* AdaptionalJobChange: In the original anime, Zaki was Zambojil's chien inspector. Due to his habit of sending exaggerated reports to the Emperor that lead to the ordered executions of many, he was despised by Heinel's aides, particularly Jangal. In ''Legacy'', this was changed to her being the chief researcher for Emperor Zambojil.

** Jamie is less confident and assertive than her anime counterpart, Megumi Oka. When Jamie is insulted or bullied, she usually cowers and doesn't stand up for herself (unless it's a case where her buttons are pushed too far, such as Eva trashing her room). When Megumi witnessed Ippei being rude to the Go brothers, she followed him to his room and demanded he tell her why he did that, going as far as to threaten to not give his whip back if he didn't.

* AdaptationalWimp: Yet at the same time, he's unable to resist Zuhl's mind-reading device like his original counterpart could, thus revealing to Zuhl his entire backstory...and the revelation of both of his identities being connected.

* BigDamnHeroes: Saves Zandra from Oslak's rape attempt by blasting at him, before screaming at him to never touch ehr again unless he wants Zardoz to deal with him personally.

* AdaptationalDyeJob: Heinel was a [[LightIsNotGood blonde]] {{bishounen}} in the original anime, but Zardoz has darker hair.

** AdaptationalJobChange: Megumi wasn't a medic (frankly, none of the Voltes team were. That was a job left to Big Falcon's staff). However, here, Jamie is responsible for monitoring her teammates' health conditions.

* AdaptationalAttractiveness: He is less uglier than Gurul and Zaki, the latter who looked inhuman.

* CompositeCharacter: He is a fusion of Duke Zaki and General Gurul in ''Legacy''.
* FatBastard: Zander is on the heavy side and enjoys lording his status as a noble affiliated with Zambojil over the hornless of Boazan. He's also his right hand.

* AdaptationalVillainy: This version of Zardoz is shown to be a lot crueler and more sadistic than his anime counterpart, torturing his subordinates with much more severity for their failures and at times even takes out his frustrations on slaves by murdering them on the spot. Of course, Heinel was no angel either, but he was a NobleDemon who treated his comrades with respect.

* FanDisservice: Zardoz's hairy chest during the sex scene.[[note]]Ironically, his anime counterpart plays the opposite trope -in some art books, Yuki Hijiri drew [[PrettyBoy Heinel]] nude as {{Fanservice}}.[[/note]]

* Gakamikiri is also excluded from ''Legacy'' [[spoiler: as Draco orders the Boazanian ships to find and shoot down the Mechanical Eagle, neutralizing the threat and fatally wounding its pilot, General Watson]].

** In the original anime, Heinel attended the Boazanian Institule of Science and Technology and became a great warrior. Here, to show us Zardoz's strength, they depict him besting a number of other Boazanian soldiers in combat.

* ThisCannotBe: He is surprised that [[spoiler: not only Steve Armstrong withstood the bullets he shot at him with his own pistol, his vial containing the microbes meant to afflict humans [[NoSell has no effect on Steve]] after exposing him to it to, realizing that the latter must be a hornless Boazanian]].

* MadeOfIron: Due to his [[spoiler: half-Boazanian heritage]], he is able to survive a bullet from Apable who shot him in the middle of final exam, endure several failed attempts of learning the Butterfly Return technique from Big Bert, and woke up with mild annoyance after being hit by a rock to the head by [[spoiler: Judy who did it to lead the pursuing Boazanian soldiers away and go into hiding]].

* NiceJobBreakingItHero: When Dr. Richard Smith orders Voltes Team to return to Camp Big Falcon that is under attack by Skull Ship, he insists on going after Vaizanger who seemingly disappeared from sight despite the protest and insistence of his brothers, Jamie Robinson and even Mark Gordon. As a result, Vaizanger was able to catch Voltes Team off guard by the chains and trap them in its hold, [[spoiler: which prompted Mary Ann to pilot a jet fighter and save her sons from the Beast Fighter at the cost of her own life.]]

** Daimon and Saimon are also excluded from ''Legacy'' as [[spoiler: a rebuilt Desler takes their place as the one subjected to the Ultra Electromagnetic Ball]].
** Daiand is so excluded from ''Legacy'' [[spoiler: but his ring form was used by Oslak to mind control Zandra and later Jamie Robinson]].

When Zandra informs him of the truth, he is shaken and upset as he draws his sword at her even when she is willing to risk her life of standing by her word that it is true. Although while he stands down after seeing Zandra is telling the truth, he assumes that's Baron Zander behind the sabotage plot instead of Zambojil]].

* VillainousBreakdown: He does this every time the plan to destroy Voltes V failed and punishes his generals or kill the hornless Boazanian servants to vent.

** Throughout ''Voltes V'''s earlier episodes, Kenichi had a habit of bringing out his gun in response to any conflict. He once pulled out the gun on [[CrossesTheLineTwice his own ten year old brother]] because he had the audacity to bring his RobotBuddy with the Team on a mission. When Hiyoshi cried and begged him to spare Tako, Kenichi gave him the gun and told him to shoot it instead. Fortunately, later episodes had Kenichi go through CharacterDevelopment and become a more empathetic person. Here, Steve doesn't do any of that.

** Downplayed with Zuhl. In the original anime, he shot down several ships of hornless Boazanian rebels who arrive on Earth. But here, he leaves them alone [[spoiler:after capturing Hrothgar's ship with the tractor beam of the Skull Ship]].

* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: [[spoiler: He quits Voltes Team and leaves Camp Big Falcon after finding out that Steve harbored feelings for Jamie the whole time, and Jamie still longs for Steve despite his apparent cold rejection and that she claims him as her boyfriend to spite Steve.
