** Simurgh can summon [[HealingHands healing rain.

* NonIndicativeName: Anima is divided into eight aspects, Howl, Claw, Hide, Venom, Tail, Fang, Wing, and Shell. Despite the names, you don't need to have wings or howling to use them.

* OneGenderRace: All Sirens are female and require strong members of other species to reproduce.

* ThePhoenix: The rarest of Beast Realm inhabitants. It is said that they have the power to positively alter the fate of those they meet and the Fates have to re-spin the Tapestry of Fate to account for it. [[spoiler: It's also Sunset's Inner Beast.]] When Diamond Dogs see it, they find it a cause for celebration.

** The girls often mention shows like WesternAnimation/ThunderCats1985, and WesternAnimation/SheRaPrincessOfPower. At one point, they mention Creator/FromSoftware as a comparison of how [[NintendoHard difficult]] their lives can be.
-->'''Sunset Shimmer''': Oh... great. Can’t ever be easy, can it? For once I’d like to have a major enemy who’s like a video game boss, with a big, shiny bit that’s labeled ‘Hit me to win’.
-->'''Rainbow Dash''': If our lives were a video game, Sunset, I think it’d be made by From Software.

* WorldTree: The most well know example, Yggdrasil. It can be used to travel between dimensions [[spoiler: and is responsible for reincarnation of souls.]] [[spoiler: Jörmungandr describes it as the heart of the Beast Realm and wishes to destroy it because [[GreaterScopeVillain Glory]] corrupted it in some way. *WorldsSmartestMan:
** Discord. He was the captain of the 12th Division and his intellect and invention are so advanced to put him on par with some heavy hitters in the setting. He's the one who created Hōgyoku, a device whose purpose is to break barriers between souls. While still incomplete it earned him an invitation into Zero Division. [[spoiler: The Zero Division had to turn to creating a memory copy of him to further their goals after he declined them.]]
** Twilight Sparkle has the potential to become one. While still young she manages to keep up with the settings [[WorldsSmartestMan Discord]] and Human [[SuperIntelligence Starswil]]. She managed to create [[ArtificialLimbs mechanical limbs]] and a Reiatsu-detecting device. In a day. While not knowing something like Souls exists.

* MentalWorld: Just like in In ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'', all shinigami have an inner world where they commune with their [[TalkingWeapon zanpakutou]] spirit. So far we have seen a few:
** Sunset's Inner World is a [[ChildOfTwoWorlds mix of Canterlo Castle mixed with Cantelot High School.]] Outside of the building is Throne overlooking a plain of clouds. [[spoiler: After Hōgyoku absorbs some of Hell's energy, [[ChainedByFashion Hell Chains]] start to sprout from the throne attacking Sunset. Both Hokori and Hikari are flaggerbasted by it.]]
** [[BadassBookworm Clover's]] is an infinite, calm ocean dotted with countless obelisks containing countless tomes and scrolls, some as tall as a person.
** Disturbingly, [[CuteAndPsycho Posey's]] mental world is a huge ocean of blood under a dark sky with a single ashen tree in the middle.
** Sweet Cider's Kizuna residues in a Japanese-themed village. When we first see it, it's partially destroyed by crazed Zanpakutō Spirit.
** Flash's [[MischiefMakingMonkey Kochi]] [[TheGadfly Yojinbo]] residents in a training ground carved area, filled with stone pillars area and an old red and gold shrine. Every time he wants to communicate with his spirit he has to climb the stairs, a trip that is always exhausting, no matter how many times he's walked it. Inside the shrine is a scroll with "One Life for One Cause" Credo written on it in Kanji. After Twilight used her magic on his Zanpakutō, the scroll began to emit a purple light. After Kochi decides Flash's ready he shows him a path to the mountain peak.

* RagnarokProofing: The books found in Aqualian, an underwater city, have been left unattended for centuries yet are still perfectly readable. [[FridgeLogic Perhaps it has something to do]] with [[DoingInTheWizard the spell making them waterproof.]]

**Averted. with [[spoiler: Guto's]] MidasTouch lacks any protection from his MidasTouch. He has to be careful manipulating his chains or touching the affected area or he'll be affected too.

** The Espada may be working together, but ''all'' of them hate each other. Even the Lament, the TokenGoodTeammate among them, freely admits he wants to ditch the lot of them. The ''only'' reason they haven't torn each other apart is because they're all afraid of Tirek, who comes down hard on any serious in-fighting.

* SmugSuper: Fleur Des Lis, Captain Platinum, and Captain Blueblood are this in spades, looking down at Sunset and the girls for their inexperience as if they were little kids playing at real power. * MachiavelliWasWrong: Definitely subverted by Tirek and the Arrancar. In the DeathWorld that is Hueco Mundo, the reason that Las Noches and the Espada haven't devolved into petty in-fighting is because ''no one'' can question the Hollow King and Primera Espada when he puts his foot down and all are in fear of his wrath and power. The only person in Las Noches who could possibly challenge him is the Dos Espada Chrysalis, and even she admits while their battle would destroy the whole fortress he would still win as things are. Despite this, Tirek used both his power and his people's fear to forge them into a competent faction and the closest thing the Hollows have to a government/ruling body. Without him Hueco Mundo would basically be squabbling weak factions of Arrancars and Vasto Lordes carving out territories while being vulnerable to attacks from the infinitely more organized Soul Society and Quincy, and while definitely feared and envied he is not a ''hated'' king as he understands the value of powerful subordinates and does not go out his way to treat them cruelly or make life worse for them just because. [[spoiler:Adagio]] even admits he's actually a competent ruler and there are certainly worse options even among the Espada to be his replacement.
* MadScientist: Grogar is obsessed with collecting powerful and unique individuals to experiment on.
* MagicAIsMagicA: Unlike the Human side and Equestrian, the Inhabitants of Beast Realm can use both Magic and Spirit power, mixing them into something they call Anima.
* MagicallyIneptFighter: Hollow reiatsu just isn't suited to the fine-tuned reiryoku manipulation that enables Soul Reapers to dish out all the various kinds of Kido spells, and despite all of Grogar's experiments to try and give Arrancars more versatile power sets he's been unable to overcome this failing. As a result, he's rather interested in the resurgence of Fullbring among humans, since while it's still at least partially born of Hollow energy it's ''much'' less limited in scope than Hollow abilities normally are (Pinkie, whose abilities let her pretty much do anything as long as it falls under RuleOfFunny, is a prime example of this).
* MagicIsAMonsterMagnet: Grogar gets interested in the amplifying effect of Equestrian magic on spiritual power, so he sends various minions after the main characters to try and gain the power of magic himself.
* MagicStaff: [[spoiler:Sweetie Belle's Fullbring takes the form of a large staff that can [[SizeShifter can change its size at will.]]]]
** [[spoiler:Bount Trixie's Doll can detach one of these from his body that his mistress can use to hex people.]]
* {{Magitek}}: All of the factions use technology that makes use of spiritual energy to some degree.
** The Quincy use technology to aid them the most, in the form of VTOL craft and tanks that can fire Quincy arrows for use in Hueco Mundo, etc.
** Twilight's research focuses on combining spiritual energy and technology with magic. She's already made some progress, like Sugarcoat's visor and Indigo Zapp's legs.
** Grogar's self-experimentation and augmentation makes him look like a {{Cyborg}} in Resurrección form.
** Human Twilight is extremely proficient at combining human technology with Equestrian magic. Shortly after starting studying magic with Sombra's blessing, she created M-cell that works as batteries that can empower a user with magical energy and a fully functioning [[MiniMecha Mech]] suit [[spoiler: for Spike]].
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: Princess Luna's reaction to [[spoiler: having her wing blasted off]] is to mutter, "...Oh, that's not good."
** In her battle with Lament, Harshwinny acts like losing a leg doesn't bother her, to the concern of her allies. The truth is, it does bother her, but they don't have the luxury to worry about it.
-->'''Upper Crust''': Harshwinny, um, I don't mean to alarm you, but you seem to be, uh, missing a limb...\\
'''Harshwinny''': That had not escaped my attention, thank you.
** Lament is badly beaten and [[AnArmAndALeg missing an arm]] after a battle with his [[spoiler: wife and daughter,]] yet he acts like it's the happiest day of his life. Which probably was.
* MakeSomeNoise: Sternritters "E - The Echo" and "O - The Octave" have powers around the manipulation of sound, but in different ways. The Octave generates sound to then control as needed, while the Echo senses and affects all existing sound around its user who can also then increase the reverberation of that sound to any degree they want. This makes The Echo less suited for direct combat, but more useful for spying and reconnaissance.
* MakingASplash: [[spoiler:Adagio after becoming a Vasto Lorde.]]
* MartialPacifist: Fluttershy's entire fighting style and Fullbring revolves around taking down her opponents without harming them.
* MamaBear:
** Pipsqueak's mother is ''very'' protective of him, due to his illness. Starswirl notes that [[spoiler:Platinum]] would do just about anything to protect him, [[spoiler:even betray Soul Society]].
** Ditzy is this to her daughter Derpy. She taught her how to defend herself, and she gives Sunset and her friends an ImpliedDeathThreat to make sure they don't get her involved with their mission. [[spoiler:Derpy herself is annoyed though understanding at this, however, because she ''knows'' about these things and has to pretend otherwise to spare her peace of mind.]]
** One of the few ways to quickly get on Hollow Chrysalis' bad side is to threaten or bad-mouth her "true-born" children. She got noticeably colder in attitude when discussing with Grogar how [[spoiler:the experimental siren gem overloaded and hurt Pharynx]], and Sunset while viewing [[spoiler:Gaia Everfree's memories sees that when Gaia bad-mouths the newly-born Thorax to Chrysalis' face, she takes notice of the way Chrysalis' eyes narrow and blaze in much the same way when Platinum felt threatened about Pipsqueak.]]
* MaskOfPower: All Hollows have them. Ditzy has one [[spoiler:on account of being one of the first Vizards, and presumably Screwloose and Screwball have similar potential]]. And [[spoiler:Starlight Glimmer has one due to perfecting the Vizard transformation, with the implications that Pipsqueak post-"Hollowfication" procedure can form a mask with time and training]].
* MaskOfSanity: While the Lament is able to hide it beneath a polite, calm, friendly and pleasant act and function well enough to be a good father, beneath it all he's actually the ''least'' stable of the Espada, threatening to kill [[spoiler:Adagio]] just because he thought she wasn't going to finish an apple.
* MasterOfIllusion: Trixie's magical specialty, and she uses it to great effect.
* MasterOfUnlocking: Pony Rarity reveals that she taught herself how to pick locks after locking herself out of her Manehattan store one too many times.
* {{Matricide}}: [[spoiler:Charbydis suspects that her sister Scylla killed their mother.]]
* MeaningfulName:
** Just about every Zanpaktou's name is one of these. For example [[spoiler:Flash Sentry's]] Zanpakuto ''Kochi Yojinbo'' (East Wind Bodyguard) represents how his pony self [[spoiler:is a member of the royal guard.]]
** Bubbles whose main weapon are bubbles.
** The Word "Kido" translates to ''Demon Arts''. It's more than just a name. Every spell is represented by a Demon, not unlike Zanpakutō. Lower spells are easy to use but above level Eighty, the Soul Reaper needs to confront the Demon to use the spell freely.
* TheMedic:
** Fluttershy qualifies with her Fullbring.
** Of course, the Soul Reapers have plenty of healing Kido and the Fourth Division dedicated for it.
** The Quincy use advanced medical technology combined with spiritual energy for their healing. Hoity Toity specifically can do this via The Xenomorph.
** Most Arrancar have to rely on their HealingFactor and time for healing, and there are only two people in Las Noches who specialize in medical ability: Grogar, resident MadScientist who will probably implant all manner of devices inside of you in the process for experiments, and Roka, loyal Arrancar and adopted daughter of the Lament, who's [[AxCrazy unstable]] and [[PapaWolf very protective of her and her "siblings"]].
* MercyKill: [[spoiler:Sweet Cider]] says she's going to do this with her husband, saying that it's her duty as a Soul Reaper and that she doesn't want him to spend eternity [[spoiler:as a Hollow.]] Applejack agrees with her, and also says that she wants to be there when it happens. [[spoiler:Things get much more complicated when the moment actually arrives and they realize that not only is he an Arrancar, but also a PapaWolf to a bunch of Arrancar children.]]
* MergerOfSouls:
** What the end result of the FusionDance of [[spoiler:Gloriosa Daisy and Gaia Everfree is. Gaia Everfree makes it clear that she is ''both'' of them and that trying to differentiate their identity is pointless. Notably, Gaia clearly considers Timber ''her'' "brother" and is influenced by Gloriosa's thoughts and identity in considering Camp Everfree her home. Even Gaia admits she didn't expect the merger to run so deeply and completely.]]
** Twilight Sparkle herself is a merge between [[spoiler:the unborn child of Radiant Hope and King Sombra, part of Radiant Hope's own soul, and the part of the Soul Queen known as the "Eye". And then there's Midnight Sparkle as Twilight Sparkle's alter ego created from exposure to Equestrian magic, who herself wonders after learning the truth of Twilight's origin if ''she'' is in fact Sombra's child finally manifested.]]
* MightMakesRight: Kyoki certainly seems to feel this way. When Fluttershy finds out, she gives him a big speech about what a terrible idea that is.
-->'''Fluttershy:''' You may be big, mean, and don’t care about hurting people, but that ''doesn’t'' give you the right to do whatever you please! Nobody has that right! We’re all stuck living together in this world, and if you want to try and make it a "dog eat dog" world then you’re gonna find there’s plenty of dogs around bigger and meaner than ''you'', buster! If you really care about Posey, then you’re gonna stop pushing her around ''this instant'' and be a good and loyal dog for her. Otherwise I’m going to have to teach you a very ''harsh'' lesson you don’t want to experience.
* MilitaryBrat: As Quincies are a military organization, every Quincy is a soldier, and their children are expected to follow the suit, no matter what branch they chose to join. In modern times, they get a chance to leave and live normal lives, but because their lives consist of training and many lost their parents and other loved ones, most choose to stay and fight the Hollows and Soul Reapers, [[ForeverWar continuing the tradition.]]
* MiniMecha: Twilight eventually creates a set of magical armor that [[spoiler: Spike]] can use to fight Hollows and other threats. Since he's just a [[spoiler: tiny puppy]] and the suit is huge he can pilot it like MobileSuitHuman.
* MindManipulation:
** Fluttershy's power, which manifests as a ThirdEye. Once she's made physical contact with someone in order to insert her reiatsu into them, she can compel them with her commands.
** Medley of the Zero Division wields a zanpakuto that allows her to manipulate the minds of others on a grand scale, making herself or things of her choice (such as her sword) invisible to their perception or scrambling their senses.
* MissingMom: Rainbow Dash's mother left when she was in kindergarten. Discord claims she is still alive, but he doesn't know where she is. [[spoiler: It turns out she was a member of Xcution and had a Fullbring just like Applejack, Fluttershy, Pinkie, and Rarity's mothers, but she was the only one who didn't get hit with LaserGuidedAmnesia by Soul Society when the group was disbanded]].
** [[spoiler:Human Luna's mother apparently abandoned her, as she has never met her at all.]]
* MinionWithAnFInEvil: Technically all of the members are equal but it's clear that Glory is the one calling all the shots. That being said, Medley rarely follows her orders in the most effective way. [[spoiler: Case in point, she allowed Ditzy to attain information about Hell, took the Heroe's Magical Pendants, but let left them unharmed and even gave Discord a lead about ZD's plans.]]
* MirrorCharacter: During the Soul Society arc, Sunset and the Humane Five fight a Soul Reaper who is remarkably similar to them.
** Sunset Shimmer's main rival is Platinum and are very similar despite their opposing elements. Both are very prideful people driven by their passions and both [[spoiler: are very familiar with the allure of evil, though Platinum's motives are far more complex than Sunset's were.]]
** Pinkie Pie fights Cheese Sandwich, Both are good-natured and fun-loving jokers, being the most laid-back and open-minded of their respective groups and despite their kindness both have an EvilWeapon that is far more bloodthirsty and brutal than they'd like: Pinkamena and Cheese's Zanpakto,''Hone Nashi''.
** Rarity fights Blueblood. Both are gifted, classy, cultured people who appreciate art and the finer things in life, and have technical fighting styles. But while Rarity is generous and accepts criticism, Blueblood is a SmugSuper who doesn't believe he needs to improve.
** Rainbow Dash fights Fancy Pants who despite their different personalities are the same at the core. Both are people defined by their loyalty and honor to their cause and fight to defend their friends. But Rainbow Dash follows the spirit of loyalty while Fancy Pants gets caught up in the letter of it, compounded by [[spoiler: Platinum exploiting his friendship.]]
** Rainbow gets a second case of this with [[spoiler: her mother, Firefly.]] Both have aerial based Fullbring, see themselves as awesome, and are loyal their friends, [[spoiler: but Firefly has a more cynical view on loyalty since she felt she betrayed it when she had to abandon Rainbow Dash when the Zero Division came knocking and her failure as the leader of Xcution.]]
** Fluttershy fights Posey, who are so similar that Rainbow calls the latter "Fluttercopy". Both are kind, withdrawn people who would prefer not to fight, but while Fluttershy has plenty of willpower and will fight when needed Posey has crippling self-esteem issues and gives into her SuperPoweredEvilSide to fight. [[spoiler:It turns out Fluttershy is actually the {{Reincarnation}} of Posey's mother, Pansy]].
** Applejack fights Sweet Cider, her mother. Both are of the upfront and honest sort who prefer to do things head which is shown by their straightforward brute-force fighting styles and despise shady intrigue. But Sweet Cider is far more abrasive than Applejack [[spoiler: and is her amnesiac mother.]]
** A cross dimensional example is Princess Celestia and Human Discord of all people. Both are the ultimate BigGood of their worlds, both are long-lived leaders who are fountains of exposition and wisdom, and both act as {{Trickster Mentor}}s to their world's leader pony. You gotta wonder how Princess Celestia would react to that version of Discord given her tenuous relationship with her own.
* MirroringFactions: Of all of factions Equestria and the Vandenreich. Both are run by powerful and long-lived monarchs, both of their leaders want their subjects to follow a harmony-based ideology of working together and putting aside their differences for the greater good, the only difference is that King Sombra uses it to forge an efficient and well-organized military while Equestria uses such an ideology for peace. You gotta wonder how the ponies would react to such similar ideals ended up creating the Quincies martial culture.
* TheMole: [[spoiler:Bount Trixie was CapturedOnPurpose to spy for Human Starlight]].
* MoleMen: What [[OurDwarvesAreAllTheSame Dwarves]] basically are. They look like giant humanoid moles sporting thick birds.
* MoralMyopia: A noted, even integral, part of three spiritual factions' relationship. Centuries of the ForeverWar and ItsPersonal on all sides has left them in a CycleOfRevenge where it's easy to have a character espouse their beliefs on why the other sides are a bunch of murdering bastards who have no right to act as they do and justifying their own atrocities with IDidWhatIHadToDo, when really they're all equally guilty with no true moral high ground to stand on. Luckily, there do exist outsiders and even people within said factions who can see through the complicated mess.
* MotherOfAThousandYoung: All of Chrysalis' Arrancar are her own children, though "how" she conceives them is how she ranks them. First are her "blood drones", which she creates from her own spilled blood as disposable shock troops with barely any personality and only serving as extensions of her will (though she could invest more personality in them if she wants to). Next are her simple "drones" who have more personality and willpower naturally, but are still subservient to her. Then there are her "true born," the most powerful of all and are fully independent of her will, like Thorax, Pharynx, and Ocelus. [[spoiler:It's implied that this ability is tied to her possession of a piece of the Soul Queen, which is hinted to be her womb.]]
** [[spoiler:This is apparently confirmed later when Chrysalis lets slip to her Equestrian counterpart that her ability to spawn children used to be a lot weaker.]]
* MultiArmedAndDangerous:
** Fluttershy's Evolved Fullbring gives her not only six arms, but the ability to make even more.
** Torch resurrection's form lives up to the name. Besides giving him extra pair of arms, he bears a different kind of weapon in each hand. He is literally [[DualWielding Multi-armed]] and [[BloodKnight extremely]] [[DraconicAbomination dangerous]].
** [[Myth/HinduMythology Ravana]] has three pairs of arms.
** Jörmungandr can form eight truly giant dragon claws forged from Anima.
* MultipurposeTongue: One of Thorax's more disgusting abilities, though he notes that [[TooMuchInformation the ladies, and a few men, love him for it.]]
* MustHaveCaffeine: As Scorpan puts it, Smart Cookie makes the only coffee in "this reality or any other" that can get him functional in the morning.
* MyBelovedSmother: A sympathetic example. Because of [[DelicateAndSickly Pipsquick's sickness,]] he needs constant observation and care. There's also the fact no one knows how long he has to live, which makes Platinium wish to spend as much time with him as possible, isolating them both from the outside world. [[spoiler: When she finds a way to cure him, she doesn't need much convincing to cut all her ties to the Soul Society and commits a few very morally ambiguous deeds to save him, ultimately alienating his son. [[spoiler: However, once pip's life is no longer in danger, [[DeconstructedTrope Platinium begins to slowly open up to people, even forging real friendships]].]]
* MyFistForgivesYou: Applejack eventually forgives Discord for his lies and manipulations, but punches him in the gut.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone:
** In order to defeat Captain Blueblood, Rarity catches him off-guard with her sword to his throat, neutralizing his Shikai and threatening him with death if he tries anything. Blueblood tries to [[YouWouldntShootMe call her bluff]], but Rarity in turn manages to keep up appearances in her tone and posture so that he's unwilling to risk it. After he surrenders and she binds him up, she leaves and has the internal realization that the threat ''wasn't'' as much a bluff as she was attempting to make it, and the idea that she would have willing killed an unarmed and surrendered opponent, even one that had just been trying to badly injure her at minimum, gives her an internal moment of chill. [[IDidWhatIHadToDo She does brush it off as necessary]] and tells herself that she wouldn't have done it, but the doubt remains regardless.
** The Lament has this realization [[spoiler:when the already horribly wounded Jet Set sacrifices himself to save his wife Upper Crust from his killing blow, which brought up the fractured memories of his own last moments as Hard Nail and how he tried to do the same for Sweet Cider against Grand Fisher.]]
* MyGreatestFailure: Discord still feels responsible for what happened to the Humane Five's mothers. [[spoiler:As well as not seeing Starlight's eroding mental state and trust in him until she decided to strike out on her own to fix the problem she believed he was in on and would do nothing about.]]
* MythicalMotifs:
** Sunset, as in canon, is associated with ThePhoenix, the association going further with her Soul Reaper powers. Her Shikai gives her PlayingWithFire abilities, and [[spoiler:her Bankai gives her HotWings, has her shield morph to look more like a Phoenix, and her ultimate attack, Final Phoenix, has her combine her sword and shield and throw them at her foe, forming a giant fiery Phoenix that explodes when damaged, but unfortunately limiting her to Shikai for at least a day afterward]].
** [[spoiler:Adagio]] unsurprisingly has that of a Mermaid. Her Adjuchas form looked like that of her Equestrian form, while her resurrection turns her into a traditional mermaid in armour and with razor sharp fins.
** Gilda Resurrection has more of an [[AnimalMotifs animal motif]] with a centurion helmet in a shape of a lion head, lower body that of a lean anthropomorphized lion with golden fur, thick claws but also with a barbed tail not unlike Equestrian Manticores. Her spear also drips [[OurHydrasAreDifferent caustic droplets of blood.]]
** Fluttershy's completed Fullbring is heavily inspired by the "Bodhisattva" of Buddhist religion.
** All Sternritters have an Angel motif in their Vollständig form. The appearance warry from person to person but they all have [[WingedHumanoid wings]] (Butterfly wings, wheels of fire, etc) and [[HolyHalo halos]] of some sort.
* MythologyGag: There are several references to both Bleach canon and previous generations of the My Little Pony franchise.
** After an assassination attempt on Twilight, Sombra notes that he is far from omnipotent or omniscient, and sometimes wishes that he could see the future, despite the headache that it would be. Seeing the future was the power of Yhwach's "Almighty" in canon.
** It's often pointed out that Posey resembles Fluttershy, to the point of being nicknamed [=FlutterCopy=]. There really was a pony in Generation 1 named Posey that [[https://www.derpibooru.org/images/249711?q=posey%2C looked a lot like Fluttershy.]] [[spoiler: Then it turns out, Fluttershy was Posey's mother in her previous life.]]
** Apparently Jin, or at least his Equestria Girls counterpart, once tried to enact revenge on Soul Society like in the Bount arc of the anime, and it ended similarly poorly for him.
** Several of the Espada and other Arrancar are villains from previous generations of the ''My Little Pony'' franchise, like Grogar, Catrina, and Squirk.
** Starswirl at one point uses a Kido named [[MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS1E10SwarmOfTheCentury Century Swarm]] that creates tiny little creatures to attack.
** Following the Everfree arc, Discord mentions that [[Manga/BurnTheWitch2018 Sunset should visit London sometime]] when talking about groups other than the three main factions.
** Grogar is researching Segunda Etapa.
** Twilight mentions how [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicIDWIssue34To37 her world's version of Sombra left with his Radiant Hope]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:N-P]]
* ANaziByAnyOtherName: [[spoiler:The Zero Division keying the blades of Soul Reapers to send the souls of reincarnated members of the Star family to Hell, regardless of their actual deservedness, potentially along with others that they don't like or view as threats, is directly compared by Applejack to rounding people up and putting them in death camps.]]
* NeckLift: [[spoiler:Gaia Everfree does this to Fluttershy at the climax of the fight. Unknown to her, Fluttershy banked on this as this gives her the chance to douse Gaia in the contents of the ginto tube given to her by Twilight, allowing her trigger The Variable's power and distract Gaia so Fluttershy can then make physical contact with her own Fullbring to strike directly at Gaia and Gloriosa's MentalFusion.]]
* NextTierPowerUp: Given this is a ''Bleach'' crossover, this was inevitable. In the span of little more than a month, for each of the main characters...
** Sunset starts out as a girl swinging around an Asauchi before she properly bonds with it to create an unreleased zanpakuto that she trains with for a time while learning Kido. She then unlocks her Shikai while fighting Sternritter "T" Fleur de Lis, and goes through TrainingFromHell to get ready for the assault on Soul Society. From there, she achieves Bankai in ''one'' day and learns she actually has a dual Zanpakuto in the process, and from then on continues to train to maximize her power and learn new techniques.
** The Humane Five start out powerless aside from their magic, then gain their Fullbrings. They undergo TrainingFromHell to maximize their abilities and force their Fullbrings to evolve to their next level, which makes each of them easily a match for a Lieutenant-class Soul Reaper. From there, it's a matter of coming to an [[EnlightenmentSuperpowers emotional epiphany with their own personal hang-ups about themselves or their powers]] to achieve their "complete" Fullbring, which puts each of them on par with Captains, Espada, or Sternritter.
** Human Twilight Sparkle starts off apparently powerless, but begins training with her Quincy powers. However, her latent magic powers thanks to [[SuperPoweredEvilSide Midnight Sparkle]] flare up when her [[EmotionalPowers emotions peak]] and synergize with her already potent Quincy powers to propel her rapidly to the level of and even past her Shadowbolt peers with comparatively less time spent training, especially when she and Midnight come to a mutual understanding. She then gains [[spoiler:a Schrift as a Sternritter and access to Vollstandig]] and continues her research into magic and reishi to maximize her ability, including being able to switch control between herself and Midnight to maximize her control of magic.
** [[spoiler:Adagio Dazzle thanks to her latent magical power starts her evolution as a Hollow directly at the level of an Adjuchas, and after eating a large amount of souls from dead humans, other Hollows, and Gillians and Adjuchas evolves to a Vasto Lorde, which also comes with a newfound control of water. Shortly afterwards and during the battle against the Quincy at Las Noches, absorbing some of the lifeforce of the fallen Ninth Espada Squirk and her battle with Captain Luna to save her friend Ember from capture prompts Adagio to rip off her mask and evolve into an Arrancar, now strong enough to be worthy of the title of Sixth Espada and even greater control of water.]]
* NoConservationOfEnergy: This is lampshaded by Twilight [[spoiler:at the meeting for the Canterlot Spirit Coalition]] as one of the major issues with the official story that Quincy arrows utterly obliterate any Hollow that they destroy, as while spiritual abilities ''do'' often play fast and loose with physical laws as mortals understand them, the fact remains that energy ''can't'' be created or destroyed, just transformed or altered in some way, so the souls have to be going ''somewhere''.
* NoNameGiven: The Fourth Espada. Everyone just calls him "the Lament" or just "the Fourth". [[spoiler:It turns out his name is Hard Nail.]]
* NoodleIncident: Apparently, one of [[spoiler:Celestia's]] previous plans involved a song and dance number, [[spoiler:Luna]] in a dress and convenient explosives.
* NoOneCouldSurviveThat: Despite falling in his fight against the Sternritter, none of the Espada are actually sure if the Smooze is really dead or not, some even joking that he'll just show up again one day. [[spoiler:As it turns out, he really is alive.]]
* NothingPersonal:
** Starlight Glimmer makes it clear that she has nothing against [[spoiler:Captains Luna or Celestia]]. It's just that she needs [[spoiler:the Sogyoku]] for her plans and she had to set up their execution [[spoiler:in order to let the weapon be released so she could steal it]]. Indeed, she has no issue at all with letting them go alive once she gets what she wants. Of course, they along with Sunset and the gang take it pretty personally.
** Despite his disparaging remarks to her, [[spoiler:Adagio honestly has no hard feelings against Squirk. It's just it's either kill him or bring down Chrysalis' wrath on her head.]]
* NotQuiteDead:
** [[spoiler: Applejack's parents. Though they died in the human world, Applejack's mother is now a member of Soul Society as a Captain, and her father is still "alive" as the Fourth Espada.]]
** [[spoiler: Adagio, who is also still "alive" as a hollow.]]
** [[spoiler: Human Sunset Shimmer, who's not only still alive in ''Hueco Mundo'', but has somehow gotten a Fullbring!]]
* NotSoDifferentRemark:
** Several Arrancar note that Chrysalis and [[spoiler:Adagio Dazzle]] are very similar to each other, in that they're both beautiful yet powerful schemers who aren't satisfied with just defeating their opposition but manipulating or breaking them to their will in the process. To drive it home, [[spoiler:Gaia Everfree's flashback reveals that Chrysalis' original position in the Espada was the Sixth, the very same position Adagio was first elevated to.]]
** Midnight makes this observation of Twilight and [[spoiler:Sapphire Shores after it's revealed that the latter is behind the assassination attempts on Twilight and what her motivations were]], saying that they both "jump to conclusions, overthink things, and don’t have the courage to go after what you want and instead hide your real feelings, then pretend like you’re doing what’s best for everyone".
* NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist:
** Despite the claims of [[spoiler:Glory that her and the Zero Division's plans are simply doing what they must [[KnightTemplar to create a new world free from evil]], it's later made clear that she's ultimately driven by a desire to resurrect her fallen brethren who became the souls of mortals, to which she's willing to create Hell, and send innocent souls there (like Sunburst for just being a descendant of the Star family, or Rarity to weaken the power of the heroes), to reconstitute said souls... while still preserving some "worthy" souls in the Soul Palace, proving that she realizes that mortals are just as deserving of existence as the gods are, especially with her tantrum when Discord refused to join her.]]
** [[spoiler:Jörmungandr's plans for Ragnarok would have him kill Yggdrasil, which would halt the cycle of reincarnation, to free it of the modifications that Glory has made for her plan above. While he's correct in that Yggdrasil isn't eternal and ''will'' die eventually, his obsession with killing it early rather than finding a way to undo what Glory did and letting it happen naturally, among other things like a desire for glory in the battles of Ragnarok, puts him in this territory.]]
* NotWhatItLooksLike: [[spoiler:Bount Trixie tries to claim this when they discover her performing her ritual to seal off the portal, then her Equestrian counterpart falls out of the closet BoundAndGagged, so she gives up and admits that it's ''exactly'' what it looks like.]]
* ObfuscatingStupidity: The Lament does this all the time. Or, rather he acts laid back and easygoing. [[spoiler:Adagio]] isn't fooled, noticing immediately that he is in reality in a state of constant, battle-ready tension.
* OddNameOut: Applejack's father, Hard Nail, is the only member of Applejack's immediate family to not have an apple themed name. {{Justified}} in that he married into it.
* OfficialCouple: [[spoiler:Time Turner and Ditzy are ChildhoodFriends and it's made clear from their actions and words that they're together, along with the not-so-subtle implication that the former is Derpy's father]].
* OffscreenAfterlife: Regarding what happens after death in Equestria, not even Celestia and Luna supposedly have much, if any knowledge of it. Souls definitively ''exist'' there, but what happens after death is still a mystery.
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome:
** Puddinghead's entire fight with The Kraken is this. When he next appears, The Kraken has been reduced to the size of a small dog with little explanation. Puddinghead is more than happy, however, to recount [[UnreliableNarrator how he bested The Kraken with ease thanks to his amazing Kido abilities.]]
** [[spoiler: Wing Bind's]] been actively and efficiently fighting off Jörmungandr's dragon forces in Europe.
** Prior to the events of the story time Grogar somehow managed to seriously wound Torch. Centuries later it still bothers him.
* OffWithHisHead: [[spoiler:The Grand Fisher dies when Applejack, Sunset, and Rainbow Dash destroy his head with a CombinationAttack. He's still standing after that so they think he's still alive, but he did indeed die.]]
** According to Ember, this is the Lament's preferred way of killing.
* OhCrap: Moondancer [[spoiler:when she realizes that the assassin she and Meadowbrook are fighting is, despite not unsealing their zanpakuto, easily matching them at every turn with no apparent difficulty]]. It gets bigger [[spoiler:when said enemy casts ''Hado #90: Kurohitsugi'' (Black Coffin) without the incantation, something only a Captain-level Soul Reaper should be capable of performing]].
* OlderThanTheyLook: Besides Soul Reapers and Hollows who have lived for centuries without looking it, Sunset Shimmer is technically older than the Humane 5 given her age as a pony, but still looks to be of High School age.
** [[spoiler: Scootaloo]] despite looking like a young teenager, is only twenty-three years old, which in Bount years doesn't make her older than her friends. Like she said, Bounts age weird, depending on what they ''eat''. She doesn't like to talk about it.
* OldMaster: Each member of the Zero Division is responsible for establishing a fundamental part of Soul Society. Bowtie [[UltimateBlacksmith created the Zanpakutous]], Minty [[CombatMedic founded the healing arts of Kido]], and Medley [[KungFuWizard placed down the principles of Hakuda and Shunko]].
* TheOneThatGotAway: Could be taken literally in [[spoiler: Thorax and Luna's]] case. They met when they were, [[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld relatively]] young, and, while it started as normal fights, it eventually turned into [[FriendlyEnemy friendship]] and later into genuine affection. Unfortunately, It ended poorly for them when [[spoiler: Thorax]] trusted his family too much and [[spoiler: Luna]] almost died, barely escaping [[spoiler: but not without losing a piece of her soul]]. A big part of his plans revolves around convincing her to talk with him so he could apologize. [[spoiler: After events at Camp Everfree, Thorax finally had the chance, but Luna says she can't forgive him yet.]]
* OnlyFleshIsSafe: Nocturn's ''Yakkai Koto'' can make any non-animal object it strikes, from plants, pieces of paper, clothing, even water, to be as heavy and stiff as steel.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: Tirek has declared this about Sombra and told his Espada that none of them may try and take that right from him. {{Justified}} in that Sombra is so powerful that not even the other Espada, save maybe the #2 Chrysalis, could hope to defeat him.
* {{Orichalcum}}: The metal is the most treasured creation of the dwarves, the secret of which is strictly guarded. As light as {{Mithril}} but ten times more durable and perfect to conduct Anima. Among other races, it's a symbol of status.
* OtherMeAnnoysMe: [[spoiler:Human Chrysalis and her counterpart do not get along well.]]
* OurDragonsAreDifferent:
** Dragons are native species to the Beast Realm and at least a substantial number of them seem to serve Jörmungandr. They vary in shapes and sizes; some are traditional winged Western dragons and some are eal-like Eastern dragons that glide through the air on discs made of reishi (similarly to Quincy or Fullbringers) and some barely resemble dragons and are more [[MixAndMatchCritters amalgamations of creatures.]]
** Jörmungandr's true form is a massive dragon-like entity, complete with arms, legs, and four wings, all covered with horns, spines, and barbed scales.
** Celestia's Shikai takes the form of a twin dragon made out of fire and plasma. She's very reluctant to release them as they possess full autonomy, and because they are very aggressive and confrontational, they are as dangerous to her allies as they are to her enemies.
* OurDwarvesAreAllTheSame: They are native to Beast Realm. They look like [[MoleMen Moles]] sporting thick beards and braids. Naturally, they are excellent Artisians, [[UltimateBlacksmith blacksmiths,]] Runecrafters, and engineers. They are the only ones that know how to forge {{Orichalcum}}. They can be found in Svartalfheim where they mine and [[FriendlyRivalry skirmish with Diamond Dogs.]]
* OurKoboldsAreDifferent: Diamond Dogs. They are a race of giant bipedal, anthropomorphic Dogs. Despite living in the Beast Realm they come in various real-life species. They can be found in Svartalfheim where they mine and [[FriendlyRivalry skirmish with Dwarves.]]
* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent:
** The Lament's Ressurreccion resembles a great black wolf which eerily resembles [[spoiler:the Hollow that attacked him while he was human]]. Incredibly powerful, but he loses control of himself and acts like a feral beast out to kill.
** [[spoiler:Luna's]] Bankai gives her the appearance of one, covering her body in a large shadowy mass in the form of a wolf while a [[BadMoonRising a sphere resembling a crimson moon bathes the surroundings in shadows]]. [[spoiler:When the sphere is damaged, she absorbs all the shadows involuntarily due to lack of control brought on by her Beast Realm heritage and turns into a black-and-red werewolf with incredible physical power, but her mind is consumed by bloodlust and the most she can do is keep herself targeted on her foe with no higher thought process than "rip and tear".]]
* OurWitchesAreDifferent:
** Seaponies can't cast spells like unicorns they have a specialized group called Witches of the Sea that can call upon the Sea Spirits that allow them to use magic. [[SufficientlyAnalyzedMagic Twilight speculates]] that those spirits are in reality Ocean's [[BackgroundMagicField natural magic field,]] and Seawitches use their innate magic to influence and draw from it like Earth Ponies.
** Technically they are not witches, [[spoiler: [[OurVampiresAreDifferent but Bounts,]]]] but Scootaloo's aunts share a lot of familiarities with them. They live in an old house covered in Celtic symbols and other trinkets, far outside of town. They're seclusive, know how to brew potions, and their powers resemble spells. Lofty even have a doll a.k.a. a familiar that takes the form of a cauldron.
** Human [[spoiler: Trixie]] takes it a step further by dressing like a witch (pointed hat, a cape, etc.), and her weapon is a staff with which she can cast curses. [[spoiler: Her Bount Doll even takes the form of BlackKnight.]]
* OurSpiritsAreDifferent: Wraiths are magically created ghosts bound to a place or an object. They're completely dark in appearance and very aggressive. Nothing indicates they remember who they were. [[spoiler: The City of Aqualania is filled to the brim with them. They are City's previous inhabitants, trapped by Charybdis' magic.]]
* OurZombiesAreDifferent: Draugr are RevenantZombie, that had been mostly used by denizens of Niflheim and Muspelheim. They retain their minds and abilities while their bodies turn dark and their eyes blue. They require Anima from the person who created them or from the person they strike a deal. Without it, they will become inanimate and pass away. A lot of current living draugr are just leftovers from the God Wars.
* TheOwlKnowingOne: The spirit of Clover's Zanpakuto, ''Chishiki'' (Knowledge), is a large owl who inhabits a massive library.
* PapaWolf:
** Torch is unafraid of sending Ember out into the field of battle because he trusts her ability to fight and survive. Do something that threatens her otherwise, like say capturing her, and he will bring down the full wrath of his horde on your head.
** The Lament is already a somewhat unstable guy, but the fastest way to get on his shit-list is to harm the Hollow children he calls his own. [[spoiler:According to Twilight Velvet, he was still this even when he was still Hard Nail]].
* ParentalSubstitute: [[DeconstructedTrope Deconstructed.]] Due to the uncanny resemblance to her mother, both in looks and personality [[spoiler: and literally being her in previous life]] Posey can't help but seek attention and approval from Fluttershy, desperately calling her mother. Fluttershy sees it as an unhealthy obsession and makes it clear that [[DefiedTrope she's not and never will be her mother.]] Still, she says she'll gladly call her a friend and help her workout her issues.
* PastLifeMemories:
** [[spoiler:Sombra has these due to being a {{Reincarnation}} of the Soul Queen's Consort, though he mentions to Twilight that the memories are fragmented, took him centuries to put together enough to make sense of, and notes that some or much of it could be corrupted, misinterpreted or false.]]
** The subject was more elaborated on the Equestrian side, to the point of {{Deconstruction}}. Whenever an Inheritor awakens their relic, their minds might be flooded with memories of their past lives. If the person is not prepared, their current personality might be overwritten the first time they try to access them. That can happen even if their past life is not malicious. Even after getting control over their bodies again, accessing and sorting through the memories might take a while. We're talking about the lifetime of centuries-old beings. And even then, the influx of new memories might make it hard for them to differentiate themselves from their past life. Dash, for example - who was a stallion in their past life - had some difficulty using a bathroom.
* PentUpPowerPeril: The danger in training Fullbringers. The field used to aggravate their powers causes their Hollow energy to build up before painfully escaping. The only way to avoid this is for the user to evolve their Fullbring. [[StuffBlowingUp If not...]]
* PetTheDog:
** Hurricane is Soul Society's premiere {{Jerkass}} and TokenEvilTeamMate and while not the best dad truly loves Posey, his bastard daughter, and goes out of his way to defend her honor when it's insulted.
** Though he hasn't had very many appearances, the Lament seems rather fond of doing this.
** Ravana rescued [[spoiler: Hel/Wallflower]] from Jörmungandr. The reason he did it was because he couldn't stomach what he did to her.
* PercussiveMaintenance: Tempest suggests this in order to get [[spoiler: ''The Treasury'']] up and running. Seaspray only does so as to prove Tempest wrong, only for it to actually work.
* PercussivePrevention: After running into Captain Blueblood, an enraged Rarity orders Sunset to run while she deals with him personally. Sunset, despite not being able to use her right arm fully, is having none of that and prepares to leap in to help right up until [[spoiler: Ditzy Doo]] sucker punches her in the chest and runs off with her slung over her shoulder.
* PersonOfMassDestruction:
** The reason why Captain [[spoiler:Celestia]] refuses to ever use even just her Shikai in a populated area. Apparently, [[MyGreatestFailure the last time she did so was so bad she swore off doing so again]]. Details are sparse, [[spoiler:but it involves the death of Captain Platinum's husband]].
** Princess Celestia is revealed to be this, able to cast extremely powerful magic spells that can decimate her surroundings. The drawback is that [[AwesomeButImpractical these spells take quite a bit of time to prepare and cast]], stating that someone like Tirek could drain her magic before it's completed or Discord could snap his fingers and turn it on her (which he apparently has done in the past).
** Hollow King Tirek and Quincy King Sombra are this without a doubt. Sombra's Schrift "The Absolute" grants him total mastery of space and one way he can manipulate it is to create arrows capable of punching through even the strongest materials. Tirek without releasing his zanpakuto is strong enough to unleash swings capable of destroying ''skyscrapers'' while his Ceros are described as akin to solar flares, and just one shot was almost enough to blast through Shining Armor's [[LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe Bastion power]].
* PhysicalGod:
** [[spoiler: The ancient race of Alicorns that once ruled over Equestria, with many of them proclaiming AGodAmI. When it was discovered that their actions had upset the natural cycle and would lead to TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt, a plan was formed to transfer all their godlike power into different items and [[MortalityEnsues become mortal]] to hopefully repair the natural cycle.]]
** Many of the truly ancient Soul Reapers and Hollows are in fact the children of or just a few generations removed from being the divine children of the Soul Queen, and many of them would become seen as gods. All the members of the Royal Guard are in fact her direct children, while the likes of Tirek and Scorpan are second-generation.
* PiecesOfGod: There are a few characters with pieces of the Soul Queen in the story.
** [[spoiler:Sci-Twi apparently has the Soul Queen's Eye.]]
** [[spoiler:Chrysalis also has a piece of the Soul Queen, which, given her [[MotherOfAThousandYoung reproductive habits]] and the placement of her hands when she revealed this fact, is implied to be her womb. She also seeks to claim the other pieces and take the Soul Queen's place.]]
** [[spoiler:Sombra believes that all mortal souls were originally parts of the various gods descended from the Soul Queen and her consort, who was originally a part of her that she split off.]]
** [[spoiler:The Dazzlings are all Inheritors of a singular Equestrian goddess, who split her essence between them while using a single Relic to contain her power instead of the other way around like all the other known ones did.]]
** [[spoiler:''All'' of the mortal souls in existence are in fact fragments of the slain children of the Soul Queen and her Consort, aka the various deities of different pantheons who died during their wars. The "Zero Plan" intended by the Royal Guard (some of her few remaining children) would in theory result in the resurrection of their fallen siblings by collecting and breaking down the souls in Jigoku into their base particles and reconstructing those deities. Of course, this would mean CessationOfExistence for all but a few "chosen" mortal souls by the end.]]
** [[spoiler:Each of the Zero Division has taken up one of the pieces of the Soul Queen to boost their already impressive power.]]
* PillarOfLight: When Sunset Shimmer first releases her Zanpakuto, [[spoiler:Hokori]], it generates a pillar of fire that can be seen by every spiritually aware person ''in the city''. Happens again when she activates her Bankai. This time tall enough to ''pierce the clouds'' and strong enough to shake the ground like an ''earthquake''.
* PlayingBothSides: [[spoiler:Zero Division is apparently doing their best to keep the Soul Reapers, Quincy, and Arrancars fighting each other for some reason]].
* PlayingWithFire: Sunset Shimmer, naturally [[spoiler:both Equestrian and Human]]. Same with Spitfire of the Quincy who's Schrift is "The Inferno", who remarks that the same applies to [[spoiler:Celestia]]. Torch is completely flame resistant and can breathe fire.
* PleasePutSomeClothesOn:
** Being a [[ShamelessFanserviceGirl Yoruichi]] expy, when [[spoiler:Ditzy Doo]] transforms into her human form, she is completely naked. Sunset, [[AlienAmongUs being a pony]], is unfazed by this, but her friends react just as you'd expect.
** Amusingly, both Lament and Sombra express this opinion of [[spoiler:Adagio]] post-Arrancar transformation, since it didn't come with a change of clothes to replace the original bone armor.
* PoisonousPerson:
** Hydia, complete with DeadlyGas and Acid Spit.
** The Smooze, quite literally since his body is basically a BlobMonster of sickly putrid mass that poisons and kills most things it touches.
** Gilda's Resurreccion gives her this power, specifically in the form of [[ThePowerOfBlood caustic blood]] that can [[PoisonIsCorrosive infect and dissolve inanimate objects and people]].
* PortalCut: [[spoiler:Weaponized by Twilight/Midnight when Velvet's death awakens the Eye within her and it takes partial control of their body, using the magic from the portal offensively against the Lament.]]
* PositiveFriendInfluence: She would never admit it but it's obvious that after a short time with Sunset (and her defeat), Adagio has become a much better person. Keep in mind, she's still motivated by revenge and the improvement of her own living condition. It's just the person she wants to kill is a MadScientist and the people she surrounds herself profit from 'her' success.
* PowerEchoes: Midnight talks this way. Or at least talked, until Twilight demanded from her to stop. After that, her voice changed from an ethereal echo to just smug and sultry.
-->'''Twilight''': Okay, I’ll hear what you have to say, but there are some rules I’m setting down first.\\
'''Midnight''': ''Oh? What rules would those be?''\\
'''Twilight''': First rule; stop doing that thing with your voice and talk like a normal person.\\
'''Midnight''': ''What thing?''\\
'''Twilight''': That thing! The weird and entirely unnecessary echoing quality. Just talk in a normal voice, otherwise I’m going to be distracted the entire time wondering how you’re even doing it in the first place.\\
'''Midnight''': Fine, ruin all my fun why don’t you?

* PowerCopying: Several characters duplicate the powers and abilities of other characters/groups.
** During the Hueco Mundo siege to slay Squirk, Sombra keeps Tirek out of the fight by using his SpaceMaster powers and trapping him with him in a pocket dimension that Tirek notes is based off of the Caja Negacion technique.
** Starswirl once slew a Sternritter who could copy other powers.
** Starswirl's own Bankai lets him produce reishi particles in such a way that he can mimic the Quincy ability to create reishi construct weapons, like machine guns and missiles, duplicate Kido spells, and even mimic Hollow energy to fire Ceros.
** Grogar's Resurrección form can mimic the Smooze's PoisonousPerson goop, Torch's flames, Guto's chains, and Squirk's rapid Garganta creation abilities, among others, though each canister of these replicated powers has a limited amount of uses, and he can apparently only use four at once. Combined with him copying Adagio's Siren Gem and combining it with what is implied to be the power of the [[spoiler:Arrancar Storm King]] to absorb power from his slain experiments, Celestia accuses him of [[CreativeSterility not having anything of his own instead of stolen powers]].
** [[spoiler:Discord’s Hogyoku is modified so that the Humane Seven should be able to do this to a degree.]]
** Morgawr's PowerTattoo enhancing his body is deliberately noted to be similar to the Blut techniques of the Quincy in the narration. [[spoiler:Given that Charybids has knowledge of Earth and the spiritual beings that inhabit it, this may have been intentional]].
* PoweredArmor:
** Applejack's Evolved Fullbring is a reduced variant, consisting of armor for just her arms and legs and like that [[ComicBook/IronMan "fella wit the fancy armor suit"]] she can use them to fly. Her Completed Fulbring is a near perfectly form fitting golden armour with skull motif and many faintly visible circular ports.
** [[spoiler:Firefly's]] Complete Fullbring "Ace Of Sky" is a more complete example.
* PoweredByAForsakenChild:
** The Quincy access Hueco Mundo via two captive Gillians kept in forced hibernation by Quincy alchemy, forcing them to create Gargantas. Twilight, upon seeing this, vows to create a better way.
** The Cross Gate to Equestria requires a colossal amount of energy. So much that [[spoiler: Starlight]] had to use the power of Sokyoku to power it up. [[spoiler: Chrysalis and Grogar]] go around by capturing and suspending a number of Hollows to drain them from their energy.
* PowerGivesYouWings:
** Rainbow Dash is the absolute Queen of this trope. With every power-up gaining on power and speed. First, she had her regular [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirlsFriendshipGames blue wings]]. After that, they evolved into a pair of white, razor-sharp wings with rainbow colors along the fringes and crackling [[ShockAndAwe electric energy]]. In her evolved Fullbring, he'd six wings; two still made out of metal but bigger and four seemingly forged from solidified electricity. Finally, her Completed Fullbring gained a full meter of wingspan and transmuted into jets of solid light, while the electric wings turned, long, elegant and solid blades of metal, [[spoiler: not unlike her mother's]]. Firefly could only stare in awe upon seeing them.
** [[ZigZaggingTrope Played with]] Fluttershy. She still has her pegasus wings but, unlike Rainbow, they don't change and simply drown in the number of extra limbs.
** [[spoiler: Firefly]] has her powered armor with a series of blade-like energy wings and boots with smaller fin-like wings.
** Sunset's bankai gives her twin wings of phoenix flame, flowing with power and heat which can be used as jets to increase speed. Sunset compares the level of power to the [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirls1 two]] [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirlsFriendshipGames previous]] moments in her life when she had wings.
** Guto's Ressurection takes a form that brings to mind an Aztec warrior with clothes decorated with feathers and the head of an eagle yet [[ZigZaggingTrope instead of wings]] he has jet turbines made out of bones.
** Every Quincy gets wings in the Vollständig state but, they are all shaped in different kinds. To describe a few, there is a Sterrniter with five wings looking like heater shields floating around his back, one with a pair of glowing butterfly wings, one with circles made of fire that (the narration even mentions ancient texts describing angelic beings), one with two large, thin tendrils that were spawning even more tendrils, and one with wings made of clockwork. There are no set standards. There are as many types, as there are Sterrniters.
* ThePowerOfApathy: Weaponized by Harshwhinny. Her power, The Uncaring, produces a powerful sense of apathy in her targets that leaves them sapped of their willpower, such as their will to fight or defend themselves against attacks, leaving them vulnerable to enemy attacks. [[spoiler: [[HoistByHisOwnPetard It ends working against her when fighting the Fourth Espada.]] While it makes him care less about his ally [[TeethClenchedTeamwork (which he only because of politeness)]] it also makes him more focused and determined to kill all threats while blocking out his deeper emotional turmoil.]]
* ThePowerOfCreation:
** Captain Starswirl's Shikai allows him to produce any chemical structure he's aware of be it solid, liquid or gas, and he knows not only of nearly every Earth-based chemical but many Spirit-World native ones and quite a few unique compounds he's made himself. His Bankai expands this power to include reishi particles and massively ups the production speed and volume, allowing him to do things from mimic the Quincy's ability to form reishi constructs by creating all manner of spirit-based weaponry (such as machine guns and missiles) to producing facsimiles of Kido spells to even mimicking Hollow energy to fire Ceros.
** Filthy Rich's Schrift, The Mason, allows him to transform reishi or reishi-imbued materials into other solid materials at will. He normally prefers to use it to create and repair large fortifications, completing with bristling weaponry like cannons, but can even use it, at least in Vollstandig, to transmute his own blood into large chains.
* ThePowerOfHate:
** This, along with sporadic sacrifices, is what kept [[spoiler: Gaia]] alive. Her hate towards Chrysalis is so strong it kept her [[DamagedSoul fragmented soul]] together for centuries.
** [[spoiler:Once he senses the spiritual energy around Aqualania, Flash is struck by the sheer ''hate'' in it.]]
** When a sinner gets sentenced to Hell, they become part of it. And if their hatred is strong enough they can manifest powers through that connection. Like [[spoiler: Sunburst]] and [[PlayingWithFire his flames]] or [[spoiler: Cozy]] and her [[ChainPain control over Hell Chains.]]
* ThePowerOfLove: Human Chrysalis believes in this, though unlike her Equestrian counterpart who believes only she and other Changelings can use it, she acknowledges anyone can use it and admires both the good and ''especially'' bad things love will make someone do. Of course, like her counterpart she also believes people who let themselves be ruled by it are weak.
* PowerParasite: Human Starlight's Zanpakuto, ''Sekai Chitsujo'' (World Order) lets her steal Zanpakuto spirits and use their powers. She can even lend them to other people at will. However, the Zanpakuto must be released and directed at her (even accidentally), which means she just can't steal them willy-nilly [[spoiler:and why she had to set up the executions of Celestia and Luna by Sokyoku since the powerful Zanpakuto is only released during said executions]], in most shown cases she actually has to make physical contact with the Zanpakuto with her own to steal it, and she only seems able to use one Zanpakuto's power herself at a time (this doesn't apply to a Zanpakuto she lends out). It's also speculated that she needs to keep the Soul Reaper she steals the blade from alive to keep using it, since a Zanpakuto is supposed to die with its Soul Reaper.
** Thorax's Resurrección form has the ability "Sifon del Alma,” or "Soul Siphon", which allows him to siphon off some of his foe's reiatsu and consume it if he "tasted" it before releasing the form.
** Morgawr's trident can absorb magic directed at it.
** Bakkoto, as in canon, are parasitic and will drain the spiritual energy of whoever uses them, but Starlight discovers that they can also feed off ''magic''.
** [[spoiler:Rarity's]] Sinner power lets them drain the strength of others using their chains.
* PowerTattoo: Morgawr's tattoos, given to him by Charybdis, which allow him to enhance himself in a similar manner to the Quincy Blut techniques.
* PredecessorVillain: The Queen of Thorns [[spoiler:Gaia Everfree]], the former Second Espada who was usurped by Chrysalis. [[spoiler:What was left of her was nurtured by a cult over the centuries that in the modern day it turns out were Gloriousa and Timber's ancestors.]]
* PregnantBadass:
** Cadance. She's a powerful Sternritter skilled enough to fight an Espada one on one, which is rare for Quincy. Granted, her pregnancy is still in the early stage, and the only reason she knows about it is that Sapphire used her powers on her. She's worried that she won't be able to do her duties once [[PapaWolf Shining]] finds out.
** She hadn't shown her skills, yet but just the fact she holds a high rank in military organization, it's safe to assume that Radiant Hope is pretty badass. [[spoiler: She was strong enough to [[TearJerker save herself or her unborn child]].]]
* PrettyBoy: Thorax is described as an effeminately handsome man.
* {{Pride}}: Sunset's greatest personality trait [[spoiler:and the very emotion that embodies her Zanpakuto spirit, who takes the form of her demon self]]. Part of Sunset's struggle to manifest her Shikai is in fact [[spoiler:to come to terms with the fact that while her pride did lead to her banishment and transformation into a monster, it also lead her to becoming the best at what she could do]]. Only once she accepts this [[spoiler:does her demon self finally relent enough to allow her to unleash her power, and her Zanpakuto's full name is ''Hokori no Hikari'' (Pride's Light)]].
* PropheticNames: In the comics, Amore and Radiant Hope had a very strong connection with Sombra. Only time will tell what the relationship between the three we see in this story will be. Radiant Hope is revealed to be [[spoiler:a former Quincy and Sombra's wife whose soul ended up in Soul Society due to how her soul is connected to the Eye of the Soul Queen and a Soul Reaper purified her before Sombra could collect her soul when she died.]]
* PunnyName: [[spoiler: ''Flash'' Sentry]] can use the FlashStep.

[[folder:Q-R]]
* QualityVsQuantity: This is the dynamic that keeps all sides fairly even.
** The Quincies are heavy on "Quantity". Individually their warriors are the weakest fighters, with even their Sternritter often needing to pair up on Espada or Captains. You'd also be hard-press to find a Quincy who's lived much longer than an average human lifespan outside of Sombra or his elites. But they have the advantage of numbers, their technological prowess is the most advanced of all the factions, and their birth rates boom pretty well to replenish their numbers and even Sternritter, of which there are 26, can be replaced as easily as Sombra finding a sufficiently strong candidate and giving them a fallen member's Schrift.
** The Arrancar are heavy on "Quality". Most Arrancar are decades, if not centuries or millennia old, and have honed themselves on the DeathWorld of Hueco Mundo to survive. Individually, Arrancar outmatch most Soul Reapers and Quincies for raw power, and the Espada are noted to be on average the strongest of the individual elite factions of the war. However, Arrancar due to low birth rates (even if not ''quite'' so low as it might seem at first glance since fornicating is probably one of their favorite pastimes when not fighting), low survival rates of said children in said DeathWorld, and the long time it takes Arrancars of any worth to be created from Menos Hollows means they can't easily replenish their losses, and even though they can and will bolster their ranks with lesser Hollows and Menos it only helps so much.
** The Soul Reapers are in-between. They have a larger army and elite faction than Arrancar if not possibly not quite as much as the Quincies and can replenish it fairly well both due to birth rates and recruitment souls coming into Soul Society. Individually they can surpass Quincies for power and hold their own against Arrancar, and again the average age and experience of a Soul Reaper is between a Quincy and an Arrancar. However, they can't as easily replace someone of Captain level or even Lieutenant level as the Quincy can their Sternritter, and on an individual level an Espada could still likely surpass a Captain.
* RagTagBunchOfMisfits:
** [[spoiler:Adagio]] is slowly making one. So far, it consists of Ember, Di Roy, and Gaw.
** Human Starlight's group. They're all very different, but they all have two things in common: They're all very powerful and they all have a bone to pick with Soul Society.
* RankScalesWithAsskicking:
** Sombra and Tirek are the Quincy King and Hollow King[=/=]Espada #1, and therefore the strongest of the Quincies and Hollows respectively. Chrysalis is Espada #2 and Tirek's NumberTwo, with the narration referring to her as essentially the Hollow Queen and the only other one in Tirek's army aside from himself who could possibly fight Sombra on equal ground [[spoiler:and her subordinate Thorax is apparently strong enough that he can masquerade as her in Hueco Mundo with none the wiser]].
** Captain-Commander Scorpan is the most powerful member of the Gotei 13. His spiritual power is so great it can destroy weaker Hollows on contact!
** All the members of the Zero Division are the founders of Soul Society and its highest authority short [[spoiler:in theory]] of the Soul Queen herself, and each one is ''at least'' in Scorpan's weight class, if not stronger.
* RapidFireFisticuffs: Fluttershy of all people. Helps she has [[MultiArmedAndDangerous six arms and can generate more.]] [[spoiler: Not that it helps against member of Zero Division.]]
* RazorFloss: Ember invokes this when seeing how Roka heals people, (she uses needles and thread) saying how it could easily be used to tear things apart rather than sew them back together.
* ReadingLips: Sugarcoat can read lips, even from a distance with her visor.
* RealityWarper:
** Discord's Zanpaktou, ''Konran Arashi'', (Chaos Storm) is half this and half SpaceMaster. It has the power to disrupt naturally existing orders. Whether that be the order in one’s body, or the order of spirit energy that creates a Zanpaktou’s powers, or even more fundamental laws like the direction sound travels through the air. In other words, anyone that gets hit with it gets an InterfaceScrew. Its Bankai is even more powerful, but also more dangerous because it's area-of-effect and he can't guarantee the safety of anyone who gets caught up in it by accident [[spoiler:like what happened to Screwball and Screwloose when they got hit by the tail-end of it during his fight with Starlight Glimmer during her betrayal.]]
** Pinkie's evolved Fullbring is basically the RuleOfFunny weaponized such that she can distort the laws of physics as long as the result can be considered a "gag".
** Hoity Toity's Schrift, The Xenomorph, allows him to transform any and all physical matter he implants with his reiatsu as he desires, to the point that at full power, he can even transform his own body such that it resembles someone else or that it changes forms of matter from 'solid' to 'liquid' to even a full-on EnergyBeing state. It's major weakness is that a sufficiently strong spiritual pressure can resist him.
** Sci-Twi's Schrift, The Variable, provides a limited version of this. By analyzing the target of her choice, including herself, she can change the "variables" about it to her liking. This can let her do things from changing the "speed" and "direction" of her own attacks, to switching around "resistances" and "weaknesses", to even [[GenderBender switching from "female" to "male"]].
** The Soul Queen's powers included using her absolute command of reishi to reshape the world around her.
* RedBaron:
** Centuries ago, there existed a powerful Arrancar. Everyone in Las Noches has heard about her, but besides the facts that she was powerful and she was the first Segunda Espada [[ShroudedInMyth no one besides a few old enough to meet her knows anything about her.]] After a spat with the current Segunda Espada, Chrysalis, she'd disappeared, but it's unknown if she's dead or became a Privaron Espada. So she's better known as The Queen of Thorns. [[spoiler: Her real name is Gaia. [[LegendFadesToMyth Better known as Gaia Everfree]].]]
** Ofridr has a lot of titles. In Nifheim he is known as "Thousand Wails of the Dead" for his Violin can mimic the wails of the dead, and his ability to control them. In Alfheim, he's known as "Lifebane" after destroying two of their clans. However, his favorite title is the one he gave himself - Dirge Singer.
* {{Reincarnation}}:
** As always, the cycle of life, death and rebirth. Once the living pass on, they either go to Soul Society or become Hollows, and once they die in Soul Society they return to the Spirit Realm to eventually be reborn in the living world. Memories between both worlds don't usually last the journey, though there are plenty of exceptions with PastLifeMemories and those who remember their living lives. Physical appearances and even gender don't usually stay the same either, though again exceptions do exist. However, it is the law of Soul Society to treat reincarnated individuals as their own person separate from who they were in a past life. [[spoiler:Fluttershy for example is the reincarnation of former 11th Division Lieutenant Pansy, the mother of current Lieutenant Posey and the lover of Captain Hurricane, and according to both of them she's all but an exact copy.]]
** How Sombra's soul absorption of Quincies work. When they die, he draws them into his own soul and body to gestate for a period time before they are reborn without memories of who they are. It can effectively be described as a faster method over how the usual cycle works. However, not all of the souls go to him directly, as was the case with Radiant Hope due to the fact she was cleansed by a Soul Reaper first and went to Soul Society rather than back to him, and presumably a Quincy soul devoured by a Hollow is equally lost. As it turns out, Twilight Sparkle herself is a reincarnation of [[spoiler:Sombra and Radiant Hope's unborn child.]]
** [[spoiler:Sunburst was consigned to Hell because he was the reincarnation of a member of the Star family, who rebelled against Soul Society over the formation of Central 46]].
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Sombra, Scorpan, Starswirl, Tirek, and Grogar are some of the oldest beings in this universe, with Tirek and Scorpan having been alive when the Soul Queen was still in her prime [[spoiler:and the former was there to witness her fall]] while Sombra [[spoiler:is the human reincarnation of the Soul Queen's Consort]], and Starswirl and Grogar are from the same generation as Scorpan and Tirek.
** [[spoiler:Sapphire Shores is roughly six hundred years old.]]
** [[spoiler:Sunset notes that Gaia Everfree's memories show Scorpan when he was apparently in his ''twenties'', and she mentions Ares, as in the ''Greek God'', in the present tense.]]
* RelatedInTheAdaptation:
** Captain Platinum and Pipsqueak. In Equestria, Platinum is a Princess from before Celestia and Luna's rule, while Pipsqueak is a modern-day young Colt who goes to the same school with CMC. In human World Platinum is Pipsqueak's mother.
** [[spoiler:Fenice is the younger sister of the Human Sunburst as the children of Stellar Flare, which leads Sunset to wonder if she's related to Equestrian Sunburst.]]
** [[spoiler:Played around with by Rainbow's mother. While canon Rainbow Dash's (and presumably her Equestria Girl's counterpart) mother is Windy Whistles, here Firefly is her mother while Windy is Firefly's sister and thus Rainbow's aunt. However, Rainbow's dad Bow Hothoof is heavily implied to be [[SettleForSibling falling for Windy]] after all the years Firefly has been gone, which Rainbow doesn't actually mind.]]
* RequiredSecondaryPowers:
** Although Arrancars, Soul Reapers, and Quincies have super strength and durability, they still weigh the same as ordinary people, meaning they can get knocked down by ordinary people if they don't brace themselves.
** Quincies have to activate [[SuperToughness Blut Vene]] before using [[FlashStep Hirenkyaku]] so that the excessive G-Forces don't kill them. [[spoiler:When Twilight augments her Hirenkyaku with magic to make it even faster, Midnight warns her even by also strengthening her body with magic alongside her Blut Vene she's risking hurting herself if pushed too hard for too long.]]
** Similarly to the Quincy example above, Applejack notes during her fight with Troubleshoes that her Fullbring forms a protective aura around her body, allowing her to jet around at breakneck speeds without hurting herself. She suspects that Rainbow's does the same thing, as do the others, if to a lesser degree.
** Twilight's Schrift The Variable is incredibly versatile, but it's main drawback is that in order to make it work at its full potential she needs to ''know'' exactly what the thing she's trying to change the variables of is, or at the very least make educated guesses as to its nature, plus she needs the mathematical and scientific knowledge to know what variables she wants to change and by how much (which makes her incredible intellect quite useful).
** Sunset is normally immune to her own Zanpaktou flames, but her black flames, drawing from her wrath, can even injure her.
** Fenice is fully immune to the molten rock her MagmaMan powers generate, and has full control of its motion besides, allowing her to "surf" a wave of magma.
** Celestia is similarly immune to the incredible heat of her Shikai.
** The spell that grants Twilight and company their underwater physiology has a few, namely sensory adaptations and adaptations for rapid decompression.
* RetroactiveWish: When Sour Sweet is interrupted mid-sentence saying that Sombra wouldn't summon Twilight to see him out of nowhere by a messenger... requesting Twilight's presence, she tries again, specifically asking for a million dollars and a "oiled up, half naked adonis", as she puts it, to fall into her lap, and is disappointed when it fails to happen.
* RevenantZombie: Draugrs are people or creatures whose souls have been caught and trapped/tied/bound to their bodies with Anima. They retain their personalities, memories, skills, and abilities they had in life, and basically only their decaying bodies and blue eyes betray their state. They are also bound to the one that reanimated and they have to obey their orders.
* RevengeBeforeReason:
** Applejack begins to slip into this due to her desire to kill Grand Fisher [[spoiler:for murdering her parents]].
** [[spoiler:Gaia Everfree/Gloriosa Daisy thanks to their mutual grudges being amplified by the Equestrian magic they've absorbed. It's the reason why Sunset can't let her go without a fight, since she made it clear she'd kill every Hollow, Quincy, and Soul Reaper around Camp Everfree unless smacked around until she gets her sense back.]]
* RoaringRampageOfRescue: [[spoiler:Adagio's plan to get Ember back from the Soul Reapers in a nutshell, with the help of her Arrancar friends, Sunset, the Humane Five, and Human Twilight of course to ensure it doesn't become a bloodbath. The need to keep it from devolving into a full-out blood bath and destroying everything between Canterlot City and Camp Everfree is the reason why she kept Torch and his horde out of it.]]
* RuleOfFunny: Pinkie's evolved Fullbring weaponizes this. Whenever she strikes something with the hammer, it reacts in a hilarious way, like forming a springboard under someone's feet or absorbing an energy blast with a loud belching sound. It pretty much [[RealityWarper lets her warp reality on a limited scale as long as the result can be considered a gag...such as forcing the fight between her and Cheese Sandwich to literally function by 2D fighting game mechanics]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:S-T]]
* {{Sadist}}: This gets invoked twice with Ditzy Doo. The first time (when she tells the Humane Five she named her daughter Derpy) is PlayedForLaughs, the second time (when she's putting them through TrainingFromHell) not so much.
* SadisticChoice: Medley gives Ravana a choice, either he sends [[spoiler: Human Sunset/Fenice]] to Hueco Mundo or she'll fight him right there, most likely killing her in the process. Ravana calls her out of it, but Medley counters it saying that as a half-hollow she has a bigger chance of survival there.
* SanitySlippage: The Lament. Becoming a Hollow has quite clearly taken its toll on his sanity.
* ScarsAreForever:
** Luna gains a scar over eye. While it would be easy to remove, she keeps it as a reminder until she settles her match with the Arrancar who gave it to her. [[WorthyOpponent She says it's not sign of a grudge but a respect.]]
** After battle Sunset had fought, she accumulated a myriad of scars that even [[MadScientist Discord's expertise]] and [[TheMedic Fluttershy's power]] can't erase completely.
* SealedInsideAPersonShapedCan: [[spoiler:Human Twilight is revealed to have something known as "The Eye" sealed inside her that's been there since she was born. Details are vague, but it's all but stated this "Eye" is a part of the Soul Queen.]]
* SecretTestOfCharacter: The Lament subjects [[spoiler:Adagio]] to two. The first one is implied to be how she interacted with his children, and the second one was how she interacted with his dog.
* SeeingThroughAnothersEyes: Grogar installed implants that let him spy on Adagio and her surroundings via her own perspective. [[spoiler:It wouldn't be until the Everfree Arc that Discord would find and remove them.]]
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: Upon a first time, seeing Ditzy's (who's a Yoruichi Expy, [[spoiler: and a Visored,]]) Human form, the heroes can't help but gawk. Dash even [[ACupAngst felt jealous.]]
* {{Shapeshifting}}:
** Chrysalis, natch. [[spoiler:With Zecora's zanpakuto added to the mix thanks to Starlight, she could pass flawlessly for the 4th Division Captain, while her drones are capable of masquerading as members of Central 46 and Thorax can masquerade as ''her'' back in Hueco Mundo]].
** [[spoiler: Sweetie Belle's Fullbring allows her to transform into whatever she absorbs into it, with the addition of CartoonyEyes.]]
** [[spoiler:As part of the power of The Xenomorph, Hoity Toity can change his own or other's physical appearances. However, he can't change their reishi signature. ''However'', when combined with Sapphire Shores' own Schrift that can change the fundamental nature of reishi at her discretion, suddenly they can create the perfect disguise.]]
** Just like her Counterpart, Equestrian Chrysalis can Shapeshift. Arguably her powers are even more potent as she can transform into other beings (like dragons or redcap) and gain their powers. She can even [[PartialTransformation transform parts of her body into weapons and minerals.]] The main downside is that she needs love to transform.
* ShieldBash:
** Sunset doesn't hesitate to use her shield offensively in combat, and it even has a sharpened lower tip just for that reason.
** Fluttershy proves to be surprisingly efficient in it as much as in shielding herself and her friends.
* ShroudedInMyth: There was once a powerful Arrancar, nicknamed The Queen of Thorns. Everyone in Las Noches has heard about her, yet no one besides a few old enough to meet her knows anything about her. After a battle with Chrysalis, she'd disappeared, but no one is sure what had happened to her. Chrysalis deliberately [[NothingIsScarier uses the lack of information]] as a warning to anyone thinking about challenging her. [[spoiler: Later turns out that her real name is Gaia. Better known as Gaia Everfree.]]
* ShockAndAwe:
** Rainbow Dash can create and build up electricity in her body, combined with RazorWings.
** Spike's [[MiniMecha suit]] possesses both shock missiles and an electric sword.
* ShoutOut:
** Applejack [[Film/IronMan mentions]] certain "fella wit fancy armour suit from them big budget superher flicks" before using her [[HandBlast gauntlets and boots]] to fly.
** Confirmed by WordOfGod, [[spoiler:Firefly's]] Fullbring "Ace of Sky" is one to HumongousMecha {{Anime}} like Gundam, able to manifest constructs including AttackDrones, [[PowerGivesYouWings Energy Wings]], a {{BFG}} [[GatlingGood Gatling gun]] and a LaserBlade, among other abilities.
** Gaw is one big one to [[{{Kaiju}} the giant Japanese monster movie franchise]] as well as ''Fanfic/TheBridge''. She is named after a very obscure one tied to King Kong lore.
** Chapter 54, featuring the climatic showdown between Sunset and Platinum during the Soul Society Arc, is titled "[[Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire A Showdown of Ice and Fire]]".
** Twilight suspects that the Seele Schneiders were created by a Quincy who was a ''Franchise/StarWars'' fan.
** Chapter 96, featuring the Equestria Girls and Shadowbolts working together to fight a large sea monster, is titled "[[Manga/AttackOnTitan Attack on Kraken]]".
** Grogar and Pinkie Pie/Pinkamena's fight has one of the battle gags being the former thrown into the courtroom of ''VisualNovel/AceAttorney'', complete with the series' theme in acapella (with Grogar expressing his hatred for the genre of music).
** Chapter 124: Clover firing rapid-fire Kido spells at [[spoiler:Gaia Everfree]] and her physically-superior opponent's annoyed and angry reaction to continuously being battered by explosions is more or less [[WebVideo/DragonBallZAbridged Tien blasting Semi-Perfect Cell]].
** In her battle with [[spoiler:Gaia Everfree,]] Pinkamena used blue and orange portals to save Applejack from a Cero. AJ noted, she hold some [[VideoGame/{{Portal}} weird-looking white plastic gun.]]
-->'''Pinkamena''': Just yanked you through a portal. Don’t think about it too hard.
** The fish people that [[spoiler:kidnap Aria and Sonata]] are [[TabletopGame/ForgottenRealms sahuagin]].
** The ''character'' know how much Spike's new [[PoweredArmor Mech Suit]] looks like Bladewolf from VideoGame/MetalGearRisingRevengeance mixed with Zords from Franchise/PowerRangers. Its name Gunwolf might be an accidental shout-out to [[VideoGame/Borderlands3 Borderlands 3's]] enemy with the same name.
* ShutUpHannibal: As Flash prepares to perform the Konso Ritual on [[spoiler: the bound Wraiths of Seaquestria]], Charybdis screams at him to stop, saying that what he's doing is far worse than anything she's ever done. He has none of it, and counters that even if she wasn't trying to kill them, this is still his duty as a Soul Reaper and he will fulfill it no matter what she says. Even after she swears to destroy everything he holds dear, he just calmly says that he's the least of her worries...
* SinisterScythe:
** [[spoiler:Luna's]] Zanpakuto takes the form of dual scythes in Shikai, complete with CastingAShadow powers. When she goes Bankai, her werewolf form has literal scythes for claws. [[spoiler:And when she goes all out, she creates a single giant two-handed scythe with dual blades at both ends and covered along the shaft with smaller blades to swing with reckless abandon.]]
** Cheese Sandwich's Shikai takes the form of a kusarigama (chain-sickle) with multiple scythe blades at one end reminiscent of a rooster head and a large incense orb replacing an iron ball at the other.
** [[spoiler: Nereid Adagio]] wields an obsidian scythe wrapped in shark skin.
* SlaveryIsASpecialKindOfEvil: Unlike other Espada, Guto would prefer to enslave Quincy as cannon fodder and servants. He captured Fleur with a plan to 'tame' her and demonstrate Tirek that it is possible. He would also include humanity as well. He mentions rather elaborate plans for how to effectively breed them.
* SmugSuper: Fleur Des Lis, Captain Platinum, and Captain Blueblood are this in spades, looking down at Sunset and the girls for their inexperience as if they were little kids playing at real power. Considering they're all three are extremely powerful and experienced fighters (a Sternritter of the Vandenreich and Captains of the Gotei 13 respectively), they do have a point, though Fleur takes a few blows to the ego once Sunset [[spoiler:goes Shikai]] and it's noted that Blueblood's ego (along with lack of experience) [[UnskilledButStrong keeps him from fully developing his powers]].
* TheSocialDarwinist: Las Noches, and to a lesser extent all of Hueco Mundo, runs on this. Tirek, as possibly the most powerful Hollow/Arrancar to ever exist, is at the top of the hierarchy, and position in the Espada below him is determined by strength (though in some cases [[WeakButSkilled useful abilities can compensate somewhat for lack of raw power]], like with Squirk and his Garganta creation skills, Grogar's technical skills, etc.). Part of the reason he goes with this approach is because he wants strong warriors to fight the Quincy and Soul Reapers.
* SoulPower: Besides the various races and beings with abilities that come from manipulating spirit energy, Charybdis has a form of magic that gives her direct control of spirit energy, and allows her to affect things both alive and dead, along with transferring power.
** Her sahuagin minion's BloodMagic seems to work similarly to Fullbring, using the power of the blood to manipulate the "soul" of the ocean, which the seaponies can do on their own.
* SpaceMaster:
** Sombra's "Absolute" gives him mastery of space.
** Soul Reaper Flash Sentry's Shikai bends space so he appears to be in multiple locations at the same time, mirroring him so he can attack from multiple angles at once. The catch is that doing so is disorienting, and anything that affects one of him affects ''all'' of the Flashes, since they're all the same entity.
* SpamAttack: After training with Captain Puddinhead of the Kido Corps, Clover can now invoke multiple Kido in quick succession, allowing her to rain down an assault of low-level Kido against foes.
* SpearCounterpart: Adagio immediately pegs Thorax as a male version of herself. They're both beautiful and charismatic schemers who are skilled at manipulating people but are not afraid to get into a fight if it comes to that.
* SplitPersonality:
** The memories from their past lives are just that - memories. Yet, they can form a separate entity based on inherited experiences. How their cooperation goes usually depends on their past-time personality. Astra and Anteros prefer to act as advisors until their current lives [[SplitPersonalityMerge absorb their memories]]. [[EnemyWithin Eos]], on the other hand, tries to forcefully take over Celestia, [[HeroicWillpower only for her strong will to keep her at bay.]]
** [[spoiler: Wallflower]] is actually a new personality Hel's mind developed after having her memories suppressed. And since regaining her old memories, Hel is in control, but she expresses annoyance that the meek, WeakWilled girl has enough power to try and resurface.
* SplitPersonalityTeam:
** Pinkie's Fullbring allows her to bring Pinkamena, who is the embodiment of her repressed negativity and emotions, into the physical world, and Pinkie eventually [[EquippableAlly becomes a hammer]] for Pinkamena to wield. [[spoiler:In the Camp Everfree arc, completing their Fullbring merges them physically together again, though they later reveal that they can separate again if needed, but allowing them to remain as distinct mental entities]].
** Twilight eventually manages to come to a mutual understanding with Midnight to the point where they begin working together in combat, Twilight handling Quincy reishi manipulation and Midnight focusing on magic.
* SquareCubeLaw: As Ember puts it to Adagio, "mass is mass". A larger Adjuchas might not be anything special in terms of spiritual power, but its larger mass means that its blows can still send a Hollow of greater strength but smaller size flying. Similarly, Soul Reapers, Quincies, and Arrancars only weigh as much as a normal human, so if caught off-guard even an ordinary human can knock them down.
* {{Squick}}: The rumor is that both [=McColts=] and Hooffields - took the "pure breeding" concept a little too far. Even Sombra notes he should do something about it.
* StarterVillain: Grand Fisher is the ArcVillain of the first arc, acting as the girls' first hurdle as they enter the spiritual world.
* StopWorshippingMe: After Celestia and Luna first appeared, some ponies started treating them as deities. They stomped that out pretty quickly, to the point that their discouragement has led to Equestria lacking ''any'' kind of central religious belief system. Applejack even had some trouble comprehending the ''idea'' that seaponies worshipped Domare as a goddess.
* StrongAndSkilled: Bowtie, who matches [[UnskilledButStrong Sweet Cider]] in strength but outclasses her in [[MasterSwordsman fencing skills.]] He's eager to point it out. It bears mentioning that in the past [[spoiler:when Zero Division made their move against the Soul Queen]], he was the one who fought ''Tirek''.
* SummonMagic: Pinkie Pie's initial Fullbring power is to summon her EvilTwin, Pinkamena. [[spoiler:The next step involves [[EquippableAlly turning into a hammer]] for Pinkamena to wield]].
* SuperEmpowering: Charybdis's SoulPower magic allows her to share powers with others. Several Beast Realm clans have gained spell-like abilities from "contracts" with her.
* SuperMode: Soul Reapers have Shikai and Bankai, Arrancar have Resurreccion, and Quincy have Vollstandig. Sombra explicitly mentions that he had his people develop Vollstandig to close the gap against the other two races' {{Super Mode}}s, it being a relatively new development that was only openly used for the first time during the story's events.
* SuperPowerfulGenetics: How Quincies keep up with Soul Reapers who have centuries of experience on them. The purer their blood the faster their body instinctively learns and picks up techniques and skill at an accelerated pace when exposed to other Quincy. Best shown with Twilight instinctively learning Blut Arterie from sparring with Lemon Zest (and blowing a hole through her body in the process).
* SuperPrototype: The Zanpaktou of the Zero Division are the first of their kind, forged by the Zero Division member [[UltimateBlacksmith Bowtie]] for himself and his fellow divine siblings. The mass-produced Asauchi that would become the standard Soul Reaper Zanpaktou came later when Soul Society was established and are much weaker due to how most Soul Reapers are mostly still human souls [[spoiler:(or rather, [[PiecesOfGod fragmented divine souls]])]] that couldn't hope to handle that kind of power, and [[OldSoldier Scorpan's]] own Zanpakutou ''Shiki no Ken'' was the first of even those, an "in-between" stage before Bowtie settled on the Asauchi. Most notably, the Zero Division's Zanpaktou don't have "Shikai" or "Bankai" states to restrict their power, but instead call upon their true power with only the {{Invocation}} of their names, and their base power without it already rivals if not surpasses most Bankai abilities.
* SuperSpeed: Almost everyone with sufficiently high amounts of reiatsu has it, but several impressive examples include Rainbow Dash, Ditzy Doo, and Catrina.
* TakeOverTheWorld:
** The Sixth Espada Guto admits he's pretty much the only Espada who wants to conquer the Quincy rather than eradicate them (Tirek's offered alliance, but Sombra's always refused), seeing them as useful tools and slaves for dealing with the Soul Reapers and eventually taking over the Human World. His zanpakuto is even called ''Conquistador'' (Conqueror).
** [[spoiler:Scylla planned to take over the world after taking the throne.]]
* TakingYouWithMe: [[spoiler:What Twilight Velvet ''intended'' to do in her fight against The Lament when it becomes clear even her Vollstandig and Schrift aren't powerful enough to defeat his Resurreccion. By utilizing the Vengeance's final attack, she would unleash an explosion that would kill or at least cripple him...but when Twilight teleports in trying to save her, she has to switch to just using her LastBreathBullet to restrain The Lament to keep him from killing her daughter (and to avoid definitely blowing her daughter up in her original planned attack).]]
* TallPoppySyndrome: [[spoiler:Adagio Dazzle]] learns that while Las Noches is ruled by the motto of "[[TheSocialDarwinist the strong will rise while the weak serve]]", the higher and more importantly the ''quicker'' you rise will get you all sorts of attention, with the higher ups intrigued or threatened by a potential threat to their status quo (especially if you're nearing their level) while your supposed peers rankle at the idea you got it "easy" by breezing through the ranks at speeds that took them years of training and struggle to reach. The current Fourth Espada is equally feared and envied for coming out of nowhere a few years back, crippling the former Sixth Espada when the latter tried to "teach him a lesson", and then fighting Tirek before being given his seat. [[spoiler:Adagio follows suit when she goes from a simple Adjuchas to a Vasto Lorde, and later still an Arrancar worthy as the new Sixth Espada over the current one Guto (a very prideful warrior who didn't take kindly to how she chose to be tested by Tirek rather than face him directly, though to be fair, she would have taken the position of the Seventh Espada to avoid ruffling his feathers if Tirek had let her) in the span of only about a month]]. About the only person who ''doesn't'' really care is [[AsskickingLeadsToLeadership Tirek]], since he's so strong no one can hope to match him in a one-on-one and he wants strong warriors no matter what their circumstances.
-->'''[[spoiler:Adagio]]''': Oh for the love of...''stop'' acting like such a child! Are you that bothered by my being stronger than you that you’d rather get your idiot-self killed than just accept your position for what it is? You’re still an Espada. Get over yourself and start acting like one!\\
'''Gilda''': What would you know about it? You’ve been an Arrancar for barely a fraction as long as I have! Do you have any idea what I’ve been through to get where I am? How long I’ve fought, and bitten, and clawed my way through Guto’s army to ''earn'' their respect and a shot at reaching the top! How many years I’ve done nothing but train, and fight, and train, and ''fight'' just to get this far...then you show up and like a damn golden child you ''steal'' not just my glory, but ''Lord Guto's'' too!? Lord Guto gave me everything I have, and you stole his position away from him, and shamed me at the same time. And you did it without even trying. No effort. You just walked into Las Noches like you owned the place... I’d have preferred it if Tirek had made us fight for the position and you’d killed me. At least then I wouldn’t feel so...so damn ''worthless''!
* TalkToTheFist: Ditzy doesn't appreciate talky opponents.
-->'''Ditzy''': Geeze, tell it to someone who has time to listen to that bullcrap! Monologuing twerp!
* TalkingIsAFreeAction: Averted hard. While the Heroes were stalling for time, Jörmungandr in turn used the opportunity to gather more Blanks, [[spoiler: so he can open the Portal to Niflheim.]]
* TankGoodness: Quincy have futuristic-looking Tanks created, fueled, and firing projectiles made out of reishi similar to Quincy arrows. They are useless in the Living World, but in the Spirit World, like Hueco Mundo, they work perfectly as additional firepower.
* ATasteOfPower: Sunset, Human Twilight, and the Humane Five [[spoiler:all get their magical geodes at the end of the Everfree Arc, using them to save Gaia/Gloriosa, and then Gaia uses them to stop the Equestria portal from exploding and killing everyone. Then Medley swoops in and uses her powers to snatch the geodes out from under them, deciding that if they keep them, they could legitimately threaten the Zero Division's plans. Sunset suspects that the pendants ''let'' Medley take them for some future plan.]]
* TechnicolorFire: Sunset can produce different-colored flames with different effects, which are tied to her emotions.
** Her "normal" fire is the usual orange-red.
** The flames of her Aoihi Senko are blue, representing her {{pride}} and is her main offensive-based attack.
** The flames of her Midorihi Hashira are green, representing her intellect and is her [[TrapMaster strategic move since they work like landmines that explode at her command]].
** The flames of her Shirohi Yume are white, representing her love for others and her desire to [[DoppelgangerAttack be in multiple places to protect them]].
** The flames of her Kurohi Moegara are black, representing her wrath and her desire to utterly destroy those who would stand against her and harm those precious to her. Noticeably, these black flames are just as capable of hurting ''her'' as her enemies if she's not careful.
* TeleFrag: Apparently a major risk with teleporting in unfamiliar scenarios.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork:
** Seaspray and Tempest do not get along. It's easy to see why as Tempest had led an attack on Seaspray's home. They constantly argue and shoot deathly gazes at each other, but they do manage to work together, slowly developing mutual respect after visiting Aqualania.
* TerseTalker:
** Smooze barely talks and when he does, his speech pattern is very simplistic. It's mostly because of the excruciating pain he constantly feels. After Fluttershy manages to ease the pain, he's extremely polite and eloquent.
** [[spoiler: Gaw]] after she turns into an Arrancar.
* ThatCameOutWrong:
** While Shining Armor is training Twilight, she complains that she's in pain. He says, "Your body will adapt, and it will get easier, but it always hurts the first time..." Twilight gets embarrassed and he realizes how dirty that sounded and says, "Yeesh, never thought I’d be saying stuff like that to my little sister."
** Done again when Sweetie Belle tried to [[ItMakesSenseInContext absorb a giant rock crocodile into her wand.]] Lampshaded by Scootaloo.
-->'''Silver Spoon''': Can't that wand do anything?\\
'''Sweetie Belle''': I'm trying! I don't think it'll work on something this big. It's too huge to take inside!\\
'''Scootaloo''': Phrasing, Sweetie Belle, ''phrasing''!
* ThatManIsDead: The Lament invokes this when [[spoiler:Adagio]] asks him his name, saying that he hasn't known his name in a long time. [[spoiler:That comes undone when he ends up fighting Sweet Cider (his wife) and Applejack (his daughter) and he acknowledges who he once was.]]
* TheSpartanWay: To join Guto's horde requires passing rigorous training and a series of gruesome tests. If they fail even one, they starve. The final part is a group fight to the death. This happens to [[ChildSoldiers children,]] btw.
* ThinkingUpPortals: The 9th Espada Squirk is a particular master of creating Gargenta portals amongst Hollows, such that it's the main reason he's kept his rank due to the fact he can quickly make multiple portals almost everywhere and is a massive tactical asset. [[spoiler:Which is why the Quincy target him for assassination (Chrysalis has Adagio kill him because he's plotting alongside Catrina to kill her to send a message, as well as on Starlight Glimmer's command to prevent him from possibly being used to bypass the booby trap on the Equestria portal)]].
** [[spoiler:Bowtie, and presumably the other Zero Division members, can apparently make portals to the Soul Queen's palace at will]].
* ThinkingUpPortals: Every Hollow has an innate ability to summon partal to Hueco Mundo, but special mentions go to Squirk. Unlike other Hollows, he can summon as many Gargantas as he desires whenever and wherever he wants, and while regular hollows can only move between Hollow and Living World, he can move from place to place within the realms. Even Wards especially designed to prevent Gargantas can't stop him. [[spoiler: After Adagio kills him, she gains this power. She can even attach them to people to summon them.]]
* ThirdLineSomeWaiting: [[spoiler: After the first arc the story shifts into three story arcs following Sunset and the Humane Five invading Soul Society to rescue Celestia and Luna, Twilight joining the Quincy to understand their culture to help end the war in Soul Society, and Adagio surviving Hueco Mundo, though as the main protagonist Sunset's storyline receives the most attention. Once Sunset's arc concludes, Twilight and Adagio's arcs take center stage and merge together for the Quincy/Hollow battle at Las Noches.]]
* ThisIsGonnaSuck: Flash's reaction before his duel with Princess Celestia. Not that he was underestimating her in the slightest before, just that moment the duel begins and [[SilkHidingSteel Celestia's focus completely shifts]] does he fully realize how screwed he is.
* TitleDrop: Happens in chapter 32. Discord refers to Sunset and her friends, due to combining the Magic of Friendship from Equestria with the spiritual power of the human world, as "friendship souls". Sunset herself [[SelfDeprecation thinks it's kind of tacky]].
* TokenEvilTeammate:
** Pinkamena. Fortunately, Pinkie is there to act as TheKidWithTheLeash.
** Human Starlight's group has Chrysalis. It's more than obvious she's just using them, they have very little control over her, and she will betray them without a second thought, and Starlight and [[spoiler:Firefly]] both agree they must keep an eye on her at all times.
** Hurricane is this to the Gotei 13.
* TokenGoodTeammate: The Lament seems to be the only Espada who's a genuinely good person [[spoiler:before Adagio joins their number]], likely because [[spoiler:he was Applejack's father in life.]] Of course, this isn't saying much, seeing how becoming a Hollow has clearly done a number on his sanity.
* TookALevelInKindness:
** Discord is implied to have almost been as bad as his Equestrian self as an unethical MadScientist, but his time as Xcution's handler and taking Starlight Glimmer as his apprentice (and his [[MyGreatestFailure utter failures with both of them]]) caused him to grow a conscience becoming the BigGood we see in the present day.
** Quincy King Sombra was apparently a great deal more wrathful and more like his pony self before mellowing out as the centuries passed. The narration implies this may have something to do with human Radiant Hope.
* TorsoWithAView: Besides the standard hole possessed by all Hollows, [[spoiler:Lemon Zest has the misfortune of experiencing this after a training accident with Twilight.]]
* TradingBarsForStripes: As it turns out, Quincy have their own penal company called Strafbattalion. Twilight directly compares it to companies used by Germans in World War Two, but Sombra notes that the idea is much older than that, and Quincy are much more lenient in handling it. When a Quincy commits a crime (be it cowardice in battle, theft, or dealing with drugs) they're given a choice; being stripped of their powers and send to a guarded colony, or join Straffbattalion stationed in Hueco Mundo. After four years of service, they can rejoin the Quincy Ranks.
** Wind Raider had been sentenced to Strafbattalion after draining the soul energy of both normal humans and Quincy alike to remain strong and young. He became a high-ranking member of the company and, ironically, grew prideful of them. [[GlorySeeker He's still bitter for being shunned into the shadows while others rose to glory.]]
** After [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirlsFriendshipGames the events of the movie,]] Cinch chose a servitude in Strafbattalion to eventually return to Quincy Military. Sombra wasn't surprised, saying that [[AmbitionIsEvil Cinch doesn't lack ambition]] and stubbornness to get back into his good graces.
* TragicMonster: [[spoiler:Adagio, after becoming a Hollow]]. This happened in the backstory [[spoiler:with Applejack's father as well, who suffered a similar fate. Still, he went on to get a new home and family in Las Noches as the Fourth Espada, so he seems to have made the best out of a bad situation. That being said it's implied he hates life as a Hollow, with his reiatsu oozing regret for his new life]].
* TrainingFromHell: Discord and [[spoiler:Ditzy Doo]] fully intend to put the girls through this, since doing so is the only way to ensure they'll be ready to face Captain-Level enemies in time. [[spoiler: Twilight and Adagio are also going to be put through this, though in Adagio's case it's more like "act as a guinea pig or die".]]
* TransformationIsAFreeAction: {{Averted}} more often than not. If someone transforms, it's usually because they managed to distract their opponent long enough to pull it off, it's too fast to stop in the first place, their enemy let them do it because they want a challenge or don't really care, or the sheer amount of reiatsu they release in the process is enough to stop their enemy from harming them until it's over. Otherwise, characters will go out their way to stop their opponents from powering up by any means necessary.
** Comes into play in chapter 187, when Di-Roy tried to transform only for Pharynx to stop him. He even complains about it only for Pharynx to shut him up.
-->'''Di-Roy''': H-hey! That’s cheating! You let Gaw do her thing, dammit!
-->'''Pharynx''': That was because I was still evading the young lady’s threads. Also, there’s no cheating in battle, you fool. Just whoever is standing at the end.
* TranslatorMicrobes:
** A saguhain named Ulgriv has a translation spell cast on him so the heroes can interrogate him. This leads to the others assuming that he's a traitor.
** Despite [[spoiler: Wallflower]] speaking perfect English, Hel doesn't know it. She instead casts a spell that translates her words to others. Asuna knows a similar spell, though not as precise. It comes in handy when interacting with Svartalfheim natives.
* TrueCompanions: Though the Humane Seven may argue from time to time, they’ll fight for their friends to the end!
[[/folder]]

[[folder:U-Y]]
* UltimateBlacksmith: Dwarves of course, with {{Orichalcum}} being their greatest and most sought creation. Even among Dwarves, the Allhammer family is known for their skills at manufacturing the metal.
* UnderestimatingBadassery:
** Sunset and her friends learn the hard way how outmatched they are against a Captain when Hurricane unleashes his Bankai.
** [[spoiler: Flash Sentry]] invokes this when he sees just how capable pony Rainbow Dash and Twilight Sparkle is. He does this again when he and Celestia have a friendly spar.
** Jet Set ''massively'' underestimates Torch after dealing with several of his Fraccion rather easily, only to get a rude awakening when Torch ''bites'' through his reishi tendrils. "Luckily" for him, Torch decides to switch targets to Shining Armor because he thinks he'll be a more worthy foe, only to get even more brutally stomped by the even stronger Lament.
** Gilda vastly underestimates Sunset when she attempts a brazen assassination attempt. While it's true Gilda is strong [[spoiler:having just been made the Tenth Espada, after all]], she was basing her attack on the intel the Arrancar had on Sunset's strength pre-Soul Society Arc, before both her TrainingFromHell in prep for the assault and her further training to obtain Bankai, much less her training afterwards. As such, she went in expecting a fight she could win easily only to once Sunset counters her surprise attack end up on the losing end of the resulting clash [[spoiler:that Adagio had to bail her out of.]]
** Squirk looks down on [[spoiler:Adagio]] when he first meets her, believing she's nothing but a common Adjuchas and Torch should stop combing the lower ranks for new subordinates. [[spoiler:Not only does Adagio end up becoming a Vasto Lorde, she's the one who kills him and his death is part of what allows her to become an Arrancar and new Espada.]]
** [[spoiler:Glory, the leader of the Zero Division, admits she did in fact underestimate Scorpan during their battle. Despite Scorpan being the Captain-Commander of Soul Society, Glory confesses she still saw him first as the youth she trained so long ago, hence why she was taken off-guard by the power of his Bankai and neglected unleashing her own true power at first while only using her considerable base power and the Soul Queen's Heart. After being all but ''punched into Soul Society's equivalent of outer space'' by Scorpan's best technique and getting multiple bones, limbs, and organs pulverized in the process, she finally concedes [[SoProudOfYou with some level of pride]] he deserves nothing less than her best and finally invokes her blade's true power. Even then, she didn't realize that Scorpan's blow actually damaged her Soul Sleep, and that combined with the stress of releasing her full power causes her to collapse on the steps of the Soul Palace when she leaves after her victory. Scorpan himself notes this is her FatalFlaw, and what he suspects even if and when he falls to her will be how Sunset and her allies will be victorious.]]
* UnderwaterCity: Aqualania, a seapony city devastated and forced to be abandoned after a terrible civil war between the two heirs to the throne. Now it's a GhostCity, with The Sahuagin occasionally roaming the ruins, and even they are scared of that place. [[spoiler:As it turns out those fears were not without a good reason.]]
* UnfortunateNames: Human Rainbow invokes this when Ditzy tells her and her friends she named her daughter Derpy. Ditzy tries to justify this, saying that it's a traditional name for her house and that she taught her how to defend herself against any bullies anyway.
* UnholyGround: Averted with [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast]] Mountains of Teeth. Besides the name and being the place of the Great Civil Wall between Seaponies, it's not an evil place. Besides lingering bones, weapons, and destroyed buildings, it's only dangerous because of predatory creatures and occasional Sahuagin patrols. It surprises Flash who has dealt with places like this on Earth. [[spoiler: The closer you get to [[CityOfTheDamned Aqalania]] however...]]
* TheUnintelligible: Gaw can't really talk normally, but everyone is able to understand her just fine. [[spoiler:Until she becomes an Arrancar]].
* UniqueProtagonistAsset: Magic is this for Sunset Shimmer, the Humane Five, Human Twilight Sparkle, and [[spoiler:Adagio Dazzle]]. Magic is effectively an AmplifierArtifact that awakens, enhances, and accelerates the growth of spiritual powers, allowing them to gain and hone their powers in weeks or months to match and surpass those who have spent decades to centuries honing theirs. Several villains in particular are intrigued and want to study and obtain magic for themselves to reap the benefits of such growth.
* UnskilledButStrong:
** Blueblood is counted amongst the Gotei 13 thanks to possessing a legitimately powerful Bankai and high spiritual potential, but it's noted that his lack of experience compared to the other Captains and his [[SmugSuper arrogance]] keeps him from training and bringing out his full potential, which is why he's considered the weakest of them. Sure enough, Rarity, despite being far weaker in terms of power, defeats him through [[AwesomeByAnalysis carefully observing his actions throughout the fight]] and [[CombatPragmatist using "unconventional" techniques to catch him off-guard]] before he can use his Bankai.
** [[spoiler:Sweet Cider]], being this world's Kenpachi, is this as well. She lacks Bankai or any real skill in Kido, but her raw physical power puts her in league with the likes of [[spoiler:Celestia]] and Hurricane in terms of destructive power and she's technically the physically strongest of all the Captains (barring Captain-Commander Scorpan). On the topic of [[spoiler:Sweet Cider]], her Shikai is this as well. It doesn't have any fancy powers. It just absorbs her Spirit Energy and lets it out ''hard''. [[spoiler:And she only gets stronger when she regains access to her Fullbring and unlocks her true Shikai]]. [[spoiler: She finally meets her match in [[StrongAndSkilled Bowtie.]]]]
** Captain Thunderhooves' Shikai is a massive club becomes stronger with each successive swing, but in return each swing becomes increasingly unwieldy. This allows him to snowball into a ridiculously powerful combatant who can take out numerous foes with even near-misses, but collateral damage is all but assured and it's not a safe ability to use with allies present.
** Both Lament's Resurreccion and [[spoiler:Luna's]] fully-released Bankai turn them into this. They gain incredible power alongside massive boosts in physical ability, but in return their minds drown in soul-rending regret and predatory rage respectively and they can't do much to "plan" outside of "kill the targets in front of me with extreme prejudice".
** Guto calls out [[spoiler:Adagio]] as this [[spoiler:when she makes her move after becoming an Arrancar to claim a place among the Espada and indirectly acknowledging ''very'' begrudgingly that her power in her sealed state is a close match and perhaps slightly superior to his own]], stating that she might have the power but she lacks the experience. [[spoiler:Adagio]] noticeably doesn't refute that assessment [[spoiler:which is why she chooses to be tested by Tirek himself for her placement, and she also notes she'll need both to step up her training and come up with some killer finishing moves for when the two of them inevitably clash after she's named the new Sixth Espada over him. In fact, she would have been comfortable with starting as the Seventh Espada as to avoid pissing Guto off over taking his rank, but Tirek refused to rank her any lower.]]
** [[spoiler:When Di Roy runs into Maud again, he notes that while her burgeoning Fullbring is fairly powerful, it's clear that she's still learning to properly use it]].
* UnwantedRescue: Adagio is trying to prevent this, knowing full well that Sunset and her friends will inevitably try to "rescue" her from Hueco Mundo, which could throw a wrench into her plans to eliminate Grogar and become an Espada.
* UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans: [[spoiler:The Zero Squadron wants to create a "perfect" world, and are willing to go to horrific lengths, up to sending innocents like Sunburst to Hell, to achieve it, though Medley at least thinks that that specific incident was a screw up on their part. It's even hinted at that ''they'' are the ones imprisoned the Soul Queen, who they consider their "mother", when she refused to go along with their plans.]]
* VictoriasSecretCompartment: [[spoiler:Sunset uses her cleavage as a temporary place to hold Discord’s Hogyoku until Rarity could craft something better.]]
* VillainForgotToLevelGrind:
** Played with, in that the Soul Reapers, Arrancar, and Quincy ''have'' been grinding anywhere from years and decades to ''centuries and millennia'' to get as strong as they are, but Sunset, the Humane Five, Human Twilight, and [[spoiler:Adagio]] are to put it bluntly ''freaks'' that have gained and honed their powers in just ''weeks'' to close the gap. In other words, the heroes are on an exponential curve thanks to their Equestrian magic acting as TheGift while the villains are on a linear one.
** [[spoiler:While the Zero Division members ''have'' gained a significant power boost due to the stolen pieces of the Soul Queen that they wield, they've been holed up in the Soul Queen's palace for centuries while everyone else has been training and pushing themselves in the spiritual war. As a result, Scorpan is able to do some serious damage to Glory in their fight, even if it kills him, due to how badly she underestimates him.]]
* VillainTakesAnInterest: Several villains due this to the Humane Seven due to the power their magic gives them.
** Grogar sends numerous minions to try and capture then for their magic. [[spoiler:Once Adagio becomes a Hollow, he switches focus to her instead.]]
** [[spoiler:Starlight Glimmer wants them to gain strength so they can defeat the Zero Division.]]
** [[spoiler:Medley of the Zero Division also takes a disturbing interest in them, even appearing before them near the end of the Everfree arc.]]
* VillainTeamUp:
** The Espada are this compared to canon. They're an alliance of the top ten Arrancar warlords with each Espada having their own armies and some of them have their own Espada-level fighters personally loyal to them.
** Subverted with pony and human Chrysalis. Human Chrysalis says she wants to meet her. ...So she can kill her and devour her soul.
* VillainousFriendship:
** Starlight Glimmer and Firefly have a Type I. They've been friends for years and have sworn to change the world no matter what together. [[spoiler:Begrudgingly, Platinum starts to view Firefly in a similar light.]]
** Tirek openly admits he respected Ravana for his independence and that [[WorthyOpponent he could give him a good fight.]] He even calls him a friend. Ravana on his part gave Tirek his own recipe for hard alcohol, so it's possibly mutual.
* VillainousVirtues: Despite being insane, the Lament has a few. There's honesty, love for his family, friendship, and faithfulness.
* WalkingSpoiler:
** Saying anything about Applejack's parents other than "they're dead" is a major spoiler.
** Considering what we find out about her, [[spoiler:Sunset Shimmer's human counterpart]] is this.
* WalkingWasteland:
** Two fighters of sufficient power will cause this when they clash, especially in the human world. During the battles at Camp Everfree, [[spoiler:Sixth Espada Adagio and 2nd Division Captain Luna pretty much destroy the local lake and wreck kilometers of forest during their clash, while 10th Division Captain Kenpachi Sweet Cider and 4th Espada Lament blow holes in mountains, cause miniature earthquakes, and start a localized thunderstorm/hurricane around their location ''before they go all out''.]]
** Captain [[spoiler:Celestia]] with her Shikai activated alone can release enough heat to not just melt the snow on a mountain, but the mountain itself. When in Bankai, Grogar notes that the release of energy could wipe out everything in a 20-mile radius [[spoiler:which is why he gambled on forcing her unruly zanpakuto to go Bankai to escape his dimensional trap to make her take his offer to send them both to the Precipice Realm to prevent her from accidentally killing everyone in Camp Everfree and Canterlot City, who are in the blast radius.]]
** [[spoiler:Captain Platinum's Bankai is powerful enough to cause a flash freeze in the middle of summer of the human world, which ended up accidentally killing Gloriosa and Timber's parents when she used it fighting the original [=XCution=] in the Everfree Forest when they were caught up in it.]]
** [[spoiler: Wallflower/Hel's]] [[LifeDrinker life drinking ability]] sucks the life out of the plants around her making them wilt and die. Her attacks have the same effect, even ''before'' reaching her target.
* WasItAllALie: This is pony Twilight's reaction when she finds out that [[spoiler:Flash Sentry has been a member of Soul Society the whole time.]] It was, at first, [[spoiler:but then he started to [[BecomingTheMask legitimately fall for her]]]].
* WaveMotionGun: Princess Celestia and Princess Luna have not one, but two of these: ''Instar Solis Lunaeque'' and ''Stellar Mallus'', High Magic Spells that harness the power of the Sun and Moon to wipe out entire armies.
* WeakButSkilled:
** The lower-ranked Espada The Smooze, Squirk, Grogar are counted less for their strength so much as their unique powers and skills. The Smooze in particular notes that even with his rank as the 10th Espada there are quite a few Fraccion who have more spiritual power than him but his [[PoisonousPerson powers]] and [[EldritchAbomination true form]] give him an edge, and Tirek concedes that Squirk [[spoiler:after he's killed during the battle between Hollows and Quincy in Hueco Mundo]] would have held the title of 10th Espada if Smooze didn't insist on holding it when Chrysalis notes that Guto's protégé Gilda is likely stronger than Squirk, but notes his tactical advantages in his Garganta creation make him invaluable even if he was demoted off the Espada.
** With few exceptions, the Quincy are on the lower end of the power scale between the three factions, with even the Sternritter struggling against the power of Soul Reaper Captains or the Espada. They make up for it with their training and the unique abilities of their Schifts.
** The Kraken that attacked the beach was not very powerful compared to the Equestrian Luna and Celestia magically speaking, but it had a ''lot'' of versatility, which combined with its size and strength made it a tough opponent.
** Grogar's experiments are not that weak, but their real strength comes from the nasty little tricks he equips them with. Abilities like [[DetachmentCombat splitting themselves to pieces]], potent poison, or [[HomingProjectile targeting balas]] that can use FlashStep. [[spoiler: They can also use those abilities on their allies strengthening them.]]
* WeaponWieldsYou:
** Initially, when Lieutenant Posey activated her Shikai, Kyoki, it would take control of her and cause her to go berserk. This is because Kyoki hates how weak-willed and passive she is and believes he can do a better job, but Fluttershy forces him to see that he's being a bully making her do things instead of actually helping her.
** Happens to [[spoiler: Sweet Cider]] during her fight with Lament, as the emotional stress finally causes her Fullbring to overpower her and her Zanpakto, turning both of them into a wild berserker.
* WeirdnessCensor: Sugarcoat lampshades that it seems like Canterlot City has a collective blind spot for the strange and unusual, given that no one's seemed to notice all the magic stuff going on at Canterlot High.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Human Starlight Glimmer and her group (with the obvious exception of Chrysalis) are doing ''very'' morally dubious things that leave innocent people crippled and even killed in their wake, but their goal is to [[spoiler:stop the Zero Division from pulling off an EvilPlan involving the fallen Soul Queen. Discord and Ditzy, despite being burned so badly by Starlight's actions, actually empathize with her once they realize just what said plan entails.]]
* WhamEpisode:
** [[spoiler:Adagio Dazzle becomes a Hollow.]]
** [[spoiler:Sunset's human counterpart is not only still alive, but has ended up in Hueco Mundo and somehow has a Fullbring!]]
** [[spoiler:Discord sends a letter to Scorpan declaring the formation of the "Canterlot Spirit Coalition"]].
** [[spoiler:Fenice and Sunburst are the children of a Star family member and an Arrancar, and their medallions contain Phantom Blades, which is connected to Tyr in Fenice's case.]]
** [[spoiler:Wallflower Blush is actually an amnesiac ''Hel'', and dog Spike is apparently connected to Fenrir.]]
* WhamLine:
** [[spoiler:“You’re a freakn’ ''Vasto Lorde''!”]]
** [[spoiler:“...You’re human. A living human.”]]
** [[spoiler:“Found at last, brother Fafnir! The time has come, and Ragnarok draws near! And I, [[Myth/NorseMythology Nidhogg]], have come to take you home!” ]]
* WhiteShirtOfDeath: Besides greatly increasing Rarity's [[ThePowerOfBlood control over her blood]] [[SpontaneousWeaponCreation creations,]] her Fullbring turns her whole form snow-white, making it easy to spot even the tiniest drop of blood. WordOfGod it's to symbolize her willingness to kill her opponents, and [[IDidWhatIHadToDo acceptance of the consequences.]]
* WideEyedIdealist: Sombra and Twilight Sparkle discuss this trope in regards to Twilight Velvet. He says that she was this when she was a part of Xcution and, like Twilight, wanted peace between the Quincy and Soul Society. However, he also says that she became jaded due to Soul Society's actions, turning in to the woman she is today. He thinks that the same thing will happen to her. Twilight, naturally, doesn't believe him.
* WildCard:
** [[spoiler:Firefly, Rainbow Dash's mother. Originally TheMole for Discord to spy on Starlight Glimmer, before becoming one of her CoDragons, and yet isn't above helping Rainbow Dash and her friends. Even Firefly admits she's not quite sure whose side she's on.]]
** Chrysalis. As Ocellus puts it:
-->'''Ocellus''': Mother is only ever on one side; hers. All other sides vary in importance depending on her mood and appetite. Even us.
* WhipSword: Wielded by the Tenth Espada, The Smooze, and resembling [[BadWithTheBone a sharpened human spine and rib-cage as the hilt.]]
* WindsOfDestinyChange: Troubleshoe's Zanpaktou ''Kusatta-Un'' can redirect [[BornUnlucky his own bad luck]] to his foes in a fight when the Shikai is released.
* WistfulAmnesia: Despite not remembering Applejack when they see each other, [[spoiler:Sweet Cider]] not only feels a connection to her because of their similar looks, but her zanpakuto reacts as well, wanting her to fight her. [[spoiler:Sweet Cider]] even notes that her zanpakuto ''never'' reacted like this towards anyone else before, feeling almost ''happy''.
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: The Lament may not be the most stable individual, but he goes completely over the edge when he releases his Resurreccion, ''Lamentar (Regret)''. He loses himself so much that he has a special bunker under his tower to protect his children from himself.
* WorldOfActionGirls: It's a crossover between ''My Little Pony'' and a shonen battle manga; there is an ''endless tide'' of powerful female warriors.
He believes if he succeeds it will be reborn free of her influence.]]
* WorthIt: [[spoiler: When Zecora asks Platinum if she felt like betraying Soul Society to save her son by turning him into a Hollow-hybrid was worth the cost she answers with a BluntYes with absolutely zero regret.]]
* WorthyOpponent:
** Blueblood sees Rarity as one after their battle, going from insulting and looking down on her to offering to take her out for dinner sometime. Rarity is surprised and exasperated at this sudden turnaround, but admits "maybe"...if he works on his [[SmugSuper attitude]] a lot.
** Torch acknowledges Shining Armor as one, admitting that unlike Jet Set he's not a boy but a man and fellow warrior. So he'll honor Shining's SuperMode [[OneWingedAngel with his own]].
** Starswirl sees Twilight as one after their own fight, especially since she never ceased to impress him with her ingenuity and cleverness with her powers. [[spoiler:To the point he has no issue whatsoever with forming an alliance with her or helping protect her against Sapphire Shores' assassination along Twilight's other Quincy allies.]]
** Hoity Toity acknowledges Rarity as one, apologizing for looking down on her in the beginning, [[spoiler:and expressing satisfaction when she fatally injures him.]]
** Jörmungandr sees Sunset as one after their brief skirmish in the Midgard. He advises his Einherjars to leave her to him since [[TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou he's the best suited to deal with her.]]
** Ofridr has a deep respect for the Nereids as skilled singers and for giving him [[BloodKnight the fight of his life.]] Like the youngest Nereid sister, he wouldn't mind if they killed him instead the opposite.
* WouldHurtAChild: Despite loving his own daughter, Torch has no compunctions about ordering the deaths of children, as he views that as just a natural part of life and war. Indeed, he'll willing send his own daughter into a life-or-death situation because he trusts her to be strong enough to fight and survive, and chides Night Light and Shining Armor for seemingly not having any faith in Twilight's own ability to do so.
* WouldntHurtAChild: Medley had the opportunity to kill[[spoiler: young Fenice]] but instead opted to send her to Hueco Mundo. Then again, sending a person that knows nothing about fighting to a Realm full of extremly aggresive, hungry Beasts can barely be called mercy. Though she justifies it saying that as a Half-hollow she could thrive there. [[spoiler: She was right.]]
* WoundThatWillNotHeal: [[spoiler:Firefly is injured by Luna's magic in Equestria, and none of the spiritual healing techniques that Starlight has tried are working. Her best guess is that she needs magic to cure her.]]
* WrongContextMagic: Equestrian magic and Soul Reaper and Quincy skills like Kido are noted to be different. When Clover teaches Sunset to control her Reiatsu, Sunset learns that her methods for controlling her Unicorn magic don't work, and she needs a different kind of thinking. It actually distorts spiritual powers when used against it, efficiently giving every magic user an edge against spiritual foes.
** Anima from the Beast Realm seems to be a mix of both Equestrian magic and spiritual energy in a unique way.
* XanatosGambit: [[spoiler:As far as Starlight Glimmer is concerned, pushing Sunset and the heroes to get stronger is just as crucial a part of her plan as getting every resource she can grab for her war with the Zero Division. If she wins, all well and good. If Sunset and her friends defeat her, well at least by that point they'll have proven themselves strong enough to stop the Zero Division themselves as a fallback plan (and she knows that once they learn the truth of Zero Division's plans, they ''will'' be in conflict against them regardless of their justified grudge against her).]]
* {{Yandere}}: [[spoiler:Sapphire Shores to Sombra, though [[MaskOfSanity she kept it on the down-low most of the time]]. She'd still happily murder those she thought were a threat to him behind his back, and she admitted she loved and hated Radiant Hope, the former because she made Sombra happy, the latter because it was her and not Sapphire who could make him happy. The crazy only ''really'' comes out during her VillainousBreakdown fighting Twilight, Starswirl, and allied Sternritter.]]
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness:
** Plenty of Grogar's "experiments" have ended up this way. Often, they end up as fodder for "better" experiments to grow stronger.
** [[spoiler:Poor Squirk ended up this way due to Chrysalis, both because he made the mistake of backing the wrong Espada in the one-sided feud between Catrina and Chrysalis, and because his death by Adagio's hand would make her strong enough to more than make up for any tactical advantage he brought to the table.]]
* YouKillItYouBoughtIt: [[spoiler:The crimson moon of Luna's Bankai holds power and lunacy from ''every'' Hollow she's ever cut down with her blade. Unfortunately, she can't control that power yet, so if it's damaged, she goes into a berserker rage.]]
* YouKilledMyFather:
** Grand Fisher killed [[spoiler:Applejack's parents.]] After he is defeated, [[spoiler:Applejack's anger transfers to Soul Society because they allowed Grand Fisher to attack her family.]]
** [[spoiler: It's ''heavily'' implied THAT Torch is the one that killed Posey's mother and Hurricane's wife.]]
* YouNeedToGetLaid: Midnight Sparkle says as much to human Twilight, much to her annoyance and embarrassment.
* YourSoulIsMine: Hollows are capable of this, of course. [[spoiler:And Sombra, just like Yhwach, can do this to those who he grants a Schrift to. Tirek mockingly calls him a {{Hypocrite}} on this, seeing as he's no less a soul-devouring monster than the Hollows he hates and leads the Quincy against]].
** [[spoiler:More generally, ''any'' dead Quincy's soul ends up inside him before being reborn, essentially skipping the Soul Society step of the {{Reincarnation}} cycle before being reborn, usually in a family member.]]
** [[spoiler:Apparently Adagio made a DealWithTheDevil with Charybidis that resulted in Adagio giving up a part of her soul to learn how to feed off negative emotions with her siren gem. Discord suggests that Aria and Sonata go after this piece to help their sister]].
* YouWillBeSpared: [[spoiler:The Zero Division wishes to revive their deceased family, but since [[PiecesOfGod their fractured souls became the ones mortals have]], this involves using Hell to basically [[AssimilationPlot grind them up into soup and eventually fish out the pieces of their loved ones]]. There's enough wiggle room for a few thousand souls to be "preserved" though, with each of the Zero Division having those souls they view worthy by their standards in the Soul Palace. In fact, the only reason that they didn't wipe out all mortal souls immediately is that Glory decided to use the cycle of reincarnation to allow said souls multiple lives and chances at reaching this fate before being sentenced to Hell. When it becomes clear that the secret of Hell's true nature is out, Glory goes to the meeting and spills the beans herself and offers everyone there this chance, but no one takes her up on it.]]
