Goering retconned stuff. Commenting out most of the old lore; they would be either deleted or returned depending on what the devs reveal next of him. Also coup stuff should be in Schorner.

* AllohistoricalAllusion: Most of his superweapon projects are based on real life Cold War-era projects. Herr Bombe, which involves making big nukes, is based on [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsar_Bomba Tsar Bomba]]. The North Sea Monster hydrofoil/super-heavy aircraft project is based on the [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caspian_Sea_Monster Caspian Sea Monster]] ground effect vehicle. Even the [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kugelpanzer Kugelpanzer]] and the [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_gun Sun Gun]] have real life bases.
* AppealToForce: Goering uses brute force as his solution to every problem he's facing.
* BiggerIsBetter: When he's not developing weird wunderwaffe projects, most of his science tree focuses on simply making the existing weapons bigger. Bigger tanks, bigger nukes, bigger planes.
* BloodKnight: Göring believes that Germany should be at a constant state of war and strive for complete world hegemony.
* CultOfPersonality: As Führer, Göring establishes a Stalin-like cult of personality.
* FatBastard: Goering is still fat and mean, ruling Germany as a warmonger.
* FatIdiot: Pre-rework Göring knows how to oppress citizens and wage war, and that's about it. When it comes to science, he only cares about the parts of science that expand Germany's military prowess and crazy wunderwaffe that [[AwesomeButImpractical look cool and might not actually work]]. Even that doesn't come close to Göring's economy plans however, which is an ''absolute disaster'' of stupidity.
* KillSat: Göring's pet wunderwaffe project is the Sun Gun, a massive satellite system with high powered solar panels intended to burn enemies from space. Whether it works however is another question entirely.
* OperationBlank: His world conquest plan is organized through a long series of these.
* {{Ponzi}}: Göring's economic tree is effectively just him scamming everyone below him by rewriting laws and giving empty promises, taking everyone's money to supply his own needs. The system is so broken that the only reason the German economy doesn't instantly collapse under him is because he constantly invades and pillages other countries. Once his wars stop, his economy crashes too.
* ThePurge: After Göring wins the civil war, his first step of establishing full control of Germany is to purge all dissenters via the now-bloodthirsty military.
* RecoveredAddict: At some point, Göring managed to beat his morphine addiction and stabilize both his physical and mental state.

* TemptingFate: Some of the focuses in Göring's Germany have names like "Who Knew Economics Was So Easy?", showing that Göring is completely unaware of how bad his plans are and believing that they absolutely won't backfire horrifically.

Much like in real life, Ulrike Meinhoff is a far-left radical who hopes to bring about a communist revolution. While attending college during the socially turbulent 1950's, she and her friends took a keen interest in Marxist-Leninist principles. Initially a supporter of Speer, the beginning of the anarchy spurs a clique of like-minded young communists led by her to turn against him. If the DSR successfully crushes all the other participants in the civil war, Meinhof finds herself as the general secretary of a massive, war-torn country. It's all downhill from there.

The popular conception of Speer doesn't have anything with his TNO self; it has been said by Word Of God that his actions are at least partially motivated by his regrets for his past actions

* ALighterShadeOfBlack: Although Speer is the best candidate to lead the Reich, he's still an avowed fascist who made extensive use of slave labor to aid the Nazi war effort, just as he did in real life. In this continuity, he took it even further and helped to establish a codified slavery system for the entire Reich. It's unclear how much of his drive for reform is rooted in genuine remorse or a pragmatic desire to save the Reich from destruction. The popular perception of Speer as having been a "good nazi" is a highly dubious one, as the regret he expressed at his trial was likely a calculated ploy to avoid receiving the death sentence.

Speer gathered a wide and varied range of supporters during the German Civil War, including liberals, reformists, and radical student activists. The far-left student radicals, initially the most ardent supporters of Speer, would find their relationship with Speer slowly sour, and eventually totally crumble as the war collapses into the hellish German Anarchy. Now considering Speer to be no different from the other Nazis they're fighting against, the students attempt to hijack his forces and institute their new, revolutionary leadership. They would proclaim the Deutsche Sozialistische Republik (German Socialist Republic), a new Germany where Nazism would be totally eradicated. From the fires of revolution, a red beast that would eradicate Nazism from the face of the earth was birthed.

The Deutsche Sozialistische Republik (German Socialist Republic) is a possible successor state to Nazi Germany in the event that radical communist students take control of Germany should the German Civil War go horribly wrong and collapse into anarchy. The DSR absolutely opposes Nazism and wishes to eradicate Nazism, but their rule of Germany is a highly dysfunctional one. Things go bad. Very, ''very'' bad.

Added retcon info for Bormann and Goering

* {{Retcon}}: Bormann has been reworked since the dev diaries, changing him from a pig-headed idiot unaware that anything is wrong with the Reich's systems to a cautious conservative who is willing to do the bare minimum changes necessary to keep the Reich afloat. However, popular support for his token reforms may get out of hand and lead to his power being stripped by the reformists.

After a series of stunning victories against France, the Soviet Union and the United Kingdom, Adolf Hitler's new order was to reign supreme for a thousand years. Instead, cruelty, arrogance, corruption and incompetent leadership has brought the reich to the brink of economic and military collapse in the 1950s. As the new decade turns, Germany's status as a dominant world power is threatened by an increasingly bloated military, a dysfunctional economy reliant on slave labor and a vast amount of enemies both external and internal. Now as the Führer's life draws to an end, ambitious men plot to take over the crumbling empire by any mean necessary.

The most influential man of the XX century and the architect of the Nazi empire, Adolf Hitler found peace in retirement, going away from petty politics and the toxic factionalism of the Reichstag, and started to act as a mere figurehead for the German government. Even in the face of disasters that have happened in the later days of the Nazi Empire, Hitler's image as a symbol to rally behind for the German people remained unbroken, but as Führer's health is falling, many people fear that Germany will be torn apart by rivaling factions in their desire for absolute power after his death. Germany silently awaits Hitler's decree of choosing his successor, but it is obvious that there are a lot of people in the Reich who won't agree with their leader's final decision...

Even in the face of disasters that have happened in the later days of the Nazi Empire, Hitler's image as a symbol to rally behind for the German people remained unbroken, but as the Führer's health is falling, many people fear that Germany will be torn apart by rivaling factions in their desire for absolute power after his death. Germany silently awaits Hitler's decree of choosing his successor, but it is obvious that there are a lot of people in the Reich who won't agree with their leader's final decision...

A proud Wehrmacht general, Speidel first acquired his fame across Germany for his coup against the rebellious Eastern SS divisons during the West Russian War, an act which managed to prevent the Civil War between the Reich and the SS in the 50s. The rising star of the German military, Speidel has managed since then to secure the Wehrmacht from a militarist takeover by Schörner and achieve love from the population for his military valor, overshadowing his former master UsefulNotes/ErwinRommel. Speidel is not a man of politics and doesn't associate himself with factions that are thirsting for power in the Reich, fearing that military rule over Germany would bring the country to ruins, but there is no doubt that Speidel will make a stand for the interests of the German people, not party bureaucrats, in imminent political turmoil.

----

* DystopiaIsHard: Systematic oppression has done nothing but cause trouble for the German society, and Germany is on the verge of collapse because of their actions.
* EnemyCivilWar: The German Civil War between 4 contenders for the Führership starts almost immediately after Hitler dies.
* FascistButInefficient: Germany's economic, social, and military problems have created a nearly failed state by the 1960s, held together only by strict internal control. An inevitable civil war results, and this need not be the end of the crisis should the victor not attempt useful reforms.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Germany's desire to build the Atlantropa and reshape Europe completely destroyed them; their Mediterranean allies left the Axis, their own economy crashed due to the expenses spent on Atlantropa, which led to massively increased internal dissent that eventually culminates in the German Civil War.
* OutOfTheFryingPan: Managed poorly, the new German state established in the aftermath of the German Civil War can collapse again, though little detail has been released on what exactly happens during the second collapse.
* SuccessionCrisis: Even though Hitler will name a successor before his death, the faction division in the Nazi party has reached such an extent that a succession crisis immediately begins after Hitler dies, instantly collapsing Germany into a civil war.

!!''Albert Speer''

[[quoteright:156:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tno_speeryah.png]]

The Reich's chief architect and one of the members of Hitler's closest circle, Speer rose up in post-war Germany as the leader of the liberal opposition and the icon of student protesters across the country. Believing that Germany can't continue her current course, Speer and his supporters call for abolishment of the slave system, political and economical liberalization and concessions with foreign powers to free Germany and the world from the risk of nuclear war. While many people think that his ideas are a threat to the stability of the state, if not a perversion of the ideals of National Socialism, there is nothing to hold Speer's will for a free and strong Germany for the modern age.

----

* TheAtoner: Part of Speer's motivation for reforming the Reich is his personal regret for his role in the Holocaust and the creation of the slave system.
* BeingGoodSucks: While "good" is a more relative concept with regard to Speer, he is still the most liberal and reform-minded candidate for the Führership, and that's what makes him an enemy to many people in Germany, who will try to sabotage his actions and remove him from power. One incautious action can cost Speer everything, especially in his attempts at the most radical reforms.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: Speer's path is a hard one and riddled with numerous obstacles (especially if you decide to reform the Reich into an Authoritarian Democracy), as Speer's enemies are spread across the country and resist any of his attempts at reforms even after the Civil War. However, if you play your cards right, Speer will transform Germany into something more humane and reasonable and prevent nuclear war.
* InternalReformist: Speer, like other candidates for Hitler's successor, wants a strong Germany and wants to see every German proud of their country, their past and their Führer. Yet, unlike other candidates, he is aware that Germany, at her current stage, is completely nonviable and further refusal to reforms will lead only to national collapse. While Speer tries to completely eradicate the worst excesses of the Nazi system, such as the slave system, racialist policies and sabre-rattling militarism, he does it only to strengthen the Reich, not to undermine it. This becomes even more obvious if Speer decides to go the Fascist route instead of the Authoritarian Democrat one.
* TheLastDJ: Speer's reformist views are not even remotely acceptable in German politics and he is widely hated by the other factions, but as a personal confidant of Hitler there is nothing they can do to get rid of him, at least until Hitler is no longer a concern.
* PragmaticVillainy: Speer is still a fascist, but he's the only candidate who recognizes that National Socialism has failed and that the Reich is in desperate need of reform. His opposition to the worst excesses of the Nazi system is motivated by practical concerns as much as it is by moral conviction. Beyond being massively inhumane, the slave system and the concentration camp network are inefficient, expensive, and detrimental to the Reich's economic growth. The corruption and cruelty that the Nazi economy is based on is also what's holding the country back.
* RebelLeader: Speer is seen by protesting students as the leader of the resistance against the conservative establishment and as an embodiment of the values of free Germany. Of course, Speer is a bit more complicated than that, but nevertheless he is a favorite of the rebellious youth who are ready to die for him if necessary.
* OnlySaneMan: Between the status quo protector for Slavery, military expansionist or the batshit insane Burgundian Regime, the focus tree of Speer actually bring Germany back to the proper path. At least the international community would consider him as the only one can negotiate with.

A veteran of German court policies and one of the closest of Führer's confidants, Martin Bormann emerged as the leading voice of conservatives in the Reich and one of the most popular politicians among the German people. Beloved by the common folk for his simple messages of preserving safety and stability in the country during such tumultuous times and feared by his rivals for his cunning nature, Bormann proved himself to be an efficient power player, but one can wonder if one man is enough to keep Germany strong as it was before and live up to his promises of stability when the Reich is crumbling under its very foundation...
----

* BaldOfEvil: Bormann was already balding in the last years of his life IRL. By 1962 in TNO, he is completely bald.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: In the first Germany diary, Bormann was portrayed as a woefully incompetent, delusional and mulish candidate who was regarded as more of an option for AI rather than a living player. As the development went, Bormann became a far more complex character, whose actions maybe can't save the Reich in the end, but who is at least presented as a far more tricky and adaptable politician who is aware of the direness of the situation around him, even if he still tries to appease the conservatives and has to work within the unworkable and doomed system.
* DramaticallyMissingThePoint: Believes that overwhelming nuclear threat can bring Himmler to bear, not knowing that Himmler fully intends nuclear war.
%%* FailureIsTheOnlyOption: Unless you intentionally refuse to pick the most of Bormann's focuses, you can expect nothing from his tree but the inevitable destruction of the country. This is the reason why Bormann is considered more as an AI option; the most enjoyment a living player can find playing as Bormann's Germany is picking the craziest focuses of his tree and watching how Germany collapses in the most hilarious ways possible.
* InternalReformist: While obviously not to the same extent as Speer, Bormann can proclaim the beginning of the ''Offenheit'' period and launch a relative liberalization of German political life.
%%* MeetTheNewBoss: Consciously and proudly changes as little as possible about Germany from the way Hitler ruled it.
* NumberTwo: Bormann starts as the head of government for Hitler and the only person in the Reich who can rival the Führer in popularity and influence (if not already exceeded him after Hitler retired from making decisions).
%%* WonTheWarLostThePeace: Bormann is the most likely winner of the Civil War (if played by the AI). He is also the least likely to hold the country together afterwards, simply because he refuses to acknowledge and change the conditions which led to the crisis and Civil War in the first place.

Former Minister of Aviation, Hermann Göring rallied around himself a large group of adherents from both the military and the Nazi old guard, united by their beliefs that Germany can bring the GloryDays back by launching a new series of military adventures around the world. If the war is what made the Reich so great, says Göring, and therefore if the Germans want to put Germany out of its crisis and reachieve its lost greatness, they should wage war on everyone who resists Aryan dominance.

----

* ChestOfMedals: As his conquests continue, the amount of medals on Göring's portrait increases.
* CultOfPersonality: As Führer, Göring establishes a Stalin-like cult of personality.
* FatBastard: Goering is still fat and mean, ruling Germany as a warmonger.
* FatIdiot: Goering knows how to oppress citizens and wage war, and that's about it. When it comes to science, he only cares about the parts of science that expand Germany's military prowess and crazy wunderwaffe that [[AwesomeButImpractical look cool and might not actually work]]. Even that doesn't come close to Goring's economy plans however, which is an ''absolute disaster'' of stupidity.
* KillSat: Goering's pet wunderwaffe project is the Sun Gun, a massive satellite system with high powered solar panels intended to burn enemies from space.
* TakeOverTheWorld: The ultimate goal of his plans, though doomed to failure due to the existence of nuclear states.
* TemptingFate: Some of the focuses in Goering's Germany have names like "Who Knew Economics Was So Easy?", showing that Goering is completely unaware of how bad his plans are and believing that they absolutely won't backfire horrifically.
* ThePowerOfTheSun: Goering really likes his Sun Gun pet project, which is a solar-powered satellite weapon.
* TimeForPlanB: If things go very badly for Göring and his wars can't be quickly ended, he can apply Plan B in his economic focus tree, which weakens or outright removes economic variables he introduced before, thus creating giant holes in the economy for short-term gains. Such measures are taken in expectation that you can fill these gaps by looting foreign lands, and if you can't do it in a necessary time, the situation will become even worse.
* YouHaveFailedMe: If the German Civil War reaches the point of Anarchy and there is no victory in sight, the Wehrmacht generals will attempt to coup Göring for his failure and try to achieve victory in the war with even more brutal measures.
* WarForFunAndProfit: Aside from the ideological motive, Göring wages war on the entire world also because he can loot other countries and use it to "improve" the German economy.
* {{Warhawk}}: There is no diplomacy tree for Göring, only the war tree in three stages.
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer: When Göring can't resolve a problem, he sends troops and tanks on it. When he can't resolve a problem with troops and tanks, he throws off money for more troops and tanks until the problem is resolved.

[[quoteright:156:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tno_heydrich_2.png]]

Even before taking the post of Reichsführer of the German SS after Himmler's attempted coup, Heydrich was already known in Germany as an exceptionally brutal and fanatical man, becoming especially infamous for his terror against the Bohemian population after surviving an assassination attempt. Now, leading the German SS, the Man with the Iron Heart fully committed himself to Himmler and the principles of the Burgundian System, and as the power struggle in Germany seems inevitable, he prepares himself and his men to rally against the decadent regime of the old and complacent elite in order to remake the Reich in the Spartanist image and ensure reunification of the country with Burgundy in the name of a common cause.

----

* AintTooProudToBeg: Even such monstrous person as Heydrich is not devoid of fear of death, especially from the hands of his superior. If the Civil War enters the stage of Anarchy and Himmler starts to consider to eliminate him, Heydrich will attempt to beg him for forgiveness and buy more time for the victory.
* AllCrimesAreEqual: Heydrich has the focus to punish laziness as a crime under his rule of Germany. And considering that the most common punishment for a crime in Heydrich's Germany is a one-way trip to the concentration camps...
* CrushingThePopulace: Lacking any substantial base, a victorious Heydrich establishes control over German society by using SS forces to punish just about everyone, and either exterminate or enslaves the student protesters.
* DarkHorseVictory: Outside of the SS and some marginal Wehrmacht circles, Heydrich doesn't have any genuine support, which is why Hitler proclaiming him as a successor comes as a shock to so many people in Germany. Because of said small support, Heydrich is also the least likely to win the Civil War.
* DystopiaJustifiesTheMeans: Heydrich is the leader with the strongest and most overt beliefs to turn Germany into a Spartanist totalitarian state under the Burgundian System. Even Himmler focuses more on planning for global nuclear armageddon than Heydrich's full dedication to reform Germany into a Spartanist nation.
* DramaticallyMissingThePoint: Heydrich follows the Burgundian System of Himmler without a doubt and genuinely believes that Germany built on the Spartanist principles will stay forever. What he doesn't know, however, is that Himmler sees the Burgundian System not as much the desirable end but more as a mean to destroy the world.
* EvilLuddite: Heydrich believes the fruits of modern civilization like urbanization and entertainment are immoral since they distract Germans from a much simpler, nobler life and when in power he tries to make the life of an ordinary German as austere as possible.
* TheEvilsOfFreeWill: Heydrich perceives democracy and liberty as themselves being forms of oppression, as they permit the individual to choose a decadent lifestyle and make total social unity impossible.
* FinalSolution: Heydrich's diplomacy tree consists of the conquest of Denmark, Bohemia, Poland, and Reichskommissariat Ostland and Reichskommissariat Ukraine. For Ostland and Ukraine in particular, it is heavily implied that Heydrich either starts two massive purges or straight-up genocides entire populations to extinguish any spark of resistance.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Heydrich is held in both contempt and fear by pretty much all of the Nazi party, because ''even they'' [[EvenEvilHasStandards consider his brutal ways, views and opinions a tad too extreme]]. The only reason why he still has some political weight to throw around is because Himmler has his back, and therefore the Waffen SS has it too. Even Himmler doesn't really like him and plans to curtail his power -- [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness if not outright dispose of him]] -- as soon as he finds it convenient.
* FromBadToWorse: Unlike his real life counterpart, [[ForWantOfANail this Heydrich survived the attempt on his life in 1942]]. He became even more paranoid and brutal as a result.
* KlingonPromotion: It has been noted that his ascent to the top of the German wing of the SS has involved quite a few "[[MakeItLookLikeAnAccident mysterious deaths]]".
* PuppetKing: There is a little secret that Heydrich is a puppet for Himmler. When Heydrich comes to power and completely finishes the Burgundian marriage focus tree, Germany becomes a puppet state of Burgundy.
* ThePurge: Should Heydrich take power in Germany, he will begin a purge on an ''unimaginable'' scale, arresting or executing "traitors" at every level of society, from civilians to bankers, to politicians, to officers and soldiers. Nobody is spared.
* PyrrhicVillainy: He is unknowingly ensuring his own death by serving Himmler, either by failing him in the Civil War or enabling him to enact nuclear genocide he will not be spared from.
* RedBaron: The Blonde Beast, the Butcher of Prague, the Man with an Iron Heart, the Young Evil God of Death, Himmler's Evil Genius...
* UndyingLoyalty: Heydrich is completely subservient to Himmler.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: While Heydrich follows many of Himmler's horrible ideas, acceleration of a nuclear apocalypse isn't one of them and he isn't aware that Himmler even pursues such plans. However, given that his relationship with Himmler doesn't give him any other choices, Heydrich has to contribute to the goals of his superior, leaving himself blind to Himmler's true intentions.
* YouHaveFailedMe: If the Anarchy happens, Himmler can severely punish Heydrich for not being able to win the Civil War in a satisfactory time and annex his territories in the Rhineland into Burgundy, complete with Heydrich's remaining nuclear arsenal.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: The majority of Heydirch's foreign policy tree, aside from the Burgundian affairs, deals with the harsh punishment of Reichkomissariats and forcing them into full subservience to the Reich.

!!''Ferdinand Schörner''

[[quoteright:156:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tno_schoerner.png]]

Even since the Second World War, Field Marshal Schörner always desired glory and power for himself alone, but always failed to make use of opportunities to obtain it, as it happened when he was outsmarted during the West Russian War by Speidel and was prevented by him from taking control over the German war machine for his own purposes. Now, humiliated yet unbroken, Schörner brought himself to Göring's camp, but he doesn't quite align with his leader and sees the future conflict as another opportunity for him to reach the heights he was always destined for.

----

* ArchEnemy: To Speidel. Both men fiercely struggle for the influence in the Wehrmacht and both men have a mutual antagonistic backstory, with Speidel preventing Schörner to take over the Wehrmacht several times.
* BloodKnight: Schörner is even more obsessive of war than Göring.
* {{Conscription}}: Schörner conscripts ''everyone'' on his territory, seeking to end the German Civil War with human wave tactics.
* GeneralRipper: Schörner obsesses over fighting wars and destroying his enemies. His first goal after taking power is rooting out the "Volksverräter" ("people's traitor") by killing them all.
* JustTheFirstCitizen: Doesn't take the mantle of Führer, instead leading the "Government of National Reconstruction" (''Regierung des Nationalen Wiederaufbaus'') until one can be chosen, in a future unlikely to come.
* MilitaryCoup: Unlike with the other German leaders, who are merely tied closely to the military, his coup functionally fuses the civilian and military governments of Germany into a single entity.
* PressGanged: Schörner takes this to new heights - in his Germany, the ''entire population'' is forcibly conscripted, down to the children.
* TheUnfettered: Schörner is glad to use ''any'' means to achieve victory, even if that means endless sacrifices of German citizens.
* UriahGambit: He sees his massive conscription program as a good way to deal with his opposition and dissenters in Germany.
* WeHaveReserves: Schörner is an unprincipled warmonger who sends hordes of civilians to machine gun fire.
* YouHaveFailedMe: Against Göring, for his "hesitation" to win the German Civil War.

[[folder:Deutsche Sozialistische Republik]]
!''Deutsche Sozialistische Republik''

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tno_dsr.png]]

The Deutsche Sozialistische Republik (German Socialist Republic) is a possible successor state to Nazi Germany in the event that radical communist students take control of Germany should the German Civil War go horribly wrong and collapse into anarchy. The DSR absolutely opposes Nazism and wishes to eradicate Nazism, but their rule of Germany is a highly dysfunctional one. Things go bad. Very, ''very'' bad.

----

* AllohistoricalAllusion: The opening event following DSR's victory is called "Autumn in Germany", referencing the [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_Autumn German Autumn]], a period of intensified far-left terror incidents which the Red Army Faction is involved in.
* BrokenPedestal: At the start of the Civil War, the future members of the DSR are eager Speerians, like the other students who fight under Speer's banner. However, Speer's failure to win the war makes them disillusioned not only with their former idol, but with the Nazi system as a whole.
* CommieNazis: While the DSR are not explicitly National Bolsheviks or anything like that, some of their members have some... questionable views on various issues, which they inherited from being raised in the Hitler Youth and trained in the Wehrmacht. Some of them, for example, think that the slave system is perfectly acceptable in a Communist society.
* DirtyCommies: One would think that Communists would be at least marginally better than Nazis and the crazier Nazis they fight against. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The DSR has to launch even larger purges than Heydrich to preserve their rule (not even counting the ideological beliefs of their leaders about revolutionary violence), many of their members are still entrenched in their beliefs from their Nazi past to make substantial progressive reforms for Germany. A majority of the government consists of former students with little to no professional skills, which makes management of the country an absolute nightmare and inevitably leads to disasters like widespread famines and diseases.
* EveryoneHasStandards: Other Communist nations consider the DSR a pseudo-fascist hellhole and don't want to have anything with their vision of Communism.
* FinalSolution: After it becomes clear that their revolution does not have the support of the general public, the DSR gradually takes more and more extreme measures to purge the existence of Nazism, chillingly leading to a final focus called [[KillEmAll "The Answer"]].
* FullCircleRevolution: Ultimately, the DSR replicates many of the crimes of the German Reich, and on a greater scale.
* InNameOnly: While they believe themselves to be ardent communists, they don't know much about Marxist theory and, aside from a few fragments of Communist literature that are spread on the black market, they learn about the ideology more from Nazi propaganda than Marx and Lenin.
* InsultBackfire: Most of what the DSR knows about socialism comes from Nazi anticommunist propaganda, which they eagerly use as the basis of their actions.
* RebelliousRebel: They take Speer's lack of a swift victory in the German Civil War as an act of treason, and turn against both him and the loyal Speerians.
* ReignOfTerror: Enacts one against Germany as a whole, even the Speerians with whom they were initially allied.
* TheRevolutionWillNotBeCivilized: They have to kill, at very least, more Germans than ''Heydrich'' just to survive.

!!''Ulrike Meinhof''
[[quoteright:156:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tno_meinhof.png]]

----

* SheWhoFightsMonsters: Meinhof sees herself as a monster fighting against Nazism which Nazism fears. Unfortunately, in her extreme crusade against Nazism, her country commits many of the same atrocities as the Nazis.
