* BewareTheSillyOnes: Of all the Alliance species the Gnomes are both the smallest and the most excentric ones, making it easy to underestimate them, but when they are pushed too far they prove to be suprisingly dangerous and tenacious foes thanks to their agility, ingeniuty, intelligence and unpredictability. The best example of it may their defense of Gnomeregan during the Second War where they managed to kill many orcs with booby traps and created an impregnetable gate that successfully repelled the Old Horde's assaults.

* ShorterMeansSmarter: They are, along with Goblins, both the smallest and most technologically advanced playable race.

* TheBusCameBack: They were introduced in ''Warcraft II'', but inexplicably absent during ''Warcraft III'' when the Scourge attacked the Alliance. ''World of Warcraft'' brought them back and revealed the reason of their absence; they were busy trying to fight off the Troggs from Gnomeregan, and as such unable to send help to Lordaeron.

* CuteMonsterGirl: "Monster" might be a stretch since Gnomes at least all look human enough, but males tend to be [[{{Gonk}} Gonks]] with weird facial hairs, while females look like [[{{Moe}} adorable little girls]].

* GovernmentInExile: Thanks to Thermaplugg's schemes and the Troggs invading it, Gnomes have been forced to leave Gnomeregan and retreat in Ironforge, while still trying to recover their city. Starting with ''Cataclysm'', however, they start to get some success and recover at least part of it.

* EvilCannotComprehendGood: He cannot understand why the other gnomes didn't agree with his pla, of taking over half of Dun Morogh, which would have meant chasing the dwarves who have always been the Gnomes' closest allies and friends, and so refused to make him High Tinker and why they would continue to follow and trust Gelbin Mekkatorque despite the loss of Gnomeregan and death of so many gnomes here. The concept of being loyal to and accepting the help of the dwarves and other races of the Alliance instead of dominating them is also utterly alien to him.

* IgnoredEpiphany: In "Cut Short" he traps and confronts Mekkatorque with the intention to kill him. After a MotiveRant Gelbin calmy explains to him that he has always been grateful to him for his work but that despite his creative genius his lack of caution and rush of his work forced to have to correct Thermaplugg's work as it would have backfired hard without it. When a disbelieving Thermaplugg calls him a liar and asks him why he did let him take credit for the canons to the dwarves then to which Gelbin simply replies that it was because he was his friend. The response actually causes Thermaplugg's face to soften and to pauses for a few moments with Mekkatorque recognising in his face the gnome that he befriended a long time ago. The moment is short-lived as Sicco's insanity quickly catch-up with him.

* HoistByTheirOwnPetard: His own trap backfires spectacularly, [[spoiler:and ends up [[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe getting him cut in half]].]]

TrueCompanions: With the dwarves of Ironforge who have always been their closest allies and friends to the point that the two races consider themselves to be cousins (which isn't farfechted as the two races descend from titan-forged). This close bond dates from their first meetings as the dwarves helped the gnomes to build Gnomeregan by teaching them about stoneworking and construction while the gnomes helped the dwarves with their engineering and science. As such it isn't surprising that the dwarves offered refuge the gnomes into Ironforge after the loss of Gnomeregan and are their main support into retaking their capital.

The current High Tinker of the Gnomes, Geblin is a renowned inventor and is praised for his great intellect. However, during a terrible Trogg invasion, Geblin was forced to abandon the gnomes home city of Gnomergan after following the advice of his [[TreacherousAdvisor second-in-command]], Mekgineer Thermaplug, and unleashing a radiation bomb to stop the troggs. The fallout from the bomb made Gnomergan uninhabitable, and poisoned many of Mekkatorque's own subjects, turning them into hideous and insane Lepper Gnomes. To make matters worse, Thermaplugg took control of the city for himself and declared himself the new king.

That said, it is worth noting most of the Alliance's advanced technological weapons are also of Gnomish make, as any unlucky Horde on the recieving end of a Gyrocopter and/or Flying Machine squadron alongside an [[AirbroneAircraftCarrier Alliance Gunship]] can attest.

* BadassGrandpa: The white hair and bald head is evidence enough to his age.

* OffhandBackhand: At the Broken Shore, a felguard charges him from the side while he's transmitting his position to a gunship. Without seemingly even looking at the demon, his mecha's left arm changes into a cannon and shoots it in the face.
