* UnskilledButStrong: After [[spoiler:forging his own connection to the sky arcanum]], Callum is this. Callum has tremendous potential in learning magic. This is why Callum gained abilities and spells in a few days what likely took seasoned mages like Claudia and Viren years to master. By the end of the second season, he has achieved feats that haven't been done by a human in a century. That said, he had yet to learn fine control and had very little real experience using magic in a combat situation.

Doesn't qualify. See definition here: To qualify as a Creon, the character must have had at least one chance to take all the power for himself, and actively refused to do so, whether for altruism, cowardice, lack of interest in leadership, or any other personal reason. If there was no other choice, and the Creon did in fact have to take the top spot, he must have relinquished it voluntarily as soon as the actual leader returned. The Creon always gravitates back to the second spot on his own accord, rather than being forced to stay there by circumstances, etiquette or regulations.

* TheCreon: He advises Ezran on how to be king, though he does so in a more casual, laidback approach. In his final letter, King Harrow tells Callum he trusts him to support his half-brother's rule when he succeeds him to the throne.

The youngest knight in the Crownguard ever, who trains Prince Callum in sword combat. He is the son of Lord Viren and the brother of Claudia.
----
* AffectionateNickname: Claudia calls him "Sor-bear".
* AntiVillain: He and Claudia are only trying to stop the trio because they're led to believe that the princes don't know what they're doing, and they believe their father, Lord Viren, has good intentions. Soren is very troubled when his father basically orders him to kill Callum and Ezran.
* BadassNormal: [[AnnoyingArrows Takes an arrow from an elite elven archer to the shoulder, pulls it out, and keeps fighting like it was nothing]]. Just ''surviving'' the Moonshadow elves' assault while the moon is out would be enough to qualify, but once they're down to just Ruunan, he hardly looks worse for the wear.
* BigBrotherBully: A mild case, but he sits back and watches as a distracted Claudia almost walks into a tree. He grumbles at Callum being no fun when the latter warns her. He also picks on Callum too, but that’s about as far as it goes.
* BigBrotherInstinct: While he and his sister do butt heads often, when she comes back to their room in tears having told Callum the truth about King Harrow Soren is immediately up with his sword, demanding to know what Callum did to hurt his sister. He may tease her a lot, but he doesn't want to see her hurt.
--> "'Cause... you're my sister, as you know, I'm... always here for you, to... Punch someone, or... whatever you need."
* BlindObedience: Only questions Lord Viren when ordered to kill the princes. He's otherwise perfectly fine with his father stealing Callum's voice or ordering him to imprison a fellow soldier.
* CoolBigBro: Treats Callum like a little brother, complete with picking on him and [[PetTheDog going easy on him.]]
* ComfortFood: Possibly, after being ordered by Lord Viren to kill the princes, he is seen gorging out on several piles of pastries and acting nervous when Claudia questions him about his orders.
* DarkestHour: He (barely) keeps a jokey facade throughout, but getting paralyzed in Season 2 is clearly devastating for him. It drives Claudia to take her use of dark magic to a ''much'' graver level to heal him.
* DontExplainTheJoke: He tends to give the punch-lines of his obvious jokes. [[RunningGag Then everyone usually responds that they already got the joke]].
* DumbJock: He tends to act this way when interacting with Callum.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: His training with Callum, which showcases both his physical prowess and his tendency to poke fun at others by how he [[CurbstompBattle curbstomps]] Callum and wants to see his sister Claudia hit her head in a tree. [[EveryoneCanSeeIt But noticing that Callum wants to look good in front of Claudia]], he also shows [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold a more sympathetic side]] by playing along with him to impress her, as well as a goofy side in how he hams up his fake defeat by Callum.
* HiddenDepths: He's actually very accepting of the consequences of his mistakes. He knew attacking the dragon was wrong and was ready to face being paraplegic as payment for that error. He also doesn't like dark magic due to how disqusting sacrificing living creatures is and only goes along with it due to how much it helps his sister or when he doesn't know what it requires, like when Claudia never tells him she sacrificed the life force of a baby animal or that the spell corrupted her when she healed his spine, since the whole reason he was happy being paralyzed is that he'd never be responsible for something horrible again.
* HonorBeforeReason: Despite knowing how dangerous elves can be, Soren can't bring himself to hurt Rayla while she's asleep, telling Claudia that it wasn't "sporting" and asks her to wake Rayla up for a fair fight.
* ICantFeelMyLegs: After taking a hit from the dragon, he slams into a nearby rock and begs his sister for help. When she tries to get him to move, he tells her in a terrified voice that he can't move.
* JerkJock: He's a bit full of himself about his physical appearance and prowess and lazy, but he's a JerkWithAHeartOfGold.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite being rude to Callum and often bringing up how he was the king's [[InsistentTerminology step-son]] and not his real son, he was willing to go easy on him so he could impress Claudia. He also treats his sister very well, when not trying to mess with her, and the two get along just fine. Also, when the elves make their ambush toward the king's chambers, he protectively shoves Callum away from the danger.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: He is not aware that his father has told Claudia to retrieve the egg at any cost, even at the cost of Soren's own life. She keeps this information from him.
* NobleTopEnforcer: He's Viren's son and top man, but shows none of his father's malice or greed.
* PetTheDog: He may be a mocking instructor but it's evident he sees it as tough love and he lets Callum pretend to stab him to impress Claudia.
* SarcasmBlind: Rayla makes note of this in season 2.
* ShipTease: A minor one with Rayla. He thinks she's into him at first, but Claudia immediately tells him that Rayla's just suspicious of him.
* SiblingTeam: With his sister, Claudia.
* SwordAndSorcerer: The Sword to Claudia's Sorcerer.
* TakingTheBullet: He takes an arrow to the shoulder after pushing Callum's head out of the way.
* WellDoneSonGuy: He tearfully tells Claudia that he knows that he isn't as smart as Viren would like, so he really wants his dad to be proud of him one way or the other, which is why he was actually considering going through with killing Ezran and Callum.
* WouldNotHurtAChild:
** When his father tells him to [[DeadlyEuphemism "do the right thing"]] if he finds the princes alive, he expresses discomfort and reluctance.
** Played with in the first couple of episodes in season 2. While he's still uncomfortable with hurting Ez, he justifies things as "accidents" to make himself feel better.

[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/claudia_official.png]]
[[caption-width-right:180:''Dark magic is easy for her.'']]

->''"Unstoppable is just another kind of stoppable."''

A dark magic prodigy. She is the daughter of Lord Viren and Soren's sister.
----
* ActionGirl: A powerful mage who can always be trusted to carry out a mission.
* {{Adorkable}}: She may look like a BlackMagicianGirl, but functionally she's more a magic nerd, adorable awkwardness and all. Her first introduction shows her so engrossed in her book she would have walked right into a tree had Callum not warned her.
* AmbiguousDisorder: She appears to have some difficulty understanding and telling jokes and once was so absorbed in a book, she nearly walked into a tree. She also seems to have trouble with certain social cues and subtleties, such as assuming others will understand what her gestures mean. She also doesn't seem to have much restraint when it comes to sacrificing living creatures for her dark magic, something Callum thought was creepy about her even before their relationship got destroyed.
* AntiVillain: She and Soren are only trying to stop the trio because they're led to believe that the princes don't know what they're doing, and they believe that their father, Lord Viren, has good intentions.
* BadPowersGoodPeople: While she is an antagonist, Claudia is for the most part a good person. She is also very proficient at Dark Magic, a type of magic that takes the lives of of living creatures and turns it into spells. It is considered unspeakably vile by Elves and Dragons, even among humans it's not exactly well liked. The problem is that casting dark magic involves doing terrible things, and her increasingly difficult circumstances lead her to make more mortally questionable choices to the point in the season 2 finale where she tricks Ezran and syphons the life out of a baby deer to fix Sorin's spine.
* BigSisterInstinct: She protects Callum and Ezran when she finds them with Rayla and the Dragon Prince and thinks that Rayla is trying to trick them. When she and Ezran talk alone, despite what happened early in season 2 that would give either of them a good reason to not want to be friendly towards the other, Claudia is accepting and kind to Ezran throughout it all. She even reassures him that if he's having a hard time talking about his father that he doesn't need to say anything if it hurts him too much.
* BlackEyesOfEvil: Subverted. She has black eyes after performing dark magic, but she is far from evil, being the closest thing the villains have to a TokenGoodTeammate and being unaware of the malice in her father's plans.
* BlackMagicianGirl: She leans toward this trope while also having some LadyOfBlackMagic traits. She's actually a little older than Callum, and he has a crush on her, but she's still a teenager and [[DorkKnight a total dork]], despite also being elegantly dressed and a scarily-competent [[LifeEnergy Dark Magic]] prodigy.
* CallARabbitASmeerp: She's concucted a coffee-like potion that she calls "hot brown morning potion".
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Claudia's a bit... odd. Her father has to remind her that he "doesn't speak Claudia" when she starts getting excited over something.
* CrazyPrepared: Has a lot of items for her spells stowed in her bag, to the point where her brother asks in disgust why she carries certain things. However, the one time she doesn't have anything useful is when Soren's body becomes paralyzed.
* DarkActionGirl: Defied. She's working for her father (who's the BigBad) and can use dark magic, but she comes off as {{Adorkable}} and well-meaning.
* DarkIsNotEvil: She wears dark clothes and studies dark magic, but doesn't seem that bad, offering her brother some of her "hot brown morning potion" when she notices how sleep-deprived he was. She also is friendly acquaintance of the two princes, and protective of Ezran.
* DoesNotLikeSpam: If her reaction to Ezran's jelly handprints are anything to go by, Claudia doesn't like persimmons.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Her first appearance nearly has her walk face first into a tree that has been in the same spot for centuries. Her pragmatic, magical side is later quickly established when her father briefs her on the assassination plot on King Harrow.
* {{Gasshole}}: Her brother comments that her horse farted while he was downwind, and she gleefully replies it wasn't the horse.
* GeniusDitz: Despite being a prodigy on the magic arts, Claudia is eccentric and ditzy to a degree that her father has trouble accompanying her line of thought when she gets too excited. She is also prone to silly mistakes and is often distracted easily.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: When she uses her magic, this happens.
* GodzillaThreshold: When Soren is paralyzed during the fight with the dragon, Claudia takes her dark magic to a much more serious level -- sacrificing a living creature -- to heal him. Until then, all dark magic had been powered by preserved body parts. Directly taking the life of a magical creature was a grave step.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: When Callum tells her he wants to learn more primal magic but knows that you have to be born with that magic inside of you, Claudia cheerfully replies that that's one of the great things about dark magic. "You just take creatures that are born with magic inside and ''squeeze'' it out them!"
* LikeParentLikeChild: Draining the fawn to heal Soren shows that she is capable of making the same kinds of bloody life-or-death, calculus decisions that Viren is. Whether she continues down that path remains to be seen.
* LockedIntoStrangeness: In "Breathe", a lock of her hair turns white when she uses Dark Magic to suck the life force from a young deer and use it heal her brother's paralyzed body.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Her father has more sinister plans than what he lets on and has told Soren to kill the royal brothers if they are alive. She is not aware of this as Soren has decided to not tell her that.
* MissingMom: After their parents divorce Claudia was heartbroken after her mother left to return to her homeland.
* MulticoloredHair: Claudia is a brunette but her hair is colored purple at the tips.
* NotAMorningPerson: Probably the reason behind her creating her "hot brown morning potion", and she even grumbles to her brother to not talk to her until she's had her potion in the morning.
* PerkyGoth: She's a dark mage who dresses in dark clothing, but has a silly, cheerful personality.
* ShipTease: With Callum, and she teases him mildly in the second episode.
--> '''Callum:''' Did you say "adorable"?\\
'''Claudia:''' (''teasingly'') Did I?
** She and Callum even have a date where they [[AlmostKiss almost kiss]], but she pulls away, not being able to lie to Callum anymore and tells him about his father's death.
* SiblingTeam: With her brother, Soren.
* SkunkStripe: A stripe of her hair turns white after she uses dark magic to fix Soren's paralysis. It lasts until the episode's conclusion, suggesting it may be permanent.
* SwordAndSorcerer: The Sorcerer to Soren's Sword.
* ThickerThanWater: When forced to chose between catching Ezran and Zym to helping her brother who is in obvious distress, she hesitates for a moment between the two choices before running to her brother's side and trying to help him. She even goes as far as to sacrifice a young deer to heal her brother's broken spine, not caring that the spell nearly drove her to unconsciousness or that she now has a [[SkunkStripe permanent stripe of white hair]] from the stress. She admits that all she cares about was that her brother was going to be fine.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Unlike her father or brother, she sincerely wants to rescue the princes and is the only one LockedOutOfTheLoop about Viren’s true intentions to kill them.

[[caption-width-right:350:[[labelnote:Click here to see him before hatching.]] https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dragonprince.png[[/labelnote]]]]

The son of Avizandum, the deceased Dragon King. Believed to be dead by both humans and elves, the Princes of Katolis and the elven assassin Rayla discovered his egg being secretly held in Lord Viren's quarters and set out on a journey to return him to the Dragon Queen. He is hatched at the end of Season 1, and is named, presumably by his parents communicating to him prior to his hatching, Azymondias.
----
* AffectionateNickname: Ezran nicknames him "Zym" once he hatches.
* AllAnimalsAreDogs: He yips like a dog, and displays many dog-like traits like nuzzling people he likes, or raising himself on his hind legs while resting his front paws on someone's leg.
* AntiMagic: He seems to have some of these properties naturally, as he removes Rayla's binding, which was previously shown to be impervious to a [[HotBlade Sunfire dagger]].
* CurtainsMatchTheWindows: Zym has light blue scales and eyes.
* CutenessProximity: Claudia can't help but gush and squee when she first sees Zym, and everyone else openly admits that Zym is adorable.
* EggMacGuffin: The Dragon Prince is an egg that must be delivered back to his mother in order to possibly end the war between humans and elves; as such, it's the key to the plot. Averted at the end of Book One, where the egg hatches to reveal the dragon Azymondias.
* InnocentBlueEyes: Zym has blue eyes and has a playful, friendly demeanor.
* LastEpisodeNewCharacter: He is born at the end of the Book 1 finale, when it's told that if he does not hatch, he is likely to die.
* MeaningfulName: The Greek name "Ozymandias" was derived from the first half of Pharaoh Ramses II's regnal name[[note]]Usermaatre Setepenre[[/note]] "Usermaatre", which means "the Maat (Justice) of Ra is powerful". Ra and Avizandum are/were rulers of their respective people and closely affiliated with the sky (the sun for Ra and storms for Avizandum). The whole plot kicks off because the elves and dragons sought justice for Avizandum's murder and the destruction of Zym's egg.
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: Ozymandias is a name by which the Pharaoh Ramses II was known for. It's also the name of a popular poem about that same Pharaoh.
* NotQuiteDead:
** His egg was thought to have been shattered when his father was killed, but was actually stolen by Viren.
** He gets struck by a bolt of lightning, and seems to be okay afterwards, though he for a bit afterward sparks come out of his mouth when he yips.
* PleaseDontLeaveMe: While he can't speak, he is heartbroken to see Ezran leaving the party to become the king of Katolis, and Callum has to hold Zym in his arms to keep the Dragon Prince from following his little brother.
* SecondaryCharacterTitle: Zym is the title character of the series, but he doesn't hatch until the season 1 finale. And even then, more focus is placed on Callum, Rayla, and Ezran.
* ShockAndAwe: As a storm dragon, he can generate lightning. Being an infant, this is limited to an electrically-charged tongue. However, his potential appears to be far greater; at one point, Zym is struck by a bolt of lightning, and he isn't hurt.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: He looks like a tinier version of his father, Avizandum. However, Avizandum had yellow eyes, while Zym has blue eyes.
* TraumaticCSection: A variation. Due to the egg falling into ice water, his heartbeat weakens the longer he stays in the shell and they have to hatch him early. Luckily there seems to be no side effects.

* EstablishingCharacterMoment: His training with Callum,
which showcases both his physical prowess and his tendency to poke fun at others by how he [[CurbstompBattle curbstomps]] Callum and wants to see his sister Claudia hit her head in a tree.
He knew attacking the dragon
was why Ezran wrong and was ready to face being paraplegic as payment for that error. He also doesn't want like dark magic due to how disqusting sacrificing living creatures is and only goes along with it due to how much it helps his sister or when he doesn't know what it requires, like when Claudia never tells him in she sacrificed the water. Callum mentions life force of a baby animal or that the spell corrupted her when she healed his spine, since the whole reason he was happy being paralyzed is that he'd never be responsible for something horrible again.
* HonorBeforeReason: Despite knowing how dangerous elves can be, Soren can't bring himself to hurt Rayla while she's asleep, telling Claudia

Added DiffLines:

* [[LikeFatherLikeSon Like Father Like Daughter]]: Draining the fawn to heal Soren shows that she is capable of making the same kinds of bloody life-or-death calculus decisions that Viren is.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Downplayed. Callum has a tendency to be somewhat insensitive to the feelings of others and has been noted act like a "jerk", but not to the point he plays this trope straight. He's shown to be compassionate, brave, and protective of his loved ones, as well as having the humility to admit his mistakes.

** A case of [[BothSidesHaveAPoint both]] [[JerkassHasAPoint jerks]] have a point occurs between him and Rayla in "Through the Ice" -- on his side, Callum's distrust of Rayla isn't because she's an elf, but because he can feel she's hiding something from him and Ezran. !Main Characters
[[folder:In General]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mainchara.png]]

The main characters, a group composed by the two princes, Callum and Ezran, the prodigy elven assassin Rayla and the pet Bait. As of "Wonderstorm", the titular Dragon Prince, Azymondias, is added to the group.
----
* ActionDuo: Or Action PowerTrio. Rayla is an ActionHero with combat and weapons experience who often has to protect the ActionSurvivor princes, Callum because he's never been a good fighter, and Ezran because he's still just a kid.
* ChildrenAreInnocent: The reason why the main characters are so young. Not jaded enough by the war, they can still hold on to the belief that they can stop it, especially with the Dragon Prince in hands.
* ChromaticArrangement: Ezran is red, Callum is blue, Rayla is green. Fittingly Ezran is an AllLovingHero, Callum is a nerd, and Rayla is the only one with combat training.
* FantasyCharacterClasses: Callum is a mage, Rayla is an assassin. Ezran may have the beginnings of a BeastMaster or DragonRider, or going from a more low-key WordOfGod tease, the earliest onsets of a Ranger of sorts.
* FireForgedFriends: The group realizes that, before the importance of their mission and what they'll likely face together, they need to learn to trust and work with each other. This leads the princes to build an unlikely friendship with the elven assassin that gradually solidifies as the episodes of Season 1 progress.
* InterspeciesFriendship: An unlikely friendship between two humans, an elf, a glow toad, and later, a dragon.
* KidHero: The group is composed of these, with Rayla, the oldest, being only fifteen. Azymondias is the youngest, technically, having hatched at the end of the first season.
* SwordAndSorcerer: Rayla and Callum fill these roles respectively.
* WithAFriendAndAStranger: Callum and Ezran are half-siblings and friends ever since the latter's birth; Rayla is a stranger who joins them.

[[caption-width-right:235:''His bravery will be tested.'']]

->''"Art! Finally something I'm good at!"''

The older half-brother of Crown Prince Ezran of Katolis.
----
* ActingUnnatural: Callum has a gift for this. The more determined he is to pretend that everything is all right, the more overtly terrified he looks. In "Bloodthirsty", for example, he attempts to warn Rayla that they have company, in the form of an ''actual'' company of soldiers led by his CoolAunt, by putting just a bit too much emphasis on the words "human troops".
-->'''Amaya:''' [[HandicappedBadass (via interpreter)]] "Callum, you know it doesn't help to yell. And why are you saying 'human troops' like that?"\\
'''Callum:''' Uh, what do you mean? That's how I always say HEAVILY ARMED HUMAN TROOPS!
* AdoptedIntoRoyalty: Presumably through his mother's marriage. However, his father and brother don't treat him differently, and he is second in line to Ezran.
* AmplifierArtifact: The Primal Stone he steals from Claudia allows him to cast sky magic. When he smashes it to hatch the dragon egg, he loses access to sky magic. At the end of season 2, however, he forges a connection to the sky arcanum and is able to use magic directly.
* BeyondTheImpossible: Since humans are not born with an innate connection to one of the arcana, it was thought to be impossible for them to use Primal Magic without a Primal Stone. By the end of Season 2, Callum manages to forge his own connection to the Sky Arcanum.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Despite sometimes finding his brother a bit naive or annoying, he does love and care for him. When Rayla comes to assassinate Ezran, after running into Callum, he tells her that he is the crown prince Ezran. After she corners them in the hidden cellar, he protectively stands in front of his little brother and says, "You're gonna have to go through me."
* BlingOfWar: [[AvertedTrope Averted]]. Callum shows up to join an excursion in fancy looking armor. The captain, Soren, informs him that it's parade armor, three times as heavy as steel and only half as durable.
* BlowYouAway: Because he got the Primal Stone of the Sky most of the spells he uses are related to air in some capacity, like literally blowing things up, creating breezes and throwing lightning.
* BreathWeapon: One of his magical attacks consists of blowing on a symbol to create a strong gust of wind.
* CallingParentsByTheirName: Callum refers to his stepfather as "King Harrow" instead of "dad", because he feels he would overstep his boundaries since he's Harrow's stepson.
* CallingYourAttacks: He has to do this for his spells, as it's part of the casting. He spends a long time being able to only use half of the thunder spell for not knowing the word to launch it.
* ClassicalAntiHero: Callum has little confidence in himself. He is generally awkward and a bit cowardly, even if trying to do the right thing.
* CoolBigBro: Besides being [[BigBrotherInstinct protective]] of Ezran, Callum has shown a deep loyalty and love for his younger brother, always reminding Ezran how much he means to him and apologizing to Ezran when he crosses a line.
* DeadpanSnarker: Gets a lot of good quips in.
-->"We go way back! Like when you chased me through the castle trying to stab me. ''Good times.''"
* DisappearedDad: Harrow is not his birth father, but we don't know who is his natural father or what happened to him. As of Season 2, all we know about him is that he's dead.
* EnlightenmentSuperpowers: After learning of his DreamCrushingHandicap, Callum believes if he can gain an understanding of one of the Arcanums, he can draw on that specific power, basically forging a connection like the elves and magical creatures have naturally. After his vision quest from using Dark Magic, he realizes that the whole planet itself is like one giant Sky Primal Stone. He understands all there is of Sky and this allows him to use Sky magic without a Primal Stone.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: The first thing we see of Callum in the show is him drawing and vocalizing a picture of him coolly and heroically taking down a monster, which gives us the first taste of Callum's sense of inferiority and desire to be someone cool and amazing, while also showcasing the catalyst that proves as an example of why [[YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre he's really better than he realizes]].
* FingerlessGloves: Callum wear a brown pair.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: The Responsible to Ezran's Foolish. While Callum does his princely duties, Ezran is often stealing jelly tarts from the baker.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: In season 2, Callum does end up dabbling in dark magic, and like Claudia, his eyes glow purple.
* HiddenDepths: Near the end of episode 4, Callum demonstrates that he too knows ASL and uses it to convince General Amaya to let him, Ezran and Rayla proceed with their journey.
* IAmSpartacus: He tries to pass himself off as Ezran, to stop Rayla from killing his little brother.
* IgnoredEpiphany: When Callum declares to Lujanne he wouldn't give up on learning magic just because it was something hard, he lists of the skills he was expected to learn as the prince and how those skills were hard for him. Lujanne then asks if he didn't give up on those and eventually learned those skills as well.
--> '''Callum:''' [[FlatYes No]], [[HypocriticalHumor I gave up on those]].
* JerkassHasAPoint:
** After Rayla agrees to work with him and Ezran when they find the Dragon Prince's egg, Rayla states they should trust her, which Callum replies with sarcasm. He's on point given she tried not too long ago to kill him.
And he's right since she knew about their father's death.
** While he tries to put it as gently as possible, Callum initially doesn't believe Rayla's suspicions of Soren and Claudia because they've been his friends longer while he and Rayla don't have that kind of bond yet. It may be cold and both Rayla and Callum are obviously at the end, but he makes a fair point -- Rayla has yet to give evidence of the siblings' ill intentions and Callum isn't just going to trust someone (Rayla) he's known little over a week against people who he states are his childhood friends.
* LikeASonToMe: In Harrow's letter to Callum, he makes it clear that despite the two of them not being biologically related, he wholeheartedly believed Callum was his son and the only reason he kept a certain amount of distance was because he didn't want to replace Callum's birth father.
* LikeFatherUnlikeSon: Both his mother and stepfather where accomplished warriors but Callum is notably a poor swordsman which feeds into his insecurities.
* MeaningfulName:
** The Latin word for Sky is "caelum" and Callum is revealed to be a sky mage.
** In Gaelic, Callum means "Dove King", which could refer to his desire to make peace with Katolis' enemies and stop the fighting and bloodshed. In addition, doves are birds and also associated with the sky.
* MixedAncestry: As seen from Amaya's appearance, he is the setting's equivalent of Asian on his mom's side. This is part of the creators' goal to [[https://dragonprinceofficial.tumblr.com/image/178081754327 "[build] a world with greater racial representation than typical fantasy stories"]].
* NobleBigot: While Callum does want to end the war with the Elves and tries to reason with Rayla when they first meet on the CycleOfRevenge, he also displays this from time to time. When Rayla offered Ezran some moonberry juice, Callum reflexively declines believing that it was blood. When the trio meet up with Soren and Claudia, they are shocked that he is friends with an elf (Rayla), but Callum clarifies that she's a "''good'' elf", something that understandably upsets Rayla.
* PhotographicMemory: He copies the game room in the Banther Lodge from memory (reversing the usual joke of poorly made, inaccurate graphic depictions), and later two spells after seeing them only once each. He mostly uses it for drawing but it proves invaluable to his magic, as runes need to be drawn perfectly or they'll backfire. [[https://twitter.com/Giancarlo_Volpe/status/1089304472025673728 This]] character sheet by executive producer Giancarlo Volpe lists "Photographic memory" among his skills/feats.
* PrimaryColorChampion: He is the main character and fairly heroic figure that generally wears red and blue clothes.
* PowerCrystal: His magic uses the nature surrounding him as sources; during Book One, he gets his hands on a Primal Stone, an orb that allows him to freely cast magic that uses the Sky as a power source. In the Book Two episode "Breathe", he learns to do it without the Primal Stone, which was thought to be impossible for humans by many.
* PowersDoTheFighting: He freely admits he's not really capable when it comes to physical fighting, and it causes him some level of insecurity early on that he can only contribute to the fight with the [[PowerCrystal Primal Stone]], even when Ellis points out that the stone is just a fancy ball without him. Even after he starts tapping into other types of magic such as dark and forging a proper natural connection to use sky magic naturally, he doesn't have much fall back on physically if those aren't enough.
* ScarfOfAsskicking: Downplayed. Callum wears a red scarf and admits that he's a poor fighter...but he discovers his potential in magic.
* ShipTease:
** He clearly has a crush on Claudia, something Soren takes notice of and helps Callum out with by letting him beat him to impress her. Callum also talks about Claudia in his sleep. They even come close to [[AlmostKiss sharing a kiss]] in the second season. However, after Claudia betrays them enough times, his crush on her seems to be ebbing away. When she tells him that he needs someone experienced to teach him how to use the dark magic, he coldly replies "You already did".
** In the season 2 episode "Fire and Fury" when Rayla goes off on a dangerous mission to free a captive dragon, Callum is seen drawing her in his notebook. When asked about it, Callum simply replies that he draws when he's upset. Later, after he uses dark magic to help Rayla free the dragon, his use of this magic puts Callum in something of a fever dream. While he is comatose and in a continuously worsening condition, Rayla remains to watch over him as her worry eventually becomes a panic, and she almost confesses... [[AbortedDeclarationOfLove something]]... to him.
* ShockAndAwe: One of the spells he can do with the Primal Stone is to cast lightning. Because he starts out not knowing the trigger word, he can't do this spell all the way and initially is only able to hold a bolt of lightning without ever firing it.
* SquishyWizard: For most of his life, he felt like a failure because he couldn't live up to the martial skill expected of a prince. Then he tries magic for the first time, and turns out to be a natural at it.
* TheSouthpaw: It's subtle, but careful attention to how Callum goes about reveals that he favors his left hand (though it does flip-flop based on in and out of universe convenience at times).
* TeenGenius: He's 14 at the start of the series, and never studied magic, but within circa 2 weeks of casting his first spell, with the help of an AmplifierArtifact, he figures out how to connect to the Sky Arcanum without one- which was thought to be [[BeyondTheImpossible impossible for humans]].
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: Ellis certainly seems to think so of Callum; she see's Callum's worth beyond the powers granted to him through the Primal Stone, in spite of not knowing him very long chronologically. Though not as pronounced as in the scene with Ellis, Ezran seems to concur with the notion throughout the course of the first season.

->''"Jellytart?"''

The younger brother of Prince Callum, and the Crown Prince of Katolis.
----
* AffectionateNickname: "Ez", from Callum. Claudia also uses it, and in time Rayla starts using it, too.
* AllLovingHero: Ezran is very thoughtful and open-minded towards everyone he meets, as well as other creatures.
* AnimalEyeSpy: He can do this, and uses it to help Zym learn to fly.
* TheBabyOfTheBunch: Being the youngest of his group, everyone is very protective of him. However, Callum has brought up on more than one occasion how his little brother's innocence sometimes doesn't work in their favor.
* ButNowIMustGo: He decides to leave the group in order to return to Katolis and becomes its rightful ruler. While the others especially Zym are crestfallen by this, he says that he needs to take responsibility as the king.
* CharacterDevelopment: In the Book 2 finale, Ezran notes how he used to run away and hide when things got too scary or too difficult to handle, like when the assassins came or when hearing the news of his father's death. However, he realizes that he can't keep doing that now that he's king and decides to return to Katolis to fulfill his duties.
* CheerfulChild: Though he has [[WiseBeyondTheirYears a sense of profoundness to him belying his age]], overall Ezran seems to be quite cheerful, offering jelly tarts and frequently seen playing with his toad.
* ChildrenAreInnocent: He seems unaware of the wider war between elves and humans, and when Rayla arrives to kill his brother, he thinks it's just a misunderstanding that can be cleared up. Thing is, ''he's right''.
* AChildShallLeadThem: At the end of Book 2, he leaves the group to return to Katolis and take up his duties as king.
* CuriosityIsACrapshoot: [[InvertedTrope Inverted]]. The whole plot kicks off because he got curious and found the Dragon Prince egg.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: The Foolish to Callum's Responsible. While Callum does his princely duties, Ezran is often stealing jelly tarts from the baker.
* FriendlessBackground: Has trouble making friends because of his ability to speak to animals, and it's implied he does not have friends his age.
* TheHeart: Ezran tends to see only the good in people and is always there to help no matter what.
* InnocentBlueEyes: Both innocent and blue eyed.
* LeeroyJenkins: Zigzagged. Though subverting the letter of this trope, he's played the spirit of it straight on at least two occasions. First when he jumps into an icy lake to rescue the Dragon Prince's egg, and again when he confronts a scary spider to prove his instinct that it wasn't so scary after all. Both occasions give his companions a real start.
* MeaningfulName: Ezran sounds similar to Ezra which means "helpful".
* MixedAncestry: He is mixed-race, being black on his dad's side and Asian on his mom's, as seen from Amaya's appearance.
* NiceGuy: Ezran has a kind and pure heart.
* NotGoodWithPeople: He has trouble making friends and sometimes overlooks people to speak to an animal near them.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: For the most part, Ezran is quite cheerful, friendly, and understanding kid who hardly gets angry at anyone. However, upon hearing of his father's death, how long Rayla knew, and her use of "[[NeverSayDie fell]]" instead of "killed", Ezran gets truly, even ''coldly'', angry.
* RedIsHeroic: Ezran is a central character and dresses in red.
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: Ezran reveals in season 1 finale that he can understand animals. Callum does not believe him, something Ezran is a bit apprehensive of, until Ezran is able to communicate with a spider to make sure the group can get through a path.
* SupportPartyMember: As lampshaded in "Cursed Caldera" by both him and Callum, he doesn't do any of his own fighting, and his main contribution is handling [[LightEmUp Bait]]. By the end of the first book, he becomes Zym's handler, with what specific benefits to Ezran and in turn the group, aside from the broader one of being [[ThePowerOfFriendship friends with a dragon]], yet to be seen.
* SweetTooth: Ezran has a hankering for Jelly Tarts and spends half the season eating the ones he stole in the first episode. It's later revealed this is a trait he shared with his mother.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Jelly Tarts, as he's always seen eating them most. It was also his mother's favorite food.
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: Played in a more realistic fashion, in that he isn't some savant sage, nor is he world-savvy and beyond ignorance or naïveté. He's still very much the kid that he is. Nevertheless, Ezran shows a sense of perception and profoundness that does belie his age and upbringing as an overall sheltered prince. His instincts derived from his perceptions have proven to be spot-on on more than one occasion.
* WrongContextMagic: In a series where MagicAIsMagicA and humans discovering a seventh source of magic was enough of a shock to split a continent in half, Ezran's strange affinity with animals seems to be completely outside the magic system. Even Rayla, who comes from a magical continent, is in disbelief when she sees it. The fact that humans aren't supposed to have inherent magic at ''all'' makes it even ''weirder''.
* YouthfulFreckles: It's hard to see, but he does have freckles running across his face.

->''"An assassin doesn't decide right and wrong. Only life and death."''

A Moonshadow elf, sent to assassinate King Harrow and Crown Prince Ezran. She is very fast, strong, agile, and skilled in combat, but has never taken a life.
----
* AbortedDeclarationOfLove: [[ImpliedTrope Implied]]. While she tries to get Callum to stay with her during his dark magic-induced fever, she comes close to telling him something. However, when he finally opens his eyes they both scream and she aborts with whatever she was about to confess.
-->'''Rayla:''' I can't lose you like this, you mean too much to me! Callum, I... I... oh! Look, you're awake now!"
* ActionGirl: Rayla is an assassin with excellent speed, agility, and hand-to-hand combat skill.
* {{Adorkable}}: Quite frequently. Case in point: her [[HughMann human]] [[BadBadActing impression.]]
* AnArmAndALeg: Narrowly averted. Her binding spell continually constricts and damages her left hand, and she says it will continue to do so until her hand falls off. However, the newly hatched Zym thankfully rips the binding cuff off with ease.
* ArrowCatch: A variant. She is good at using her blades to cut and deflect arrows in mid air.
* TheAtoner: Part of the reason she wants to return the egg is to atone for her parents abandoning the Dragon King.
* BadBadActing: Her human disguise consists of saying that everything she does is "human", such as hanging out with her human pals and do human things, all with a hillbilly accent.
* BadLiar: After coating her blades in berry juice, pretending it's Marcos' blood, she walks off with a forced smile on her face, but her comrades don't pay her much mind.
* BlackSpot: Her left hand is bruising because of the magic ribbon on her wrist. This is because the mission was only half complete. While the other elves succeeded in killing King Harrow, Prince Ezran was their other target.
* BerserkButton: Like most elves, she has a very poor opinion of Dark Magic and when Callum uses it to help save a dragon she is quite cold to him afterwards for resorting to it.
* CatchPhrase: "Hello, fellow humans! Human fellows!"
* ChildSoldiers: Rayla's fifteen and the youngest of her group, but she's expected to carry out assassinations, on ''other children'', to boot. It's implied that this is an outstanding case, however, and Rayla was selected due to being a prodigy in speed and strength.
* ChildrenAreInnocent: Rayla is much younger and more innocent than her assassin peers. She does not feel good killing and hesitates to kill a human that would endanger her mission.
* CloseCallHaircut: After one of Amaya's troops shoots at her, she's forced to cut her braid off as the arrow pierces it into a nearby tree. However, Rayla's braid ends up helping Claudia and Soren track the group down.
* ConvenientlyAnOrphan: Both {{Subverted}} and self-{{Invoked}}. Her parents were supposed to be guarding the Dragon King and his egg, but when he was slain and the egg was lost, they fled. She'd rather believe that they were dead, since she feels that they showed weakness in running away.
* CoolSword: Two of them, modeled after the real-world balisong (butterfly knife). They can also turn into climbing axes.
* DeadpanSnarker: Especially when fighting Runaan. She also has a lot of back and forth with Callum.
* DualWielding: She wields a pair of swords. Said swords can also turn into scythes. Towards the end of Book 1 though, she slowly loses the ability to use her left hand, and is forced to use her right one, and therefore a single weapon, only.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Easily takes down a human patrol sentry and has him dead to rights, but is unable to go through with it and lets him leave. A skilled prodigy, but too merciful and innocent to take a life.
* FacialMarkings: One blue claw on each cheek. This seems to be a trait she shares with other Moonshadow elves.
* FragileSpeedster: Rayla is incredibly fast and makes quick work of her foes, but if she's faced with someone larger and more skilled than her, she usually has to run in order to not get pinned down or outsmart them in some way. Soren has shown to be able to take her down with just a kick.
* HeelFaceTurn: Rayla was sent to kill the King and Crown Prince, but ends up joining the princes when she realizes that the Dragon Prince is still alive and there's a chance to bring peace to all the nations.
* HitmanWithAHeart: Despite being an assassin prodigy, she can't actually bring herself to kill anyone, and geeks out (reluctantly) with the other kids.
* HornedHumanoid: Has two horns curling visibly from the top of her head. This is a Moonshadow elf trait she shares with her peers.
* HughMann: Her human disguise is nothing more than wearing a hood and gloves while she talks about how much she likes "the human things". It works until one of her gloves catches fire.
* InTheHood: She wears a hood when on assassin duty, such as when sneaking around the castle. She also wears it as part of her human disguise when the trio has to travel into a human village.
* {{Invisibility}}: As a Moonshadow elf, she can do this under a full moon.
* JerkassBall: When Callum is in a coma because of his use of dark magic, Rayla spends two episodes being angry at him for doing so even though he did it to save her life. To be fair, however, she still gives him doting care and throws in a gentle word of encouragement every now and again. [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]] when she begins to understand how serious Callum's fever dream, or dark magic coma, is after Callum begins having trouble breathing.
* JerkassHasAPoint:
** Rayla gives a very well-deserved WhatTheHellHero to Callum in "Bloodthirsty" when his plan to get them, Ezran, Bait, and the egg away from his aunt and her troops barely worked. Rayla points that not only did Callum hurt her feelings by calling her a "bloodthirsty elf" and a "monster", and she was nearly shot with an arrow.
** A case of [[BothSidesHaveAPoint both]] [[JerkassHasAPoint jerks]] have a point occurs between him and Rayla in "Through the Ice" -- on her side, Rayla accurately points out that because of her skill and experience, she could just take the egg from the princes, but doesn't because that's the point -- she's earning their trust.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: While Rayla is jaded and often tends to be self-righteous, she's also a brave and loyal friend with a strong sense of right and wrong.
* {{Lunacy}}: Moonshadow elves draw their power from the moon.
* MeaningfulName:
** Rayla sounds similar to Ray, which means "counsel." It also sounds similar to Reina which means "Queen" in Spanish.
** Also, her name brings to mind the phrase, a ray of light, referring to her being the next hope to ending the conflict between the humans and elves, as well as her being a Moonshadow elf. Also doubles as an IronicName, given "ray of light" and Moon''shadow''...
* MercifulMinion: Can't bring herself to kill Marcos, stating that she can't kill someone who hasn't done anything to her, even if they might endanger her mission. She is reprimanded and punished for this by Runaan.
* MinionWithAnFInEvil: She mentions to Ezran that she is an assassin that never managed to kill anybody. Ezran however says that this is actually a good thing, as she has spared his life in the process. In season 2, she confesses that she has been wondering whether she even wants to be an assassin at all.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: Is said to be the fastest and strongest of the elf assassins, but looks like a typical skinny girl.
* MysticalWhiteHair: Like the rest of the Moonshadow elves, symbolizing her moon powers.
* NobleBigot: Even after teaming up with Callum and Ezran, she does state how they are doing "silly, human" things while she, "the noble elf", fulfills their quest.
* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished:
** Rayla spares the life of a guard, allowing him to report their presence to the king and be punished by her squad.
** In "The Dagger and the Wolf", she decides to not hurt or steal from a man that is afraid of her. The man later gets the word out about the elf and leads an angry mob against her, Callum and Ezran.
* NoSympathy: Rayla is angry at Callum for using dark magic despite his saving her life, and spends her time in the last two episodes chastising him for doing so. [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]] when she realizes how serious Callum's fever dream, or dark magic coma, actually was; she ends up clutching Callum in a bone-crushing hug, begging Callum not to die.
* OurElvesAreBetter: Discussed. Whenever she's disguising herself as a human, she points out things that annoy her about humans, frequently using this "disguise" to call out a double standard or [[{{Hypocrite}} human hypocrisy]].
* ThePiratesWhoDontDoAnything: It's a major plot point that, despite being an assassin, she has never killed anyone and spared the life of the human soldier that should have been her first victim. Runaan says she doesn't have what it takes to be an assassin despite her skill because he doesn't think she can take a life.
* ProperlyParanoid: She doesn't trust a lot of Callum's ideas, mostly for good reasons since she's an elf in a territory where everyone would want her dead. She also always suggests that they keep moving instead of wasting time playing around. She was also right in not trusting Claudia or Soren when they want to "help" the princes. Claudia ends up using her magic to ensnare the prince's and trying to capture Zym, and she catches Soren in the act of attempting to hurt Ezran and figured out they were setting up a trap.
* PurpleEyes: One of the more subtle signs that she's not human.
* ReverseGrip: She is sometimes seen holding her twin blades this way.
* ShipTease: She nearly tells Callum something when he starts thrashing around in his sleep, gently putting her hand on his cheek and begging for him to stay with her.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Rayla's behavior regularly fluctuates between being an {{Adorkable}} GenkiGirl and a jaded JerkWithAHeartOfGold depending on the situation and whatever mood she's in.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: She hates riding boats and gets seasick easily. She ends up admitting that she's afraid of the water.
* WorfHadTheFlu: Thanks to the binding slowly crippling her left hand, she's not as effective in fights during the latter half of Season 1 as she should be. Also doubles as a DramaPreservingHandicap. After it's cured at the end of the season, she repeatedly revels in having two good hands again.

!!Bait

[[caption-width-right:350:''Grumpy, but loyal.'']]

->''"Say hello to my little friend!"''
-->--'''Ezran'''

A glow toad that Ezran is fond of.
----
* AllAnimalsAreDogs: As seen in the opening LogoJoke, Bait pants like a dog when he's particularly happy. He generally averts this Trope, however.
* ColourCodedEmotions: Is shown to change his skin color based on his mood.
* DrivenByEnvy: Not to the extreme as this trope is, but Bait has displayed his moments. He's usually rude to Zym, pushing him off of things, or trying to take his spot where Zym would be placed. Most of this has to do with Ezran becoming closer to the Dragon Prince, leaving Bait in the shadows, or he doesn't like that Zym is taking his place as the TeamPet.
* LightEmUp: He can emit [[BlindedByTheLight blinding]] light when necessary.
* MeaningfulName: Glow toads are used as bait to catch fish, which was why Ezran doesn't want him in the water. Callum mentions that it was King Harrow who came up with the name, and in that same episode, a large sea monster attempts to attack and eat Bait.
* MixAndMatchCritters: He looks like a fusion between a bulldog and a frog or toad. So... [[{{Pun}} a bullfrog?]]
* PerpetualFrowner: Rarely drops his grumpy looking face. You're most often see Bait averting this during a moment in [[LogoJoke opening]] VanityPlate that begins each episode.
* ThePowerOfTheSun: The sun symbol on Callum's magic-tracking cube glows when near Bait.
* TeamPet: Acts as this to Callum, Ezran, and Rayla.

!!Azymondias, the Dragon Prince

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/azymondias.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:[[labelnote:Click here to see him before hatching.]] https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dragonprince.png[[/labelnote]]]]

The son of Thunder, the deceased Dragon King.
Ra and Thunder are/were rulers of their respective people and closely affiliated with the sky (the sun for Ra and storms for Thunder). The whole plot kicks off because the elves and dragons sought justice for Thunder's murder and the destruction of Zym's egg.
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: Ozymandias is a name by which the Pharaoh Ramses II was known for. It's also the name of a popular poem about that same Pharaoh.
* NotQuiteDead:
* StrongFamilyResemblance: He looks like a tinier version of his father, Thunder. However, Thunder had yellow eyes, while Zym has blue eyes.
* TraumaticCSection: A variation. Due to the egg falling into ice water, his heartbeat weakens the longer he stays in the shell and they have to hatch him early. Luckily there seems to be no side effects.
