* BornUnlucky: Never managed to win a ''single'' challenge across ''both'' stages of the game. He has the dubious honor of attending the ''most'' Chopping Blocks of any player across ''both'' seasons with ''8'' total ceremonies attended, ''9'' if you count him attending the jury.
* BreakoutVillain: If you come out of season 2 knowing ''anyone'', it's gonna be Michael. Simply compare the sheer number of tropes he has compared to the rest of the cast if you're not convinced.
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: Whereas Alfredo was a strategic manipulator and challenge beast who more or less controlled the game from beginning to end with the help of a strong majority alliance, Michael is a chaotic wildcard who had little to no power in the game, was frankly terrible in challenges, and completely lacked in loyal allies, but managed to hang around by the skin of his teeth through sheer willpower and focusing in on bigger threats.
* EarlyBirdCameo: First debuted in the season 1 finale alongside Gavin as a teaser for the next season.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Gavin, to the surprise of nobody familiar with Achievement Hunter.
* ThisIsGonnaSuck: Not long after getting put into their teams, Michael comes to the realization he's one of the only people on it that knows how to play Minecraft...And he's of the opinion he ''doesn't'' know what he's doing. [[DeadpanSnarker So...High expectations out the gate]].
* WrongGenreSavvy: When initially told about the Immunity Totems hidden around the island, Michael's immediate instinct was to check under the podium Trevor was speaking from. It doesn't work, but was worth a shot.

* CardCarryingVillain: Openly admits himself to be a manipulator more than willing to lie and screw over anyone in his way to come out on top.

* HazyFeelTurn: While she still very much is in it to win it in the last two episodes, Barbara's game noticeably shifts come to final five, as by that point she had formed genuine bonds with the rest of the players since she's known them since day one. Notably, this is the first time the whole game where Barbara doesn't immediately back up Alfredo's idea of who should go next.

* TheChessmaster: With help from Barbara, he's able to get votes from the entire Green Team, then use his Immunity Totem to nullify their votes, giving him the sole power over who went home. He chooses Matt, a challenge beast he wanted out before the merge.
** He'd go on to repeat the same strategy in the merge, using another Immunity Totem to get BK eliminated, the biggest threat to Red Team's power over the game.
