A hard lined NYPD cop who gained notoriety when he responded to a school shooting.

* ComicBookFantasyCasting: The man bears a ''striking'' resemblance Samuel L. Jackson.
* CowboyCop: Deconstructed to hell and back. He disobeys orders and kills a teen aged school shooter to save a gym full of kids but while the media loves it the department does their best to punish him for it, sending him to therapy where a condescending therapist implies that he sees himself as this trope, [[DefiedTrope which he denies.]] He feels no remorse for what he did and wonders if that makes him similar to the Punisher. Near the end of the story his wife is grievously and he tries to take the law into his own hands, but rather than being a [[SubvertedTrope badass vigilante he is simply acting out of range and helplessness]]. In the end, a brief encounter with Frank proves to him that they are ''nothing'' alike.
* NotSoDifferent: When Budiansky is criticized by the media for unloading [[ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill all but one of the bullets in his pistol]] while returning fire on the guy who shot his wife, Castle remarks that he understands.
** NotSoSimilar: By the end of his story arc, Budiansky realizes he's not some trigger-happy nutcase utterly consumed by rage like The Punisher. Castle himself recognizes this.
* TheStoic: His first act of notoriety was walking into an active school shooting against his superior's orders, killing the teen shooter, and feeling very little guilt about it. He says he'll have nightmares about it, but has no doubt he did the right.
** NotSoStoic: Justifiably becomes unraveled after his wife is shot by a gangbanger trying to kill him for his investigations. [[spoiler:Funnily enough, a short conversation with The Punisher reminds him that he's a good man after all.]]
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: He has a very strong independent streak, backed up by cold hard logic and a razor sharp investigative mind. When his bosses want to stop him out of caution or racism, he decides to do the right thing anyway.
* WouldHurtAChild: Played with. Although he did kill a teen killer to stop him from harming other children, he doesn't feel the least bit bad about it, and regrets nothing. During a therapy session his therapist tries to guilt him for this only for him to rebuff her with this: ''"That wasn't a child. He might have been when he woke up that morning, but the first time he pulled the trigger he grew up goddamn fast"''.

One of Frank's old neighborhood friends and something of a big brother surrogate. He's also a U.S. Marine and older brother of one Frank's closest friends, Lauren.

* BewareTheNiceOnes: Is a genuinely nice guy who loves his family, likes Frank and approves of Frank's close friendship with his sister. Harm his loved ones in any way and no power on Earth can protect you from his wrath, as Vincent Rosa finds out the hard way.
* BigBrotherInstinct: A downplayed example, that is until he learns what Vincent Rosa [[RapeAsDrama did to his sister]]. Then this trope is in ''full effect''.
* BigBrotherMentor: Towards a young Frank Castle. In fact he was partly responsible for the reason Frank decided to join the Marines later in his life.
* DeathSeeker: It's theorized by Frank that he may have developed into this after his sister's death. Which would explain why he continued going back for numerous tours of duty in the Vietnam War until he was eventually killed in action.
* PosthumousCharacter: Like many of the characters from Frank's old life, he's already been dead for years before the main series begins.
* SemperFi: At the time of the story, he's an enlisted member of the Marine Corps.

The father of Frank Castle. An Italian-American who served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, where he fought against the Japaneses in Iwo Jima. For the bravery he showed during his service to his country. He was awarded the Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star.
Sadly he passed away on the day that Frank considered enlisting in the Marines. Years before the series officially begins

* SelfMadeOrphan: Near the very end of the miniseries. While aboard a helicopter, [[spoiler:after his father Chris Angelone, has learned of Barracuda's betrayal, he plans on killing 'Cuda on the spot only for little Oswald to blow a hole through his head with a S&W Magnum. Thus usurping him as the head of the Angelone family.]]
