to them as Kubo's grandfather and aunts instead of "The Moon King and his daughters" or even just "my father and sisters". Then again it's possible she simply didn't want him to be shocked when he learned the truth or manipulated due to being relatives.
