* OurVampiresAreDifferent: An artificial vampire created through magical experiments to replicate the [[VampireMonarch High Daylight Walkers]]. She overcome most weaknesses, can go under the sun without troubles, and can ear normal food, but remains an undead, ageless, blood-drinking immortal.

* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Being a High Daylight Walker means he's an advanced lifeform with godlike power and Nikitis won't stop rubbing it in the face of the inferior species. Yet, this is entirely PlayedForLaughs, with Akamastsu clearly having a blast.

* TheChampion: He eventually gets the resolve to defeat the Lifemaker and save the world for Yukihime's sake. He admits he doesn't have any interest in being a hero; he just wants to create a world where Yukihime can be happy.

* ClonesArePeopleToo: Those who know Touta is a clone of Negi don't treat him any different from a normal person. Only villains like Fate and the Lifemaker's faction think of Touta as a tool for their plans.

** Being the possessor of the [[AntiMagic White of Mars]] makes him the cornerstone of the BigBad's plan, which is why the Lifemaker's faction wants to capture him.

* MixAndMatchMan: Touta is an ArtificialHuman who was created from the combined the genetic material of Negi Springfield and Asuna Kagurazaka, thus he has both Negi's Magia Erebea and Asuna's Magic Cancel that are needed to destroy the Lifemaker. This is {{exaggerated|trope}} in the final episode of the anime where it's revealed Touta was created using the DNA of ''all of 3-A'', including the RobotGirl Chachamaru and the CuteGhostGirl Sayo.

** [[spoiler: His plan to defeat the Lifemaker is essentially the same his father used to defeat Ialda in the GoldenEnding timeline of Negima, if a tad more unpolished (strike Ialda at the heart, use time stop to prevent her from possessing him, destroy her using Magic Cancel and revive the host using a healing spell/potion).]]

* ActuallyNotAVampire: Despite being known as a Shinso/True Ancestor vampire, Yukihime identifies herself as a fake High Daylight Walker, not even near the caliber of the real deal. The truth is she's a human girl who was made immortal through the Lifemaker's experiments, using the Nobility of the true High Daylight Walkers as a reference. The real vampires are something completely different from Yukihime; the potent HealingFactor is about all they have in common.
* AnchoredShip: Bordering on ShipSinking. She rejects Touta's LoveConfession a second time by telling him she can't move on with anyone as long as Negi is still possessed by the Lifemaker. Yukihime explicitly doesn't want Touta to wait for her and encourages his potential romance with Kirie, but Touta doesn't feel like moving forward with any other possible relationship because he's still hung up on his feelings for Yukihime's past self.

* CartwrightCurse: Nagi, who she loved, was possessed by the Lifemaker. She eventually fell in love with Negi, but he also ended up being possessed by Ialda. She tries to keep Touta away from danger, who turns out to be her FirstLove due to time travel shenanigans, for this reason.

* DayWalkingVampire: {{Subverted|Trope}}. Despite bearing the title of High Daylight Walker, Yukihime reveals she's not a real vampire in the first place.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: Despite not participating in the plot except for special occasions, Yukihime is just as relevant to the MythArc as Touta is. Once the Life-Maker becomes a more present threat, a lot of time is used to explore Yukihime's origins and the circumstances that gave her the misconceived reputation of an evil mage. She also has the deepest connection to both Touta and Negi and just like the two of them, she's directly linked to the BigBad as the Lifemaker was the one who made Yukihime immortal.

* EternalLove: Yukihime fell in love with Negi after he became immortal like her and he reciprocated those feelings. Yukihime suggested him to forget all about the problems of mortals and spend eternity together with her as fellow members of the "Monster Club", but he turned her down to do everything he could to defeat the Lifemaker.

* FromNobodyToNightmare: Yukihime was originally a simple peasant girl until the Lifemaker made her into an artificial High Daylight Walker and mages from the Magic World burned her hometown to the ground. In a matter of a few centuries, she became one of the most powerful and feared mages in existence.

* HeartbrokenBadass: She might be a powerful 700-year-old sorceress, but Yukihime is deeply heartbroken by Negi, the man she fell in love with, being trapped in a FateWorseThanDeath as the Lifemaker's host.

* IHateYouVampireDad: She has some very bad blood with the Lifemaker, the one who took her away from her family and turned her into a vampire through some immortality experiments.

* IJustWantToBeLoved: In a moment of vulnerability, she admits that she dearly wishes for someone that could "walk with her under the blue sky forever". Originally, that person was Touta, her FirstLove via TimeTravel. Later, she wanted to be loved by Nagi and then by Negi, but they were possessed by the Lifemaker. Ironically, now that she's in the same time period as Touta, Yukihime is too hung up on Negi to accept Touta's love she once wished so badly.

* KillTheOnesYouLove: [[spoiler:Her plan to "save" her lost love Negi from a FateWorseThanDeath is to kill him, to at least set him free from the Lifemaker's torment.]]

* LoveConfessor: In Chapter 110, Yukihime confesses to Touta that she's still in love with Negi and that's why she can't reciprocate Touta's feelings, at least not until Negi is freed from the Lifemaker.

* MerlinAndNimue: Evangeline was Negi's master in magic. She eventually fell in love with him and the two had a romantic relationship. Negi also ended up being the person that [[RescueRomance freed Eva from her School Hell curse]] that Nagi put on her, but was never able to remove, as he was possessed by the Lifemaker. As a final act of love, she intends to deliver a MercyKill to him and free him from Ialda's possession.
* TheMourningAfter: In a sense. Negi isn't dead, but trapped in a FateWorseThanDeath as the current host of the Lifemaker. She says to Touta that she still loves Negi and can never love another man until she frees Negi from the Mage of Beginning.

* OneWomanArmy: She almost singlehandedly fought off the Magic World's entire invasion army and finally won the war all by herself with a single spell of mass destruction.

* OutOfFocus: Despite being labeled a main character, Yukihime gets sidelined from the main plot unless the Lifemaker and Negi are directly involved. There's also little panel time devoted to her until much later parts of the manga and even then, she mostly stays in the background while characters like [[SpotlightStealingSquad Kirie]] take the spotlight.

* PersonOfMassDestruction: Back in the 16th century, she was so ridiculously powerful that she could freeze up the entire military of the Magic World with a single spell.

* RelationshipUpgrade: PlayedWith. Back in ''Negima'', her relationship with Negi was primarily master-apprentice with quite a bit of ShipTease on the side, but nothing ever came out of it. In the ''UQ Holder'' timeline, they developed romantic feelings for each other, although Negi was too focused on trying to save the world to form a stable relationship with Yukihime. Then, he got possessed by the Lifemaker, which effectively ruined all possibility for their romance.
* {{Retcon}}: In ''Negima'', Evangeline was a nobleman's daughter until her tenth birthday where she awoke as a vampire and apparently killed her own family with her fangs, after which she killed the one who vampirized her in revenge. Her backstory was completely altered in ''UQ Holder''. For starters, instead of nobility, Evangeline was originally a peasant girl from a small village. One day, the Lifemaker brought her to a castle and transformed her into an artificial High Daylight Walker through some sort of experiment. After she escaped from the castle, she found that Magic World mages burned down her village and killed her parents.

** In timeline A, Negi first had a crush on Chisame that went nowhere and then he entered a three-way relationship with Nodoka and Yue. After he tragically lost the three to the Lifemaker, he fell for Eva.

* ShooTheDog: After 120 years of traveling together, Yukihime told Karin to go separate ways because Yukihime was being constantly hunted as a criminal for stopping the Martian mages' invasion on Earth. She didn't want to keep dragging Karin down with her and thought it was best for Karin to find her own path. Karin refused, but she was still forcibly separated from Yukihime after an evil High Daylight Walker trapped her inside a World Tree. Yukihime didn't let Karin meet her again until UQ Holder was formed.

* StarCrossedLovers: With Negi. They developed romantic feelings for each other, but Yukihime couldn't stop Negi from shouldering himself with the mission of saving the world at the cost of his own happiness. In the end, Negi's efforts ended in failure and has become the Lifemaker's newest host. [[spoiler:As a final act of love, Yukihime plans to give Negi a MercyKill and then use a suicide spell to kill herself along the Lifemaker.]]
* StepfordSmiler: Depressed type. While she's usually smiling and acts affable, she was really left grief-stricken after Negi became possessed by the Lifemaker. She also hides a lot of self-loathing caused by the countless murders she committed in the past. Touta wants to make possible that Yukihime can smile as if she means it.

* TraumaCongaLine: When she was only ten years old, Yukihime was taken away from her parents and the Lifemaker used her as a test subject to replicate the immortality of the High Daylight Walkers. She managed to escape only to find that her hometown was set on fire by mages from the Magic World. She then wandered across medieval Europe without anywhere to go and wishing she could die but being unable to. The Witch of the Rift Dana kidnapped her and trapped her in her castle at the VoidBetweenTheWorlds. While trying to kill Dana, she met with Touta who came from 700 years in the future. He became her FirstLove, but he kept disappearing and she could only see him briefly every few years. After finishing her training with Dana, Yukihime started to chase off the Magic World mages that destroyed her village and while she did stop their invasion, her actions made her known as a terrifying villain in the magic community. To make it worse, her only loyal ally was turned into a World Tree by an enemy High Daylight Walker who wanted to see Yukihime in despair. She spent the following centuries all alone, always in the run and being attacked by those who wanted to take revenge. She finally met Nagi and fell for him because of his kindness and resemblance to Touta, which caused Yukihime to chase after him all the way to Japan where he left her trapped at a school to keep her from bugging him. Years later, Yukihime found a bit of happiness by spending time with Class 3-A, ultimately falling in love with their teacher Negi. However, most of her classmates grew old without her and in some cases, they got sealed away, turned into human puppets or brutally murdered. The last nail in the coffin was her beloved Negi becoming possessed by the Lifemaker. After all that, Yukihime is convinced nothing good can come out of her immortal life now.

* UnwittingTestSubject: The Lifemaker used Yukihime as a guinea pig for immortality experiments, transforming her into an artificial High Daylight Walker. From what's shown, this was all against Yukihime's will and [[IHateYouVampireDad she hates the Lifemaker for what she turned her into]].

** She also gains the ability to [[TimeStandsStill freeze time]]. Touta calls this the ultimate god-level cheat power that could be the key to defeating the BigBad as all they need to do is stop the Lifemaker in time before she possesses her next host. Although, Kirie's time-stop does have a minor drawback as she needs to kiss Touta in the lips to activate and deactivate it.

* {{Tritagonist}}: Kirie gets the most focus and relevance right after Touta and Yukihime. Despite not having any personal connection to the MythArc with the Lifemaker, an awful lot of time is spent on Kirie's growing relationship with Touta and her powers to control time are a go-to PlotDevice.

* HeartbrokenBadass: She's a skilled fighter with HolyHandGrenade magic and a Completelmmortality that makes it impossible to harm her in any way, but she still feels guilty and mournful over her part in the death of her beloved teacher [[spoiler:Jesus]] even after over 2,000 years have passed.

* MeaningfulName: His name refers to the LuckySeven, reflecting his nature as a BenevolentGenie. In fact, it repeats the word "seven" in different languages: Sept (French), Sichi and Nana (Japanese).

* BringMyBrownPants: She pees herself in terror when she finds herself in the presence of Lifemaker Negi.

* ImmortalImaturity: Despite being millennia old {{Physical God}}s who most often act regal and composed, all of them can and will often behave in a way more fitting to a grade schooler. Nikitis is a humongous show-off who won't relent until everyone acknowledges him as the best thing since pastries; Ba'al enjoys destroying things akin to a sadistic kid breaking toys or trampling ants; Even the adult Dana revels in teasing people and pushing their buttons like a Middle-Schooler.
* KungFuWizard: They have incredibly powerful magical powers and are extremely skilled hand-to-hand fighters.

* AllPowerfulBystander: Outside of training Touta for a short time, Dana never intervenes in anything going on the plot despite being able to take on the Lifemaker herself. Justified in that she'd rather watch her students deal with threats instead of relying on her, and by the fact that someone that powerful would kill all conflict.

* KungFuWizard: She has enormous magic powers, but is adept in fighting hand-to-hand.

* LightningBruiser: She blitzes targets as easily as she obliterates them.

* StoryBreakerPower: Her power is likely on par with the Lifemaker herself. Not that she uses it for anything but to mess with her students, though.

* SuperpowerLottery: In addition to the PhysicalGod PersonOfMassDestruction aspect of Vampire Nobles, Dana has powers over Time, Space and Dimensions unique to her as the "Witch of the Rift". In terms of magical ability, she might be right behind the [[BigBad Lifemaker]] who could create [[PersonOfMassConstruction an entire world and alternate universes]]. In terms of fighting capacity, she might be the strongest character of the story.

* LightEmUp: His BeamSpam attack is of the Light element.
* LightningBruiser: Like all top-tier fighters in a self-respecting shonen manga, Ba'al moves like lighting and hits like a drop-forge hammer.

* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Being a High Daylight Walker means he's an advanced lifeform with godlike power and Nikitis won't stop rubbing it in the face of the inferior species.
* AwesomeEgo: Fancies himself as the mightiest there is and wants everyone to acknowledging as such, scoffing bombastically at the prospect of having an equal. Yet, this is entirely PlayedForLaughs, with Akamastsu clearly having a blast.

* GoodAllAlong: It's made look like Nikitis is siding with Ba'al at first, but he trains Touta to make him strong enough to beat Fate, which is definitely not favorable for Ba'al's plans. At the end of the fight, Nikitis helps taking the evil High Daylight Walker down after being revealed that apparently, he was planning to turn on Ba'al all along.

* KungFuWizard: Another of his similarities with Fate, Nikitis is the most physically-inclined fighter of his kind.

* MagicLibrarian: Nikitis is one of the High Daylight Walkers, which are called the supreme supernatural race in the setting. He also claims to have taken over the position of Library Island's librarian after Albireo was taken over by the Lifemaker.

** He loses all composure in Chapter 65 when he is shown a vision of Negi and Nagi alive...in the grip of his former master, The Lifemaker.
** When Fate reveals that Negi's mind is about to be overwritten by the Lifemaker, he actually begins to shed tears. Consider his status otherwise as the series' poster child for emotionally stunted stoic.

* VisionaryVillain: Fate seeks to create a world where everyone is immortal by using the same method that made Touta immortal. He believes that if no one dies anymore, tragedies will never come to pass again and Negi will be freed from the suffering of the Lifemaker's Resonance. However, Negi tells Fate that plan won't satisfy Ialda because Fate is only trying to save the people of the future.

* AdaptedOut: Her actual appearances weren't included in the anime. She just appeared in an illusion where her past self and all of 3-A attack Lifemaker Negi.
* BadassAdorable:

* OurDemonsAreDifferent: The younger sister of the Queen of the Demon World, who looks-like a teenage girl in a SexyJester outfit. Granted, it is most likely AFormYouAreConfortableWith.

** In the middle of the attack of the Lifemaker's faction, Asuna shows up out of nowhere inside Phantasmagoria to save Touta and Yukihime from the mental attack of the Lifemaker. Soon after, she somehow manifests in the battlefield through Touta and convinces Lifemaker Negi to withdraw, putting his faction out of action indefinitely.
** In the Happy Ending timeline, Asuna is brought back from the future by Chao. With Asuna's White of Mars, Negi can track down the Lifemaker, defeat her and save his father in the span of a few years. Dana even [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] this perfect outcome was only made possible by a cheat code.

* ProjectedMan: Her corporeal body is still sealed in Mars, but she somehow manages to materialize through Touta's Magic Cancel so she can stop Lifemaker Negi's rampage.

* HumanPincushion: She was killed by the Lifemaker by being impaled with multiple shadowy tendrils.
* PosthumousCharacter: She is long dead in timeline A, having [[TakingTheBullet taken the bullet]] for Negi during the fight with the Lifemaker. Whether or not her timeline A Prime counterpart is still alive is never specified.
* TakingTheBullet: She was killed when shielding Negi from the Lifemaker.

* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: Chisame turns down Negi's confession not because she doesn't like him (she does very much), but because he is too young and she thinks he has too many other important things on his mind, like saving the world. Her classmates realize that her mature consideration for him is probably one of the reasons why Negi fell in love with her. They married five years after Negi defeated the Lifemaker.

!!The Lifemaker's Faction

The members on the side of the current Lifemaker vessel, featuring a surprising roster of returning characters.

* {{Anti Villain}}s: Negi and his followers act (with the exception of Cutlass) aren't shown to have any malice during their fight with UQ Holder and can even act cordial towards their enemies. Negi even had genuine shock when Cutlass stabbed Kirie. Strictly speaking, they're actually victims themselves; they have become pretty much nothing but the Lifemaker's puppets by this point.

* TheArchmage: Considered to be this by everyone in the world, and especially so after becoming one with the Lifemaker.

* BadassInDistress: He's become one with the Lifemaker. Yukihime's and Fate's goal is to find a way to free him, although both have different plans for it.
* BadassLongRobe: He sports a massive one when he makes a personal appearance. The way it curls makes it look almost identical to the Lifemaker's in form.

* DemonicPossession: He is being possessed by the Lifemaker at the moment. However, Chapter 126 reveals that he is still very much himself, so it is unclear exactly to what extent this trope applies. Turns out he's FightingFromTheInside, and that [[spoiler:the free wills of Nodoka, Yue, Rakan, and Sanders are all bolstering his own, weakening (though not eliminating) Ialda's influence on him.]]
* DidNotGetTheGirl: In the timeline without Asuna, Negi and Chisame never hook up [[spoiler:and she ends up getting killed by TakingTheBullet for him]]. His formal Ministra Magi, Nodoka and Yue, are taken over by the Lifemaker. All he had left was Evangeline, but Negi never allowed himself to seek happiness with her.
* EternalLove: He did develop romantic feelings for Yukihime once he was immortal too, but couldn't give up his goal of defeating the Lifemaker to be with her.

* FailureHero: How he ended up in the timeline A. [[spoiler:He failed to save his father, couldn't protect the girl he loved, his two Ministra Magi and his father's companions, failed to defeat the Lifemaker twice with the last attempt ending in his own DemonicPossession.]]

* FightingFromTheInside: Unlike previous examples, Negi seems to be mostly himself after merging with the Lifemaker. At least in terms of his personality, surprising Eva when he excuses himself after his classic sneeze.

* GrandTheftMe: Is the current vessel of the Lifemaker.

* TheLostLenore: He's this to Evangeline despite not being dead yet. She deeply regrets not being able to save Negi from taking all the burden on himself and letting him refuse himself happiness. Losing him to the Lifemaker had quite an impact on her [[spoiler:to the point she intends to put him out of his misery at the cost of her own life]]. On the HoYay side, he can also be considered this for Fate.

* MerlinAndNimue: Evangeline was Negi's master in magic. She eventually fell in love with him and the two had a romantic relationship in timeline A. Negi also ended up being the person that [[RescueRomance freed Eva from her School Hell curse]] that Nagi put on her, but was never able to remove, as he was possessed by the Lifemaker. [[spoiler:As a final act of love, she intends to deliver a MercyKill to him and free him from Ialda's possession.]]

* OnTheRebound: After losing Chisame, Nodoka and Yue, Negi went straight to Eva to look for her comfort. Eva herself knew he did this because he had no one else left, calling herself "leftovers". However, Negi never really hooked up with Eva because he was way too busy trying to find a way to defeat the Lifemaker.

* StarCrossedLovers: With Yukihime. Despite having feelings for each other, Negi prioritizes defeating the Lifemaker before any chance of happiness for himself. He doesn't realize how much he's making Yukihime suffer in the process until [[spoiler:he's about to attempt a TakingYouWithMeAttack spell]] in a last battle against the Lifemaker. The end result was Negi becoming the newest Lifemaker host [[spoiler:and Yukihime promising to "save" him by killing him and then herself.]]

* TragicHero: [[spoiler:He had to seal away his closest friend for the sake of his plan to save Mars, failed to save his father, lost his FirstLove and closest allies to the Lifemaker. In the aftermath, Negi emotionally, psychologically and morally falls apart. Over the decades that pass, Negi desperately tries his best to better the world and fight the unhappiness in the world, but grows more and more unhappy himself. With Asuna not around, Nodoka and Yue taken by Ialda, and Chisame dead, no one reminds an overworking Negi of his own happiness (and Eva does so too late), which leads to his final plan to attempt a SuicideAttack against Ialda to destroy her once and for all. The attempt failed and he became the puppet of the villain who took everything from him.]]

!!The Mage of the Beginning, The Lifemaker (real name: Ialda Baoth)

* CreateYourOwnHero: The reason why Negi, Evangeline, and by extension Touta exist in the way we know is all because of the Lifemaker. Negi is her direct descendant through his mother, Evangeline was turned into a vampire by the Lifemaker's immortalization experiments, and Touta was created from Negi's DNA to eventually defeat the Lifemaker.

* GenderReveal: The first series was very vague when it came to the Lifemaker's specific gender. In ''UQ Holder'', it's finally clarified that the Lifemaker is a female with everyone explicitly addressing her with female pronouns.

* OrcusOnHerThrone: Unlike in ''Negima'', the Lifemaker is present and unsealed, yet she never actually shows up or does anything to actively oppose the protagonists except for the one time she tried to kidnap Touta. It's possible the reason is that Negi has been FightingFromTheInside for the last couple of decades since he was possessed. Also, Asuna somehow materialized through Touta and went with the Lifemaker to keep her at bay so she won't come for Touta again, at least temporarily.

* ShapeshifterGuiltTrip: Inside her Phantasmagoria, the Lifemaker takes Negi's form and tries to seduce Eva as part of a psychological trick to distract her.

* TheDarkChick: Of the Lifemaker's faction.

* TheEvilGenius: Of the Lifemakers' faction.

* EatTheRich: While she is loyal to the Lifemaker and is fighting [[WellIntentionedExtremist for her cause]], she also wants to make everyone who was blessed or privileged suffer beforehand.

The famous rival of Nagi Springfield, member of Ala Rubra, and all around nice guy. Jack Rakan is another returning cast member from the previous series. Though thought long dead from the last war, he makes a grand return, except this time opposing the heroes and fighting along side a Lifemaker possessed Negi.

* TheBrute: Of the Lifemakers' faction.

A powerful mage specializing in gravity magic. A member of Alba Rubra, and companion to Nagi Springfield, for unknown reasons he is on the side of a Lifemaker possessed Negi.

* TheDragon: Of the Lifemakers' faction.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Albireo was briefly seen in Nagumo's flashback in Chapter 24 before making his official return as one of the Lifemaker's minions over 100 chapters later.

* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: Sayoko apparently used something like a downgraded version of the Lifemaker's Resonance to gather power from thousands of evil spirits and make herself into a god-class VengefulGhost. In exchange, her mind has been completely consumed by the hatred of the spirits and there's probably nothing of her original self left.

* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: Touta was the first person who treated her with kindness ever since the Lifemaker turned her into an immortal and his words of encouragement helped her find the will to live. He became her FirstLove and she wanted to see him again no matter how many years passed for her.

* BullyingADragon: How she became TheDreaded. Because of the Lifemaker's experiments and Dana's training, Kitty was made into an uber-powerful immortal mage. After she freed a town from the control of some evil mages, people started persecuting Kitty because NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished and any person who attacked her got killed by her. Nobody seemed to learn it was a terrible idea to mess with Kitty and this went on for centuries. As Dana pointed out, Kitty's torment would have ended if she hasn't been too powerful for anyone to kill her.

* UnexplainedRecovery: Negi rips his heart out to get the Lifemaker out of his body. In the timeline A Prime, Nagi inexplicably survives by a miracle and fully recovers a couple of years later. That timeline's Fate and Dana have a hunch the Lifemaker may have something to do with it. Nagi wasn't so lucky in the Asuna-less timeline, though.

* BloodKnight: He betrayed UQ Holder because he wanted Jinbei to fight him without holding back.

* IJustWantToBeBadass: His only goal is becoming the strongest so he can cut anyone in his path. [[soiuler: Though Jinbe reveals that he has been lashing out in grief and resentment for the last eight hundred years of existence, due to the death of his family and the suffering he was exposed to.]]

* LaserBlade: Sept can create several made of HardLight, and

A child-like High Daylight Walker who fought Evangeline and Karin in the past, as they went up against mages from the Magical World seeking to invade Earth, and the [[CorruptPolitician smarmy Megalomensembrian senator]] backing them. He is indirectly the reason why Evangeline is TheDreaded among mages, as she fought against Megalomesembria to stop it. What he is up to as of now remains unknown.

* AxCrazy: Although he seems calm at almost all times, he's bloodthirsty as hell and nearly godlike in power. The very first thing he does when he appears in Karin's flashback is to reduce Evangeline to a pool of blood. He has become even more deranged in the present-day.

* DarkIsEvil: Ba'al wears black, has [[CastingAShadow shadow and darkness powers]], and was the ManBehindTheMan behind an invasion of Earth seemingly ForTheEvulz.

* {{Foil}}: Like Evangeline, Ba'al is an UndeadChild and a formidable PintSizedPowerhouse, who observes the world and takes an interest in people out of the ordinary to alleviate their boredom. But he is a full-time resident of the UncannyValley to contrast her CuteBruiser and the amoral villain [[NobleDemon she only pretended to be]], tormenting the ones who perk his interest while she trains and helps them. Ba'al [[LampshadeHanging notices this]], stating that she is as close to a High Daylight Walker as can be in terms of power and immortality, but remains human to the core while he and his kind are monstrous in spirit.
* ForTheEvulz: Most High Daylight Walkers are supposed to have no interest in the matters of the mortal world. Ba'al is the only one who goes out of his way to cause chaos and destruction for no apparent reason other than personal enjoyment.

* TheHeavy:
** He played this role in Evangeline's backstory. While her main enemies were the invaders from the Magic World, Ba'al was the most dangerous threat to her team and sending him to the VoidBetweenTheWorlds was what greatly facilitated for her to win against the Magic World's army. He later returned to take Karin away from Evangeline and make her experience the despair of having no allies left in either world, leaving her in a depressed state until she met Nagi centuries later.
** In the present-day, the Mage of the Beginning retook center-stage as the BigBad, but has been [[OrcusOnHisThrone out of commission]] ever since Asuna stopped her from kidnapping Touta. Meanwhile, Ba'al returns and assumes a much more active villain role by having Juuzou and Sept betray UQ Holder and trying to exterminate all of UQ Holder for the sake of the Mage of the Beginning's AssimilationPlot.

** Evangeline defeats him by sending his spell to banish Karin outside of dimension back at him. She knows that they haven't seen the last of him, but he still takes him over 120 years to antagonize them once more.

* HunterOfHisOwnKind: Ba'al is a High Daylight Walker, possibly the most powerful type of immortal in the setting, yet he deems immortals as a threat to humanity and sets out to exterminate all of UQ Holder.
* ImplacableMan: Even after Yukihime sent him to the VoidBetweenTheWorlds, Ba'al came back to hunt her and Karin down. In the present, he has once again returned to make himself an enemy of Yukihime's UQ Holder.
* IntriguedByHumanity: Ba'al claims that he loves all humans and that's why he will exterminate immortals for the sake of Ialda "saving" humanity with her LotusEaterMachine.
* ItAmusedMe: He harrassed [[FriendlyNeighborhoodVampire Evangeline]] and [[TheAtoner Karin]] for decades because he gets his kicks in putting them through ordeals and watching the result.

* MeaningfulName: Ba'al is the hebrew word for "lord" or "master" fitting his status as a High Daylight Walker. More importantly, it is the name of the TopGod of the Canaanite pantheon, ruling over the Male Principle, Fertility, Seasons and Weather, declined in various neighbouring pantheons and later [[HijackedByJesus likened by Christianity to the Demon Prince Beelzebub]]. His villainous role makes him closer to the demonic aspect, but given Akamatsu's [[ShownTheirWork wide knowledge of Mythologies]] and use of [[RuleOfSymbolism symbolic deities' names for his characters]], the divine aspect is likely to play a part.

* MultiDirectionalBarrage: One of his deadliest moves conjures hundreds of beams of light from every direction, striking all at once. That's also how he attacks in SuperMode, surrounding targets with his shadow and conjuring spikes, scythes, fists or monstrous heads to attack at once.

* PsychoSupporter: Ba'al proclaims to support Ialda's plan to trap the entire universe in a LotusEaterMachine and he arrives to exterminate all of her enemies in UQ Holder while Asuna is keeping Ialda away. Like Cutlass before him, Ba'al seems to side with Ialda because he's a destructive maniac who is insane enough to believe Ialda's way of "saving the world" is the best one.
* {{Sadist}}: He attacked Karin and trapped her inside a World Tree for over a century. Why? He wanted to see Evangeline's despair over losing her only ally in the whole world.

Santa was even the only one who could do anything to stop Sayoko's ZombieApocalypse, while all of UQ Holder was neutralized. * PleasePutSomeClothesOn: He's the only one in the team who can't lose his clothes because they're part of his spiritual body, so he bashfully asks his teammates to put something on whenever they fall victims of ClothingDamage, which is often.

* AdvancedAncientHumans: According to Nikitis Laps, High Daylight Walkers are actually the survivors of an AdvancedAncientAcropolis in Venus that was destroyed by their wars over immortality thousands of years ago.

* VampireMonarchs: The mightiest of all vampire-kind, with the power and influence that entails. They are refered as Vampire Nobles.

* IntriguedByHumanity: He has a very strong interest in human culture, such as being a fan of rock stars from the past century and reading books that contain human emotions. All this convinces Touta that Nikitis really likes humans.

* ArcVillain: The second major arc of the series is about Fate's attempt to kidnap Touta. The Numbers try to prevent it by trapping Fate under their headquarters. It doesn't really work because [[ElementalIgnorance an underground cave is the worst possible place to imprison an earth mage,]] but Fate just leaves while promising to try to get Touta later. From then on, though, Fate never poses a direct threat again since Lifemaker-possessed-Negi usurps the position of the BigBad.

* BigBadWannabe: During his reintroduction, Fate and his Ala Alba appear to be set up as a main villain group and a major threat to UQ Holder. Then, the Lifemaker shows up and completely takes over the BigBad role, pushing the conflict with Fate to the side. Eventually, a powered-up Touta ends up handling Fate and his minions all on his own and gets Fate to put his plan to make everyone immortal on hold by pointing out its big flaws. To add insult to injury, Nikitis Laps arrives out of nowhere and beheads Fate. From that point on, the High Daylight Walker Ba'al's group becomes the main villain group opposing UQ Holder.

* DiscOneFinalBoss: Fate is initially built up as the BigBad, but not long after it is revealed that the Mage of the Beginning is still around, and is a far more pressing threat. Played with in which he is not defeated and remains at odds with UQ Holder, though they join force as soon as the BigBad brings her ugly mug around. Still, they are in a truce of sorts, and Fate is one rocky yet quite amiable terms with Evangeline and Touta.

* EvilVersusEvil: His conflict against the Lifemaker is this.

* DarkActionGirl: She's a skilled fencer, and is noted to have far more experience than Ikkuu, another full-body cyborg.

* AllEncompassingMantle: Her true form wears an all-encompassing BlackCloak.
* TheArchmage: By virtue of possessing the body of whomever the current Archmage is, and adding her native power to theirs.

* BigBad: Just as she was in the last series, so she is in this series. The only reason Fate is doing anything ambiguously evil is to stop her.

When not possessing somebody, she usually appears as a tall woman with pure white hair tied up in braids, generally wearing a long black cloak. * TheUnfettered: He sided with Ba'al because he concluded that was the best way to achieve his goal of becoming the strongest swordsman ever.

* DemonSlayer: His skill set is designed to fight against supernatural threats like Demons and Ghosts. This is a problem when he ends up being brainwashed by Sayoko because he's the one who can take out both Santa (Ghost) and Touta (Vampire).

* DemonSlayer: Just like Setsuna before her, Isana possesses the Shinmeiryuu-sword style, which is catered towards this.

Founded years before the start of the series by Yukihime as a society for immortals and non-humans like herself to gather, socialize, and aid one another. Their name is a pun in Japanese for "eternity holder" referencing their composition. The rank-and-file are modeled after {{Yakuza}} and made up mostly of {{Yokai}}, while above them are the "Numbers", people who have the most powerful abilities and fullest degrees of immortality. While they don't necessarily work for free they seek to aid those who have no other options and work against the fear humans have of immortals by seeking out those that would harm humanity. When not on field work they front as the staff of the resort inn ''Senkyoukan''. Forms the backbone of the story so far and includes all the main cast. Also includes Fairyland Hall, their headquarters that is hidden as a haunted inn.

* BadassFamily: His "grandfather" is Negi and Asuna was his "grandmother" [[spoiler:(as well as his Great-Great-Great Aunt)]], making him related to Lingshen, [[WorldsStrongestMan Nagi]] and Arika. And he was raised by Yukihime / Evangeline. He also carries the Konoe surname. [[spoiler: Chapter 147 reveals that he actually is related to the Konoe family by blood, as one of Konoka's descendants was the one that gave birth to him as a surrogate mother.]]
* BashBrothers: He views Kuroumaru as his reliable brother-in-arms. He remains totally oblivious to the latter’s NoBiologicalSex and conflicted attraction towards him. [[spoiler:When Kuroumaru finally confesses both things to him, Touta says Kuroumaru is still his partner no matter what.]]

* BlackSwordsAreBetter: His Gravity Sword has a black blade.

* BuxomIsBetter: When listing off a bunch of reasons why he likes Karin, he says he likes that she's stacked. This also explains part of his attraction to Yukihime (since he was only familiar with that form initially) and why he doesn't show any interest in Mizore and minimal in Kirie, at least initially in terms of the latter.
* CallingTheOldManOut: After meeting his long missing grandfather, Touta's first line to Negi is "Hey gramps. Don't get all touchy-feely with my woman."
* ChasteHero: He seems to be mostly oblivious to sexuality and romance. He's clueless of anyone's romantic interest in him and doesn't even react at the sight of naked girls. It gets downplayed later on when he starts to show interest in girls, mainly Yukihime and Kirie, and does get flustered when he sees them naked. That said, Kirie still had to explain him what sexual intercourse is. It makes sense when you know he was created four years ago. Later on, he has zero problems [[spoiler:being blasted naked by God while trying to form a pactio with Karin. After this, he has perfectly chaste kisses with Shinobu, Mizore, and [[BiTheWay Santa]] to form pactios or being in intimate contact with Kirie for hours on end to make her's.]]

* CluelessChickMagnet: Touta is generally oblivious to the affections of the girls around him, despite the fact that everyone else can see it. He only knows about Mizore because she doesn't hide her desire for him at all. Even when girls are literally throwing themselves on top of him, he continues to show little romantic attraction to any of them sans Yukihime.

* CurbStompBattle: Normally he gets stomped to show how competent the villain is. He was also thoroughly beaten by Cutlass, to the point where even his immortality couldn't save him. Had the [[BigDamnHeroes other members of UQ Holder not showed up]], he ''would'' have been killed.
* DayWalkingVampire: Though Eva was weak to sunlight and needed to drink blood when she was first vampirized, Touta notes that neither seems to apply to him. This is likely due to Magia Erebea, which basically makes him an immortal demon powered by magic as well.

* HotForTeacher: A complicated example. Yukihime was Touta's homeroom teacher for 2 years. Many chapters later, he proposes marriage to her. However, Yukihime was no longer his teacher and Touta only started showing attraction to her after meeting a younger version of her in a PlaceBeyondTime.

* IdenticalGrandson: {{Zigzagged|Trope}}, his colour of skin, eyes and hair are different from those of his grandfather as part of his origin as an imperfect clone and this difference is often noted, however, it is always said that he really is Negi's grandson and he looks a lot like his grandfather did once he uses Magia Erebea's power of absorption, [[spoiler: this is specially noted in Chapter 133 when the two fight using Magia Erebea.]]

* IgnoreTheFanservice: He's pretty much immune to Yukihime's body after years of living with her, and when Karin gets her clothes torn off in Chapter 13, he does not comment on it at all. It gets subverted in later chapters as he starts getting flustered when he sees girls naked. Yukihime even points out the change when Touta gets embarrassed from seeing her coming out of the shower.

* IJustWantToHaveFriends: He's enthusiastic to make as many friends as possible. He practically forces Kuroumaru to become his friend after losing their fight and then he decides to become friends with everyone of UQ Holder despite not knowing anything about them.

* ImprobableAge: According to UQ Holders files, he's four. It's later revealed that this is because he's a clone of Negi and Asuna that actually ''was'' born 4 years earlier.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's cocky, immature and rude, but still a good guy.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: The Gravity Sword is a katana.

* KryptoniteFactor: As a vampire, being bound with a cross will seal his power until it's removed. Strangely, he doesn't have any of the other standard vampiric weaknesses (most notably sunlight and the need to drink blood). It's possible [[LamarckWasRight he acquired immunity to the others from Yukihime]] (who used to be weak to all of them until becoming powerful enough to shrug them off), but she spent a good chunk of ''Negima'' wearing outfits with CreepyCoolCrosses with no ill effects.

* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Touta is the only one in UQ Holder who doesn't know Kuroumaru has NoBiologicalSex and can become a girl later on. [[spoiler:He finally finds out in Chapter 151.]]

** When Kuroumaru finally works up the courage to tell Touta he likes him, Touta immediately says he likes Kuroumaru too...just like he likes the rest of his friends. Kuroumaru can't believe Touta could be that clueless. [[spoiler:Touta does finally get what Kuroumaru meant when he finds out about his NoBiologicalSex.]]

** Fate is after Touta, claiming he's the key for his plan to save Negi. [[spoiler:He wants to use Touta’s successful immortalization results to make every person in the world immortal by scientific means.]]

* MasterOfTheMixedMessage: While Yukihime is his top priority, Touta admits to liking all the girls of his harem and many of his actions make his actual feelings come off as unclear. Kirie, especially, is constantly questioning whether Touta sees her as a girl or a little kid to look after.
* MissingReflection: As a vampire, Touta lacks a reflection. It's what tipped off Kuromaru about his true nature.

* IKnowMortalKombat: When she, Santa and Kuroumaru come to save Touta from Cutlass's attack, the latter instantly aims for Kirie seeing she's the weakest link. Unfortunately for her, Kirie dodges all of her attacks with ludicrous timing, something Santa attributes to staying up all night and trying to beat a NintendoHard game on [[HarderThanHard the highest difficulty]]. The implication being that Kirie had already died several times and essentially gone through the same fight over and over again until she'd completely memorized Cutlass's attack patterns.

* InconsistentColoring: A strange case. Kirie's hair in the manga is shaded in a tone that suggests a dark hair color. Colored illustrations, though, show her with blonde hair like Yukihime and Mizore. Made weirder when you find there was an early promotional image that depicted her with ''pink'' hair.
* InsecureLoveInterest: She worries she might not be as good for Touta as the other girls in his harem. Her childlike body also makes her insecure because she believes Touta must find tall and busty women like Yukihime far more attractive. [[LoliconAndShotacon She's wrong on that one.]]

* MagicAIsMagicA: Ikku brings up the possibility that Kirie's save spell doesn't actually send her back in time, but to an alternate timeline/dimension, that when she dies her memories are sent to alternate Kirie, while the original timeline continues but with Kirie being dead. Subverted; Kirie's power is of the timeline rewriting variety.
* MagicKiss: By kissing Touta mouth-to-mouth, she can freeze time and start it again. It's unknown why it only works with Touta; everyone chalks it up to ThePowerOfLove. However, this effect makes it impossible for them to form a Pactio.
* MatchmakerCrush: She wants to help Kuroumaru hook up with Touta, despite everyone including Kuroumaru knowing Kirie is crushing on Touta herself. Other than that, her main role in the plot is to be Touta's ResetButton PlotDevice unofficial assistant. The number of times her scenes ''don't'' center around Touta in some way or another can be counted on a single hand.

** In the fight against Cutlass, she lit a fire on her finger. The implication is that while a fire on a mound is a classic save point, a fire on her finger is an emulator-style save state.

* ShanaClone: She's an OlderThanSheLooks childlike rich girl with long blonde hair tied into GirlishPigtails, wears Grade S ZettaiRyouiki on occasion and her body-type gives her severe ACupAngst. She's also in competition with several other girls for Touta's heart, eventually taking the lead.

She's not a bad person at heart, though, and does care to do what she can to protect innocent lives.

She eventually realizes that because of her own backstory, she's been rather unfair to Touta and proceeds to have a heart-to-heart with him about her entire past, and does sincerely admit he is her friend.

He is ''technically'' 85 years old, as in that's how long he has existed since he was born, but due to the coma he was in he is only mentally 13, making him ''younger than Touta''. In addition, he purposefully chose his body to make him look around 24. In Chapter 43, however, he transfers his mind into a 13 year old form to assist Touta with his next assignment of going undercover at a middle school, meaning he now shares an appearance suited to his mental age.

Jinbei is the current leader of the UQ Holder, but because he angered Yukihime a few years back, he got dropped into an underground cave where the group tests potential applicants and was forgotten. Unlike Kuroumaru, Touta or Yukihime, he actually has a very weak form of immortality: After eating the flesh of a merperson, he ceased aging, but lacks any kind of high level regeneration or enhanced durability.

* TheAgeless: His form of immortality mainly stops him from aging, as while he can reattach severed limbs, he cannot regenerate them if they're destroyed, and he'll die for good if his head is obliterated.
* BadassNormal: Compared to the other members of UQ Holder, Jinbei stands out for not having any fancy supernatural powers aside from basic agelessness. It's heavily implied that he got as strong as he did through fourteen-hundred years of constant warfare [[spoiler:and only started using his Switcheroo ability at the end of UsefulNotes/WorldWarII.]]

* CoveredInScars: Because his regeneration is very weak, he apparently takes injuries and scars like a normal person, leaving him a mess of nasty injuries.

* SpaceMaster: His unique ability, dubbed "Switcheroo", allows him to switch two individuals' places in a radius of 300 meters. Later chapters show that this is merely a taste of the applications of his power, as he can actually teleport in much larger objects and even create spacial tears to negate otherwise lethal attacks, [[spoiler:which come in handy against Juuzou's godslaying swordsmanship. Thus, orders are clear: Recruit him into UQ Holder, or eliminate the dangerous and out of control immortal.\\

* RapunzelHair: Surprisingly given the clothes he wears, his hair is about the same length as his body.

* SuperPowerLottery: His powers are as far as immortals go quite vast, with only two weaknesses: exorcism and being earthbound to where he loses power the further away he is from the planet's surface.
