[=MicroProse=] is an American video game publisher and developer, founded by Wild Bill Stealey and Creator/SidMeier in 1982. A pioneer in many ''serious'' computer videogame genres, it specialized in SimulationGames, particularly the Combat Flight Simulator variety. A niched and yet powerhouse company in the early 90s, it was acquired by Hasbro in 1998 after a streak of financial troubles which started with a failed venture into 3D UsefulNotes/{{Arcade Game}}s. Creator/{{Atari}} (i.e.[[Creator/InfogramesEntertainmentSA Infogrames]]) shut down the last former [=MicroProse=] development studio in 2003, and sold off the remaining rights in 2007 to Interactive Game Group, of which it remains a subsidiary or brand name mostly dedicated to casual and console games. Creator/FiraxisGames retains the rights for many of its older titles.
