Added DiffLines:

* HeroesLoveDogs: In ''2'', he becomes particularly close with Andy's dog, Buster, and plays around with him whenever Andy isn't around.
* HeroicBSOD: He has at least one in all four films.
** In the first movie, he sinks into depression when he admits to Buzz that he could never compete with the space toy for Andy's affections, and wishes it was him that Sid had strapped to the rocket.
** In the second movie, Woody is utterly devastated when Andy accidentally rips his arm, and sulks on the shelf. He goes through another one briefly when he tells Buzz's group off for coming to rescue him, and sulks to the active TV set. When he sees a boy who looks like Andy on there, interacting with the Woody puppet, he snaps out of it and rushes to tell Buzz he's coming with them.
** In the third film, he sinks into one when his efforts to reassures his friends that Andy will take care of them doesn't quite work, as even he's unsure about the future.
** In the fourth film, Woody briefly enters one after his falling out with Bo, but he pushes past it to try and get back to Forky.
* HeroicResolve: Woody wants to make sure that no toy gets left behind, and he will go to any lengths to do that. When he learns his friends are under a prison system at Sunnyside, he rushes right back to save them despite possibly facing certain doom. In ''4'', he goes to the same lengths to try and rescue Forky, but it gets {{Deconstructed}} in that his efforts are putting everyone else in danger.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:He willingly gives up his voice box to get Forky back.]]

Added DiffLines:

* HisOwnWorstEnemy: As devoted a toy Woody is to Andy, his desire to keep loving Andy drove him to extreme lengths to take Buzz Lightyear out of the picture when it seemed like the space toy was threatening his position. He ultimately acknowledges he was wrong, but ''Toy Story 3'' shows him what would have happened had he not realized his mistake in the form of Lots'o--a toy who broke because he couldn't accept being replaced and turned his anger on toys that had nothing to do with his abandonment.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: He chooses to use RC as a means to knock Buzz off the desk. He knocks Buzz out the window by mistake, and RC is quick to rat him out.
* HumbleHero: Thanks to four films of CharacterDevelopment, Woody had matured into a toy who sought only to make his kids happy, with no selfish interest on his part.
* HumblePie: Being replaced by Buzz as the favorite toy knocked his ego down a few pegs (to dangerously evil levels), but he mellowed out and became a lot kinder as a result.

** Buzz also calls him out on this when he nearly decides to go with the Roundup Gang to Japan. As Buzz puts it, all Woody will ever be doing is watching kids from behind glass and never being loved again.

Added DiffLines:

* ExperiencedProtagonist: On account of him being a very old toy, Woody is the most seasoned veteran when it comes to taking care of kids.

Added DiffLines:

** Surprisingly, it's his love for Andy. As much as he deeply cares for his kid's well being, his desire to maintain Andy's love has often been to his detriment. In the first film, his fear of losing it to Buzz led him to become increasingly jealous of the space toy, and nearly gets left at Sid's mercy because of it. Then in ''4'', his inability to move on from being Andy's toy leads him to taking increasingly desparate risks to please Bonnie, even after she stops playing with him, despite the risks it poses to his friends.

Added DiffLines:

* TheFellowshipHasEnded:
** By the time of ''3'', most of Andy's toys have been donated to new homes, leaving only him, Buzz, Jessie, Bullseye, Slinky, Hamm, Rex, the Potato Heads, and the Aliens.
** In ''4'', [[spoiler:he departs from Bonnie's room, with his friends' blessings, to spend his time with Bo Peep on the road.]]
* {{Fingore}}: A family-friendly variation. When he and Buzz are fighting under the family car, Buzz slams his helmet shut on Woody's fingers.

Added DiffLines:

* FriendToAllChildren: Woody's speciality is to helping make kids happy, whether it be for Andy or Bonnie, or even some random stranger who happens to find him. To him, there's no greater purpose for a toy that being there for a child.

Added DiffLines:

* TheGreatestStoryNeverTold: All of the adventures Woody has been on and the efforts he's taken to make his kid happy are something he can't share with his owners due to the fact it would break TheMasquerade. {{Deconstructed}} in ''4'', where he runs himself ragged trying to keep Forky from throwing himself away in the trash, and Bonnie has no idea that the toy she's all but forgotten about is making sure she has her newest friend with her all the time.
* GoalInLife: To be there for his kid, no matter what. [[spoiler:At least until the fourth movie, when he learns there's another way to live for a toy.]]
* GoKartingWithBowser: InUniverse, he's close friends with Hamm and Mr. Potato Head, both of whom are often used as the villains in Andy's playtime sessions. They're a lot nicer than they are during playtime (well, Mr. Potato Head [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold less so]]).
* GoodIsNotSoft: He's a typically nice fellow, but he won't take kindly to anyone threatening his friends. When Prospector knocks Buzz off the conveyor system at the airport, Woody goes ballistic on his captor.
--> '''Woody:''' '''HEY! NO ONE DOES THAT TO MY FRIEND!'''

Added DiffLines:

* HeartbrokenBadass: Sometimes it isn't easy being a toy. For all the efforts that Woody has gone to, the thought of being away from Andy in ''4'' has left him distraught, unable to figure out what to do with himself now that Bonnie's stopped playing with him.
* HeroProtagonist: He's a heroic toy who goes to great lengths to help his friends and his kid, and is the hero in the first four movies, even at his lowest moments in the first film.

Sure, Andy loves Woody, but Buzz has everything Woody doesn't: a crisp voice box with multiple phrases, pop-out wings, laser lights, a retractable helmet. While Buzz does have all the cooler accessories and features that Woody lacks (such as wings, a laser, and a voice box with more sayings), Andy still loves Woody all the same and cherishes the cowboy doll. Woody's problem is that he can't see past the fact that Andy's still playing with Buzz more, at least until his actions get him into trouble.

Added DiffLines:

* BigEgoHiddenDepths: Woody's jealous streak towards Buzz wound up going too far out of line, but it was built around the very deep worry that he had lost the love of his owner and his desperation to get it back, initially unable to recognize that he never lost it in the first place.

Rex is a plastic ''Tyrannosaurus'' toy. He has a huge inferiority complex because of his tiny arms. He constantly tries acting scary, but due to his timid nature, he can never pull it off, and constantly worries about getting replaced with a meaner dinosaur. In ''Toy Story 2'' he is seen obsessing over a Buzz Lightyear video game he can't beat. He is part of Buzz's rescue team, and when he comes face to face with Zurg, he manages to knock him down an elevator shaft. This results in Rex gaining some confidence in himself.

He is also a bit of a gamer, as he is seen playing video games in the second and third movies.
