* {{It Can Think}}: Mailer though filled with the rage virus does seem to be in more control of his actions than most of the infected as after he gets free, he decides to get revenge on West and the other soldiers for chaining him up then leaving him to be exposed to the elements along with the possibility that he like Farrell did not agree with West to have any female survivors raped as after killing him, he only screams instead of going after Jim and the girls clearly relived of finally getting even with West.

* {{It Can Think}}: Mailer though filled with the rage virus does seem to be in more control of his actions than most of the infected as after he gets free, he decides to get revenge on West and the other soldiers for chaining him up then leaving him to be exposed to the elements along with the fact that he along with Farrell did not agree with West to have any female survivors raped as after killing him, he only screams instead of going after Jim and the girls clearly relived of finally getting even with West.

* WhatTheHellHero: [[spoiler: Calls out Jones for allowing Mitchell to kill him cruelly and painfully rather than just shooting him. [[PetTheDog Jones at least as the decency to agree and shoot him before Mitchell has his chance.]]]]

Jones' near-suicide was the act that motivated West to promise the soldiers sex slaves to they can repopulate the country. He did this to boost morale and provide a future to Jones and the other soldiers.]]

* NothingLeftToDoButDie: [[spoiler: After surviving the attack at Forty-Second Blockade and being isolated at the new base, Jones attempted to take his own life after coming to the conclusion that life is "futureless". West was able to stop him and he now uses Jones' near-suicide as motivation for his plans for the future.]]

* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Downplayed, because he's perfectly willing to go along with [[spoiler:West's plan to lure in women and rape them, but it was his BungledSuicide that set the plan in motion.]]

* {{Kick the Son of a Bitch}}:[[spoiler:When Mailer gets free by Jim he kills Bedford and Bell along with Clifton which though would be horrific enough to make people feel bad for them except that those two agreed with West’s plan to have any female survivors raped and in Bedford’s case he was clearly going to enjoy doing it and Mailer kills West by dragging him inside the manor and beating him up which would also be horrific as well but since West was the one who got him chained up and got Farrell murdered because he did not want to go along with the plan and also just shot Jim for killing all of his men even though it was self defence as his men were going to rape Selena and Hannah]].

* TheDogBitesBack: Prior to the events of the movie, Mailer was infected with the rage virus and, rather than kill him, West chose to chain him in the courtyard for study. West was able to learn that the infected neglect their basic needs and can starve to death with enough time. West now keeps the infected Mailer alive as a form of personal revenge against the infected for losing so many of his fellow soldiers at the Forty-Second Blockade. [[spoiler: When Jim is able to kill the remaining 8 soldiers, West ambushes him and shoots him in order to avenge his men. Hannah was able to kill Major West by reversing the car into Mailer, who broke through the back window and dragged the screaming Major West out of the back seat and beat him to death.]]

* FreudianExcuseIsNoExcuse: [[spoiler: West believes he's providing hope to his men after stopping Jones from committing suicide in a fit of despair after the massacre at the M602 Blockade. His plan evolved systematically raping women so they can repopulate the planet but the protagonists were able to stop him and his soldiers. In the comics, Selena points out that it didn't take long for West to conjure up this plan and he was likely just looking for an excuse to fulfil his misogynistic agenda.]]
