Maximoff and Xavier are Erik's biological son and brother figure, respectively, yet ironically, Quicksilver is more comfortable staying with the Professor (who will become his mentor and ParentalSubstitute) than revealing to Lehnsherr that they're related. Xavier also shows an almost fatherly concern for Peter's safety during the battle against Apocalypse because Charles anxiously utters the young mutant's name when he's able to sense through his telepathy that Maximoff [[spoiler:has been seriously injured]]. They are the only two mutants who manage to land a few direct punches on Apocalypse--Quicksilver does this in the physical world, and Xavier does this on the astral plane, [[spoiler:although Apocalypse gets the upper-hand on both of them]].

* AcePilot: Is shown to be a very skilled pilot in the First Class trilogy.
* AdaptationalAttractiveness: In the comics, his original (human) form included oversized hands and feet. In ''Film/XMenFirstClass'', while his feet are different than normal, they are still the right size and he has no problem passing for an ordinary human.
* {{Adorkable}}: In ''Film/XMenFirstClass''. Soft spoken, stutters, asks Raven out on the pretext of getting a blood sample and then ''apologizes for being forward''.

* BattleButler: He essentially fulfills this role for Charles. In addition to looking after his ex-mentor's needs and maintaining the mansion, [=McCoy=] also serves as Xavier's bodyguard.
* BeastMan: Duh.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Pressing his BerserkButton might lead to him strangling you. Jekyll and Hyde indeed.
* BirdsOfAFeather: In ''Film/XMenFirstClass'', the bond is especially intense between [[IJustWantToBeNormal himself and Raven]] because they possess visible mutations, but they drift apart after the latter begins to accept her real appearance.
* BlessedWithSuck: This is his attitude towards his physical mutation throughout his youth. He goes through great lengths in order to mask what he perceives to be his body's grotesque deformities.
* BodyHorror: His transformation sequence in ''Film/XMenFirstClass'' depicted the process as rather painful and horrific, bones, muscles and skin shifting and stretching while fur aggressively sprouted along his body.
* BrainyBrunet: He's a doctoral-level scientist who graduated from Havard University at the age of 15.
* TheCameo: His older, Creator/KelseyGrammer form appears [[spoiler:at the end of ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'', having his between movies death reversed]].
* TheChampion: He puts his entire life on hold for a decade in order to assist and defend the emotionally dysfunctional Charles. Since [=McCoy=] is no longer Professor X's student, they both should be on equal footing, yet Beast continues to readily defer to Xavier's authority. This steadfast devotion demonstrates that Hank values Charles' well-being and safety above his own.
* CrazyPrepared: Unlike Charles in ''Film/XMenApocalypse'', Hank doesn't believe that human-mutant relations will always be smooth, and he has spent the past decade building a new model of the Blackbird (and presumably equipment, combat uniforms, etc.) so that the X-Men will be ready should things suddenly go south. As Creator/NicholasHoult [[http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/meet-the-x-men-apocalypse-cast-storm-magneto-cyclops-psylocke-more-943 puts it:]]
-->"Hank, since the last movie, still believes that the world kind of needs the X-Men, and that even though there's peace between humans and mutants at this point, he senses trouble and has kind of been building this jet war plan and kind of preparing for the worst."
* CulturedBadass: Tries to quote Churchill while fighting, and quotes Shakespeare prior to taking off to San Francisco in a deleted scene.

* DistressedDude: In ''Film/XMenApocalypse'', he is imprisoned by [[spoiler:Stryker]].

When he later uses a variation to [[spoiler:rob Erik/Magneto of his powers]] in ''Film/XMenTheLastStand'', it seems to work. [[spoiler:And then, rather subtly, it also fails]].
* ExtremeDoormat: In between 1963 and 1973, he has willingly reduced himself to this so that he can keep a constant eye on the self-destructive Charles. Xavier is the sole person [=McCoy=] has left who fully accepts him for who he is, so Beast does everything he can to ensure that nothing bad happens to his OnlyFriend.
* GeniusBruiser:
** In ''Film/XMenFirstClass'', he goes from being a BadassBookworm at the beginning to being a Genius Bruiser toward the end. [[spoiler:This is because he injected himself with something that utterly transformed his appearance.]]
** By ''Film/XMenTheLastStand'', he's a scientist/diplomat who can kick lots of ass.
* GentleGiant: Huge and animal-like, but on the good guys' side.
* GentlemanAndAScholar: He's very friendly, prefers to avoid conflict, and truly comes out of his shell when in his comfort zones, such as discussing science or assisting with the other students.
* GoodFlawsBadFlaws: As a young man, he gets lack of self-confidence as one of his primary faults. He is one of Xavier's closest friends, so his personality can't be changed too drastically.
* HeterosexualLifePartners:
** ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'': He and Charles are each other's OnlyFriend for a decade, so it's inevitable that they would develop a very close bond. There are moments of non-verbal (and non-telepathic) communication between the two men, like when Xavier gently taps Beast on the chest after he mutters to Logan, "I think I'd like to wake up now." [=McCoy=] immediately understands that the gesture means, "You can calm down now, our visitor is not a threat," and he reverts back to his human form.
** ''Film/XMenApocalypse'': He and Charles retain their close friendship from ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'', and it's a lot healthier now because [=McCoy=] is no longer Xavier's enabler, and they've ceased to be co-dependent. They also behave more like peers, as Hank is a teacher, and he has grown out of being needy of his former mentor's approval.
* HideYourOtherness:
** ''Film/XMenFirstClass'': Fearful of humanity's negative reaction to mutants, he firmly lives by this philosophy.
** ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'': He is very uncomfortable with his blue, furry form, and he creates a serum which temporarily suppresses his mutation so that he can appear human.
* HollywoodNerd:
** ''Film/XMenFirstClass'': He is like an introverted version of Charles; all the brilliance, all the attractiveness, but none of the latter's telepathic gift with people.
** ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'': In his human form, he is quite the PrettyBoy after he loses his NerdGlasses near the end of the movie. This is further accentuated in ''The Rogue Cut'' when Raven removes Hank's eyewear in order to see his face more clearly, and she kisses him shortly afterwards.
* HotScientist: Raven initially harbours a crush on her foster brother, but her affections are quickly transferred to Hank, an engineer and biologist.
* HulkingOut: In ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'', 70's Beast uses a serum that allows him to maintain a balance between his human and mutant appearances. When he's angry enough, his mutation kicks in, and he returns to human form once he's calmed down.
* IWasQuiteALooker: He used to be {{Adorkable}} before his Beast transformation.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: In ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'', he is this to the emotionally fragile Charles; the latter is so desperate to escape from his mental pain that he would most likely have died from alcohol poisoning if [=McCoy=] wasn't around to supervise him.
* KarmicTransformation: In ''Film/XMenFirstClass'', his transformation into Beast is tragic, but he brought it on himself. He makes it a little more karmic by being insensitive to Raven just before using it. She tells him he's perfect just the way he is and doesn't need the "cure," and he responds with:
-->'''Hank''': It behooves me to tell you that even if we save the world tomorrow, and mutants are accepted into society, my feet and your natural blue form will never be deemed beautiful.
--> ''(Raven shifts back to her human-looking morph.)''
-->'''Hank''': You look beautiful ''now.''
** Bonus points for his mutation being relatively minor, before it becomes much more pronounced after taking the serum.
* NerdGlasses: He wears the horn-rimmed variety in the First Class trilogy, which in his case is a visual cue that he's a geeky academic.
* OldFlame: In ''The Rogue Cut'', he and Mystique ''definitely'' still have feelings for each other despite being separated for over a decade.
* OncePerEpisode: In every movie where he is a prominent character, we see him hanging upside down.
* OnlyFriend: In ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'', after Charles isolates himself from the outside world due to his severe depression, Hank becomes his sole companion.
* ParentalSubstitute: In ''Film/XMenApocalypse'', he is a teacher at the school, and he has a [[http://collider.com/x-men-apocalypse-news-things-to-know/ paternal relationship with the younger mutants.]]
* PermaStubble: He has light stubble throughout ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'' which is meant to make him look older than his clean-shaven appearance in ''First Class''.
* PlayingGertrude: Creator/NicholasHoult was 25 years old during ''Film/XMenApocalypse'''s principal photography, but if we assume that his character was around 20 in 1962, then in 1983 Beast is pushing 40.
* PowerPerversionPotential: Raven jokingly insinuates in ''Film/XMenFirstClass'' that Hank's large, ape-like feet might be an indication that he has a [[BiggerIsBetterInBed massive penis]].
* PrettyBoy:
** ''Film/XMenFirstClass'': He is quite similar to Xavier (just younger and a lot more insecure), and while this may be a coincidence, it's nevertheless convenient that he shares some facial features with his mentor, like pale skin, blue eyes and thick reddish lips. The one big physical difference between them is that Hank is a lot taller.
** ''Film/XMenApocalypse'': Repeating a theme from ''First Class'' is him being a mirror image of Charles with a few key differences. [=McCoy=] remains pretty and boyish in a similar way to Xavier, but despite being a decade younger, he is much more cautious and realistic than his ex-mentor, and he makes plans to ensure that the X-Men have everything they need when (and not if) the peace between mutants and humans is shattered.
* ProfessorGuineaPig: In ''First Class'', he is the first test subject for his appearance cure because there is not a big pool of test subjects for this sort of thing.
* TheReliableOne: He assumes responsibility for Charles and the estate after his friend becomes an emotional train wreck in ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast''.
* SatelliteCharacter: Despite receiving a fair amount of screen time in ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'', he doesn't undergo any proper character development, as his existence ''completely'' revolves around Charles.
* TheSmartGuy: He's incredibly intelligent and a brilliant scientist who has invented most of the nifty tools and gadgets (X-Jet, Cerebro, etc.) that the X-Men use.
* TransformationTrinket: He makes a serum that temporarily reverts him from "blue Beast" to "Nicholas Hoult" in ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast''. [[spoiler:It comes to save him as a Sentinel is about to attack, as the serum not only disguises him but cloaks his X-gene as well.]]
* {{Trekkie}}: It's hinted in ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'' that he is a fan of ''Series/StarTrekTheOriginalSeries'' (an episode is playing on one of his [=TVs=]), which is fitting considering that he's {{Adorkable}} and a HollywoodNerd. He describes Peter's mutation as "fascinating," which is a reference to Spock. Creator/BryanSinger's favourite fandom is ''Franchise/StarTrek'', so it's natural that he would want to bestow that quality on the character (who, coincidentally, can be called Dr. [=McCoy=]). His Trekkie-ness is more obvious in ''The Rogue Cut'' because Beast is enjoying the episode while sipping a beverage.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Charles Xavier. From the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 to the rise of the Sentinels in the BadFuture, Hank always remains at Xavier's and the X-Men's side. And he won't hesitate to protect him, either.
** In ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'', there are plenty of other things that he could do with his time, yet he chooses to take care of Charles during the latter's decade-long HeroicBSOD. Hank may even be a little ''too'' loyal because he serves as an enabler by providing a serum which worsens his friend's already bad case of substance abuse.
* UnstoppableRage: When he fights Magneto in ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'', it's decidedly in Beast's favour, to the extent that [[spoiler:Beast almost drowns him. Magneto only barely manages to save himself by using a nearby sculpture to restrain Beast.]]
* WouldHitAGirl: He must defend himself when the homicidal Psylocke fights him in ''Film/XMenApocalypse''.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: The fur that covers his body is blue. Before his KarmicTransformation, however, he was just a (somewhat) ordinary brunet--the color probably came from him using Mystique's DNA.

A mutant who has the ability to absorb energy and discharge it as blasts. He is the much older brother of Scott Summers.
----
* EightiesHair: Has a mullet in 1983.
* AgeLift: Given the decision to make him one of the original students and to avoid ComicBookTime. In the comics, he's Cyclops' '''''younger brother''''', but his movie counterpart is about 20 years older than Scott.
* BigBrotherInstinct: In ''Film/XMenApocalypse'', he brings Scott to Xavier's school in the hope that his former mentor can help his younger brother cope with his potentially dangerous mutant power.
* TheBigGuy: Despite not being the largest or physically strongest, Alex's powers are ''much'' more destructive than the other young mutants and he's far more likely to pick a fight than the more docile Hank.
* ChestBlaster: In ''Film/XMenFirstClass'', his suit is designed to focus his energy and discharge it from a device in his chest. By ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'', he no longer needs the suit.
* CoolShades: Sports '80s-style sunglasses in ''Film/XMenApocalypse''.
%% * DeadpanSnarker
* DemotedToExtra: He appears in the beginning of ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'' to be rescued by Mystique and never shows up afterwards. Still, at least he survived, unlike the rest of the ''Film/XMenFirstClass'' cast; everyone who didn't appear in the earlier/canonically later movies were unceremoniously killed off in between films. Of course, he had to survive because in the movie-verse, he's Cyclops' much older brother.
* {{Fanservice}}: In ''Film/XMenFirstClass'', he displays his bare, muscular arms during training, plus a section of his chest is exposed when the energy output device is removed from his combat uniform.
* HellBentForLeather: His black leather jacket in ''Film/XMenFirstClass'' mark him as a bad boy in comparison to the other mutant recruits.
* ImperialStormtrooperMarksmanshipAcademy: When he starts to practice controlling his powers, he first ends up shooting everything EXCEPT his intended target. While he really was trying to aim, he couldn't control the sheer force of his powers yet. After some training, he becomes much better at targeting and controlling his blasts.
* JerkJock: A downplayed example in ''Film/XMenFirstClass'' as he's not as bad as what this trope is normally associated with, but he's verbally abusive towards the geeky Hank, and Alex even fits the blond stereotype.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He bullies Hank and is generally pretty abrasive. Later, he sticks by his friends when Shaw comes, and does grow to like and respect Hank.
* MagicFeather: The chest blaster device helps him control his energy blasts, but eventually it gets damaged. He eventually gains enough control over it to aim his uncontrolled blasts effectively, clipping Angel's wings with them.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: He is fearful of the damage his powers could do if he isn't kept isolated, and so prefers being in solitary confinement while in prison so he is at less risk of hurting someone by accident.
* PlayingGertrude: He is roughly two decades older than his brother Scott, but Lucas Till is just 6 years Tye Sheridan's senior.
* PowerIncontinence: In ''Film/XMenFirstClass'', he can emit powerful energy blasts, but he can't control their direction. This problem is solved by a special harness, which he even refers to as his "energy diaper" in a deleted scene.
* SacrificialLion: [[spoiler:He's only one of five characters to appear in every entry of the First Class trilogy, but because he's the least developed, he's killed off in ''Film/XMenApocalypse''.]]
* SleevesAreForWimps: In ''Film/XMenFirstClass'' during the training scenes, everyone gets matching grey tracksuits. His, inexplicably, doesn't have sleeves.
* StuffedIntoTheFridge: [[spoiler:In a rare male example, he dies in ''Film/XMenApocalypse'' to kick-start his younger brother's Scott CharacterDevelopment.]]
* WouldHitAGirl: Angel Salvadore attacks him and Banshee with her highly acidic spit balls, so once he and his teammate land safely on a beach, Havok unleashes his power and burns her wings.
* UndyingLoyalty: Although he was under Professor X's tutelage for no more than a year when he was a teen, [[note]]it started from the lead-up to the Cuban Missile Crisis and it ended when Alex was drafted for the UsefulNotes/VietnamWar after Xavier's school was open for only one semester[[/note]] he remains grateful for the help that Charles gave to him [[Film/XMenApocalypse two decades later]]. Havok is the first one to run after the Professor and try to rescue him when his ex-mentor is seized by Magneto.
* {{Unishment}}: Given a passing mention in ''Film/XMenFirstClass''. A prison guard where he was staying at the beginning of the film remarks that he's "the only prisoner I've ever seen who actually ''prefers'' solitary." Sure enough, when we first see him, Alex is in solitary. A subversion, since Alex doesn't really ''enjoy'' solitary, he's trying to stay away from people so he doesn't actually hurt them with the energy blasts that are his mutant power, and which he has great difficulty in controlling.

* AgeLift: Inverted; he's a teenager as opposed to an adult when he joins the proto X-Men. His comics' counterpart was in a romantic relationship with Moira [=MacTaggert=] (and therefore he was close to her in age), but in the movie-verse, he's at least a dozen years her junior.
* AdaptationalNationality: He is American in the movie-verse, but in the comics, he was Irish.

* FieryRedhead: His actor even auditioned because it was a rare ginger superhero. Ironically, [[InvertedTrope Sean's one of the least hot-headed and combative of the students]], with those titles going moreso to Alex and Raven.
* GlassShatteringSound: In ''Film/XMenFirstClass''. Charles points out all the science to him.
* MakeMeWannaShout: His mutation involves making very powerful sound waves that can break glass (among other things). They're also very effective at locating things underwater, in similar variant of echolocation. In an unusual variation, this includes [[IBelieveICanFly the power of flight]], by bouncing sound waves off the ground back into a wingsuit.

[[spoiler:It doesn't turn out so good for him when Shaw's group survives unscathed due to Shaw's mutant ability allowing him to absorb Havok's attack.]]

->'''Played by:''' Creator/EvanPeters
->'''Film Appearances''': ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast | Film/XMenApocalypse''

A mischievous speedster who is a member of the X-Men in the AlternateTimeline. He is the son of Magneto.
----
* SeventiesHair: In ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'', his glam mop upset many fans in promotional materials, but it fits in with the era perfectly. Note the length and the silver sideburns.
* EightiesHair: He rocks a mullet in ''Film/XMenApocalypse''.
* AdaptationNameChange: His real name is changed from "Pietro Maximoff" to the more Americanized "Peter Maximoff." Presumably, this is due to the fact that the film version of Quicksilver was raised in the U.S., while his comic counterpart grew up in Eastern Europe. A supplementary website, 25 Moments, still refers to him as Pietro and so does the Italian dub.
** There's also the fact that Quicksilver appears in ''Film/AvengersAgeOfUltron''--that one uses the name Pietro.
* AdaptationalNationality: The Eastern European Pietro Maximoff has been Americanized into Peter Maximoff.
* AdaptationalHeroism:
** ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'': In the comics, he is often an outright ''jerk'' (often intentionally), but in this film, he's more of a merry mischief-maker. He can easily flee on his own once the breakout goes bust, but instead, he goes out of his way to save Logan, Charles and Erik, even though he had already freed the latter from prison by technicality. Quicksilver is also clearly not impressed (if amused) by the idea that he helped free the person suspected of killing JFK once he finds out, [[spoiler:and is shown to be stunned and horrified by Magneto's "demonstration" in the climax]].
** ''Film/XMenApocalypse'': Comic book Quicksilver was never a member of the X-Men, but his movie counterpart is. He also [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14JojQfFg5E expresses his veneration]] for Mystique's courage in defeating Magneto--his own father--and preventing the latter from assassinating President Nixon.[[note]]This confirms Peter's ReactionShot in ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'' where he was astonished--in a bad way--by Magneto's actions in Washington D.C.[[/note]]
* AdaptationalVillainy: In the comics, he may be a world-class asshole and suffer from HeelFaceRevolvingDoor, but he is well-meaning at the core and can be counted on to do the right thing. In ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'', he's just a bored teenager with a kleptomaniac streak who doesn't really care about being a productive member of society and who has to have the breakout sold to him as an opportunity to raise hell, as it's clear that he probably wouldn't have done it of his own volition otherwise.
* AgeLift: Is closer in age to Cyclops and Jean in the comics, but he's a decade older than them in the movie-verse.
* AllergicToRoutine: Because he experiences time much more slowly than everyone else, he gets bored very easily, so he treats life like it's one big game. He gets his thrills by stealing whatever catches his fancy, and Xavier observes that Peter is a kleptomaniac.
* AscendedExtra: He has a larger role in ''Film/XMenApocalypse''.
* BasementDweller: He is around 27 years old in 1983, and he still lives in the basement of his mother's house.
* BeneathTheMask: His jovial facade hides some deep-seated daddy issues regarding his estranged father, Magneto.
-->'''Quicksilver''': He left my mom before I was born. I met him ten years back, but I didn't know it was him. By the time I figured it out, it was too late. Then I saw him on TV again, and I came to the house looking for him, but by the time I got there... ''(sighs)'' Late again. You know, for a guy who moves as fast as me, I always seem to be too late.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Is seen playing with his little sister. He's even willing to sit down and watch television with her, which is heartwarming considering how hyperactive the guy is.
* BulletTime: He sees the world in slow motion when he runs.
* CharacterDevelopment: In ''Days of Future Past'' he's a petty thief who only goes along to rescue Magneto for the thrill of breaking into the Pentagon. By the time of ''X-men Apocalypse'' he's matured greatly and [[spoiler: singlehandedly saves everyone in the mansion when it explodes [[ComesGreatResponsibility because he can.]]]]
* TheCharmer: While it's not strictly part of canon, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFMyEOuTfxY this commercial]] depicts Quicksilver as a romantic suitor when he tries to woo a young woman with his [[PowerPerversionPotential super-speed]]. Since this ad was approved by the ''Film/XMenApocalypse'' producers, we can infer that it's part of his personality to court a lady with roses and candlelight.
* ChivalrousPervert: He blows a couple of kisses at Moira and holds her in a traditional dance pose before rescuing her from an explosion. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFMyEOuTfxY In this commercial,]] Quicksilver ''sniffs the hair'' of the girl he's (very much) interested in, and he performs elaborate gestures just so that she can better enjoy the romantic movie she's watching.
* CivvieSpandex: He does not wear a costume in ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'', but instead has a "cool jacket" and a pair of goggles.
* CompositeCharacter: He looks and acts like his comic-counterpart's nephew, [[YoungAvengers Speed]], and even wears a similar pair of goggles.
* CoolShades: [[http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140523085102/marveldatabase/images/5/52/Peter_Maximoff_%28Earth-10005%29.jpg Yup]]. Used to overcome anything that can impair his sight while in super speed.
* DarkestHour: You know things are bad when the StoryBreakerPower-laden Quicksilver gets ''immobilized''. [[spoiler:Which Apocalypse does, by the way, at least until the others distract him long enough for Beast to free him.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: Every line out of his mouth is a wisecrack.
* {{Delinquents}}: As a teen, he was a juvenile delinquent whose favourite hobby was [[FiveFingerDiscount shoplifting]].
* DeusExitMachina: In ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'', [[spoiler:he EASILY takes out the guards in Magneto's prison, and is faster than anybody, even two powerful mutants--and one with enhanced senses--can react. Combining him with Xavier in locating either Trask or Mystique would've wrapped the plot up in far shorter time and at least half the damage. So naturally, he's out of the story once the break-out scene is over, save for a cameo near the end. {{Justified}} in that he only worked with the mutants because of the opportunity to pull off the heist of a lifetime (and Charles probably didn't want to drag more young people into this war after what happened to his students).]]
* DisappearedDad: He tells Mystique in ''Film/XMenApocalypse'' that Magneto left his mother before he was born, and Ms. Maximoff remains bitter at Erik for how he had treated her.
* DistressedDude: In ''Film/XMenApocalypse'', [[spoiler:Stryker]] captures him, Raven, Hank, and Moira [[spoiler:so he could question about the disturbances caused by Apocalypse. They get freed by Scott, Jean, and Kurt.]]
* DressingAsTheEnemy: He dons the uniform (which conveniently fits him perfectly) of a Pentagon guard that he has BoundAndGagged so that he can reach Magneto's prison cell.
* FlashStep: A natural application of his mutant ability is to cross a room in a heartbeat.
* {{Foil}}: To Professor X in ''Film/XMenApocalypse''. They are light-hearted, [[TheCharmer charismatic]] {{Pretty Boy}}s and {{Chivalrous Pervert}}s, and they even share an attraction towards Moira.[[note]]It's downplayed in Quicksilver's case, but he is flirty with her just before he saves her from an explosion at Xavier's school.[[/note]] They have both undergone a ManChild phase and have parental issues--Peter grew up [[DisappearedDad fatherless]], and Charles had experienced [[ParentalNeglect emotional neglect]] from his mother.
* ForgotAboutHisPowers: Averted. During the fight [[spoiler:against Apocalypse]], he does ''not'' forget the fact that he's unstoppable while in BulletTime, and uses it accordingly. [[spoiler:He just doesn't think of the possibility that Apocalypse might try to thrust his feet to the ground ([[{{Foreshadowing}} like he does to Erik's Polish co-workers previously]]).]]
* GadgeteerGenius: He mods a {{VideoGame/Pong}} arcade cabinet to run significantly faster than normal.
* GeneHunting: He seeks out his father Magneto in ''Film/XMenApocalypse'', [[spoiler:but Peter chooses not to disclose to Erik that they're related]].
* GenkiGuy: Because of his accelerated perception of time, Quicksilver seems to get bored easily. Xavier calls him a pain in the ass because he refuses to stay still, running circles around his guests and generally amusing himself at their expense.
* HellBentForLeather:
** ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'': He's fond of his silver leather jacket.
** ''Film/XMenApocalypse'': He sports shiny black leather pants and has a grey leather jacket.
* ImpossibleThief: His super speed allows him to pull off impossible thefts.
* ItAmusedMe: He helps the team in ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'' just because he'll get to break into the most secure prison on Earth.
* KleptomaniacHero: He frequently shoplifts behind his mother's back along with a lot of other hijinks, such as breaking into the Pentagon to spring Erik.
* LightningBruiser: So fast that time effectively stands still for him when he's moving, and hits with the kind of force that you'd expect from something moving at those high speeds.
* LukeYouAreMyFather: His entire motivation in ''Film/XMenApocalypse'' is to meet Magneto and tell him that he's his father. [[spoiler:After seeing that Magneto is still grieving for his family, he decides to postpone TheReveal for a while.]]
* ManChild: At the age of 27, he still isn't an independent adult in ''Film/XMenApocalypse'' because he continues to reside in his mother's basement, although his living space is a lot less cluttered than it was in ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'', which implies that his kleptomania has toned down in the past decade. He cracks a joke about his mother wanting him to get out of the house, and Peter [[https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x49dygo acknowledges]] his BasementDweller status on the X-Jet.
* MotorMouth: Talks almost as fast as he... does everything else. And good luck shutting him up.
* MundaneUtility: He uses his super speed to play ping pong with himself.
* MysticalWhiteHair: The super-fast mutant has ''silver'' hair.
* PluckyComicRelief: He is a source of comedy in ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'' and ''Film/XMenApocalypse''.
* PrettyBoy:
** ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'': He's baby-faced with reddish lips and cute in an impish way. It's a visual cue to the audience that he's an immature prankster who doesn't take life seriously.
** ''Film/XMenApocalypse'': He's affirmed to be Magneto's son, so Peter's softer features juxtapose his father's VillainousCheekbones. Quicksilver fights for the heroic team, and Magneto sides with the BigBad. Maximoff's puckish looks also mark him as a ManChild and a BasementDweller.
* RefugeInAudacity: Blatantly uses his super speed when he first meets Beast, Wolverine, and Professor X because he knows no one would believe what they said about him. It's implied this is how he gets away with everything he does.
* RequiredSecondaryPowers:
** He has no problems moving at super-speeds himself (in fact, he's most comfortable that way as everything around him moves too slowly). However, when he runs Magneto past a hallway full of guards during their escape from the Pentagon, he specifically supports Erik's head and neck to protect him from whiplash during the sudden acceleration. After they reach their destination, Erik is visibly nauseous.
** He can also hit people harder with much less force; he barely touches the guards in SuperSpeed, and that causes blows hard enough to render them unconscious.
* StickyFingers: His basement is full of stolen goods such as several [=TVs=], a Pong arcade machine and an entire shelf of junk food. His mother, upon opening the door, assumes Wolverine and co. are cops and simply offers to cut a check for whatever he stole.
* StoryBreakerPower:
** ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'': He gets PutOnABus after the Pentagon raid because, as that raid shows, he is ''downright unstoppable''. While moving at SuperSpeed, simply tapping a person is the practical equivalent of getting hit by a heavyweight boxer, and he can take out an entire room of armed guards so quickly that their bullets weren't even able to reach the people they had shot at when he started.
** ''Film/XMenApocalypse'': He wastes no time in using this story-breaker of a power again [[spoiler:against Apocalypse himself. Since Apocalypse is [[OnlyTheAuthorCanSaveThemNow Apocalypse]], though, it doesn't go really well.]]
* SweetTooth: He is seen eating an orange Popsicle and there are boxes of snack cakes that he stole. During the Pentagon raid, he takes a moment to taste a sauce that was flung airborne by Magneto.
* SuperSpeed: His superpower.
** ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'': He has one scene where he does a TimeStop while Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle" plays.
** ''Film/XMenApocalypse'': He does it again, and this time it's taken UpToEleven. [[spoiler:He saves ''all'' of Xavier's students, plus a goldfish and a bulldog, from the explosion that destroys the school. It all happens in ''nanoseconds''.]] He's just ''this'' fast.
%% * TricksterArchetype
* VanityIsFeminine: He checks his hair and teeth in the mirror of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFMyEOuTfxY this commercial,]] and he's a ManChild in ''Film/XMenApocalypse''.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Downplayed; while he is fond of breaking the law, he's not a jerk like in the comics.

* EightiesHair: In 1983, his bangs come straight from Music/AFlockOfSeagulls.
* {{Adorkable}}: This is Kodi Smit-[=McPhee=]'s assessment of Nightcrawler from the May 2016 issue of ''Empire''.
---->"Kurt's an affectionate, cute character. He's almost a cute animal to me. [...] He's awkward and weird and amazing in a different way."
** After escaping from the Eastern side of the Berlin Wall, apparently the first thing he does is get himself a replica of the ''Music/{{Thriller}}'' jacket.
** Near the end of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFMyEOuTfxY this commercial]], he tries to be menacing towards Quicksilver, but his growl isn't much more threatening than a cat's purr. Before that, he's reading an article on Gothic churches.
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: Blue.
* ApologeticAttacker: Apologizes for burning Angel's right wing in the East Berlin fight club in ''Film/XMenApocalypse''.
* BadassAdorable: His adolescent self in ''Film/XMenApocalypse.''
* TheBusCameBack: After a 13-year-long absence from the silver screen, we finally see him again in ''Film/XMenApocalypse''.
* CharacterDevelopment: Kodi Smit-[=McPhee=] elaborates on his [[http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/meet-the-x-men-apocalypse-cast-storm-magneto-cyclops-psylocke-more-943 character's journey]] in ''Film/XMenApocalypse''.
-->"Nightcrawler, he's kind of scared of his own shadow at this point, so he's probably pretty terrified. Through everything he does in this movie it's kind of, as we say, the stepping-stones of becoming the brave hero he is."
* CircusBrat: In the AlternateTimeline, he leaves the circus when he's still a teenager.
* CoveredInScars: He is covered, from his pointy ears to all four of his toes, in rather artistic-looking raised scars. They're self-inflicted; apparently, he felt the need to punish himself for... something. He seems to be a bit of a [[ExtremeDoormat harmless milksop]], so it's somewhat baffling and/or depressing to think about what he could possibly have to feel so guilty about. It could be related to the fact he's a devout Catholic.
* DarkIsNotEvil: As the description states, he looks like a dark blue demon, but is strongly religious and helps the good guys.
* DistressedDude: In ''Film/XMenApocalypse'', he's rescued by Raven when he's at the East Berlin cage match.
* FightClubbing: He's forced to participate in this in ''Film/XMenApocalypse'' after being abducted by the organizers of the East Berlin venue.
* FunnyForeigner: His culture shock is played for laughs in ''X-Men Apocalypse.''
* HellBentForLeather: His ''Music/{{Thriller}}'' jacket is made out of red leather.
* HeroWorshipper: In ''Film/XMenApocalypse'', he sees Raven as a figure of legend (like many other mutants), and is understandably surprised and pleased when she comes to rescue him.
* IWasQuiteALooker: Not that he was exactly ''bad'' looking as an adult, but he was an elfin [[PrettyBoy cutie pie]] during his adolescence.
* LightningBruiser: Even faster as he teleports.
* TheMagnificent: The Incredible Nightcrawler. He hasn't particularly let it go to his head, possibly because he gained the title as a circus acrobat, but he'll still drop it in occasionally.
* PluckyComicRelief: He provides some of the more amusing moments in ''Film/XMenApocalypse''.
* PrehensileTail: Reptile-like tail, though it's rarely used for grabbing someone (unlike, say, Azazel).
* PrettyBoy: Although he falls more on the "cute" side in ''Film/XMenApocalypse'', he is extremely attractive with his elfin features (particularly larger, more prominent ears) which are further enhanced by his adolescent development. They reflect his {{Adorkable}} personality, and even with the scars on his face, the impression Nightcrawler leaves on viewers is that he's a lovely blue elf rather than a freaky blue demon.
* RaisedCatholic: Is a devout Catholic who questions if his demonic appearance is a curse from God for some misdeeds that he must atone for, to the point of tattooing crosses and such.
* ReligiousBruiser: Even reaches TheAtoner levels in ''Film/X2XMenUnited''. Downplayed in ''Film/XMenApocalypse'', as he is less overtly religious, but is shown praying [[spoiler:for Alex's soul when he, Scott and Jean have stowed away on Stryker's helicopter.]]
* SelfHarm: Implicitly where all those scars came from.

* BadassLongcoat: Her comment over the X-Men wearing spandex as a benefit for being a member may have something to do with it.
* BoyishShortHair: She sports a buzz cut as a visual cue to the audience that her character is not a girly girl (and because it might be the only way she can have hair at all without it constantly catching fire). Lampshaded by Deadpool, who makes a Music/SineadOConnor joke about it.
* ClothingDamage: Using her powers actually burns up her clothes. Fortunately, she usually wears her X-Men uniform underneath, which is [[MySuitIsAlsoSuper resistant to her powers]].
* CivvieSpandex: A leather jacket and a scarf overtop her actual uniform.
* ColorCodedCharacters: Black must be her favourite because that's the only colour she wears when she's not in her X-Men uniform.
* CompositeCharacter: Instead of having telepathy like she does in the comics, she has propulsive energy powers like those of Cannonball, the character who held her role in previous drafts of the script. Plus some concussive uses; she crawls under a piece of scrap metal, yells at Deadpool to climb on top of it, then explodes while standing still, blasting it about a hundred feet into the air to fling Deadpool onto the flight deck of an aircraft carrier.
* DarkIsNotEvil: She may wear all black, but she's a hero nonetheless.
* DeadpanSnarker: An interesting example as a lot of her snark is [[SilentSnarker expressive instead of verbal]], but she is capable of snarking verbally when she wants.
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette: She is fond of goth-style make-up, which creates a greater contrast between her fair skin and dark brown hair.
* EmoTeen: Deadpool calls her that reocurringly, though if anything she seems closer to a Goth-ish person.
-->'''Warhead:''' ''[to Colossus]'' Can we go?\\
'''Deadpool:''' ''[mocking]'' Look! I'm a teenage girl! I'd rather be anywhere than here! I'm all about long, sullen silences, followed by mean comments, followed by more silences. So what's it gonna be? Long, sullen silence or mean comment?\\
'''Warhead:''' ''[beat]'' You've got me in a box here.
* FascinatingEyebrow: She raises an eyebrow after seeing Deadpool's failed attempts to hurt Colossus.
* GracefulLoser: When Deadpool accuses her of only being able to communicate in [[SilentSnarker sullen silences]] or mean comments, she pauses for a moment and casually admits, "You've got me in a box here."
* HavingABlast: Her powers make her a human bomb. She doesn't fly so much as explodes herself upwards or forwards. She can also generate a stationary blast; she does one in front a pile of metal scrap and it's sent flying into a pair of mercenaries, crushing them to death.
* HellBentForLeather: She is usually seen in a black leather jacket or long coat. [[spoiler:This burns off when she uses her powers for the first time onscreen, revealing a more traditional X-Men uniform underneath]].
* MySuitIsAlsoSuper: Unlike the civilian clothes she wears over it, her X-Men uniform is immune to her fiery powers.
* NotSoAboveItAll: She can't resist laughing at Deadpool injuring himself while he's trying to hit Colossus, and when Colossus gets fed up with it and swats Deadpool aside into a car.
* OnlySaneMan: Way more level-headed than Deadpool (not that it's a very high bar to begin with).
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Destroys a large part of the scrapyard with her last attack, capsizing the grounded helicarrier and sending Angel Dust bouncing around like a pinball.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: Tiny compared to Deadpool and especially Colossus, but her powers have her pack one hell of a wallop.
* SnarkToSnarkCombat: With Deadpool.
* TheStoic: Fills this role for the hero side. She has one NotSoStoic moment when Deadpool makes a fool of himself trying to attack Colossus and she gets a kick out of his AmusingInjuries.
* UnexpectedCharacter: She is an ''extremely'' obscure X-Men character in the comics who has no connection to Deadpool, but she appears in his spin-off movie. This was done solely so that Deadpool could react to her name.
* WhenSheSmiles: When Deadpool's antics actually make her laugh.

!! Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin / Colossus
[[quoteright:281:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/deadpool_screenshots_50.jpg]]
->'''Played By:''' Stefan Kapičić (voice), Andre Tricoteux (motion-capture), Greg [=LeSalle=] (facial motion-capture)
->'''Film Appearances''': ''Film/{{Deadpool}}''

A mutant who can transform his body into living steel, granting superhuman strength and a resistance to damage and temperature.

For the original timeline's Colossus from the main ''Film/XMen'' films, see Characters/XMenFilmSeriesXMen.
----
* TwentyFourHourArmor: Even though he should be able to turn his powers off, he never does so in the film, even when doing something as mundane as eating breakfast (which, of course, just makes that funnier).
* AdaptationalWimp: In the comics, Colossus is damn near unstoppable when he wants to be. In this movie, Angel Dust, whom Wade was able to knock backwards with a headbutt at one point, is able to take him on in a fight that ''isn't'' hilariously one-sided, including using leverage against him in a situation that shouldn't have been possible with his strength. Late in their fight, she starts choking Colossus out with a steel cable. In the comics, Colossus doesn't need to breathe in his armored form at all, at least for a few minutes at a time. He seems none the worse for wear at the end of the fight, however, so his difficulty fighting her may be less related to a lack of might and more related to misguided chivalry.
* {{Adorkable}}: Let's start with the fact that his first couple scenes have him eating cereal out of a bowl at least three sizes too small for him and lecturing his ward on the importance of eating breakfast in the morning. Near the end of the film, he catches a ride with Deadpool in Dopinder's cab--he's squished in the backseat next to Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and he's casually sipping a drink from a cup that's probably normal-sized, but comically small in his giant hands.
* BadassBaritone: He speaks in a low, Russsian-accented baritone that just oozes badassery.
* BallsOfSteel: Quite literally. Deadpool tries to do a GroinAttack on him and fails horribly. [[spoiler:Angel Dust]] is ''much'' more successful in her attempt.
-->'''Deadpool:''' [[LampshadeHanging Your poor wife]]!
* BigBrotherMentor: He's trying to mentor Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Also tries to be one to Deadpool, who he considers a rowdy, misguided (and heavily armed) child.
* BoisterousBruiser: He occasionally acts like this, though a less LargeHam example than most. This is best seen when he's talking to Warhead at the Mansion.
* ButtMonkey: Despite being a towering hunk of walking metal, Colossus repeatedly gets humiliated and disrespected by Deadpool, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Angel Dust.
* TheCape: He's a total boy scout when it comes to morality and manners. He's in fact the only character in the entire film who makes a point of ''not'' cursing.
* ChasteHero: Absolutely fine with 'hitting' a woman (once it's established that she can take an extreme amount of punishment), but instantly covers his eyes in shame when she has a WardrobeMalfunction in the middle of the fight.
* ChromeChampion: A behemoth of a man with steel skin.
* TheComicallySerious: He's a total boyscout when it comes to morality and manners. Also, he repeatedly gets humiliated and disrespected by Deadpool, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Angel Dust.
* DeadpanSnarker: He is not impressed by Wade's attempts to injure him.
-->'''Colossus:''' This is embarrassing.
* DistractedByTheSexy: Angel Dust takes advantage of him pointing out her exposed left boob during their fight.
* {{Foil}}: To Deadpool. Chaste-mouthed, paragon-like gentle giant boy scout X-Man contrasted to Deadpool's foul-mouthed sardonic violent psychotic freelancer.
-->'''Colossus:''' We can't allow this, Deadpool. Please... come quietly.\\
'''Deadpool:''' You big, chrome cock-gobbler!\\
'''Colossus:''' ...That's not nice.
* GentleGiant: He's a towering mountain of organic steel skin, but is a kind and compassionate man who prefers NOT to resort to violence when he can help it. [[BewareTheNiceOnes But watch your ass if he has to do so.]]
* HonorBeforeReason: It does not occur him that graciously stopping to give Angel Dust time to fix her WardrobeMalfunction leaves him wide-open for a counter-attack. He also gets decked for trying to avoid hurting Angel and simply handcuffing her.
* HuskyRusskie: He has a prominent Russian accent this time around.
* HypocriticalHumor: Combined with the fact he doesn't power down in the film, this makes his "Hero" speech funnier.
-->'''Colossus:''' People think being hero is full-time job. Wake up a hero. Brush your teeth a hero. Not true.
* IfYouKillHimYouWillBeJustLikeHim: He tries to convince Deadpool to be a bigger man than Ajax and spare his life, but [[spoiler:Deadpool just rolls his eyes and shoots Ajax anyway]]. He then tells Colossus that being a hero isn't worth sparing the lives of horrible people and mocks him, saying "not everyone monitors a hall like you".
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: He [[spoiler: tries to]] saves the villain, is kind to everyone, delivers several "YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre" speeches, cannot stand swearing, and an exposed breast has him instantly covering his eyes.
* KirkSummation: With Professor X himself not around in this film, Colossus takes up the job by telling Deadpool that being a hero doesn't mean being a joyless stick in the mud, and all it takes is recognizing a few opportunities throughout your life to do the right thing.
* LargeAndInCharge: Nuff said.
* MightyGlacier: He's strong enough to overpower Angel Dust when he puts down real effort. Unfortunately, he's as slow as he is strong and she made him pay for it early in their fight.
* MotherRussiaMakesYouStrong: Unstoppable in battle and extremely Russian.
* NiceGuy: He is easily the most polite character in ''Deadpool'', trying to encourage the title character to become a hero and acting as a ParentalSubstitute to Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
* NoSell: Deadpool breaks several of his body parts trying to injure him. Colossus doesn't budge.
* TheParagon: He tries ''so hard'' to be this for Wade.
* ParentalSubstitute: While he does act as a BigBrotherMentor to Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Colossus has moments where he behaves more like a father figure to her.
* ThePollyanna: He is optimistic and positive about everything. In his opinion, the fact that the X-Mansion gets destroyed every few years "[[MiseryBuildsCharacter builds character]]."
* SaveTheVillain: Carries both Negasonic Teenage Warhead and [[spoiler:Angel Dust]] away from the [[spoiler:collapsing junkyard ship in the finale]]. He encourages Deadpool to do the same to [[spoiler:Ajax]], but he declines.
* StressVomit: [[spoiler:Once Deadpool shoots Ajax.]] Apparently with the face actor as well, as fake-vomiting is [[http://www.comicbookresources.com/article/deadpools-colossus-facial-actor-reveals-dangers-puking not easy]].
* SuperStrength: Bats bad guys around like ragdolls, and lobs giant work vehicle tires like skipping stones.
* SuperToughness: Enough that the commensurate SuperStrength and Super Toughness of Angel Dust means that both just [[PaddedSumoGameplay futilly clobber each other about]] for most of their fight.
* SuddenlyVoiced: He ranges from TheQuietOne to almost TheVoiceless in previous ''X-Men'' movies. Here, he talks quite a lot.
* WinsByDoingAbsolutelyNothing: Deadpool tries fighting him. [[ChromeChampion Naturally]], Colossus just needs to stay still and do absolutely nothing for the majority of the fight as Deadpool tries attacking him and completely shatters his bones every time he connects a hit.
* WrongGenreSavvy: He seems to think he's in a traditional PG-13 Superhero Movie. He is so very, very wrong!
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: To Deadpool, whom he wants to make an X-Man.
* YouNoTakeCandle: Speaks this way to round out the HuskyRusskie stereotype. His first lines see him tell Negasonic Teenage Warhead "We have mission." In the Russian dub of the movie, since everyone speaks Russian and accents would be redundant, he resorts to Ye Olde Butcherede Russian instead. That comes out no less hilarious.
