* SignatureStyle: A very distinctive one characterised by a somewhat offbeat narrative that usually vacillates between wry and snarky, which takes very strongly from ''Literature/TheDresdenFiles'' and Terry Pratchett's ''Franchise/{{Discworld}}'' series - though it's not hard to see influences from ''Literature/TheHitchhikersGuideToTheGalaxy'', ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'', and ''WebComic/TheOrderOfTheStick''. Thematically, he favours complex plots, often with Arthurian themes, which are heavy on continuity and CharacterDevelopment, dialogue that consists of either monologues or one-liners snapped back and forth, [[YouCantFightFate fate]] [[CosmicPlaything kicking]] [[HurtingHero main]] [[TheChewToy characters very hard in the balls]] and seriously epic battles. Also fond of EarnYourHappyEnding.

By his own account, he took to fanfiction in his early teens after following his sister's example, and has hinted that she's a well-regarded writer in at least one of his fandoms, though he isn't exactly minded to say which. He thereafter used it as a release valve for the copious amounts of SuppressedRage that come with being a teenage boy, most particularly one attending a boarding school when you ''really'' don't want to. After dabbling with short form pieces and incomplete longer form ones around the ''Discworld'' and ''Temeraire'' fandoms, he began ''Fanfic/TheWizardInTheShadows'' at the age of 14 and thus began a long career of writing DoorStopper sized crossovers, usually complete with a LemonyNarrator. The former is associated with a confirmed CreatorBreakdown, while the tail end and his more recent series, ''Fanfic/ChildOfTheStorm'', is associated with a CreatorRecovery - one confirmed/necessitated by the fact that as of May 2021, he's stated that he's getting therapy.

* RationalFic: Has shown a surprising proclivity for this, despite the fact that he might well be barking mad. ''Fanfic/ChildOfTheStorm'' is written at least partially in this style (it helps that the magic is drawn heavily from ''Literature/TheDresdenFiles''), with the author noting that his main interest was in exploring the consequences of mixing worlds, with the reactions to the premise (Thor was James Potter, as part of a first run at the whole humility thing), and the reactions to those reactions, driving the plot. Additionally, it ticks most of the rest of the boxes for a fic along these lines:
** {{Foreshadowing}} (and to a lesser extent, FridgeBrilliance) abounds.
** The most successful characters deploy out-of-the-box thinking, and the most successful character of all, resident MagnificentBastard Doctor Strange, practically redefines CrazyPrepared and takes a very coldly rational approach to matters (despite, or even because of, being at least slightly mad).
** However, we say 'partially', because the author also repeatedly emphasising that he writes characters as people, and they are therefore as prone to doing stupid, irrational things, because that's what people do - though they always have some personal reason for such actions, meaning that generally ItMakesSenseInContext.

** The same thing is happening in ''Fanfic/ChildOfTheStorm'', the first book of which was started when he was 17 (and, as he admits, when he was a much angrier person than he is now) and finished at the age of 21.

* DoorStopper: On completion, ''Fanfic/ChildOfTheStorm'' was longer than ''Literature/WarAndPeace'', ''Literature/AtlasShrugged'' and ''the entire'' ''Literature/TheLordOfTheRings'' ''trilogy''. The sequel is at 990,000 words and ''counting''. The side-stories are at over 150,000 words put together. ''And he has plans for up to '''fifteen''' more fics in the series.''

* AsTheGoodBookSays: While he doesn't identify as religious, remarking that he's a vaguely Anglican agnostic in the fine tradition of the Church of England, he does enjoy quoting from ''Literature/TheBible'' at appropriate moments, on the grounds that it's an excellent work of literature - especially the King James edition. Apparently, his favourite passage is 1 Corinthians 13, specifically verse 13: "And now these three shall remain; faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love."

** While usually willing to accept criticism and making reference to a number of betas/editors, as well as authors he considers his equals or betters (he gushes about copperbadge, for instance) there is an exception. Clell, author of ''Fanfic/HarryPotterAndTheInvincibleTechnomage'', who he was told to seek advice from, that story being the recommended model. Since the stated motivation of writing ''Child of the Storm'' in the first place was as a direct rebuttal to ''Technomage'', [[RantInducingSlight this went down... poorly.]]

** While usually willing to accept criticism and making reference to a number of betas/editors, as well as authors he considers his equals or betters (he gushes about copperbadge, for instance) there is an exception. * {{Deconstruction}}: Quite fond of this in a quiet sort of fashion, exploring the logical implications of tropes such as, say, YoungerThanSheLooks. However, he also likes a good {{Reconstruction}}, too, with ''Child of the Storm'' beautifully (and by all accounts, accidentally) reconstructing the classic RomanceArc with [[spoiler: Harry and Carol]].
* DoorStopper: On completion, ''Fanfic/ChildOfTheStorm'' was longer than ''Literature/WarAndPeace'', ''Literature/AtlasShrugged'' and ''the entire'' ''Literature/TheLordOfTheRings'' ''trilogy''. ** Has occasionally observed that for all his carefully laid plans, his characters have a tendency to go off and do "whatever the f**k they want to". This has apparently resulted in vast plot changes, with apparently up to ''400,000 words'' of miscellaneous future scenes and notes being chucked from ''Fanfic/ChildOfTheStorm'' as the plot evolved.
