* ReluctantWarrior: He develops this mindset after the horrific Transformation Institute mission. He does not want to be a fighter and does not want to be Ozpin's vessel but keeps fighting in Ozpin's war because he knows people will die if he doesn't.
* ShrinkingViolet: Oscar is quiet and socially awkward, and often prefers the company of books to the company of people. He is unused to the life of a Huntsman and thus is often overwhelmed by their way of life. He also has little confidence in his abilities compared to his companions. He is not painfully shy, but has trouble conversing with strangers and has difficulty believing in himself. This is not helped by everyone's mistrust of Ozpin, which causes them to shun Oscar as well. [[spoiler:America]] is the first person to approach him with the intent of getting to know him (and without wishing to speak to Ozpin), which stuns Oscar. It takes a lot of coaxing to get Oscar to talk about himself since he does not think he is very interesting. Eventually, Oscar reveals how uncomfortable he is with his new life, and how upset he is that people only seem to care about getting information from Ozpin and not getting to know Oscar as a person.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: Like in canon, when Ozpin is in control. The difference is that his eyes stay gold when Ozpin is in the driver's seat instead of returning to their normal hazel.
* TakeUpMySword: He uses Ozpin's cane to fight. He hates using it because the weapon is yet another way he is not seen as Oscar, but just as Ozpin's successor. He'd like to create his own weapon but does not have the supplies or time to do so.

* OverrideCommand: Polendina installed a kill-on-sight command for Pyrrha in Penny 2.0. It overrides all other missions in favor of Pyrrha Nikos's termination. All missions except protecting Alfred F. Jones, of course. [[FromBadToWorse Unfortunately,]] Penny's logic processes dictates that both missions align.

* TookALevelInKindness: A minor but noticeable shift in her character comes when she grows to care about people other than Alfred for reasons unrelated to her mission to protect him. She also learns compassion and how to comfort people when they are distressed. She's still [[SociopathicHero ruthless]] when it comes to everyone not on her list of loved ones.
* TheUnblinking: Penny never blinks, reinforcing her robotic and [[note]] seemingly [[/note]] emotionless nature. The only times she does blink is when she is feeling conflict or emotion.
