* ReallyGetsAround: To the point that this gets him ReassignedToAntarctica because he slept with an influencial merchant's daughter. Unfortunately, his drive to seduction puts him in the wrong place at the wrong time and leads to him being killed as part of an attempt to cause a political incident.

* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: During Silverthorn and Darkness at Sethanon, instead of sitting around and waiting for news, he goes and does it himself.

* BadassBoast: Gives a great one when he becomes Captain Trenchard in King's Buccaneer again.

* MultipleChoicePast: He likes to change his past a little over the years so the general story before meeting Arutha in Crydee during the Riftwar is a bit different. By the events of King's Buccaneer, he's changed it so he was a privateer for the Governor of Durbin.
* TheMentor: To Nicholas in King's Buccaneer along with Ghuda about the responsibilities of being a Captain and a Prince.

A boy thief who saves Arutha's life and becomes Squire for doing so and becomes a surrogate family member to Arutha and Anita. He wants to be Duke of Krondor and succeeds in the Serpentwar Saga. Marries Pug's daughter Gamina and has a family with her. He is one of the most central protagonists in the early books.

** One notable example is at the start of Krondor: Assassins after James and Locklear have spent a week taking restorative draughts that held off the need to sleep until it hit them really hard at the end of the week and are visibly exhausted.

* MyGreatestFailure: Being unable to stop Anita from being poisoned when he stopped an assassin from killing Arutha in Silverthorn, it's one of the few moments that cause him to have a huge HeroicBSOD.
* SmallNameBigEgo: As a adolescence, this is played straight and subverted, when he's first introduced, he's almost as good as he thinks he is and he quickly grows out of this mindset.

* TheReliableOne: He is Arutha's top agent and when sent to do something by Arutha, he alway succeeds and the entire Kingdom owes them his life more than once.

!!Nakor the Islani

* BagOfHolding: Nakor owns one. Turns out that it's just a tiny rift under a zipped off part of the bag that he accidentally made that leads to a fruit storage place somewhere.

Characters for ''Literature/TheRiftwarCycle'', currently incomplete. Beware of series-ruining spoilers, and LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters. Place a character in the trilogy they have an important role in for the first time. Due to their being the primary heroes that appear in every set of books, Pug and Tomas have their own sections.

* HeterosexualLifePartners: He and Tomas are this, even if they don't see each other as much as they'd like. They're able to tell if one another is dead and throughout all of the hell Pug endures protecting Midkemia, Tomas is the one person he trusts inexplicably and can always count on.

* NeverBeHurtAgain: While it is not outright stated, this is the reason that he went from rather naive and innocent to becoming a complete womanizer who does not care for the feelings of his partners. He fell in love with the first girl he ever slept with and wanted to take her home and marry her. The girl pointed out that this was silly and she just wanted to enjoy him for the night. Only a few moments later she was killed almost immediately afterwards by the first wave of the attack on Armengar. After this Locklear changes completely: he goes from being rather shy to sleeping around left and right, which got him ReassignedToAntarctica when he slept with the wrong woman. It also eventually costed him his life, though this is more because of a case of wrong place wrong time rather than a vengeful family member of the woman in question.
* ReallyGetsAround: To the point that this gets him PutOnABus because he sleeps with an influencial merchant's daughter. This ends up getting him killed because he was sleeping with the Empress of Kesh's daughter who was murdered as part of a conspiracy to overthrow the Empress.
