Derek Francis, (7 November 1923 -- 27 March 1984), was a British character actor.

Some of his most notable work were his appearances in the ''Film/CarryOn'' films, first appearing in 1967's ''Film/CarryOnDoctor'', and making his final appearance in 1972's ''Film/CarryOnAbroad''. Other film roles include ''Film/TheTombOfLigeia'' and ''Film/AChristmasCarol1984''.

Francis was a familiar face on British TV from the start of TheSixties to the end of TheSeventies. Some of his biggest roles were Emperor Nero in ''Series/DoctorWho'' and Father Bernard in ''Oh, Brother!''.

He died of a heart attack at the age of 60.
