* TimeAbyss: Even more so than the Volkihar vampires, as he dates from before the fall of the Falmer at Ysgrammor's hand and their taking refuge with the Dwemer. That happened in the ''Merethic'' era.

* WarriorPrince: He was an officer of the Imperial army before he became a Jarl. And later on pretty much drove the Forsworn from Markarth single handed as well.
* WouldHurtAChild: Notable aversion: he's often stated as killing the child-king Torygg, though Torygg isn't an actual child so much as he's just very young for the title of High-King.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Just wants to see the Empire and Thalmor driven from Skyrim and the restoration of one of his people's most adored deity. If you win the war for the Stormcloaks, he fully makes it clear he intends to see Skyrim as glorious as it was when it was the heart of the First Empire.

* WeUsedToBeFriends: Served with Rikke during the Great War. Offers her the chance to stand down at the end of the Stormcloak Campaign.

* TimeAbyss: He recognizes Serana on sight.

* DifferentAsNightAndDay: He's the stronger of the twins, even regarding his [[spoiler:lycanthropy; he can withstand the bloody urges of his bestial nature better than his brother.]]

* AnticlimaxBoss: By the time you face him at the end of the Legion quest line, he's been hyped up as extremely dangerous and skilled in the Way of the Voice, but he goes down with a solid hit or two from a battle axe. His [[TheDragon Dragon]] is the real threat, though if Ulfric can hit you with his Thu'um, things get real complicated, ''real'' fast. The way the game is set up all levelable [=NPCs=] (which includes Followers and most major characters) are locked at the level at which they first spawn, unlike in ''Oblivion'' or ''Fallout 3'' where they dynamically level up as the player does. Since Ulfric shows up during the introductory cutscene, he's locked at ''level 10'' for the entire game. Galmar, in contrast, puts up more of fight because he doesn't show up until later, and thus is generated at a higher level.

* {{Expy}}: Of Cromwell, the preacher of the Children of Atom in ''{{Fallout 3}}'' who was likewise encountered singing the praises of his god in the center of the first major town you visit. However, Heimskr is ''louder'', and what he preaches make more sense in universe.

A Khajit apprentice in the same class as you in the College of Winterhold.

* FriendInTheBlackMarket: [[spoiler:He has connections with the Thieves Guild and will even act as a fence for stolen goods once the player gets far enough along in the Thieves Guild questline. He also sells the highly illegal and unethical Black Soul Gems.]]

* FriendlyEnemy: See Ulfric's entry. You're welcome to come into Castle Dour and chat him up despite being the reason why the Legion is almost routed from Skyrim. Taken further than Ulfric in that if you're a Stormcloak and on Avulstein Grey-mane's quest, you can request Tulius to release a Thalmor prisoner. He sarcastically tells you that it's impossible, but hey.

* ContinuityNod: His appearance his one, and in a bit of retcon, his death was not in Morrowind as inferred by the rumors in ''Oblivion'', but in Kvatch, during its destruction at the start of ''Oblivion''.

* OnlyInItForTheMoney: Quite possible with any Dragonborn, but comes out most when playing a Thief archtype combined with the right dialogue options. Especially if you join the Thieves Guild.

* Professional Killer: Very possible with a Dragonborn that joins the Dark Brotherhood. Can be most prevalent during your first meeting with [[spoiler:Amaund Motierre]]

* CoolSword: Dawnbreaker. A golden sword with what looks like a miniature sun embedded in the pommel [[spoiler: (which glows brighter the closer it is to an undead unit)]] that sets things on fire and sometimes makes zombies explode.

* {{Jerkass}}: She's rather rude and demanding, especially on your first meeting. She tricks you into a meeting and demands a demonstration to verify the Dragonborn's identity, but without giving you a reason why she should be indulged. If you decide to simply ignore her and leave, she'll mention she should kill you, but decided she won't. Justified, as she doesn't trust you and has the Thalmor after her head every sleeping and waking moment. Granted, she comes across as more friendly and humble if you talk to her about her background after proving your status as the Dragonborn, and isn't nearly as bad as, say, [[FalloutNewVegas Colonel Moore]].

Leader of the clan, and father to Serana. Seeks to fulfil the prophecy ending the "Tyranny of the Sun". Obsesses over this prophecy so much, he thinks nothing of sacrificing his own daughter to ensure it comes to fruition. His wife became his enemy as she sought to stop him. Harkon will offer to turn the Dovahkiin into a vampire lord as a reward for returning Serana to him.

* TheRival: With Orthjolf.

Leader of the Vigilants of Stendarr, she leads the militantly anti-Daedra sect from the Hall of the Vigilant, south of Red Road Pass.

* FantasticRacism: The sect is not very polite to Orcs, presumably because of their connection to Malacath.

* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler: Everyone in the Hall of the Vigilant, Carcette included, is slain by Volkihar vampires once ''Dawnstar'' is installed.]]
* KnightsTemplar: To protect the people of Skyrim, the Vigilants mercilessly kill Daedra, vampires, werewolves, witches, and others who "show disregard for life and mercy." [[spoiler:Volkihar vampires, however, are out of their league.]]
