* AmbiguousSituation: The status of Megatron himself seems to be one. His body is conspicuously not on the ''Ark'' when Jetfire finds it and Starscream is stated to be the leader of the Decepticons. Megatron is still clearly present in the setting, given that he is referenced by Starscream and Soundwave at the end of issue #1. Issue #2 blurs the lines even more by revealing he ''was'' on the Ark when it crashed. [[spoiler:Issue #4 finally reveals that he's in stasis somewhere in the Arctic, having apparently fallen out of the Ark somehow during it's crash, and the G.I. Joe Comics reveal that COBRA has recovered his body.]]

** Astrotrain's first appearance involves him lunging vengefully at the other Decepticons while demanding to know Megatron's location. As ''Cyberverse'' can attest, this is far from the first time the character has shown disdain for Megatron.

** Thundercracker ''tries'' to do this by letting the crew of a hijacked battleship go free since he sees no need to kill them, but it's immediately ruined when Soundwave points out that they'll just alert the government to what the Decepticons are doing while they're still vulnerable, meaning he has no choice but to shoot down the lifeboats as they flee for the sake of the mission.

While he has yet to encounter Megatron, he's very willing to turn said Fusion Cannon on the other Decepticons like Starscream and Devastator]].

* AccidentalMisnaming: Spike keeps referring to Laserbeak as Laser''beam'', prompting Cliffjumper to testily correct him.

* BetterToDieThanBeKilled: As they try to escape a Decepticon POW camp, Elita-One reluctantly promises a crippled and despairing Ultra Magnus that if they get caught, she'll kill them both so Magnus won't have to go back to the prison and she won't suffer as he has. Considering [[BodyHorror the shape his imprisonment has left Magnus in]], there's good reason for this.

* MercyKill: Ultra Magnus is so broken from centuries spent in a Decepticon prison that he begs for Elita to just kill him. She refuses, but reluctantly adds that if they're caught as they escape, ''then'' she'll kill them both.

* PetTheDog:
** [[spoiler:Megatron spares the life of an innocent Cobra-La scientist, both out of gratitude for the man returning his left arm and simply because there's no practical reason to hurt him.]]

* PragmaticVillainy: Soundwave repeatedly calls out Starscream and Skywarp for wasting precious time and resources tormenting humans, noting that it does nothing but distract from their more immediate goals and worsen their already bad situation by giving them yet more enemies.

* PragmaticVillainy: Soundwave repeatedly calls out Starscream and Skywarp for wasting precious time and resources tormenting humans, noting that it does nothing but distract from their more immediate goals and worsen their already bad situation by giving them yet more enemies. Notably, the first time he ''does'' hurt any humans in issue eight, it's done out of pragmatic necessity (preventing the crew of a carrier the Decepticons have hijacked from alerting the military during a vital operation) and he clearly takes no pleasure in it, a dramatic contrast to Starscream's sadistic excesses.

Added DiffLines:

* SanitySlippage: Astrotrain was locked up in the Nemesis when it and the Ark crashed on Earth, and has been stuck there ever since. When the other Decepticons finally free him in issue 8, he is predictably ''quite'' unhinged from centuries in isolation and has to be talked out of beating everyone present to death.

Added DiffLines:

* WarIsHell: A ''very'' big theme of the comic. War is consistently portrayed as nightmarish and tortuous, something that traumatizes Autobot, Decepticon, and human alike.

* WhatIf: A meta example; issue 7 shows us exactly what would've happened in ''Prime'' if Starscream ''didn't'' have enough sense to ''avoid'' incurring Soundwave's ire. It doesn't end well for him.

* AmbiguousTimePeriod: While the series is seemingly set in The80s with vague references to UsefulNotes/TheVietnamWar and the Challenger Disaster, Sparkplug makes mention of the internet in issue three. WordOfGod from Daniel Warren Johnson has clarified that he isn't going for any one time period in particular, preferring to keep the book timeless. For what its worth, sister titles ''Duke'' and ''Cobra Commander'' are firmly set in the present, with smartphones and military drones.
