** In the original anime, Hamaguchi forced Ippei to join the Voltes team by kidnapping him from the United States of America, while also disapproving of him keeping his horse around as he "had no need for it". In ''Legacy'', Mark joins Big Falcon consensually and still has his horse.
** In the original anime, Heinel and Katherine were [[ChildhoodFriendRomance childhood friends]], after an incident where latter saw him being bullied and felt protective of him. But in ''Legacy'', he only meets her after Zambojil assigns her as an aide to him.
* AdaptationalJerkass: While most of the cast got hit by AdaptationalNiceGuy, a few of them had their {{Jerkass}} traits exaggerated.
** In the anime, Ippei would sometimes act like an insensitive jerk towards his fellow pilots, but was also quick to patch things up with them and for the most part treated them with respect and camaraderie. This version of Ippei (Mark), in contrast, is a massive douchebag who keeps taking out his insecurities on the Armstrong brothers, needlessly antagonizing them for the pettiest reasons and even actively provokes Little John, [[WouldHurtAChild a young boy]], into getting physical with him over something he started. His treatment of Jamie isn't any better, rudely insulting and disrespecting her whenever she tries to offer him advice instead of merely teasing her like he did in the anime.
** While both Zandra and Katherine looked down on humans, Katherine had no issue with the invasion and was JustFollowingOrders while Zandra is eager to participate in Prince Zardoz's conquest of ''Terra Erthu''.
** Oscar has Mark and Steve humiliated in front of Bert and forced to do push-ups until they dropped because he heard a rumour they were attracted to his daughter.
** Bert sells out his brother and Mark to Oscar for steak. Later, Steve and Mark get {{Revenge}} on him by dragging him out of the EDF base, implying an UncertainDoom in store for him.
** Steve lacks Kenichi's ThouShaltNotKill attitude towards the Boazanians and when Zardoz is laying in front of him, Steve brandishes his sword, saying that to rid the world of evil and avenge his mother, he must kill Zardoz. In comparision, Kenichi had compassion for the Prince in spite of everything and believed he still deserved to be treated humanely in spite of all he's done.[[note]]This could be due to the Philippine-English dub of the anime putting Kenichi through the DubPersonalityChange (see that page for the context) to make him more vengeful - in the original Japanese version, after learning of his Boazanian origins, he states that he is shocked, while the Philippine-English dub changes it to stating that he will avenge General Watson.[[/note]]

** On the other hand, it changes them to have a Middle Eastern influence. Belgan's headdress seems to be Middle Eastern inspired. Zaki's aides also appear to be two women that dress in a style that resembles the hijab.
* AdaptationalNiceGuy: Everyone gets a dose of this.
** In the original anime, Hamaguchi had Ippei kidnapped in broad daylight and forced him to be the pilot for the Volt Bomber against his will. Hamaguchi also had him separated from [[CoolHorse Eiffel]], his OnlyFriend, for years. When the two were finally reunited, Ippei decided to give Hamaguchi the finger and escape Big Falcon with Eiffel. To convince him to stay, Kenichi ''threatened to shoot Eiffel with his gun''. He chased after Ippei and Eiffel, still threatening them with his gun, and fired a warning shot that almost hit Eiffel. This continued until they were interrupted by the [[MonsterOfTheWeek Beast Fighter that put Eiffel's life in danger]], after which Ippei realized the importance of his position as a Voltes pilot. After Kenichi saved Eiffel, Ippei gained a newfound respect for him and the two became good friends. Here, Mark Gordon was conscripted by the Voltes Team training program and allowed to bring Alpha along, and Dr. Smith was supportive of him as a father figure who tells him not to self-doubt his potential.
** Throughout ''Voltes V'''s earlier episodes, Kenichi had a habit of bringing out his gun in response to any conflict. He once pulled out the gun on [[CrossesTheLineTwice his own ten year old brother]][[invoked]] because he had the audacity to bring his RobotBuddy with the Team on a mission. When Hiyoshi cried and begged him to spare Tako, Kenichi gave him the gun and told him to shoot it instead. Fortunately, later episodes had Kenichi go through CharacterDevelopment and become a more empathetic person. Here, Steve doesn't do any of that.
** Little Jon's anime counterpart, Hiyoshi Goh, was introduced fighting a shark underwater with a knife as part of his training. Here, he instead rides a dolphin to better emphasize his love for the ocean.
** In the original anime, Mitsuyo thought nothing of allowing Hiyoshi to pilot the Volt Frigate, but in ''Legacy'', her counterpart Mary Anne is vehemently against the idea due to his age.
** The Voltes team don't make (the arguably sexist) comments about how Megumi should "play with dolls" and laugh at her while she's injured.
** Downplayed with Zambojil. His counterpart in the anime was a sole agent, but in ''Legacy'', he was encouraged to steal the throne by his mother, who was bitter about not being recognized as the Emperor's wife.
** In the original anime, Heinel was a {{Tsundere}} to Katherine, while his live-action counterpart, Zardoz, is openly affectionate towards the woman he loves. Heinel also had no qualms about murdering children, but Zardoz listens to Steve when he begs him to let Little John go.
** Downplayed with Negg. Unlike the original run, Negg doesn't go out of its way to unnecessarily destroy all the model boats before proceeding with Little Jon and the other humans in the harbor.
** Downplayed with Zuhl. In the original anime, he shot down several ships of hornless Boazanian rebels who arrive on Earth. But here, he leaves them alone [[spoiler:after capturing Hrothgar's ship with the tractor beam of the Skull Ship, as his mission is to capture Hrothgar, not to obliterate any opposition on sight]].
** Marquise Zaki seemed to genuinely love Takeo and Arisa and defended them from Zardoz's wrath. [[spoiler: She even honoured them after their execution.]] In contrast, Marquis Zaki was only interested in sucking up to Emperor Zambajil and threw a liquor all oraver Heinel to humiliate him.
* GratuitousEnglish: While the show is in Tagalog, there are many moments where characters will slip into English, or a mixture of Tagalong and English, particularly Steve, Mark and Dr. Hook.
* NamedInTheAdaptation:
** The mother of Baron Hrothgar is named Fadsa, but in the original anime Prince Gohl's mother was never named, even in supplementary material.
** Zambojil's mother is named Contessa, while in the original anime, she was simply referred to as "Concubine".
** Averted for the previous Emperor of Boazan as he was simply known as [[EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep "Emperor"]] in the closing credits.

However, when the Boazanian invasion happened, only Steve and Big Bert Armstrongs, Mark Gordon and Jamie Robinson are present in the base while Eva Sanchez, Ally Chan, Tomas del Rosario and PJ Santiago were on a day off in the mainland after sneaking out. This results in Little Jon filling in the vacant fifth spot in the Voltes Team and General Robinson disqualifying Eva and her fellow candidates from the training program.
* HomeBase: Camp Big Falcon is this and it's set up on a [[IslandBase bird-shaped island]] where the Voltes Team lives there with their own personal rooms and training grounds, and the Volt Machines are stored inside.
* MissionControl: The personnel of Camp Big Falcon at the command center are this, providing intel and overseeing the status of Voltes V in battle with a Beast Fighter in every engagement with Dr. Smith ([[spoiler:before his death and Dr. Hook taking his place]]) and his second in command Chief Kelly leading them. On the other hand, Camp Big Falcon also have a cadre of engineers who repair and maintain the Volt Machines in top condition, and doctors and nurses who ensure the well being of Voltes Team and the base personnel.
* RedShirtArmy: The soldiers of the Earth Defense Force in Camp Big Falcon are this as they get shot down by Boazanian forces when deployed to try to stop them until Voltes V is deployed and formed.

When he returned, he's already mastered many fighting styles, with his favorite weapon being the naginata and [[MartialArtsStaff bo staff]]. Like his brothers, he further trained himself to eventually engage in the battle for humanity against the Boazanians.

* AdaptationalComicRelief: Half of Bert's appearances in the show can be summed up as "he's fat". His weight is a constant source of mockery in almost every episode, to the point him not binge eating was treated as a OOCIsSeriousBusiness in-universe by Steve. Bert's addiction to food is so severe that when the vending machine doesn't give him food, he attempts to beat it with a chair (only for Jamie to stop him, critisize him and buy him the food herself). If there's a scene with Bert and Jamie in it, expect Bert to do something oafish while Jamie plays the role of TheComicallySerious.
* AdaptationalPersonalityChange: Daijirou was a GentleGiant with a HiddenHeartOfGold who loved dogs and piloting. Bert is a SadClown who constantly mocks himself because of his weight, views himself as a failure and a DisappointingOlderSibling to Jon and is willing to humiliate his own brother and teammate if it means getting a bite to eat.
* BigEater: Is shown eating a lot during breakfast in "Destiny to Fullfill" and excusing it as a need for energy before Steve shows the bullet he survived from. He's been shown eating a lot when he goes out, and has even sometimes brought home a lot of takeout food back to base.
