Ewing's run concluded in the Summer of 2021 with ''ComicBook/TheLastAnnihilation'', a BatFamilyCrossover with his concurrent run on ''ComicBook/SWORD2020''. Ewing's ''Guardians''' is followed by [[ComicBook/GuardiansOfTheGalaxy2023 Colin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing's]], which will launch in April 2023.

Issue 13 sees the team being deputized by the Galactic Council in the wake of [[ComicBook/{{Empyre}} major cosmic]] [[ComicBook/KingInBlack upheavals]] with [[HeroesUnlimited a significant expansion in the roster]], including [[ComicBook/YoungAvengers Wiccan, Hulkling]] and ''ComicBook/DoctorDoom'', among others. Juan Frigeri also takes Cabal's position as the regular artist. The book also began a crossover called ''ComicBook/TheLastAnnihilation''.

* AlienLunch: Inverted, with the non-humans of the Guardians finding Quill's serving of turkey weird and disgusting.

* WarForFunAndProfit: The one really causing the murders at the diplomatic conference is [[spoiler:the Profiteer, hoping to kick-start a massive war she can use to make money.]]

* ConflictBall: In issue 15, Peter brings Rich along to his meeting with ComicBook/SWORD2020. While there, Rich takes exception to Magneto being there over something he did in his "bwa-ha-ha" days (over ''forty years ago'' our time). Magneto takes exception to that, and they start fighting, only stopping when Brand threatens to have the pair of them zapped by station security. Afterwards, both sides admit they handled the situation poorly, Rich admitting his reaction was a response to various people getting away with awful things.

* ConflictBall: In issue 15, Peter brings Rich along to his meeting with ComicBook/{{SWORD}}. The heroic Moondragon is victorious, but upon seeing just how lonely and unhappy her counterpart is decides to merge with her. Unfortunately, this also causes the other Phyla to be hostile and resentful towards the 616 Moondragon.
