* CareerEndingInjury: In 1991 while shooting Film/DocHollywood, Creator/MichaelJFox started showing symptoms of early-onset Parkinson's disease when he was just 29 years old and would be properly diagnosed with the illness soon after. By 1998, the year he went public with his diagnosis, the disease had left him debilitated and stalled his career, forcing him to leave his starring role on Series/SpinCity, with most of his roles since being either in voice acting (most notably the voices of Film/StuartLittle and Milo Thatch in WesternAnimation/AtlantisTheLostEmpire) or characters with Written-In Infirmities. He retired from acting in 2020 due to his Parkinson's exacerbating to the point of memory loss and difficulty with reliable speech.

* StageNames: There was already a Michael Fox in the Screen Actors Guild when Michael J. Fox was just starting out, so he used the middle initial "J" in homage to actor Creator/MichaelJPollard. He chose not to use an "A", for his actual middle name "Andrew", to avoid headlines like "Michael, A Fox!" or "Michael 'Eh?' Fox". Now he's taken over as videos of the other Michael Fox are impossible to find. He's stated in interviews that the J stands for "Jenius".

Renamed to Short Teens Tall Adults per TRS. Removing any misuse.

* TeensAreShort: He's around 5'4", which allowed him to play teenage characters into his late twenties. Brandon Tartikoff, president of Creator/NBC Entertainment, the network that aired Series/FamilyTies, actually thought he was too short to be the son of 6'4" Michael Gross.

He made his return to TV with the sitcom Series/TheMichaelJFoxShow, which ran from October 2013 to January 2014. In 2020 he publicly stated he was no longer actively seeking acting roles due to his Parkinson's making it hard to memorize lines but would still consider a taking an offered part if it was a great one and worked for him.

* NotEvenBotheringWithTheAccent: He never made any attempt at not using his native Canadian accent in Hollywood, which has both naturally softened with living in the US for so long and is more-or-less close enough to an American one to serve the purpose — however, anytime Alex or Marty says Shibboleth "sorry" or "tomorrow" pretty much gives the game away.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: At the height of his stardom, he was considered to play Andrew Clark Film/TheBreakfastClub, Maverick in Film/TopGun and the title character in Film/FerrisBuellersDayOff before they went to Creator/EmilioEstevez, Creator/TomCruise and Creator/MatthewBroderick respectively.
* WrittenInInfirmity: He's taken many roles, some major, since his "retirement". If you want to cast him, all you have to do is say the character, too, has Parkinson's (though as mentioned before, other ailments, some which do not present as Fox's Parkinson's does, have been used). Notably, he's not always the man whose disease is the main feature of the character; one line mentioning his illness lets you know why that one lawyer guy walks like that, and on we go with the plot.
