* StrangledByTheRedString: While her affection to Basara does have some merit on its own, it would take much longer, if it occurs at all, without the rather heavy-handed enforced loyalty being delivered by the Master-servant pact. The rest of the harem have various motives and histories that bring about affection to Basara in a more natural manner.

* MamaBear: She's protective of her younger sisters.

* WhatTheHellHero: In Volume 7, Rukia chews out Rukia and Ramsus for threatening Basara because the latter called Ramsus out on his plans to extract Mio's powers, although neither Rukia nor Ramsus took that to heart. Later, she lectures Rukia for attempting to rape Kurumi, as well as Basara for leaving Zest in a truly untenuous situation, until she's made aware that Basara himself has no objections to Zest becoming his servant, and was only waiting for informed consent from both his harem, and Zest herself.

* AdaptationalHeroism: The anime makes her a substantially more sympathetic character than the light novel by both removing or downplaying her more objectionable actions like attempting to rape Kurumi, and threatening Basara for complaining about Ramsus's treatment of Mio, as well as increasing her positive actions, like giving her a considerably bigger role in the fight with Nebra and Gald's "heroic spirits."

* WhatTheHellHero: She does give out a few of these in Volume 7. She chews out Rukia and Ramsus for threatening Basara because the latter was complaining about how Mio was mistreated, although neither Rukia nor Ramsus took that to heart. She chews out Rukia for attempting to rape Kurumi. She even lectures Basara for leaving Zest in a truly untenuous situation, until she's made aware that Basara himself has no objections to Zest becoming his servant, and was only waiting for informed consent from both his harem, and Zest herself.

* MyMasterRightOrWrong: Almost to the point of MoralMyopia. She sees nothing wrong with Ramsus summoning Mio to the demon realm, to then stick her in a hastily converted storage closet and ignore her, then go on to threaten her life by extracting her demon power in a manner likely to be harmly hurtful if not fatal, all because Ramsus's orders. However, when Basara merely ''complains'' about it, she threatens Basara for "insulting" her master. Shella calls her out on this afterwards.

* WellIntentionedExtremist: Ramsus just wants to extract Mio's powers so that the latter can live a normal life as a human. That is, until [[ScrewDestiny Mio decides not to succeed Wilbert]].

* LaserGuidedKarma: Maria's perverted antics often end up backfiring on her.

* GoodPeopleHaveGoodSex: After her HeelFaceTurn and joining Basara's harem, wherein she becomes an officially good characer, her sexual excapades aren't about sexual gratification, although that is a fortunate by-product. No, she actively strives to ''make love'' to Basara and her fellow haremettes, and they all acknowledge it.

* HeroicSacrifice: Subverted. She provoked a lethal attack from Zolgia's fortress in order to buy Basara the opportunity to take out its core and stop its rampage. He pushes her out of harm's way as he's making his attack charge.

* AttemptedRape: In the early parts of Volume 7, after Zest joins Basara's harem, but before Nebra's attack, she's overcome by both lust and envy due to the fact that Kurumi is Maria's "toy"... er "special friend", and uses magic to both shred Kurumi's clothes and pin her to the ground before sexually forcing herself, ignoring Kurumi's protests. The only reason she stops is that Shella shows up, at the behest of Basara who is under house arrest for ''complaining about Ramsus treating Mio like dirt.''

* LackOfEmpathy: He initially doesn't care that much about his niece's well-being in extracting the latter's powers. [[WhatTheHellHero Basara calls him out on this]].
* TheNeedsOfTheMany: Ramsus uses this as an excuse for his initial very poor treatment of Mio. After seeing Mio take to the front lines and risk herself for the people, he changes his opinion.

* TheResenter: He understandably resents Mio because the latter inherited Wilbert's power instead of himself, and considers her unworthy of her title or inheritance. No wonder Basara's so upset with him. Fortunately, Ramsus gets better.

* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Him summoning Mio to the demon world gives Leohart the justification he needed to attack the moderate faction, by calling it a clear act of aggression. He even lampshades this while discussing the matter with Jin.

* YouCantFightFate: How he feels about extracting Mio's powers as Wilbert's daughter. It's eventually subverted when Mio decides not to succeed her father.

* DamselInDistress: She is taken hostage by Zolgia near the end of volume 3 in order to force her to turn Mio over.

* AdaptationalDumbass: In two ways. First, in the light novel, the discussion of meeting the step-sisters happens the day before, and when they get to the restaurant, Basara only greets those who approach the reserved table out of nervousness, until his father sends him to the restroom to "wash his face and calm down." Second, in the anime and manga, Basara walks in on Mio using the restroom because he wasn't paying attention to where he was going, and neglected the restroom's signage recommending patrons to knock first. In the original light novel, the signage concerning the lock for the ''public unisex'' restroom, was on the ''inside'' of the door and thus Basara had no way to see it, meaning Mio was entirely at fault for a) taking her chances in a restroom where men could legally enter at any time, and b.) not securing the door before lowering her panties. In either case, Basara's reaction of immediately turning around and trying to walk out was entirely appropriate, and Mio had no right to either scream or slap him when he tried to talk her down.

* AdaptationalWimp: In the anime, Nanao is shown to be ''slightly'' weaker than Basara when the two initinally blamed each other for the sabotage of the sports festival orchestrated by Sakazaki, and Basara was able to take Nanao down with a well placed sword swing. In the original light novel, Nanao was totally wiping the floor with Basara, and Basara had to expose his neck in a KillMeNowOrForeverStayYourHand way to prove his innocence. In either case, Nanao was clearly no match for [[spoiler: Ornis]].

* EntertaininglyWrong: He attacks Basara because he thinks Basara is just another "hero" like those who drove his race off their lands and to the brink of extinction, [[MoralMyopia after deliberately provoking incidents and then justifying themselves by saying the Vampires are a dangerous race.]]

* IllBoy: Nanao introduced as having a weak constitution, and Chisato voices concern about his condition.

* MindControl: Well, at least hypnotic eyes. Nanao is shown subduing Donoue's gang and making them extremely susceptible to Chisato's commands in volume 4 with a glare.
* OurVampiresAreDifferent: Nanao can and does easily pass for a normal human. At no point are sunlight, running water, or failure to eat human food an issue. In fact, Nanao is never seen drinking blood or needing a blood transfusion.
* PutOnABus: Shows up early on in volume 4. He then disappears from the story for quite some time after Mio and the others enter the demon realm.

* KnightTemplar: Ramsus intends to extract Mio's demon power so that she can live a normal life. He calls it off following Nebra's assault on the demon realm.

* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Despite his initial plans to extract Mio's demon power, he is very sound in judgment and is always willing to listen to Basara and his allies, as well as Jin.
* TheResenter: He initially resents Mio because the latter inherited Wilbert's power instead of himself, and considers her unworthy of her title or inheritance. No wonder Basara's so upset with him. Fortunately, Ramsus gets better.

* WouldHurtAChild: His plan to extract Mio's demon powers seems anything ''but'' harmless.

* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Despite his initial plans to extract Mio's demon power, he is very sound in judgment and is always willing to listen to reason.
