* BadassCrew: Commands a Master-level team of Dragon Types, including a Mega Salamence, two pseudo-legendary Dragons (Goodra and Dragapult) and a Tyranitar.

* OldMaster: He's the second strongest trainer in Hoenn, united the Hoenn Region into the Ever Grande League, reigned as the first Hoenn Champion for many years and was even recognized as the most powerful of trainer in the world, the Dragon Master, for decades until Lance claimed his title.

* SecretTest: Won the trust and loyalty of his starter, Victor, by winning a game of riddles when the Dragon was still a Bagon.

* TearsOfJoy: According to Karen, he was weeping after watching Ash's battle with Wallace.

* AngerBornOfWorry: Steven is not pleased at all when Ash reveals that he willingly went into the vault containing Spiritomb, something that almost gets him killed. He has another, but more comical, instance when he finds out that Ash held a 24 Hour Challenge while in command of the Fortree Gym and almost ran himself into the ground with 568 battles.

* CulturedBadass: Fino Moore is one of the most recognized and powerful masters, and he has a soft spot for foreign poems.

* BloodKnight: Ash loves Pokemon battling, and often has to reign in his impulses in the heat of battle with his more analytical side.

* CharacterDevelopment: When Infernus first joined, he tried to attack Ash and his team twice until Ash could reign him in. Over time, however, Infernus became more willing to work with Ash, seeing Ash as his trainer, his comrade, and eventually, his friend.

* JackOfAllTrades: In regards to the team, Nidoking serves this role. He isn't as absurdly strong and durable as Infernus, doesn't have immense strength behind him like Torrent, and isn't nearly as skilled with his own elemental powers as Dazed. However, he's durable enough to weather most attacks, fairly skilled with earth manipulation, reasonably physically strong, and has a wide enough move pool that he can counter most Pokemon he fights.

* AdaptationalBadAss: While he could be beaten and captured in the games, in Traveler, it's well-established that ''nothing'' can defeat or contain him.

* EveryoneHasStandards: When Ash has a breakdown on Jirachi's dias over the idea of having to climb down the corpses to leave the cave and begs for another way out, Mewtwo instead teleports him to the exit of the cave.

* OCStandin: Just like Amelia, Jonathan is an original character who was likely created so that the Charmander starter would have a place in the story.

* OCStandin: Like Jonathan, she was likely created to answer the question of what would become of Bulbasaur.

* AuthorityGrantsAsskicking: Almost every member of the Indigo League, Gym Leaders and Elite Four, are very strong and capable leaders.

* AlphaStrike: Tries to kill Ash by ambushing him with Perish Song and a full volley of supercharged Draco Meteors form her Mega Salamance. If it hadn't been for Lotus, she probably would have succeeded.

* ChallengeSeeker: Flannery never backs down from a challenge, be it a Pokemon battle or an arm wrestling constest with a Meditite. This is one of the reasons why she and Ash get along so well - despite him being much stronger than her, he recognizes that she possesses the same drive as him and ''will'' become stronger as well in the future, making her a WorthyOpponent in his eyes. His inner monolog even implies that he thinks that she will become the strongest Gym Leader in the region one day.

* GutturalGrowler: He's described to speak with a rather raspy voice.

* {{Hypocrite}}: Played For Laughs. Ash is initially horrified upon seeing the Domino brought a ''boy'' no older than eleven into a battlefield, Dazed subtly points out that said scenario is exactly what Ash had experienced before.

* TheBigGuy: Lt. Surge is ridiculously tall. Even his Electivire, who is ''seven feet tall,'' is shorter than him.

* BeyondTheImpossible: Mewtwo utterly laughs at the notion of dark types being immune to psychics and easily stops Sneasel's assassination attempt. He later proceeds to [[spoiler: curb-stomp Moltress and trap it under the sea, claw his way out of Mew's '''''black hole,''''' and defeat Mew in a straight fight.]]

* NobleDemon: A wanted international criminal who is willing to murder in cold blood criminals like Pokémon Hunter J, but also one who loves her team dearly.

* CombatPragmatist: She is an unashamed user of this trope. She fights with underhanded tactics like killing the lights, blocking opponents' vision and using intant-win techniques like Confuse Ray, Curse, Destiny Bond and Perish Song.
* ExpectingSomeoneTaller: When she first met Ash, she unashamedly said this and claimed that her opinion of Team Rocket dropped very low. [[spoiler: That is... until she sees Ash save Lance from Mewtwo.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She can come off an abrassive, unapologetic jerk, but she's really caring, fearless, and will do '''anything''' to save her allies.

* AdaptationalBadass: In the games, they exist only as [=NPCs=] to test the player throughout the story. Here, they are the guardians of their respective cities, ''and'' they have more powerful teams who they use depending on the scenario.

* DistaffCounterpart: To Infernus, a humanoid, elemental-based fighter with a brawler fighting style who loves to battle.

Ash's thirteenth and newest addition to his team. Its ability is Pressure, which gives Spiritomb a defensive field that requires massive amounts of power to pierce.
