** Unusually, this goes both ways, in that Greater Dog introduces itself from its snow poff by sticking its head and tail out, then giving a couple of high pitched, yappy barks, which make it look cute...until it reveals that it somehow hid its entire massive body underneath the snow. This makes it seem like a squeaky-voiced titan instead.

* PetTheDog:
** The citizens of Snowdin have noticed his plight and dedicated a tradition to him where they decorate a big tree and put presents underneath it. Gyftrot doesn't appreciate the sentiment, especially since they haven't actually helped him at all.

Doggo, Lesser Dog, Greater Dog, Dogamy and Dogaressa (the latter two often being called the "Dogi"). A series of armored dogs guarding the path from the Ruins to Snowdin.
----
* AchievementsInIgnorance: Lesser Dog can be found at Grillby's playing a game of Poker against itself. And ''losing''. By the PlayableEpilogue, it finally manages to beat itself.
* AdmiringTheAbomination: In the True Pacifist Ending, Doggo has no problems at all with his long-lost relative. [[spoiler:Said relative is Endogeny, who is more or less an undead blob monster, and Doggo's happy that he can see it since it's constantly moving.]]
* AnAxeToGrind: Dogamy and Dogaressa wield giant axes that have eyes on them. They slam them down for one of their attacks.
* BattleCouple: Dogamy and Dogaressa are married.
* BigFriendlyDog: Greater Dog is gigantic and intimidating, but all it wants is some TLC, and will gladly leave you alone when it gets some.
* BladeOnAStick: The Greater Dog's weapon. It even has a dog face on it! Lesser Dog uses them to attack, but it holds a sword in its battle sprite.
* BossRemix: The song that plays during Greater Dog's fight is the regular fight theme re-orchestrated using dog barks from the ''VideoGame/MarioPaint'' soundfont.
* CanisMajor: Greater Dog. [[spoiler:Subverted when it turns out it's just a sort-of big dog riding around in a disproportionately large suit of armor.]]
* DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment: Lesser Dog has six Act options; "Check", "Pet", "Pet", "Pet", "Pet", and "Pet". Hmm, how could it possibly be Spared...
* DogsAreDumb: Varies. Lesser Dog and Greater Dog have the mental capabilities only slightly higher than a non-anthropomorphic dog (although the latter [[spoiler:''is'' a non-anthro dog]]). Doggo is smarter, but his inability to see unmoving things hampers him, and he thinks the former two dogs are much smarter than they actually are. The Dogi seem to be the smartest overall, but even they aren't too complicated, allowing you to fool them into thinking that you're some kind of puppy if you roll around in the snow.
* DualBoss: Dogamy and Dogaressa, reflected by their attacks having two parts. Depending on which one you kill first if you decide to kill them, the other will change their attacks based on their reaction to the other's death.
* EvilDetectingDog:
** The Dogi have great noses when it comes to smelling for potential human intruders, which is why they attack you in the first place. Fortunately, wallowing in the dirt will get rid of the human scent and help when Sparing them.
** Doggo can't see things that are standing still, with one exception; [[spoiler:he will feel something very ''wrong'' and become afraid when the player approaches him on a No Mercy run. This is the first true sign of how the player's KillingIntent works, and it may be that he can detect the Fallen Child's control over them]].
* GentleGiant: The Greater Dog is described as such when spoken about in Grillby's, and if played with and petted is more than content to lie down in the Child's lap... while wearing its hulking suit of armor.
* GoFetch: [[spoiler:Use the Stick on any of them, and they'll run after it, allowing them to be Spared instantly.]]
* GratuitousJapanese: When you pet Doggo, the word WAN floats around him as he freaks out. 'Wan' is the Japanese onomatopoeia for dog barking.
* TheGuardsMustBeCrazy: While none of them are weak, they seem to have a hard time actually guarding anything, thanks to their dog instincts. Papyrus comments on it while talking about Lesser Dog in one phone call.
-->'''Papyrus:''' This dog loves to be pet. That's its defining personality trait. Wait, why are they a Royal Guard and not me!?
* HappilyMarried: The Dogi. One of the battle comments is that they are "saying sickingly sweet things to each other".
* HeroicBSOD: Killing Dogaressa will cause Dogamy to become depressed and his attacks becoming completely impotent. On the flipside, Dogaressa slips into an UnstoppableRage and gets even more powerful if Dogamy is killed.
* IncestIsRelative: [[spoiler:Since all the dog's parents were fused together to from the Endogeny Amalgamate, Dogamy and Dogaressa ponder the implications of how they are technically related now. They dismiss it because it is common among dogs.]]
* {{Keet}}: Lesser Dog, who gets excited when you pet him. Really, ''really'' excited.
* LivingMotionDetector: Doggo can ''only'' see things that are moving, a point very much stressed in the early-game to teach you about blue attacks.
* LongNeck: Most of the humor value of a pacifist Lesser Dog encounter. The more you pet it, the more its neck telescopes out.
* MiniBoss: All of them are unique and are required encounters. Only the Dogi and Greater Dog take much effort to Spare or Fight, however.
* MyFriendsAndZoidberg: Lesser Dog seems to be the Zoidberg of the Dog group. None of the other dogs mention him, he appears as a random encounter enemy, and if killed no one comments on it (conversely, if he's the only one left the Red Bird in Grillby's still wonders where all the dogs have gone). [[spoiler:He's also the only dog not to meet Endogeny at the end of the game, he's still inside playing poker against himself.]]
* NoSmoking: PlayedForLaughs (considering smoking occurs elsewhere in the game), Doggo has a fondness for smoking...dog treats, of all things.
* NotSoStoic: Doggo seems pretty serious when you first meet him... and then you pet him, and anything that made him imposing vanishes.
* OverlyLongGag: Lesser Dog's neck-stretching gag can go on for a ''very'' long time and yield unique lines long after you can Spare it.
* PunchClockVillains: Once the player reaches Snowdin, they can all be found hanging out at Grillby's, and don't seem to care at all that you're there.
* PunnyName:
** "Dogaressa" is the female form of "doge". "Italian ruler" doge, mind you, not ''[[MemeticMutation that]]'' doge.
** "Dogamy" is a pun on the suffix "-gamy" being used for different types of marriage (monogamy, polygamy, etc.), as Dogamy and Dogaressa are married.
** A subtler one in Doggo's case - "doggo" is somewhat archaic slang meaning "to remain motionless and quiet to escape detection." (i.e., exactly what you need to do when facing Doggo.)
** In a very downplayed example, Lesser Dog's 'dogger' is made of 'pomer-granite'.
* RealMenWearPink: Doggo, the most threatening of the dogs in appearance, wears a pink shirt with a dog face on it.
* RummageSaleReject: In contrast with his squadmates (who wear armor or cloaks), Doggo wears a ridiculous outfit of a pink sleeveless shirt with a dog face on it and leopard-print pants. Fans tend to agree that his inability to see still objects causes him to wear things like this.
* StealthPun: They're guard dogs.
* SayingSoundEffectsOutLoud: {{Unsound Effect}}s, rather. Lesser Dog's speech, if one can call it that, consists of sounds spoken out loud, like "pant pant" or "excited noises." As you keep petting it, it starts making sounds that no dog can or should make, including "plane takeoff" and "kettle whistling".
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: If you ignore Greater Dog for several turns, he will leave out of boredom.
* SickeninglySweethearts: The Dogi are said to call eachother overly cute names during battle.
* ThemeNaming: All of them have "Dog" in their names. [[spoiler:This carries over to Endogeny late in the game.]]
* TopHeavyGuy: Greater Dog, whose chest and arms are gigantic compared to its positively tiny head and legs. [[spoiler:Except that it's actually just a regular sized dog in some sort of pilotable armor.]]
* UniqueEnemy: Lesser Dog, unlike the other dogs, is fought in a random encounter on one screen. He's otherwise still a mini-boss, albeit one of the simplest ones.
* VocalDissonance: The Greater has a very deep bark, [[spoiler:which is fitting for the kind of person who would normally wear armor as big as he does, but not for the average-sized dog he actually is.]]
* WeaksauceWeakness: Petting plays a significant role in scoring a Pacifist victory against all of them. [[spoiler:They're also all vulnerable to a thrown stick.]]
* WeaponsGradeVocabulary: One of the Greater Dog's attacks is a tiny sleeping dog that, if woken up by moving, will send damaging "BARK"s at your SOUL.
* WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway: Doggo is really good at sensing motion. And that's literally the ''only'' thing he can see, so anyone standing perfectly still is completely invisible to him (and this is reflected in his attacks, which are all of the blue variety and can be avoided by standing still.)

[[caption-width-right:124:Sorry... for NOTHING *ollies*]]

Glyde is thinking of new slang for the word "cool". like [[TotallyRadical "Freakadicious."]]
----
* AttentionWhore: Worse than Ice Cap, even. To Spare him, you have to deliberately deny him attention after giving him some.
* BonusBoss: Considering he's as much an easter egg as he is an actual enemy, defeating Glyde isn't acknowledged in any way besides the money you obtain.
* BossInMooksClothing: Doesn't have a unique battle theme and doesn't take that long to defeat, but he's effectively invincible, deals a lot more damage than anything else in the area, and is difficult to find on your own.
* MetalSlime: Effectively. He only appears in a single room, and even than with a very low encounter rate, but is easily the most lucrative single enemy in the game to spare.
* TotallyRadical: He ''weaponizes'' this trope, thanks to his attack explosions turning into "cool" words.
* WeaponsGradeVocabulary: His larger projectiles explote into words like "Nicey" and "Chill".

This humble germophobe seeks to cleanse the whole world.
----
* HelpfulMook: Enforced. You have to get him to Clean you (that is, send an attack with two or three bullets healing you instead) to spare him.
* NeatFreak: ''Extremely'' obsessed with cleanliness, to the point that letting him clean you (as extrapolated above) is the only way to spare him.
* OnlyFriend: Implied to (rather reluctantly) be this to Aaron.
* OutDamnedSpot: Randomly says this trope near-verbatim. ("out, darned spot!")
* PunnyName: More like Wash-you-a.
* TrueCompanions: The bird is his best friend.
* YouMonster: Will potentially call your ''SOUL'' unclean if you've killed anyone.

[[caption-width-right:126:CHECK all you want! ; )]]

A large, muscular monster who is disliked by other monsters.
----
* CharacterDevelopment: After the event where he's scared by Napstablook's music, he will leave battles when shooed away.
* CharacterTics: He's always winking, even when he's scared.
* {{Expy}}: A muscular horse-based creature that prominently sweats? [[Webcomic/{{Homestuck}} Sounds familiar]], and given Toby Fox's past work, probably not coincidental.
* OccultDetective: [[spoiler:He becomes inspired into becoming an paranormal investigator if he gets spooked by Napstablook's songs.]]
* {{Emoticon}}: He uses these while talking, possibly to heighten his obnoxiousness ;)
* IronicHell: He considers the cavern being filled with spooky music to be this for being obnoxious.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: He's disliked by most other monsters in Waterfall. Temmies will leave if he shows up, Shyren avoids him. Woshua barely tolerates him.
* TheMissingno: If a hacker tries to hack in one of the unfinished monster battles, any sprites that the monster is supposed to have but doesn't is replaced by a matching one from Aaron.
* TestosteronePoisoning: He's very muscular and loves to show himself off. You spare him by flexing, which he then turns into a flex-off...and flexes himself right off the screen.

[[caption-width-right:148: se re, se re se mi se mi]]

Tone-deaf. She's too ashamed to sing her deadly song.
----
* ActuallyFourMooks: The monster you meet in combat is actually two entities. Shyren herself is only the 'head' of the monster and her 'body' is an un-named monster (in the files its named shyren_agent, suggesting that it's her talent agent). This is supported in the [[http://www.fangamer.com/products/undertale-poster-mettaton official Mettaton Live poster]].
* FlyingSeafoodSpecial: She 'swims' effortlessly in the air.
* FriendshipSong: If you continuously hum to her, you become very famous and good friends.
* ShrinkingViolet: She's exceedingly shy. The player can help her get over her insecurities by continuously humming to her.
* UniqueEnemy: There's only one encounter with her, but unlike a miniboss, she's no more difficult than your average random encounter. Despite this, three of them appear in New Home.

----
* HatesBeingTouched: You spare it through the 'Unhug' command.
* MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch: It's a Moldsmal that has strict personal boundaries, instead of sexily wiggling all the time.
* SpreadShot: A bizarre ''inversion''; it can do a reversed version of Moldsmal's exploding bullet, with eight bullets combining into one and flying upwards.
* UndergroundMonkey: A more powerful Moldsmal. In fact, it appears to be a Moldsmal at first before erupting from the ground.

FUTILE!]]

A dummy that hates boring people.
----
* ChekhovsGunman: It's the cousin of the Training Dummy in the Ruins, and its reason for attacking you relates to how you handled the fight with it.
* DeadlyDodging: You can only hurt it with its own bullets, which come from other dummies that it summons.
* DeathByIrony: [[spoiler: He spends the whole fight trying to kill you out of revenge for how you treated his cousin, sort of. In the No Mercy route, he's so furious at the player's brutal attack that the raw anger causes his spirit to bond with the dummy, making him corporeal and perfectly killable for the first time.]]
* DisproportionateRetribution: Its reason for trying to attack you if you wasted time until the Training Dummy flew away? You're really boring, and boring people don't deserve to live.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: It's pretty much the only monster in the Underground without a shred of decency, it's immortal, it throws knives as a desperation attack, and frequently shouts one word or phrase three times in a row that either directly means or is a synonym of "useless". [[spoiler: ''[[Anime/JoJosBizarreAdventure MUDA MUDA MUDAAA!]]'' ]]
* {{Jerkass}}: It pretends it's attacking you to avenge its cousin, but that's just an excuse. Really, it just wants the player character's soul for its own selfish ends. Never shows remorse for it, either.
* KnifeNut: Once it gets tired of getting HoistByHisOwnPetard, it will try to throw knives at you. [[spoiler:It only has one though]].
--> '''Mad Dummy''': I DON'T NEED FRIENDS!!! I'VE GOT KNIVES!!!
* LaughingMad: Naturally. He truly breaks into this after his last attack, cackling loudly to the point that his separate pieces start to fly apart out of a combination of anger and borderline craziness.
* MeanBoss: To say that he's upset at his mini-dummies for accidentally shooting him is putting it lightly. He fires all of them ''mid-battle'' because he's sick of getting shot by them.
* MechaMooks: It will eventually dismiss the regular bullet dummies for hitting it instead of you, causing it to replace them with robotic dummies that fire homing projectiles instead (they're not much better though).
* MiniBoss: Has more pomp and circumstance than a regular enemy, but doesn't have an effect on the overall plot.
* MisguidedMissile: In its second phase, the missiles its dummies fire must be redirected so they can hit the Mad Dummy. These missiles stop tracking you after a few seconds and continue flying off; this is required to hit it because the missiles usually don't leave the range of your SOUL's movement.
* NighInvulnerability: Being a ghost possessing a dummy, it is immune to physical attacks. [[spoiler:Subverted in a No Mercy run, where it manages to become one with the dummy through sheer anger, thus making him corporeal enough to hit]].
* NoSell: Hit it with your own attack and it'll just rebuild itself, no worse for wear.
* PuzzleBoss: It's immune to physical attacks (since he's a ghost) and refuses to back down and let you spare it. The only way to progress is to trick it into hitting itself with its own magic projectiles.
* RuleOfThree: He tends to repeat his words three times before he makes any progress, this even drips into his song (a remix of Napstablook's theme) which constantly repeats cords three times before continuing on with the song.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere:
** Finally decides he had enough [[spoiler:when Napstablook cries their magic tears on him]].
** In a No Mercy run, [[spoiler:the Glad Dummy will make the same kind of exit as the standard Dummy if you fool around too much. One of the less obvious ways to cancel a No Mercy run without resetting.]]
* SuddenlyShouting: His speech pattern goes from normally voiced, louder and finally ALL IN CAPS.
* TacticalSuicideBoss: His attacks are the only reason he can be hurt. To his credit, he realizes this and changes up his attacks twice in an attempt to avert it. [[spoiler:However, all of his good attacks are the ones he can be hurt by; the one that can't hurt him (his knife) only has one shot, and the battle ends after he uses it.]]
* VerbalTic: Repeating himself three times, each getting progressively louder, is his Verbal Tic. Even referenced in his battle theme where certain lines repeat themselves 3 times before carrying on with the rest of the song.

----
* BettyAndVeronica: As a joke, when fighting a Tsunderplane and a Vulkin, they will be introduced like this.
* HelpfulMook: An inversion of the "accidentally-assisting" type. It ''wants'' to help you, but isn't particularly effective at it...
* MagmaMan: It believes that its lava can heal people (it can't).
* ShockAndAwe: Weirdly enough, despite being a living volcano, it has an attack where it summons a smiling cloud to rain down lightning bolts on you.
** This is because of a possible Genius Bonus. Any particlate cloud of sufficient size can create lightning, due to charge built up in the cloud. This include ash clouds from volcanos, which tend to be called 'dirty lightning'.
* VideoGameCaringPotential: Two of the three ways to spare it is to encourage it (making its attacks harder to dodge) or hug it (reducing your defense). Alternatively...
* VideoGameCrueltyPotential: You can tell it that it's attacks aren't helpful at all, lessening his attack, but leaving the poor thing heartbroken, and if you do it again he runs away crying.

Seems mean, but does it secretly like you?
----
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: It can be coaxed into blurting out its feelings in the midst of battle.
* ClingyJealousGirl: If paired up with a Vulkin during battle:
--> Tsunderplane attacks! Not because it's jealous Vulkin is paying attention to you!
* DeathFromAbove: One of its attacks is to send planes that drop firebombs at you.
* DefeatEqualsExplosion: Its unique among monsters in that it wll explode instead of fading away.
* MasterOfTheMixedMessage: A news ticker in a Mettaton section says that it gave a cashier hours of confusion by telling him it "didn't want to buy these products or anything."
* IncredibleShrinkingMan: When spared, Tsunderplane will become tiny in the upper right corner of the screen. Vulkin insists she does this all the time.
* InLoveWithLove: Tsunderplane claims to have this in the epilogue to excuse its earlier attempts to get closer to you.
* LateForSchool: In a parody of a common anime romance trope, the epilogue mentions at some point it was late flying to school and bumped into someone while having toast in its mouth.
* KilledMidSentence:
--> ''"B-but I never got to...!"''
* PunnyName: Tsund-Airplane.
* {{Tsundere}}: Obviously. It's basically a walking collection of tsundere tropes and stock phrases.

This mischievous monster is never warm enough.
----
* CartoonBomb: Drops them in one of its attacks. They even explode into a cartoon "BOOM".
* TheDividual: If two appear at once, they are called "The rare and threatening Double Davis."
* FireOfComfort: You can turn up the temperature to make Pyrope happy at the cost of making their attacks more powerful. Oddly enough, this applies to the player as well, since his fire is completely harmless as long as the player's soul keeps moving.
* InterfaceScrew: Should you turn the heat up, the screen wiggles in a heat haze. This gets worse the more you turn the heat up.
* MeaningfulName: Pyro + Rope = Pyrope. Not to be confused with [[Webcomic/{{Homestuck}} Terezi Pyrope]], or the gemstone pyrope (the name was most likely taken from the former, due to Toby Fox's work on ''Homestuck'').
* ViolationOfCommonSense: The only way to avoid his attacks is to aim your soul through the fire instead of avoiding it.

Guards. Royal ones.
----
* BlackKnight: In appearance if not demeanor thanks to their glossy dark armor, large swords, and face-concealing helmets. Ultimately, however, 01 is a loud frat boy and 02 is his shy wallflower friend.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: They're only referred to as "01" and "02," even when speaking to each other!
* {{Fratbro}}: 01's characterization, being mostly this with a dash of SurferDude thanks to his constant use of the words 'like' and 'bro.'
* LikeIsLikeAComma: 01 has a habit of saying "like" when it isn't necessary.
* ManlyGay: If 01's interactions with 02 say anything. Humorously, [[BadassGay Undyne]] of all people seems to be completely oblivious to it if you call her in the area they're fought, referring to their "platonic friendship."
* PettingZooPeople: It's pretty hard to tell at first glance, especially since they're wearing all-encompassing armor, but 01 has [[RighteousRabbit rabbit ears]] and 02 has [[DraconicHumanoid draconic fins on the sides of his head and his chest is covered in scales]]. If you call Undyne standing in the area where you fight them she confirms them as a rabbit and a dragon.
* TheQuietOne: 02, who just mumbles things and sighs where 01 is shouty and enthusiastic.
* TogetherInDeath: If they are killed. Checking them in No Mercy nets this dialogue: "I see two lovers staring over the edge of the cauldron of hell. Do they both wish for death? That means their love will end in hell. I couldn't stop laughing."
* WalkingShirtlessScene: 02 gets very hot and sweaty during your fight and decides to take off the top of his armor. [[EatingTheEyeCandy This makes 01 very nervous]].

* {{Adorkable}}: A clumsy, nervous, constantly-apologizing artist that's constantly ShyFingerTwiddling, and is a cute, chubby, floppy-eared dragon wearing a vest and a bowler hat.
* AuthorAvatar: Of one of the Kickstarter backers.
* ApologeticAttacker: He's not even trying to attack you; his "attacks" are just being generally clumsy in his attempts to draw you a picture, with a tail strike or tossing paper around. As if his name wasn't a more obvious indication.
* ArtInitiatesLife: He's an artist with a magic pencil, but accidentally draws some monsters that come to life in an attempt to draw a picture of you.
* BleachedUnderpants: Outside of ''Undertale'', he appears in a lot of fat-fetish art. There's zero indication of this in his appearance here. [[RuleOfCautiousEditingJudgement We're not judging, though]]; like Sans says, [[FurryFandom people who like hot animals]] keep people like Toby in business.
* BonusBoss: One that's so out of the way it's extremely unlikely you'll find him of your own volition.
* BreakingTheFourthWall: Reduce his health to a certain amount and he'll try to persuade you not to kill him because he doesn't even give out enough EXP to level you up at level 1. [[spoiler: He's right. He only gives one EXP.]]
* TheCameo: One of several characters added to the game by a Kickstarter backer.
* FixedDamageAttack: Inverted. All ''your'' attacks do exactly 1/11 of his HP.
* FlunkyBoss: He'll accidentally summon a few crudely drawn monsters partway through the fight, though they can be sent away easily.
* GuideDangIt: Reaching So Sorry requires having your computer's time set to a ''very'' specific setting and going through the secret path that opens up in a specific place. It is ''very'' unlikely to have this happen by accident.
* HolidayMode: Wears different hats based on the date. Fighting him at all also requires a specific date and time.
%%* NiceHat: Several of them, chosen randomly based on when you fight him.
* OnlyKnownByHisNickname: He does ''have'' a real name, being a preexisting character, but that information isn't anywhere in the game. This might be to avoid family-unfriendly Google associations.

* SamusIsAGirl: You wouldn't be able to determine her gender if it weren't for the flavor text describing her swinging her weapon around.

This cobrafied carrot has a headful of tasty snakes.
----
* AnthropomorphicFood: It's still a vegetable, albeit only in the loosest sense.
* EatTheDog: Bizarrely, this is still an option. (The protagonist will ''slurp the snakes up like spaghetti.'')
* EdibleAmmunition: Similar to asking Vegetoid for "Dinner," you can ask it for "Snacks"... which it will mishear as "Snakes." You can still eat the green one, though.
* HardModePerks: Only appears in Hard Mode.
* {{Medusa}}: Has snakes for "hair" instead of leaves, anyway.
* {{Sssssnaketalk}}: A few of its lines are this, as seen in the quote above.
* UndergroundMonkey: A more powerful version of Vegetoid.

Can't decide on a face.
----
* BlobMonster: Notably more humanoid than the other blob-shaped monsters.
* HardModePerks: Only appears in Hard Mode.
* UndergroundMonkey: Another variant on Moldsmal.
* WingdingEyes: Takes this trope to the logical extreme with an entire Wingding Face. Since its facial features are constantly shifting around, you have to help it settle on a face to spare it.

This messed-up clownbug thinks battle's a performance.
----
* HardModePerks: Only appears in Hard Mode.
* MonsterClown: Literally a monster who also happens to be a clown. It drops the goofy facade if it's the only monster remaining in battle.
* StepfordSmiler: It pretends to be happy in the presence of other monsters, but as soon as they leave, they show their sadness. Apparently, it laughs to hide its pain.
* UndergroundMonkey: A more powerful version of Migosp.
