Originally robbed of their victory due to Dan & Jordan cutting in line (though the actual cause of their defeat being an inability to figure out one of the clues in the final leg), the cowboys returned to settle their business. However, the tougher tasks and competition exposed their original season's weak field and they got by solely on physical strength. They were ultimately done in by Jet being the only one to have to re-run Lichtenstein to measure it, putting them so far behind that they could not catch up. A U-Turn at the end of the leg sealed their fate in 6th place, the last remaining Final 3 finisher to go out.

In contrast, they won one leg win after a mostly strength-based dinosaur-assembling Roadblock.

The idea of a "second chance" season had been one that consistently floated around the fanbase since the early years of Series/TheAmazingRace (with some fans even preferring a "No-Stars" season to "All-Stars"), since even early out teams managed to garner plenty of fans and many teams with potential fell by the wayside after only one bad leg. The producers of the Race thus responded with Unfinished Business, a season featuring returning contestants from Seasons 12-17 that had never won before (though in the original All-Stars, the only former winners cast were Uchenna & Joyce). Though there were complaints, ranging from the lack of Season 13 representation. to the over-representation of Season 14, to skepticism of the premise which pitted early outs against Final 3 finishers, the teams, save for Amanda & Kris, were the names people generally expected to see back regardless of what they thought of them personally. The result was surprising, with the mostly even skill-sets of the teams causing them to shoot up and down the standings from leg to leg. The former Final 3 finishers faltered, finishing in 6th through 9th places and only winning 2 legs, while the teams who won the most legs originally finished 6th and 8th (combining for zero wins in their previous seasons), with the eventual winners being a team who few would have bet on even while the season was running. Though the season had flaws, most glaringly the domination of answer-sharing alliances which rendered many of the puzzle tasks almost moot, the experiment was generally considered a success, especially since it had the increased level of difficulty that was missing from All-Stars, and included one of the best finales in the series. It left several fans anticipating a similar season in the future.

Eliminated after their breakdown caused by Kent having stick-shift driving issues in Italy (though the direct cause of their elimination was U-Turning a team ahead of them in the next leg), the best-dressed team were back in pink and black. Previously eliminated (supposedly) for Jen's infamous PottyEmergency, the athletic sisters were back, this time with Jen prepared to pee in her pants if necessary. They returned as a more efficient and prepared team, having worked out their SiblingRivalry and Jen's fear of water that held them back in their previous season. Unfazed by their fellow Season 14 representatives going out early, they took it as even greater motivation to win it for the season. They stayed under the radar, doing just well enough to guarantee survival into the next leg, until they rushed to claim the big prize in the final leg. Fittingly for Mother's Day, they planned to use the money to help their single mother start a business.

The result was surprising, as the Final 3 finishers faltered while teams that finished in low positions dominated the season, with the eventual winners being a team who few would have bet on even while the season was running. Though the season had flaws, most glaringly the domination of answer-sharing alliances which rendered many of the puzzle tasks almost moot, the experiment was generally considered a success and left several fans anticipating a similar season in the future.

The idea of a "second chance" season had been one that consistently floated around the fanbase since the early years of TheAmazingRace Series/TheAmazingRace (with some fans such as Adam-Troy Castro, the writer of the anthology book My Ox is Broken, even preferring a "No-Stars" season to "All-Stars"), since even early out teams managed to garner plenty of fans and many teams with potential fell by the wayside after only one bad leg. Though the season had flaws, most glaringly the domination of answer-sharing alliances which rendered many of the puzzle tasks almost moot, the experiment was generally considered a success success, especially since it had the increased level of difficulty that was missing from All-Stars, and included one of the best finales in the series. It left several fans anticipating a similar season in the future.

Because of the nature of the season, all teams are examples of MyGreatestFailure (which is listed in their character bios) and MyGreatestSecondChance.

* DarkHorseVictory: Considering how mediocre they were as racers in their original season, they were not expected to get very far, and even during the race, their only average performance looked unimpressive compared to the multiple leg wins of Zev & Justin and Gary & Mallory. !! [=LaKisha=] "Kisha" Hoffman & Jennifer "Jen" Hoffman (Season 14, 4th Place)

* AlwaysSecondBest: Until the last leg.
* AnnoyingLaugh: Kisha's nervous laugh returned in full force, this time while exchanging banter with the Globetrotters.
* DarkHorseVictory: Considering how mediocre they were as racers in their original season, they were not expected to get very far, and even during the race, their only average performance looked unimpressive compared to the multiple leg wins of Zev & Justin and Gary & Mallory. This might have even been a deliberate strategy, as they constantly chanted "First place when it counts" at the start of the final leg.
* HeelFaceTurn: Without the drama from their previous season, they were portrayed more positively, with Jen even apologizing for her part in the fight with Luke.
* NoDamageRun: Flight Time even credited them with this, saying they were never first, but never at the bottom either.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: Or so it seemed....
* SiblingRivalry: This only resurfaced once in Varanasi, India, but generally wasn't an issue in this race.
* TookALevelInBadass: They showed what they could do without inter-team bickering and crippling phobia dragging them down. In a post-race interview, they claimed that the only thing they specifically did to prepare was that Jen took swimming lessons, which meant most of the leveling up was in attitude.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Flight Time & Big Easy. Given their respective sporting backgrounds, it naturally involved a fair amount of TrashTalk.

!! Herbert "Flight Time" Lang & Nathaniel "Big Easy" Lofton (The Globetrotters) (Season 15, 4th Place)

Eliminated for Big Easy being unable to unscramble "Franz", they returned to trot the globe again. Out of all the teams, they benefited the most from the alliance-dominated season as their charisma helped them stay in the pack. Initially the dominant team in the final leg, Kisha & Jen passed them by when they stopped to ask for directions, and they were unable to catch up during the trailer-setting task or the Seven-Mile Bridge ride, finishing in 2nd.

* ClothesMakeTheLegend: Zev & Justin even wore Globetrotter shirts in tribute.
* HairTriggerTemper: Big Easy went berserk when Vyxsin claimed that the chocolate mold Flight Time took was hers, not even stopping to consider whose it actually was.
* Leitmotif: Sweet Georgia Brown returned with them.
* TheLoad: They rarely completed a puzzle on their own, mainly getting the answers from others (especially their fellow season-mates Zev & Justin). When they screwed up the Lichtenstein-measuring Roadblock, they lost no time due to the answer-sharing.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Kisha & Jen.

!! Gary Ervin & Mallory Ervin (Season 17, 6th Place)

Originally eliminated for getting lost for 8 hours in Oman, the Kentucky father-daughter duo returned to spread sunshine once again. As one of the two strongest teams of the season with three leg wins, including the Express Pass, they were one of the favorites to win until a bad cab driver completely put them out of contention in the final leg, finishing 3rd.

* CallBack: Mallory complained about how the Race always had to involve manure in Varanasi, India, with a flashback to her shoveling crap in Russia from her original season.
* CoolOldGuy
* DaddysGirl: Gary even gave a speech at the finish line about how it touched him that Mallory would stick around to run the race with him at an age when kids tend to leave the home.
* GenkiGirl: Even more apparent without Brook to overshadow her.
* MotorMouth: Phil had to tell her to stop talking and go after the first leg (which turned out to be a double-leg).
* PerpetualSmiler: Especially apparent in Mallory's "angry" declaration that she hated everyone for faking her out at the Kolkata, India clue box.

!! Zev Glassenberg & Justin Kanew ([[Characters/TheAmazingRace15 Season 15, 9th Place)

Previously unable to continue without Zev's lost passport, the wisecracking duo came back, this time remembering to keep their passports with them at all times. Despite having the lowest position going into the race, they won the most legs: 4 of them, including one in which they beat a flight delay to come out on top. Unfortunately, they were defeated by the tasks in Rio de Janeiro, with them settling for 4th place.

* BornUnlucky: Brazil was very ill-suited to them. Zev had to take the Roadblock for this leg, and his lack of coordination hurt him in performing the samba. Then they got a waxing task which was torture due to their hairy physiques. Finally, they were faced with a Detour between a caipirinha-making task which gave them little chance to catch up or a bikini-selling task (in which the buyers had to change into them on the beach) which would be virtually impossible for most people, let alone a guy with Asperger's Syndrome.
* CallBack: They wore Globetrotters shirts to the starting line.
* CaptainObvious: Zev called the woman instructing the racers on making the chocolate molds this. Considering his Asperger's Syndrome, he probably didn't realize how rude that came off.
* HonorBeforeReason: They constantly gave Flight Time & Big Easy answers to the tasks while getting little in return (one of the returned "favors" was a flight which turned out to be delayed) simply because of their inter-season alliance.
* IncrediblyLamePun: Zev's specialty, with lines such as "I'm not very fond-ue of your fondue" and "I'm artistic. And autistic."
* InspirationallyDisadvantaged: The competition-focused nature of the season meant Zev's Asperger's Syndrome only came up as the subject of jokes.
* TheLoad: Zev's concentration issues led to him struggling with most of the Roadblocks he was given and Justin complained about him not helping enough with digging during the Search or Rescue Detour in the Matterhorn. The long-trailing Kent & Vyxsin even managed to catch up to them due to Zev breaking down at the charms Roadblock in Lijiang, China.
* SelfDeprecation: Again, Zev constantly made quips about his Asperger's. Also, during their first leg win (and more off-screen), he joked about not forgetting his passport this time.

!! Kent Kaliber & Jennifer "Vyxsin" Fiala (The Goths) (Season 12, 5th Place)

Eliminated after their breakdown caused by Kent having stick-shift driving issues in Italy (though the direct cause of their elimination was U-Turning a team ahead of them in the next leg), the best-dressed team were back in pink and black. Unfortunately, it seemed like they never recovered from the Italy incident, as most of their racing talent seemed to evaporate (they were overjoyed to come in 3rd, a far cry from their AlwaysSecondBest days). They degenerated into a fighting dating couple and bumbled their way into 5th place, finally being put out of their misery by a penalty for taking a cab instead of walking to the Pit Stop.

* MyNaymeIs: Vyxsin continued this, but Kynt changed his name back to Kent in respect for his recently deceased father.
* NoSenseOfDirection: They drove for hours in the wrong direction in Japan. Unlike their previous season, they didn't even have the excuse of it being a particularly difficult drive, as it was to a production-arranged flight.
* TheLoad: Kent ended up becoming as wussy as Adam from Season 6, screaming in horror at a closed door and having to be carried by Vyxsin in a cart.
* ReadTheFreakingClue: It even had a precedent: Heather & Eve's infamous elimination in Season 3.
* TookALevelInJerkass: Both of them spent the race constantly sniping at each other.

!! Jet [=McCoy=] & Cord [=McCoy=] (The Cowboys) (Season 16, 2nd Place)

* CatchPhrase: "Oh my gravy" returned.
* DumbMuscle: Even more so in a stronger field. They were last to arrive at the Pit Stop in the first half of the double leg due to Jet struggling with the nautical flags Roadblock and they made many bad flight planning errors which put them at the back of the pack. In contrast, they won one leg win after a mostly strength-based dinosaur-assembling Roadblock.
* Leitmotif: Their heroic cowboy theme played on and sent them off during their elimination.
* LonersAreFreaks: They constantly isolated themselves from the other teams and their strategy suffered for it. In fact, one of their bad flight decisions was partially due to not checking which flight the other teams were on.
* SoreLoser: Jet is noticeably less than enthusiastic at the Finish Line.

!! Ronald "Ron" Hsu & Christina Hsu (Season 12, 2nd place)

Originally defeated due to Christina's breakdown at her season's Final Roadblock, the father-daughter pair returned with the real truth flavor. The tougher field and competition highlighted how Ron's immaturity and constant nagging hindered the team, and they went out in 7th after Ron was unable to find the holy men for a long time in India.

* AesopAmnesia: Ron seemed to forget about treating his daughter better, as he constantly berated Christina and others around him. Phil Keoghan expected that this might happen due to the increased pressure.
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: Ron constantly stopped for snacks in China against Christina's insistence.
* CuttingTheKnot: During the needle-in-a-haystack tea-tasting task, Ron simply sniffed for the correct flavor and thus finished the task first.
* HolierThanThou: Ron lectured about Mallory's supposed faults to the camera after they aligned to finish the kangaroo task.
* InsaneTrollLogic: Ron somehow thought that the holy men being "in their element" meant being at the beach at the outskirts of the city.
* TheLoad: Ron, even more so than before. Christina constantly having to control his crazy behavior stood out more in a stronger field and they were never the same threat they were originally.

!! Margaret "Margie" Adams & Luke Adams (Season 14, 3rd Place)

Previously losing due to Luke breaking down at his season's Final Roadblock, the Bionic Woman and Sinister Deaf Kid returned with Luke vowing to not make the same mistake twice. Though dominant in their original season, they were surrounded this time by strong teams from other seasons and thus performed only middlingly until Luke broke down at the tea-tasting task, finishing 8th.

* BigYes / BigNo: Luke, first for winning the China leg, then realizing that it was a double-length leg.
* CallBack: Luke wore a "The Sinister Deaf Kid" T-Shirt at the finish line.
* Determinator: Luke drank tea for 4 hours. Not as easy as it looks, especially due to the risk of water intoxication after a certain point.
* HistoryRepeats: Luke broke down at a Roadblock despite promising he wouldn't this time in the pre-race interview.
* InspirationallyDisadvantaged: With the competition focus of this season, Luke's deafness was rarely directly brought up.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: Despite being a SpotlightStealingSquad in their original season, their only average racing performance was overlooked in favor of Zev & Justin, with Zev even having a similar InspirationallyDisadvantaged hook to emphasize this. Phil isn't even shown signing his race positions every leg.

!! Jaime Faith Edmondson & Cara Rosenthal (The Cheerleaders), (Season 14, 2nd Place)

Originally unable to reach the finish line first due to a bad cab driver (though Jaime struggling at the Final Roadblock didn't help), the cheerleaders were back in red. On a tougher course, they struggled to keep up with Jaime anticipating their elimination at any moment. They got it in 9th place when Jaime struggled to complete the dinosaur assembly Roadblock.

* DimishedVillainThreat: They didn't even place above 6th, in contrast to their AlwaysSecondBest performance in their original season.
* FieryRedhead: Jaime was actually very subdued since she did not like her portrayal in her original season.
* MsFanservice: Jaime even brought up her Playboy Playmate status while in a kangaroo suit and Mallory got the locals at the Frog of Luck Detour excited by announcing their eventual arrival in the skimpy outfits.
* NoSenseOfDirection: In Japan, with their alliance-mates Margie & Luke leaving them behind during the leg as a result.

!! Mel White & Mike White (Season 14, 6th Place)

Eliminated before due to being taken to the wrong location instead of the Phuket Zoo, the father-son filmmaker pair returned to savor more of the world. Due to his age, Mel was ill-fit to run the strenuous race, and they had to be treated for hypothermia during the Frog of Luck Detour and sent directly for elimination in 10th.

* Determinator: Mel refused to quit at the Frog of Luck Detour even well into the night, leading Mike to claim that sometimes you have to quit for such people.
* TheLoad: Mel due to his age, but Mike didn't help by constantly insisting on quitting and putting minimal effort at the Detour.
* MercyKill: Emphasis on mercy, as the "kill" might have spared Mel's life.

!! Amanda Blackledge & Kristopher "Kris" Klicka (Season 14, 8th Place)

The first victims of the Blind U-Turn, the attractive couple came back to see how much further they could go. As fate would have it, they were the last team to figure out QANTAS at the Starting Line Task and were thus U-Turned again. They became the first outs in place of one of the more popular teams.

* HistoryRepeats
* TheLoad: Amanda again did little to contribute at the Detour, though at least she did their only Roadblock.
