Added DiffLines:

* AngryBlackMan: Robert was a brilliant student, but he was extremely bitter at how racism and poverty made his family go hungry and kept him from going to college or treating his mother's illness. He felt no remorse at stealing from wealthier people. He calmed down after things start to go better for him, but his rage returned when he started attending Empire State University and was harassed by a white supremacist hate group.
* AntiVillain: At the end of the day, Robert just wanted to do right by his family. He calmed down quite a bit once he got a fairer shake in life, even joining Silver Sable's Wild Pack. He's later forced back into crime working for MODOK, but it's shown he had no choice.
* CoolBoard: His signature weapon is his mechanized skateboard. It can go at super high speeds and even ride straight up walls.
* GadgeteerGenius: He doesn't have any inborn superpowers. His abilities come from his PoweredArmor and super-fast skateboard, all of which he built himself.
* HandBlasts: His gauntlets are equipped with mini-rocket launchers that he can fire as offensive weapons.
* MegatonPunch: He can increase the strength of his punches by hitting his targets while riding at high speed on his skateboard.
* PoweredArmor: This is his main equipment along with his mechanized skateboard.
* WeHelpTheHelpless: Used his equipment to make money as a hired superhero, particularly when working for Silver Sable as part of her Wild Pack.

* DaywalkingVampire: Zigzagged. Since he's not a traditional vampire, Morbius is not killed by sunlight. However, his eyes and skin are very sensitive to it so he prefers to avoid it.

* GeniusBruiser: He was a brilliant scientist prior to his transformation which gave him considerably enhanced physical abilities.

* OneHeroHoldTheWeaksauce: He has all the physical abilities of a vampire, in part at least, with none of the traditional weaknesses except for the blood lust.

* StockSuperpowers:
** HealingFactor: He was quite surprised to find out his transformation into a pseudo-vampire had given him accelerated healing, which he discovered when he was shot and woke up a little while later with the bullet hole gone. He can heal from a lot and does so faster than normal humans, but it definitely has its limits.
** MindManipulation: It took quite a while before he learned he could hypnotize people, and isn't seen using it often. Over the years this power has also gradually been downplayed until he's become mostly a CharmPerson in that he can "strongly suggest" things to people.
** NotQuiteFlight: His hollow bones[=/=]psionic powers enable him to glide, though to which extend [[DependingOnTheWriter varies from issue to issue]]. Sometimes he'll fall out of the sky when the wind goes down, other times he's shown to be freely flying around, even indoors.
** RubberMan: While possessed by the Lilin Bloodthirst he was able to warp his body to some extend.

!!Black Cat provides examples of:

* AbsoluteCleavage: She's had several outfits that all tend to draw on the same basic design scheme, but the unifying factor is that they almost all tend to have an impossibly low neckline. Totally averted after [[spoiler:she breaks out of prison following her defeat and arrest at the hands of the Superior Spider-Man]].
* ActionGirl: Even without her superpowers, Felicia is an accomplished gymnast and martial artist. She also counts as a DarkActionGirl, depending on where she is on the morality scale.
* AdaptationalHeroism:
** ''VideoGame/MarvelAvengersAlliance'' drops most, if not all, of her cat burglar traits and she's more straight-up heroine here.
** In her first appearance on ''WesternAnimation/SpiderManTheAnimatedSeries'' Felicia is a normal college student and friend of Peter. She is forced to act as a thief, to save her father, and after that is resolved, spends the rest of the series firmly in the hero camp.
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange:
** In Spider-Man: TAS, Felicia could change from a normal blonde-haired woman to a more [[AmazonianBeauty muscular]] white-haired form with superhuman strength, speed and agility rivalling that of Spider-Man.
** In the non-continuity limited series, ''The Supernaturals'', Felicia could cause things to happen by speaking certain words or phrases aloud.
* AdaptationDyeJob:
** In ''WesternAnimation/SpiderManTheAnimatedSeries'', her natural hair color is blonde instead of white. She gains the ability to turn her white as a form of disguise after being granted superpowers by the Kingpin.
** Her ComicBook/UltimateMarvel counterpart has short black hair and only wears a white wig.
** She has black hair in the non-continuity limited series ''The Supernaturals''.
* AffirmativeActionLegacy: In most stories she succeeded her father as the Black Cat.
* AlternateCompanyEquivalent: [[SexyCatPerson A sexy cat-themed]] ClassyCatBurglar who has a [[DatingCatwoman turbulent relationship]] with a fellow animal-themed hero. [[ComicBook/{{Catwoman}} Not a hard guess who her DC counterpart is]].
* AlternateContinuity: In the 90s cartoon, she was the AlphaBitch at Parker’s school before becoming the Black Cat via the Super-Soldier Formula ([[AdaptationOriginConnection the one used by a certain]] ComicBook/CaptainAmerica), and ultimately gets paired up with Morbius the Living Vampire. She's also very different in the ComicBook/UltimateMarvel Universe as well. Her Manga/MarvelMangaverse counterpart is a cyborg with a striking resemblance to [[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion Rei Ayanami]].
* AmazonianBeauty: In the 90s cartoon, Black Cat has a very muscular body in addition to being very beautiful. (Specifically, it was only the Black Cat identity that had this appearance, with her costume switch including a minor HulkOut.) The comics sometimes draw her like this in the 90s as well, DependingOnTheArtist.
* AnimalThemedSuperbeing: Felicia started out as a Type II; she was a BadassNormal who used a Black Cat motif and engineered accidents to make it look like anyone who crossed her path suffered bad luck. Later she acquired the ability to [[WindsOfDestinyChange affect probability]] but then lost these powers. However, she gained [[CatGirl cat-like abilities such as retractable claws, night vision and enhanced speed, agility, balance and strength]] making her a type I. She lost these powers too and has since regained her bad luck powers making her a type II again.
* AntiMagic: In the 2019 series, it's established that her "bad luck" aura tampers with magic, making her largely immune to magical attacks and something of a ManOfKryptonite for spellcasters (low-level ones like Xander the Merciless, at least).
* AtrociousAlias: ''Black Cat'' #2 reveals that Felicia once used the alias "Francesca Featherbottom" when she was a teenager and amateur thief. The Black Fox who mentored both Felicia and her father pointed out how embarrassing the name was after he bailed her out of jail.
* ArchEnemy: Became this to ComicBook/{{Silk}} during her time as TheQueenpin, with Silk foiling several of Felicia's schemes and Felicia having defeated Silk on multiple occasions and hindering Silk's efforts to find her parents.
* AxCrazy: After the events of ''ComicBook/SuperiorSpiderMan'', she became a psycho who wants to destroy everything about Spider-Man and doesn't care that he was under someone else's control, attempting to harm anyone and everything else in the process and even joining forces with several past Spider-Man villains to do so, even several that she used to be enemies with. She almost kills Aunt May and her husband when she set fire to their house.
* BathingBeauty: Felicia seems to love to bathe and even calls herself a "shower junkie", having had many {{Shower|scene}} and {{Bathtub Scene}}s over the years. She has even shown having a ''milk'' bath once.
* BattleCouple: With Peter, during their ultimately short-lived relationship.
* BeautyIsNeverTarnished: Her nose has been broken ''three times'' and while she has frequently been beaten up with her costume reduced to shreds and noticeably wounded a few times, she rarely has any lasting damage, with no scars at all.
* BecomingTheMask: She [[OperationJealousy starts dating Flash Thompson to get Peter jealous]], but ends up actually starting to care for him (only to be dumped by him when he finds out and asks WasItAllALie).
* BettyAndVeronica: She is the Veronica to Mary Jane's Betty, being the most overtly seductive of the two.
* BeautyIsNeverTarnished: Her nose has been broken ''three times'' and while she has frequently been beaten up with her costume reduced to shreds and noticeably wounded a few times, she rarely has any lasting damage, with no scars at all. (Given her [[{{Stripperiffic}} taste in costume]], they'd likely show.)
* BikerBabe: Gets a CoolBike designed with a cat motif courtesy of Puma.
* BlatantBurglar: Most of her costumes make it pretty obvious she's a ClassyCatBurglar, with the dark SpyCatsuit, DominoMask and classic thief gear.
* BlessedWithSuck: Her "bad luck" power, which caused misfortune on anyone near her, but also couldn't be controlled at all.
* BoobsOfSteel: She's the bustiest of Spidey's love interests and [[DependingOnTheWriter perhaps]] the most skilled in combat.
* BreakTheCutie: Good one, Otto. [[spoiler:Now Peter's got a scorned cat after his head.]] There's also her RapeAsBackstory.
* BreakoutCharacter: Felicia has been the star of two different miniseries and in 2019 received her own solo series, the first of Spider-Man's {{love interest}}s to receive her own solo in main continuity [[note]] ''ComicBook/SpiderManLovesMaryJane'' predates the Black Cat solo series but was set outside of the main 616 continuity[[/note]].
* BuildingSwing: She uses a GrapplingHookPistol to swing from buildings, much like Spider-Man.
* CardCarryingVillain: During her "[[TheQueenpin Queenpin]]" phase, Felicia demanded to be respected as the new leader of crime in New York and would stop at nothing to gain power.
* CatGirl: Zigzagged. Normally, Felicia's "Black Cat" moniker is just that. However, she also gained a number of feline super-powers -- notably retractile claws, infrared vision, and superhuman reflexes, agility and strength -- after ComicBook/DoctorStrange removed her original [[WindsOfDestinyChange bad-luck powers]]. But these powers were subsequently by the Chameleon using a device he had intended to use to DePower Spider-Man.
* CatsAreSnarkers: Part of her cat motif is being a DeadpanSnarker to rival Peter, with [[SnarkToSnarkCombat their banter]] being one of the most iconic things about their relationship.
* CharacterDevelopment: As of ''ComicBook/SpiderManBlackCatTheEvilThatMenDo'', it's clear that she has grown to care deeply for Peter, as she calls herself a fool for only being interested in his Spider-Man persona in the past. She also shows concern and empathy for Francis Klum, something she rarely does for anyone outside of Peter or her mother.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: In the world of superpowers like SuperStrength and ShockAndAwe, she just has really good martial arts and thieving skills. Before she got actual superpowers, that is.
* ClassyCatBurglar: She is an attractive thief, with acrobatic skills, a charming personality and a cat AnimalMotifs.
* ColorAnimalCodename: A black cat, of course.
* CombatParkour: Similar to Spidey, her moveset mostly comprises leaps and vaults, though Felicia's are more graceful.
* CombatStilettos: She has them in her costume DependingOnTheArtist.
* {{Cyborg}}: Felicia's counterpart in ''Manga/MarvelMangaverse'' is cybernetically enhanced.
* ADateWithRosiePalms: A ShowerScene toward the beginning of ''[[ComicBook/SpiderManBlackCatTheEvilThatMenDo The Evil That Men Do]]'' has Felicia reach for the detachable shower head to rinse off some CensorSuds while ruminating on how long it's been since she's had a partner. The view shifts to outside the bathroom with a partially obscured SexySilhouette.
* DatingCatwoman:
** For a time she became Spider-Man's lover, and even tried to persuade him to give up his civilian identity.
** Ends on the other side of this when she goes for Odessa Drake, though they both acknowledge it will never work out, right before making out.
* DeadlyDodging: Due to her bad luck powers, her opponents frequently end up tripping or hunting themselves after she dodges their attacks. But she's also skilled enough to have this happen on purpose.
* DeadpanSnarker: She and Spider-Man are a perfect pair when it comes to cracking sarcastic jokes.
* DeityOfHumanOrigin: In her ''ComicBook/KingInBlack'' crossover, Felicia takes up ComicBook/DoctorStrange's Yggdrasil Staff and imbues herself with its divine power to fight a horde of symbiote-dragons. When its avatar suggests making her apotheosis permanent, she almost says yes when it promises her all the treasures of the universe, the power to kill everyone who's ever hurt her, and to bring back the loved ones she's lost. [[spoiler:She rejects it when it offers her the ability to force all her old lovers to become her personal harem, disgusted and outraged at the thought of forcing anyone to love her.]]
* DependingOnTheWriter: Felicia's morality, her relationship with MJ and how much she truly loves Peter (and how much she cares about his alter ego compared to him) fluctuate from writer to writer.
* DerailingLoveInterests:
** In the past, for publicity reasons it was decided to have Spider-Man marry at the same time in [[ComicStrip/SpiderMan the newspaper strip]] and [[ComicBook/SpiderMan the comic book]]; unfortunately at the time Peter was dating Felicia Hardy/Black Cat. The solution? Make Felicia go from morally ambiguous cat-burglar to the ally of an assassin for hire. Though the storyline was badly written and not helped by various production delays, this was no derailment. Peter and Felicia had broken up in 1984, about two years before the decision to have him and Mary Jane marry was taken. When the Black Cat started dating Spider-Man again -- in ''Spectacular Spider-Man'' #123 (published a mere five months before Peter proposed to Mary Jane in ''Amazing Spider-Man'' #290), she was in cahoots with the [[KarmaHoudini Foreigner]], the assassin responsible for the murder of Ned Leeds (a.k.a. "The Hobgoblin"). It also was clear from the start that she was motivated by a desire for revenge against Peter for getting ComicBook/DoctorStrange to remove the bad-luck power she had bought from ComicBook/TheKingpin. And this period of dating began with the Black Cat faking a bomb attack on her own apartment to get a pretext to invite herself in as Peter's new flatmate.
** In the aftermath of the ''ComicBook/SuperiorSpiderMan'' she pull a WomanScorned FaceHeelTurn and wants to destroy Spider-Man (and become the next Kingpin) because Otto Octavius destroyed her life and now she is not going to take Peter's apology unless she pries it from his dead body (and considering one of the first things she does is ''send Electro to kill Spider-Man'', she is either teetering close to the MoralEventHorizon or had passed it, but it's imperceptible). All to promote [[CreatorsPet Silk]] as Spider-Man's new love interest.
* DiscardAndDraw: Originally, Felicia had no superpowers and [[BadassNormal relied on her martial arts, athleticism and brains]]. When she felt she was a liability to Peter because of her lack of powers, she underwent a procedure that granted her the ability to affect probability and cause bad luck to her enemies. Unfortunately, this power also affected Spider-Man and he had Dr. Strange remove it, which granted her cat-like abilities. She lost ''these'' powers also due to devices the Chameleon used on her and was stuck as a human for a while. Following ''Brand New Day'', her bad luck powers are back.
* DoesNotLikeMen: While she has no problem with casually dating men for ulterior motives, she's made it clear that there are only two men she's ever truly respected; her father, and Spider-Man. This was explained in ''The Evil That Men Do'' as being caused by her college boyfriend raping her.
* DominoMask: The only thing she wears to cover her face.
* DoomMagnet: When she has no control over her bad luck powers, she ends as this to whoever she's close to, both friends ''and'' enemies.
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: Whilst originally Felicia was simply a CharlesAtlasSuperpower thief who relied on her skills in stealth, theft, gymnastics and martial arts, she sought out superpowers of her own during the time that she and Spider-Man were dating after he got hurt trying to keep her safe from two supervillains. This brought her to the Kingpin, who gave her WindsOfDestinyChange abilities... but, when it turned out these suffered from PowerIncontinence that made her TheJinx to ''everyone'', Spider-Man asked ComicBook/DoctorStrange to remove them from her. She gained [[CatGirl feline powers]] as a side-effect of this, but was subsequently {{Depower}}ed by the Chameleon. After a long period of time as a CharlesAtlasSuperpower, Felicia sought out power again in 2010, having Dr. Tramma, MadScientist underling of Mr. Negative, restore her bad-luck powers and her claws via cybernetics.
* EvilCostumeSwitch: At the beginning of the All-New Marvel NOW! ''Amazing Spider-Man'', she switches out the white in her costume for black and added some metal belts (or something), and is acting as the WomanScorned to Spidey for what Doc did to her as the Superior Spider-Man.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: In her first appearance she broke her dying father out of prison so he could live his final months in dignity.
* EvenEvilHasStandards:
** In ''ComicBook/TheDefenders2017'', she actually is horrified when seeing how Diamondback beats up Luke Cage and ''personally'' drops him off at a hospital.
** In her 90s miniseries, it is revealed that Felicia once had a partner and occasional lover named Brian Lash. During a heist, Brian went rogue and tried to steal more than they had agreed to and kill a security guard. Felicia had [[ThouShaltNotKill a policy against hurting people in her heists]] and tried to stop Brian, scarring him in the process.
* EvilCostumeSwitch: After her FaceHeelTurn due to the incident in ''Superior Spider-Man'', she switches out the white in her costume for black and added a lot of metal belts to it.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer:
** In ''ComicBook/XFactor2006'', the villainess Rococo observes that Felicia has the "sweetest little rump".
** In the 2020 series it's reaveled that despite the animosity and death threats, Odessa Drake is actually in love with Felicia. It's also revealed later the attraction at least is mutual.
* EvilMentor: Had become this for Silk in the second volume of Silk's solo series.
* EvolutionaryLevels: In some storylines[=/=]continuities, she’s a low-level Mutant.
* ExpositionFairy: In ''VideoGame/SpiderMan'' (2000) and ''VideoGame/SpiderMan2'' game.
* {{Expy}}: During her original creation a Spider-Woman foil, she was deliberately based on a character on the Creator/TexAvery cartoon ''WesternAnimation/BadLuckBlackie'', in which a black cat brought misfortune to anyone in close proximity.
* FallenHero: Granted, she didn't always act like a hero, but after her capture and arrest (courtesy of Superior Spider-Man), she tosses aside any notions of righteousness in her quest for vengeance, even going so far as attempting to prevent Spidey from saving people from a burning building and teaming up with Electro. However, the following writers would restore her more heroic traits and status as an aloof ally of Spider-Man.
* FemmeFatale: She started out as an attractive female supervillain, and number one temptress for Spider-Man.
* FlexibilityEqualsSexAbility: She's prone to using her acrobatic skills and flexibility to flirt and tease Spider-Man, sometimes even when they're in the middle of a BuildingSwing.
* FlirtingUnderFire: Constantly with Spidey, to the point that he jokingly wonders if hitting on him is just a very specific form of Tourettes syndrome for her.
* FriendsWithBenefits: From time to time with Spidey, when he's not in a serious relationship with her or anyone else.
* FriendlyEnemy: At least when she isn't trying to be the queen pin, but Felicia has a habit of being pretty chummy with people who would happily see her dead or behind bars. She's even slept with a few.
* TheGadfly: She uses her bad luck powers for amusement, at one point referring to them as her "HilarityEnsues powers" while trolling Spider-Man.
* GagBoobs: She has a [[BuxomIsBetter very well-endowed figure]], which has been pointed out for laughs:
-->'''Black Cat''': What's [Scorpia] saying now?\\
'''Spider-Man''': She says no woman with a chest like yours should be able to move as fast as you do! ''[Scorpia actually does not say this and actually said that she'd kill Black Cat if she ever got out of her cell]''\\
'''Black Cat''': Tell her [[http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/6/68486/1370637-bc_sm_ballast.png they act as ballast!]]
* GrapplingHookPistol: Felicia's suit has a miniature grappling hook device hidden in the "fur" of each glove which enables her to swing from buildings in a manner similar to Spider-Man. She can also use the cable from this device as a tightrope, wall scaling device, or as a weapon in combat.
* HasAType: Apart from Peter, Felicia has hooked up with Matt Murdock (Daredevil) and Johnny Storm (The Human Torch). She was also in exclusive relationships with Flash Thompson and Thomas Fireheart. Given all four of these men are heroes, it is safe to assume Felicia is genuinely attracted to [[SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan good and kind men]] even if she wouldn't openly admit it. The relationship with Flash is especially notable as she originally dated him [[OperationJealousy to make Peter jealous]] [[BecauseYouWereNiceToMe only to genuinely fall for Flash when she saw how much he cared for her]] and she even proposed to him.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: She started out as a criminal before falling in love with Spider-Man. She wavered back and forth between being a thief and superheroine, but Superior Spider-Man's actions have caused her to return to villainy with a vengeance. The events of ''Venom Inc.'' has Eddie Brock telling her to abandon her way of villainy and go back to being a hero. During the events of ''Defenders'' , she assists the Defenders in taking down Diamondback. She then turns her back on being a crime lord and offers to help the Defenders take out the up-and-coming Hood in exchange for getting released from prison. The following writers would either downplay her villainy or downright ignored it and reestablish her as Spider-Man's aloof ally.
* HellBentForLeather: Her costume is a [[FormFittingWardrobe figure-hugging]] black leather SpyCatsuit.
* HerCodeNameWasMarySue: In Roger Stern's one-shot "The Daydreamers" (''Amazing Spider-Man'' #246), Felicia recovering from a battle injury lapses into a dream where Spidey is a jet-setting spy who steals documents for the governments and at the end of it unmasks himself to reveal that he's Creator/CaryGrant, specifically the Grant of ''Film/ToCatchAThief''.
* HollywoodCyborg: Post 2010, she has had a quantum probability pulsator and retractile claws surgically implanted into her body, with no obvious signs of their presence.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Shortly before their break up, Felicia would repeatedly lay it on Peter for keeping any sort of secret from her, even though she was hiding the fact that she'd gone to one of his enemies for help in giving her powers from him.
* IconicSequelCharacter: She's the third [[ComicBook/MaryJaneWatson most]] [[ComicBook/GwenStacy prominent]] LoveInterest of Spider-Man [[DatingCatwoman despite their turbulent relationship]], but Felicia didn't appear until 1979 -- a whopping seventeen years into the story.
* ItsPersonal: Felicia easily holds grudges and loathe to give them up. She became a crimelord to get revenge on Spider-Man after Otto Octavius -- who had pulled a GrandTheftMe on Peter Parker -- beat her up, rejecting Peter's apology once he got his body back. She also ''really'' hates [[ComicBook/{{Venom}} Eddie Brock]] for having beaten her to a pulp in their first encounter and would love nothing more than the chance to kill him, [[ReformedButRejected sneering at his efforts to redeem himself]]; Lee Price for having humiliated her by hijacking control of her criminal organization and enslaving her using his symbiote; and symbiotes in general ever since she first got the suspicion that something was off about Spider-Man's black suit.
* TheJinx: Weaponized with her "bad luck" powerset, but the original version also affected her allies as well due to PowerIncontinence.
* KarmaHoudini: This is a zigzagged trope. Felicia is one of the single best professional thieves in the Marvel Universe, but she can walk right up to ComicBook/CaptainAmerica and say hello without a problem. This is the result of receiving a pardon in the mid-'80s after helping save the city from Doctor Octopus and becoming Spidey's partner and a fully accepted member of the superhero community in her own right. Her swift defeat at the Superior Spider-Man's hands, and the subsequent fallout afterwards, leads her back to villainy.
* LegacyCharacter: DependingOnTheWriter, the Black Cat is a mantle passed from generation to generation.
* TheLoinsSleepTonight: In a ''ComicBook/WhatIf'' dual-issue where Spider-Man marries her instead of ComicBook/MaryJaneWatson, ''Felicia'' herself suffers from this on their wedding night, the implication being that she doesn't find Peter Parker sexually attractive at all, [[LovesMyAlterEgo being only attracted to Spider-Man]]. It isn't until they return to New York City and [[SexIsViolence start fighting crime again that her libido returns]], leaving Peter torn about his decision to wed her in the first place.
* LovesMyAlterEgo: The biggest black spot in her relationship with Spider-Man. She finds him fun and exciting, and proves herself a compatible partner to his heroics, but becomes extremely weirded out when she meets his civilian identity of Peter Parker, finding him plain and boring. In ''ComicBook/UltimateSpiderMan'', she goes so far as to vomit on him after lifting the mask due to him being a ''lot'' younger than she expected. It's referenced in ''VideoGame/MarvelAvengersAlliance'', where their team-up bonus is called as "cosplayers", as they are closer when they're in costume. This is something she really starts mentally kicking herself for after she realizes that she really '''does''' love Peter... a little too late, since he's HappilyMarried to MJ by that point.
* MaleGaze: It is not uncommon for artists to take advantage of Felicia's very attractive figure to get some tantalizing shots.
* MaleMightFemaleFinesse: During her time as Spidey's partner, her gracefulness and finesse were often contrasted with his LightningBruiser fighting style.
* MaliciousMisnaming: She had a habit of misnaming Mary Jane calling her Molly Jo or Myra Jeanne. MJ responded by calling her Felicity.
* ManOfKryptonite: An interesting variation. As revealed in ''Black Cat'' #3, Felicia's "bad luck" powers have the effect of unraveling malicious spells upon her person as her Luck abilities are Quantum-based, meaning they trump all but the most powerful of magicians and sorcerers. In a nutshell, Felicia is walking, talking AntiMagic in a catsuit.
* TheMistress: She would occasionally joke about being this for Peter when he was married to Mary Jane but Peter always turned her down.
* MostCommonSuperpower: While Felicia started out with a fairly average bust, she is currently one of Spider-Man's most buxom female co-stars. They [[http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/6/68486/1370637-bc_sm_ballast.png act as ballast]].
* MsFanservice: She is hands-down the bustiest of Peter's love interests and [[AbsoluteCleavage isn't afraid to show it]].
* NeverMyFault:
** Her vendetta against Spider-Man in the 80s and 90s was due to her refusal to acknowledge that her refusal to change her ways was the reason their relationship ended. She also treated M.J. like she had stolen Peter from her when Peter's reason for dumping Felicia had nothing to do with M.J.
** During her Queenpin phase, Felicia blamed Spider-Man for her going to prison and losing everything. Putting aside that it was actually Dr. Octopus, Felicia never would have wound up in that position if she wasn't a thief.
** Felicia has also been on the receiving end of this trope. In her 90s miniseries, it is revealed that Felicia once had a partner and occasional lover named Brian Lash. During a heist, Brian went rogue and tried to steal more than they had agreed to and kill a security guard. Felicia had a policy against hurting people in her heists and tried to stop Brian, scarring him in the process and putting him in a coma. When Brian awoke, he sought out Felicia to exact his revenge and she told him bluntly she would not take responsibility for his own mistakes.
* OhCrap: When she makes her FaceHeelTurn apparent to Peter, he scares her off by pretending to be [=SpOck=].
* OneLastJob: In ''Silk'' #9 [[spoiler: Felicia reveals all the crimes were leading into a possible retirement. All that money and goods were taken away once she went to jail, hence her desire to go "beyond bad" against the world]].
* PaperThinDisguise: While tailing the members of S.C.A.R.s, Felicia simply wears a coat and a pair of sunglasses. This is lampshaded by the villains who instantly recognize her and mock her poor attempt at a disguise.
* PetTheDog: She at one point saved Luke Cage's life ''after'' her turn to full-on villainy. [[spoiler: This also gets her shot up by Diamondback]].
** In her solo series, her theft of a painting costs a security guard named Sonny Campo his job resulting in him working for Odessa Drake, the leader of New York branch of the Thieves' Guild. Feeling bad for him, Felicia gives him ten grand and warns him to stay away from Odessa for his own safety.
* PowerCreepPowerSeep: Her solo series by Jed [=MacKay=] gives her bad luck powers AntiMagic properties. This allows her to defeat Xander the Merciless, a villain specifically empowered to kill ComicBook/DoctorStrange.
* ThePowerOfHate: Felicia's luck manipulation abilities grow stronger the more ruthless she is, and she has a reputation for holding vehement grudges.
* PressurePoint: Felicia displays the ability to use this skill in her 90s miniseries.
* PrettyInMink: The majority of her outfits have fur in the neckline and limbs.
* PrivateDetective: This was her job from the 90s to 2000s.
* PsychoactivePowers: Following her FaceHeelTurn, Felicia discovers that the more ruthless she is, the more her bad luck powers work in her favor (which further drives her to embrace her new way of life).
* PsychoExGirlfriend: After being trashed by Otto in Spider Man's body, she embraces this with a '''[[AxCrazy vengeance]]'''.
* PunchClockHero: she ran a detective agency and was also a member of the ComicBook/HeroesForHire. Crossed over with PunchClockVillain, as For a time, she also occasionally did jobs for the Owl, who was a mob boss but he never offered her any job that was against her moral standards.
* RapeAsBackstory: She had rape retconned into her backstory, making her similar to the Young Hawkeye version, and removing her freewheeling adventuress origin in favor of a rape victim who turned burglar as a displaced reaction to her attack.
* ReallyGetsAround: Openly admits to Peter during the ''Shed'' arc that she isn't adverse to getting some from people who aren't him, and advises he do the same. Granted, [[UrbanLegendLoveLife she tends to exaggerate to make him jealous]]. Her 2019 and 2020 solo series dive into this a bit more, showing that she does indeed have a wide range of lovers; male, female, heroes and villains.
* ReformedCriminal: From the 90s to the early 2000s, Felicia had largely left her life as a thief in the past. Sadly, this was undone after ''One More Day'' and she has since gone back to her criminal ways.
* {{Retcon}}:
** As mentioned above, she was originally more laidback and freewheeling before Kevin Smith was allowed to retcon her early behavior as a misplaced reaction to being a rape victim.
** Her last FaceHeelTurn is based on the fact that her arrest after being beaten by Superior Spider-Man revealed her identity and cost her just about everything. However, Black Cat's civilian identity as Felica Hardy was known to NYPD Captain Jean [=DeWolff=] and she's been arrested before.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: When the Superior Spider-Man beat the snot out of her, knocked out a tooth, and webbed her up for the cops without so much as a backwards glance during a chance encounter, Felicia swore revenge and [[spoiler:after Peter gets his body back]] refuses to let such a petty excuse as having his body hijacked dissuade her from it. To be fair, she lost ''everything'' as a result of being arrested and having her identity revealed to the public.
* RoguesGalleryTransplant: Felicia was originally created by Creator/MarvWolfman and Creator/KeithPollard to be a female foil for ComicBook/SpiderWoman; however, Wolfman was transferred to ''Spider-Man'' before he could introduce her, and he brought her with him.
* RoofHopping: By means of a grappling hook, which she also uses to mimic Spider-Man's web-swinging.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: Played with; Peter dumps her because she only has interest in his Spider-Man persona.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: How does Peter get the now-evil Felicia to back off? By pretending that he's still Doc Ock. He later {{lampshades}} how he spoke with "Did I really sound like that when he was me?"
* SecretIdentityIdentity: Back in the day she identified more with herself as Black Cat than as Felicia Hardy, and preferred to think of Spider-Man as the same way, not really liking the idea that there's a person with his own life under the mask. The [[VideoGame/SpiderMan2 video-game adaptation]] of ''Film/SpiderMan2'' and ''VideoGame/SpiderManWebOfShadows'' has her try to convince Peter to give up his civilian identity and become a hero full-time.
* SecretKeeper: Until One More Day she new who Spider-man was, but like almost everyone else she was made to forget. In issue 10 of the 2018 relaunch of Amazing Spider-man, after seeing that Felicia truly was good again and how much it hurt her that she was made to forget the real him, Pete again reveals his true identity to her.
* SeriesContinuityError: One of the reasons Felicia is so angry at Spider-Man is that the police now know who she is, confiscated all her stuff, and released her identity to the public, meaning that none of her underworld contacts want to associate with her anymore. However, in an early storyline it was revealed that NYPD Captain Jean [=DeWolff=] was well aware of who the Black Cat was under her domino mask.
* SexGoddess: While reminiscing about their sex life, Peter once claimed she had been "the most fun he ever had".
* SexyCatPerson: Cat-themed and heavily sexualised.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: During her first theft as the Black Cat, she meets Spider-Man. She falls in love with him, given how he's a genuinely trustworthy person who wants to help her redeem herself. Unfortunately, her constant going back on forth on being a crook or a hero makes their romance difficult.
* TheSmartGirl: In ''ComicBook/HeroesForHire'', she was their infiltration expert.
* SnarkToSnarkCombat: She and Spider-Man always indulge in a very flirty version of this.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Plays this role in the 2017 Defenders series when Diamondback poisons Luke Cage in front of her as a show that he is the new underworld power in town. He then leaves before Luke actually dies, it apparently never occurred to him that instead of allowing one of her enemies to die Felicia would instead take him to the Night Nurse to be saved.
* StalkerWithACrush: She started out being one of these towards Spider-Man. She even had [[StalkerShrine a room sized shrine dedicated to him]], which he found a bit unnerving (but [[StalkingIsLove not enough to stop him from dating her]] for a while).
* StartOfDarkness: Her descent into new Spidey villainhood is because the Superior Spider-Man knocked her out and left her for the cops, humiliating her horribly.
* StatuesqueStunner: She's a 5' 10" tall HeadTurningBeauty, which has her being taller than Peter.
* StickyFingers: Even when she was a hero, she was prone to stealing stuff.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Her costume was designed to give enemies a [[AbsoluteCleavage distracting view]]. Her post-FaceHeelTurn outfit dispenses with that aspect.
* TheTease: She always loves to get Peter flustered, whether or not they're actually dating at the moment. She notes that he gets so cute that she can't help herself.
* ThanksForTheMammary: Wolverine needs to stop Black Cat from walking into a minefield in the ''Claws'' mini-series. She's behind him, so he puts out his hand to stop her. Of course his hand lands right on her... chest. She gets angry, but Wolverine's in a cannot-be-embarrassed mode.
* ThrillSeeker: Part of the reason Felicia is a thief is because she really enjoys it.
* UrbanLegendLoveLife: The actual number of lovers she's had is quite low compared to what her reputation says. [[OperationJealousy She sometimes exaggerates it herself to see how Peter would react.]]
* VictoriasSecretCompartment: While she and Spider-Man are breaking into the Latverian Embassy in ''Spider-Man Unlimited'' #14, Felicia states that she keeps her tools in her cleavage since most of her costumes don't have pockets.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Sometimes has this relationship with Mary Jane. Also will have this with other hero types, especially Peter due to their history.
* WhatTheHellHero: When Felicia berates him for failing to pay her, the Ringer calls her out on her new cold attitude, stating that the Black Cat he'd worked with before, the one everyone used to know and love, had a heart and asks ''[[IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight her]]'' [[IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight to show him mercy]]. Unfortunately, this was just a ploy to get her to let her guard down, and only serves to harden her even further.
* WindsOfDestinyChange: She had this power for a time, but Spidey had ComicBook/DoctorStrange get rid of it after he learned that [[PowerIncontinence she couldn't stop it]] from jinxing ''him'' too. It cut off right in the middle of a life-or-death fight, and when she barely managed to get out of there and find out what happened, she was understandably ''pissed.'' Mr. Negative later had her luck-altering powers restored with a cybernetically implanted quantum probability pulsator, giving her increased conscious control over them.
* WhipItGood: Her post-FaceHeelTurn outfit includes a metal whip.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: She has platinum blonde hair, and plays the "black heart" part after FaceHeelTurn.
* WillNotBeAVictim: This was the reason for her becoming the Black Cat as per the retcon in ''The Evil That Men Do''. When she was raped by her college boyfriend Ryan, Felicia didn't want to be "just another statistic" and so decided to hone her body into a powerful fighting machine with the intention of killing Ryan. Unfortunately, Ryan died in a drunk driving accident preventing Felicia from taking her revenge and making this something of a subversion of this trope. Felicia tells Francis Klum, a fellow rape survivor, that she if she could go back in time she'd have reported the rape and gotten therapy.
* WindsOfDestinyChange: When initially introduced, part of her schtick during a robbery was setting things up beforehand so that it would seem that those who chased her were falling prey to completely random acts of God. Then she did actually get "bad luck" powers that allowed her to affect probabilities in her favor.
* WolverineClaws: The gloves of Felicia's costume contain retractable claws that can be used for scaling walls like Spider-Man or as weapons in a fight. When she had her feline powers her fingers had naturally retractable claws. Sources conflict on whether or not Dr. Tramma surgically implanted cybernetic claws into Felicia's fingers when she installed the quantum probability pulsator.
* WordsCanBreakMyBones: The limited series, ''The Supernaturals'', had a version of the Black Cat who could cause things to happen by speaking certain phrases aloud (for example, she could make a noose snap by saying "break"). [[LogicalWeakness This ability was shown to be useless once Jack O'Lantern taped Felicia's mouth shut.]]
* WorkingWithTheEx: Has often partner-up with Spider-Man even after their break-up. They usually act as AmicableExes, but there's usually some form of BelligerentSexualTension in their interactions.
* YouHaveFailedMe: When the Ringer fails to give her a cut of his haul - having had to pay off a number of debts beforehand -- Felicia has him hauled off to the backroom for some ColdBloodedTorture at the hands of Killer Shrike and Melter.

to:

!!Black Cat provides examples of:

* AbsoluteCleavage: She's had several outfits that all tend to draw on the same basic design scheme, but the unifying factor is that they almost all tend to have an impossibly low neckline. Totally averted after [[spoiler:she breaks out of prison following her defeat and arrest at the hands of the Superior Spider-Man]].
* ActionGirl: Even without her superpowers, Felicia is an accomplished gymnast and martial artist. She also counts as a DarkActionGirl, depending on where she is on the morality scale.
* AdaptationalHeroism:
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange:
* AdaptationDyeJob:
* {{Cyborg}}: Felicia's counterpart in ''Manga/MarvelMangaverse'' is cybernetically enhanced.
* DatingCatwoman:
* DerailingLoveInterests:
* EvenEvilHasStandards:
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer:
* EvolutionaryLevels: In some storylines[=/=]continuities, she’s a low-level Mutant.
* ExpositionFairy: In ''VideoGame/SpiderMan'' (2000) and ''VideoGame/SpiderMan2'' game.
-->'''Black Cat''': What's [Scorpia] saying now?\\
'''Spider-Man''': She says no woman with a chest like yours should be able to move as fast as you do!
* NeverMyFault:
* {{Retcon}}:

Added DiffLines:

!!Tropes:

* AbledInTheAdaptation: Both of his animated counterparts to date don't have the same disease that plagues the comic character -- though the '90s ''Spider-Man'' cartoon Morbius is still trying to cure one.
* AbortedArc:
** The ''Strange Tales'' story where Morbius goes to New Orleans to help Martine's niece. It is left on a {{cliffhanger}} too.
** The 8-page story in ''Amazing Fantasy vol 2 #17'' sets up multiple plotlines that were never followed up on, like Nikos having been found by real vampires and turned into one after Morbius killed him so he could seek revenge, the vampires saying they will meet again because Morbius has to pay for poisoning the pure bloodline of true vampires, or the implication that every person Morbius ever bit without killing them turned into a living vampire as well.
* AdaptationalVillainy: In ''WesternAnimation/{{Ultimate Spider-Man}}'' he works for ComicBook/{{HYDRA}}.
* AlliterativeName: It runs in the family apparently: his father is named Makarioa Morbius. There is also the alias Morgan Michaels.
* AntiHero / AntiVillain: In his original 70's series, later got turned more into a NinetiesAntiHero. He is fundamentally a good guy... when he's not hungry.
* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: Some of this in the earlier comics, both Martine and Amanda. He's also responsible for She-Hulk's current condition, it being the side effect of a potential cure he was going to use on himself.
* AsLongAsItSoundsForeign: "Michael Morbius" is far from a Greek name. On at least one occasion it's questioned why his first name is not Michalis (the Greek version of Michael), the answer simply being that "[his] mother preferred Michael".
* BadAssLongCoat: Michael "borrows" one from a man on the subway during his fight with Noah, and is seen wearing it later on.
* BatOutOfHell: An ''ComicBook/{{Exiles}}'' story arc features an alternate universe Morbius who was transformed into a monstrous bat creature when a sorcerer used magic to bring out the worst in him. He's also turned into a giant half man/half bat in ''WesternAnimation/SpiderManTheAnimatedSeries'' and ''WesternAnimation/{{Ultimate Spider-Man}}''.
* BlessedWithSuck: His superhuman powers come at the cost of having an overwhelming bloodlust along with a mental desire to kill. His powers are actually dependent on the amount of blood he has ingested: he'll grown weaker the longer he goes without a "fix".
* BloodFromTheMouth: Inverted in ''Morbius'' v2 #2. Morbius coughs up blood just as the wound from a shotgun blast to the chest heals and gets back up.
* BoltOfDivineRetribution: In ''Vampire Tales'' #10 Morbius meets a woman who cares for him and tries to instill him with faith. After she is killed and Morbius has slaughtered those responsible in revenge, he yells that the only faith he'll believe in is that which strikes him dead where he stands. A bolt of lightning strikes at his feet, exploding the body of one of the woman's killers.
* ButterFace: He had kind of a weird-looking face even as a human; being turned into a living vampire made it more extreme, while it did wonders for his physique.
* CameBackWrong: After he is killed by Switchblade, Morbius is resurrected without his soul, which has remained behind in the afterlife. On top of that, he hadn't been brought back to actual life, but instead had been revived as an undead being.
* ComicBookFantasyCasting: Artist Gil Kane based Morbius' appearance on that of actor Jack Palance when he created the character.
* CreepyShadowedUndereyes: He is commonly drawn like this.
* CurbStompBattle: His (and Doc Ock!Spider-Man)'s battle with Nikoleta Harrow is easily this, with both of them being taken out twice and Nikoleta managing to beat the hell out of Michael and leave him in a burning building before disappearing.
* DarkIsNotEvil: He looks terrifying and he regularly causes huge messes for others when he loses control, but at the end of the day, he's a good dude with a whole lot of serious problems who tries his best to make the most of his situation and mitigate the impact of his feral spells when they do happen.
* DeathByOriginStory: Nikos
* DeadpanSnarker: Shades of this in a few of his appearances, especially in the Marvel NOW! Series.
* {{Dehumanization}}: When he is captured by ComicBook/{{Hydra}} he is referred to as a "thing" and an "it" multiple times, likely because they only see him as a piece of equipment that can be used to achieve their goals.
* DelinquentHair: Noah St. Germain, the guy at the top of the criminal world in Brownsville, has a blue mohawk.
* DestinedBystander: In ''TAS'' Morbius appears several times before becoming a living vampire.
* DisappearedDad: Morbius grew up without his father, whom he does not recall ever seeing in person, and does not recognize his voice when speaking to him over the phone. It's shown his parents had some kind of an agreement that Morbius' father would stay out of his wife's and son's lives, probably because he was involved in crime.
* DontLookAtMe: On occasion Morbius is shown to be pretty ashamed of his appearance, such as in ''Marvel Preview'' v1 #8 while he hides his face from his friend Ronson's daughter and wants her out before she sees him. He does this again in ''Morbius'' v1 #1 and says these exact words when he is confronted by his ex-fiancée Martine.
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette: His origin story in ''Amazing Spider-Man'' 699.1 shows he fit this trope even before becoming a living vampire, having black hair and a rather pale complexion due to his blood disease. Becoming a vampire made it more extreme.
* EnfantTerrible: Tara
* EvilCounterpart: Vic Slaughter
* EvilMakesYouUgly: When possessed by the Lilin Bloodthirst Morbius gets even uglier than normal.
* EvilVersusEvil: When he first showed up, he fought the Lizard as well as Spider-Man.
* FlyingBrick: Can fly and is strong.
* FriendlyNeighborhoodVampire: At times.
* FullMoonSilhouette: Occasionally used when Morbius flies at night. For example, an issue of ''Exiles'' introduces a further mutated, alternate universe version of Morbius like this.
* FurAgainstFang: The first couple of times Morbius the Living Vampire and ComicBook/WerewolfByNight's paths cross, they end up fighting, but it's not anything personal: Morbius is subject to HorrorHunger and the werewolf will attack anything that moves when it's a full moon. Over the years they grow to be best friends, although the occasional fighting is not something they get rid off entirely.
* GeniusCripple: Before being 'cured' and turned into a vampire at least. In his [[{{Rewrite}} rewritten]] origin story he won a Nobel prize but didn't attend the ceremony, because even lifting a tea cup caused the bones in his fingers to break.
* [[GetAHoldOfYourselfMan Get A Hold Of Yourself Woman]]: Applied to Amanda in ''Vampire Tales'' #7 though she suspects it was more because she insulted Morbius by calling him a vampire.
* GreaterNeedThanMine: Gives the cure he was going to use on himself to She-Hulk to cure her fatal blood disease.
* GoneHorriblyWrong: The experiment that was supposed to counter his blood disease had some rather unfortunate side-effects.
* GoodHairEvilHair: The soulpatch/chin tuft Morbius often sports is most commonly associated with anti-heroes.
* HairColorDissonance: Especially in earlier comics Morbius' black hair is shown as blue.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: Started as an anti-villain, then went to being the anti-hero, eventually got upgraded to a nineties anti-hero who constantly fought against Spider-Man yet would help people in need, unless he felt like eating them.
* HighCollarOfDoom: Has one when he is introduced as a TragicVillain in the pages of ''Amazing Spider-Man''. Later inverted when he becomes more of an Anti-Hero, sometimes a hero outright but still wears the same outfit, with the collar often being drawn even higher and more pronounced than it was in his first appearance.
* HorrorHunger: The main cause of all his struggles and his desire to undo his curse.
* HospitalHottie: During his stint at St. Jude's several characters think he's quite good-looking.
* HumanShield: Morbius did this once when facing off with the ComicBook/XMen. He snatches Jean Grey and threatens to snap her neck unless Cyclops backs off. Scott just adjusts his glasses a bit and fires behind Morbius, striking a mirror and causing his eye-beams to re-direct into the vampire's back.
* HunterOfHisOwnKind: In the UltimateUniverse Morbius is a true vampire and UsefulNotes/VladTheImpaler's brother. He fights against vampires and prevents other people from being turned into them.
* HybridMonster: In ''ComicBook/MarvelZombies 3'' there's a zombie version of Morbius, who calls himself a vambie.
* IAmAMonster: Sometimes, though at other times he rejects it outright.
* IHaveYourWife: In his Marvel NOW! series, the Rose tells Morbius he has his mother, and gives him her wedding ring as a reminder he works for him now. [[spoiler:Subverted when Morbius reveals his mother died years ago. The Rose's employer, who provided the ring, knows Morbius would know the threat was empty — so it was the Rose who was being conned.]]
* IJustWantToBeNormal: The single motivation that has remained a constant throughout all of Morbius' appearances since his introduction is the desire to undo the scientific accident that made him a living vampire and become a normal human being once more.
* IconicOutfit: The red and black bodysuit he originally wore as insulation against the electric shock during the experiment that transformed him.
* InSeriesNickName: Becky refers to Michael as 'Mike' when introducing him to members of Brownsville, and seems content to stick with that much to his chagrin. Him constantly correcting her becomes a bit of a RunningGag.
* InsanityDefense: Successfully argued by attorney [[ComicBook/SheHulk Jennifer Walters]], avoiding the death penalty for his crimes.
* InsistentTerminology: In ''WesternAnimation/SpiderManTheAnimatedSeries''.
-->'''Morbius:''' I borrowed this equipment from the ESU Science Department.
-->'''Felicia Hardy:''' Pilfered.
-->'''Morbius:''' ...Borrowed.
* InTheHood: The first few nights in Brownsville Morbius wears a hoodie with the hood up after he's escaped the Raft and is laying low.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: With [[ComicBook/WerewolfByNight Jack Russell]]. Morbius was already an M.D. with at least one Ph.D. and a Nobel prize under his belt before Jack had even turned 18.
* InterruptedSuicide: Due to overwhelming guilt and generally being unable to cope with being a living vampire, he has attempted suicide several times, but laments that each time someone has stopped him or brought him back.
* KidSidekick: Played with in his Marvel NOW! series with the teenager Becky, who keeps saying she's his sidekick but Morbius insists she's not.
* LastNameBasis: He is almost always called by his last name, both in and out of universe. Only friends (sometimes) use his first name, "Or they would, if I had any."
* LimitedWardrobe: His black and red body suit. He's worn it for over 45 years now and though he sometimes switches things around he always goes back to it. Man must have one hell of a dry-cleaning bill.
* LooksLikeCesare: He is commonly portrayed like this.
* LooksLikeOrlok: When drawn by Tony Moore in the "Franken-Castle" arc, as well as by Paolo Rivera in ''Spectacular Spider-Man'' #14.
* LovesMyAlterEgo: Lena falls in love with Morgan Michaels, but she hates Michael Morbius.
* ManlyTears: Cries when Marie Laveau turns him back into a living vampire against his will after he had been cured.
* MookHorrorShow: The 2019 series opens with this, as Morbius tears through a gang assembled by The Melter.
* MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily: DependingOnTheArtist, of course, but sometimes Morbius has been depicted with a particularly toothsome jawline. In particular, the teaser posters for the 2020 Morbius film depict him post-transformation with ripped-off lips and cheeks, creating a toothy ear-to-ear GlasgowGrin barely hidden by his high collar.
* MuggingTheMonster:
** Subverted in the NinetiesAntiHero comic as this happens soon after Morbius has found a way to make himself human again, and thus is unable to defend himself against several robbers (but gets revenge later).
** Played straight in other comics where people have tried to steal from a "corpse" or robbers have mistaken him as a harmless hobo.
** Members of the [[PoliticallyIncorrectVillain Friends of Humanity]] attack him because they think him to be a mutant. He would likely have killed them if Spider-Man hadn't stopped him. (Then again, this is [[TooDumbToLive far from the first time]] the Friends of Humanity have made this mistake.)
* {{Mutants}}: He started out as an ordinary human being but was altered when an experiment involving vampire bats went wrong.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Blood-Tide, Death-Flame, Vic Slaughter...
* NonhumansLackAttributes: An ''ComicBook/{{Exiles}}'' storyline introduces an alternate universe version of Morbius who looks like a giant bat. He is naked all of the time and doesn't have genitals or nipples.
* TheNoseless: Though he's commonly drawn as having an upturned or bat-like nose, some artists (such as Matthew Clark in ''Amazing ComicBook/SpiderMan'' 679.1) draw him without a nose at all.
* ObliviouslyEvil: A particularly tragic example in one of Todd [=McFarlane=]'s ''ComicBook/SpiderMan'' stories, where Morbius hides in Manhattan's sewer and makes an agreement with a community of deformed, mentally ill humans living here: he protects them against their enemies and those who reject them, and they repay him by capturing bad people from the surface for him to feed on, thus sparing him the guilt of having to decide himself who deserves to be his victim. Unfortunately for him, their limited intelligence cause them to see ''all'' people from the surface as bad people, and they end up delivering him several innocent hobos. When Spider-Man gets involved in the case and reveals him the truth, Morbius is [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone horrified]] to realize he unintentionally caused innocents to kill other innocents and runs away from the community.
* OddFriendship: With ComicBook/WerewolfByNight.
* OneManArmy: Manages to take out all of Noah St. Germain's thugs as well as the people working for the Rose single-handedly.
* OppositesAttract: Morbius and his fiancée Martine are each others' opposites in looks as well as personality. Morbius himself even wonders out loud how "an out and about society girl" could fall in love with "a morose scientist who can't stand the sun".
* OurVampiresAreDifferent:
** Besides himself being different (notice the "living vampire" moniker), he also inadvertently created another different vampire called Blade, though this was eventually retconned as Morbius' bite not having changed him at all.
*** He also bites [[ComicBook/XMan Nate Grey]], and winds up sort of turning him. However, this was implied to be more thanks to Nate's vast PsychicPowers - essentially, he believed that since he was bitten by a vampire, he would turn into one himself, and since he believed it, his powers subconsciously made it happen. It didn't stick.
** The [[WesternAnimation/SpiderManTheAnimatedSeries '90s cartoon depiction]] makes him even weirder by giving him myriad small, leech-like mouths in each hand, causing him to feed by grabbing hold of victims and sucking out the blood through them, instead of biting necks. It was supposed to make him more "kid friendly". Most would say it had quite the opposite effect. He spent a brief period of time as a hulking anthropomorphic bat version of himself as well.
** In ''WesternAnimation/{{Ultimate Spider-Man}}'' he is transformed when ComicBook/DoctorOctopus injects him with vampire bat formula. It gives him the ability to [[VampiricDraining drain people]] of their LifeEnergy, which he can do without physical contact.
* PainfulTransformation: In his first solo series Morbius is able to turn back into a human for short amounts of time thanks to a serum derived from Spider-Man's blood. The change from vampire to human and back is very painful, with lots of screaming involved.
* PastExperienceNightmare: In his first appearance in ''Amazing ComicBook/SpiderMan'' #101-102 his backstory is retold through the nightmares he suffers, in which he keeps recounting the scientific accident and killing Emil. He is occasionally shown to be reluctant to go to sleep because he knows he'll have more nightmares.
* PayEvilUntoEvil: Morbius uses this as a solution to slake his bloodthirst, figuring that if he needs to kill, he'll kill serious criminals.
* PeopleJars: Morbius has one in his Monster Metropolis lab which he keeps Werewolf by Night in after he is [[spoiler:infected with the zombie virus]].
* PeoplePuppets: In the ''VideoGame/SpiderMan3'' video game Shriek uses her powers to make him fight Spider-Man against his will. He repeatedly asks her to stop, to no avail.
* PointyEars: He initially did not have them, but later artists started adding them after which they quickly became a standard part of his appearance.
* PowerPalms: In ''WesternAnimation/SpiderManTheAnimatedSeries'' Morbius could suck people's plasma through holes on his palms.
* ProHumanTranshuman: Though genetically he is not completely human anymore, Morbius still cares about humans a whole lot, such as when he runs a free clinic for the poor and when he defends the people of Brownsville from the criminals that run the town.
* ProfessorGuineaPig: To his defense he was running out of time and had tested at least ''some'' parts.
* RageAgainstTheReflection: In his first solo series, Michael uses Spider-Man's blood to develop a serum that changes him back into a human. While out on the street, he is attacked by a gang who beat him up. Crawling out of the gutter they left him lying in, he makes his way across the sidewalk to look into a shop window and sees he has reverted back to his vampire self. He runs off after punching a hole in the shop window.
* RealAwardFictionalCharacter: Won a Nobel Prize for his blood-related research.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Introduced as a ''ComicBook/SpiderMan'' villain but later turned an AntiHero, Morbius' IconicOutfit is black and red. Originally his eyes were shown as pink but were later changed to red, making his entire color scheme white-black-red.
* RelatedInTheAdaptation:
** He's married to Shriek in the ''VideoGame/SpiderMan3'' tie-in game, while in the comics the two have no connection to each other and even fought against one another in the ''ComicBook/MaximumCarnage'' storyline.
** His ''ComicBook/UltimateMarvel'' counterpart is {{Dracula}}'s brother--which in turn makes him a distant relative of ComicBook/DoctorDoom, who's one of Dracula's descendants.
* In ''WesternAnimation/SpiderManTheAnimatedSeries'', he was mutated by being bitten by a vampire bat that he accidentally zapped with the Neogenic Recombinator whilst it was feeding on a sample of Peter Parker's blood he was testing it on. This results in a two-fer; not only is Spidey's blood stated to be the partial cause of his transformation, but they both transformed by being bitten by creatures exposed to the same bio-genetic altering radiation.
* ReligionOfEvil: Has battled against these more than once, which is ironic, seeing how he likes to remind people that he's a rational scientist.
* ResistTheBeast: He usually loses.
* SerialKillerKiller: For a time Morbius would only drink the blood of the guilty.
* ShirtlessScene: Both the 90's series and the Marvel NOW! run have quite a few of these.
* ASinisterClue: When Morbius is shown writing on something like a clipboard in volume 1 he does so with his left hand.
* SlidingScaleOfBeauty: Started out around XII as a human, with people laughing behind his fiancée's back for being with someone as ugly as him, and his attorney [[ComicBook/SheHulk Jennifer Walters]] saying he's weird-looking. Slides to XIII after being turned into a living vampire, with people describing him as looking like the back-end of a bulldog, and one of Spider-Man's first thoughts when coming face-to-face with him for the first time being "His face—it's hideous!"
* TheSoulless: After having been killed by Blade, Morbius is accidentally resurrected as an undead, soulless being. He is later brought back to proper life, but is never shown to actually get back his soul. It doesn't really seem to change him at all; he mentions his emotions are numbed somewhat but he is portrayed the way he always was: as a deeply flawed but fundamentally good person and caring doctor. The fact that he's soulless hasn't been mentioned in years and most writers even seem to have forgotten entirely.
* StakingTheLovedOne: Morbius staked (or caused to be staked) [[spoiler:his ex-fiancée Martine]] after she became a true vampire and tried to convince him to let her turn him into one too.
* StockSuperheroDayJobs: Of the scientist variety. Morbius worked as a hemato(patho)logist during one of his stable periods, and worked for a pharmaceutical company during another.
* StockSuperpowers:
* TattooedCrook: Noah St. German is heavily tattooed, even on his face.
* TheseHandsHaveKilled: Morbius does this in his rewritten origin story after killing his lifelong friend Emil Nikos.
* ThirdPersonPerson: At times, though it's not very consistent from one appearance to the next.
* TotallyNotAWerewolf: The MarvelUniverse has plenty of vampires. Morbius differs from the rest by his scientific origin (combined with DNA of a vampire bat), and the fact that he is very much a living being. How much this trope applies varies [[DependingOnTheWriter depends on the writer]].
* TyopOnTheCover: Morbius' name is misspelled as Moribus on the cover of ''Amazing Spider-Man'' #102.
* UglyGuyHotWife: When he was engaged to Martine he wondered how he got so lucky.
* UglyHeroGoodLookingVillain: He didn't think highly of his appearance even as a human, and turning into a vampire didn't help at all. In contrast, quite a few of the higher members of the Hell-Fire cult are handsome and beautiful.
* UndeathAlwaysEnds: Morbius was killed by Switchblade but not much later was resurrected as an undead being. True to his name, he reverted to being a ''living'' vampire about a year later.
* UnskilledButStrong: He's a doctor who spent most of his life in laboratories doing research before his transformation into a living vampire gave him tremendous strength. He doesn't seem to have much of a fighting technique beyond punching, tearing and biting his enemies, which gets even worse when he's in a blood frenzy that essentially reduces him to a mindless beast. But due to his strength he is able to hold his own against opponents such as Spider-Man, who on occasion even admits that he forgot how strong Morbius really is.
* VampiresHateGarlic: Averted, as he himself points out. He actually loves garlic, "especially in a nice pesto sauce."
* VampireVannabe: There's a club full of them and they just ''love'' Morbius, who is pretty freaked about by the idea that there are people who actually ''want'' to be vampires.
* VampireVords: His accent in ''WesternAnimation/SpiderManTheAnimatedSeries'' and the ''VideoGame/SpiderMan3'' video game.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Jack Russell a.k.a. ComicBook/WerewolfByNight.
* WeakenedByTheLight: Won't turn to ashes in sunlight like a regular vampire, but ''will'' quickly suffer burns due to his extremely pale skin.
* WealthyYachtOwner: Subverted. Martine thinks he's bought a yacht with the Nobel prize money, but it turns out it's merely a rental.
* WhatHaveIBecome: His exact words after having been turned into a living vampire and killing his friend Emil.
* WhoWritesThisCrap: In ''Marvel Zombies'' Comicbook/WerewolfByNight takes a jab at Morbius: "Ha! You're such a cliché. So emo all the time about the tragedy of bloodlust like some bad ''Literature/{{Twilight}}'' fanfic."
* WigDressAccent: In ''Strange Tales: Blade'', Morbius disguises himself as human to meet with Martine's relatives, which stretches quite a bit to PaperThinDisguise. Though he does wear reasonably normal clothes as opposed to his leather wear, he does nothing to his white skin, fangs, pointy ears or claws, making everyone creeped out by him. While he's not recognized as Michael Morbius, one of the family soon starts to suspect him to be a vampire and goes straight to ComicBook/{{Blade}} for help. Truly a Nobel-prize winning scientist at work.
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: At the end of the day, Morbius is a decent human being given an extremely raw deal thanks to a terrible genetic dice roll, who then made an incredibly bad choice out of desperation (without really having any way to know just how bad an idea it was), and turned into an abomination as a result. He must spend every waking moment fighting off the call of the beast (which he generally does a good job at, but he can count on slipping or losing control in spite of his best efforts on a fairly regular basis), while also needing to feed and having his only means of sustenance be something that is usually fatal to the other party. Half of the reason why he is even a vigilante boils down to his need to feed and desire to at least have ''some'' good come out of it, and while he tries to be careful, he is all too aware that his efforts as a vigilante frequently lead to gigantic messes that he has to clean up because he lost control. While most of his allies are wary of him (for good reason) and he has caused a lot of problems for a lot of people, none of them can deny that his life sucks and he's putting in the best effort he possibly can to help others and not wallow in misery.
* WouldntHurtAChild: The only type of prey Morbius is rarely seen to attack. There is one character who is a child who is rapidly aging and being reborn and eventually demands Morbius to attack in her child stage; he tries his damnest to resist, but ultimately gives in this horrifically bizarre situation.
* YouSexyBeast: Mandy certainly thinks this; she just ''loves'' the fact that Morbius is a vampire and much prefers his vampire form over his human one.

-->-- ''ComicBook/BlackCat2019'', ''ComicBook/KingInBlack'' tie-in.

Felicia is the daughter of Walter Hardy, the world-renowned cat burglar who, before his arrest, encouraged her to never settle for second best.

Although she was a villain in her first appearances (or rather, an AntiVillain), she became the third most prominent love interest in the series after Mary Jane and Gwen (some would argue she's more prominent than Gwen at this point, at least plot-wise). Although she has the particularity that, unlike those two, she was way more in love with the Spider-Man persona than with the Peter Parker persona, which was the main source of conflict in their relationship.

In her backstory in ''ComicBook/SpiderManBlackCatTheEvilThatMenDo'', it is revealed that she was raped by her boyfriend Ryan when she was a freshman at Empire State University. Hating the idea of being a victim, she trained herself in various fighting styles and acrobatics, intent on killing her rapist. Finally, after months of preparing, she set out for revenge, but before she could find him, Ryan was killed in a drunk driving accident. Furious that she was denied the chance for revenge, she decided to utilize her new skills to follow in her father's footsteps. After amassing a fortune in stolen items, Felicia adopted her costumed identity.

She first donned the Black Cat costume in order to break her father out of prison. On the same night, she met Spider-Man. Unfortunately for Felicia, her father died, and she then faked her own death. Despite her antipathy towards men, Felicia felt a kinship with this lone hero; Spider-Man was the first man she felt she could trust and she grew to believe herself in love with him. Felicia looked for a way to earn his trust and continued with the Black Cat persona as a misguided attempt to attract his affection. Seeing the good in Felicia, Spider-Man made every attempt to have her criminal record expunged.

Aside from her appearance in many Spider-Man comics, Black Cat has also appeared in ''ComicBook/HeroesForHire'' which took place during the ''ComicBook/CivilWar'' and ''Marvel Divas'' (a parody of ''Series/SexAndTheCity''). In ''ComicBook/MaximumCarnage'', she is one of Spidey's friends whom he seeks for help. Later after ''ComicBook/SpiderIsland'' event, she was blamed for the theft of a Holographic Projector from Horizon Labs. Since Spider-Man was with her at the time of the robbery, he knew that she was innocent and recruited [[ComicBook/{{Daredevil}} Matt Murdock]] to help prove her innocence. She also appeared in the mini-series ''Claws'' where she has a team-up with ComicBook/{{Wolverine}}.

In a part of the ''ComicBook/MarvelNOW'' event, she was contacted by her friend from ''Heroes for Hire'', Misty Knight, in order to help the [[ComicBook/TheDefenders Fearless Defenders]] fight the so-called Doom Maidens along with other female heroines such as ComicBook/{{Storm}}, Tigra, [[ComicBook/PatsyWalker Hellcat]], and ComicBook/{{Valkyrie|MarvelComics}}.

In ''ComicBook/SuperiorSpiderMan'', she was in the middle of a robbery when Spider-Man (who was actually ComicBook/DoctorOctopus in Peter Parker's body) attacked her without warning, leaving her beaten and wrapped in his webbing for the police to arrest. This left Felicia totally shocked and furious at not only her lover's perceived betrayal, but at the loss of all of her personal belongings and criminal contacts. Following the conclusion of the ''Superior Spider-Man'' storyline, which Peter Parker returned as the true Spider-Man, Black Cat swore revenge and later escaped when Electro staged a breakout at the prison where she was being held. She then became a genuine criminal, and is one of villains in the 2014-2015 ongoing mini-series ''ComicBook/{{Hawkeye}} vs. ComicBook/{{Deadpool}}''.

In the ''ComicBook/{{Silk}}'' solo series, Black Cat appears as a secondary antagonist whom Silk unknowingly thwarted by stopping her men. The two fight, but then one of Cat's men double-crosses her blowing up several of her men and almost killing Cat herself, all to kidnap Silk, so he could chop her up and sell the parts on the black market. Cat tracks her man and ends up saving Silk. Cat kills the man, which angers Silk because he was the closest lead she had to finding her parents; the two fight again, but it ends in a draw. In Volume 2, Silk is working for Black Cat, though in reality, she is TheMole placed by S.H.I.E.L.D. While undercover, Cat and Silk infiltrate and destroy the Goblin Nation, freeing people from the Goblin King's control. During this, Silk begins to bond with Cat and vice-versa; Silk seems to think there might still be good in Cat, though Cat claims she is AboveGoodAndEvil.

During the ''Venom Inc.'' storyline, Lee Price, the fifth Venom and the current holder of the Mania symbiote, took over Black Cat's criminal empire after she was affected by the symbiote. Freed by Spider-Man, Eddie Brock (now possessing the Venom symbiote again), Flash Thompson (who was transformed into "Agent" Anti-Venom) and later joined by the former holder of the Mania symbiote Andi Benson, Black Cat fought to stop Price's attempt to take over the Five Families, but lost her empire entirely. She ended her feud with Spider-Man due to his help, but was confronted by Eddie, who told her that being a criminal mastermind didn't suit her at all and she should go back to who she really is, the thief who has the heart of a hero.

After [[HazyFeelTurn hemming and hawwing over this sort of thing]], Felicia finally decided to abandon her evil ways during the attempt at filling the vacuum that Wilson Fisk left after he became mayor of New York City, exchanging information on the identities of who else was trying to play Kingpin in exchange for avoiding jail time. When the New York branch of the Thieves Guild made their move establishing their street cred in stealing heroes' gear, she teamed up with Spider-Man again, where she ultimately reveals the main reason for her turn to villainy -- that Peter's mindwipe via ''ComicBook/OneMoreDay'' affected Felicia terribly, making her feelings for him very hazy. Realizing the damage he caused, Peter revealed his identity to her again and the two finally became friends again.

Her [[ComicBook/SpiderManNoir Marvel Noir]] counterpart also has a supporting role in the ''ComicBook/SpiderVerse'' storyline.

Added DiffLines:

!!Black Cat provides examples of:

* AbsoluteCleavage: She's had several outfits that all tend to draw on the same basic design scheme, but the unifying factor is that they almost all tend to have an impossibly low neckline. Totally averted after [[spoiler:she breaks out of prison following her defeat and arrest at the hands of the Superior Spider-Man]].
* ActionGirl: Even without her superpowers, Felicia is an accomplished gymnast and martial artist. She also counts as a DarkActionGirl, depending on where she is on the morality scale.
* AdaptationalHeroism:
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange:
* AdaptationDyeJob:
* {{Cyborg}}: Felicia's counterpart in ''Manga/MarvelMangaverse'' is cybernetically enhanced.
* DatingCatwoman:
* DerailingLoveInterests:
* EvenEvilHasStandards:
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: In ''ComicBook/XFactor2006'', the villainess Rococo observes that Felicia has the "sweetest little rump".
* EvilMentor: Had become this for Silk in the second volume of Silk's solo series.
* EvolutionaryLevels: In some storylines[=/=]continuities, she’s a low-level Mutant.
* ExpositionFairy: In ''VideoGame/SpiderMan'' (2000) and ''VideoGame/SpiderMan2'' game.
-->'''Black Cat''': What's [Scorpia] saying now?\\
'''Spider-Man''': She says no woman with a chest like yours should be able to move as fast as you do!
* NeverMyFault:
* {{Retcon}}:

Jackson Arvad was Arvard worked as a scientist specializing in the Roxxon Energy Corporation's electromagnetic research. Finding himself in danger of losing research division. Arvard was under constant pressure from his funding, Jackson boss, James Melvin, to produce results or lose his job and as a result worked himself into exhaustion, eventually growing careless enough to cause the point of getting little sleep. This ultimately resulted in him getting caught in an accident at work involving a new electromagnetic device he was working on. Arvard discovered that resulted in the electromagnetic attraction between his molecules starting had been weakened, threatening his life.

Desperate, Arvard turned
to disperse, yet somehow allowing him to control them. In seeking out a cure, Jackson ran afoul of Dr. Jonas Harrow, leading to the first of many clashes scientist who operated on Hammerhead and gave him his metal skull. Instead, Harrow used a device on Arvard that placed him under the scientist's control and made him perform numerous robberies which led to him becoming in conflict with Spider-Man.Spider-Man. With Spider-Man's aid, Arvard freed himself from Harrow's control and used his power of hypnosis to to get Harrow to confess to his crimes.

* AntiVillain: At least initially. Arvard is less a villain and more a desperate man trying to save his life, with the true villains of the Will O' the Wisp stories being James Melvin, who left Arvard to for dead and only cared about the applications of Arvard's research, and Dr. Jonas Harrow, who was only using him for his own ends. He's pretty much more victim than villain.
* BallOfLightTransformation: Arvard can fly by making himself lighter than air and expelling a trail of excess molecules behind him. He gives off so much light when he does this that he looks like an ethereal glowing sphere.

* {{Flight}}: He can will himself to become lighter than air, allowing him to fly.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: He's been both a hero and a villain over the years, and has fought Spider-Man as often than he's aided him.

to:

* CharmPerson: Arvard can mesmerize people by making the emblem on his chest glow. Anyone who looks at it is instantly under his sway.
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: Attempted but subverted. He was one of the villains poisoned by ComicBook/ThePunisher during a wake for Stilt-Man. It was later revealed in She-Hulk's book that they survived.
* {{Flight}}: He Will O' the Wisp can will himself to become fly by becoming lighter than air, allowing air and expelling excess molecules in a single direction behind him, causing him to fly.

Added DiffLines:

* MonochromaticEyes: He has blank white eyes that give him a very creepy look. Especially when he smiles as seen in the image for this section.
* NighInvulnerability: He can also gain increased durability by increasing his density. Between this and his ability to turn intangible, Will O' the Wisp is virtually impervious to harm.
* PowerIncontinence: Initially, Arvard had difficulty maintaining a solid state after the accident, prompting him to turn to Harrow for help. He was cured of this problem by Dr. Maria Madison.
* SuperStrength: By increasing his density for ten minutes, Will O' the Wisp can gain super strength.

!!! '''First Appearance:''' ''The Amazing Spider-Man'' #342

When his older brother died of an incurable disease, Elias Wirtham dedicated himself to medicine, intending to save lives in honor of his brother's memory. Later, Wirtham discovered that a pharmaceutical company had developed a drug that could have saved Joshua's life but chose to withhold it as it wouldn't have been profitable to release it at the time. Angered and disgusted that his brother and so many others had died because of corporate greed, Elias subjected himself to experiments that replaced his heart with a beta particle reactor, and fused a Vibranium mesh into his skin. Assuming the costumed guise of Cardiac, he set out to avenge the deaths of innocents at the hands of individuals who were untouchable by the law.
----
* AntiHero: Cardiac can be extremely narrow-minded in his crusade and sometimes shows little concern for people caught in the crossfire. While investigating a corrupt pharmaceutical company, he and the ComicBook/BlackCat were attacked by a quartet of cyborgs. Cardiac kills them and Black Cat [[WhatTheHellHero castigates him for this]], saying that those cyborgs were probably victims of the company themselves and [[UnwillingRoboticisation had no choice in even becoming cyborgs]].

* NotQuiteFlight: The "Hawk-Glider" can link to Cardiac's Beta Staff and allows him to fly for short distances.
* NotSoDifferent: Cardiac didn't want to fight Spider-Man when they first met and believed they were on the same side.
* ScaryBlackMan: His suit makes look him rather intimidating, and even without it he's not particularly friendly looking.

This "cured" him by transforming him into a vampiric being that lusts after blood as a way to counter the disease. He also gained several other vampiric attributes, such as white skin, fangs, [[WeakenedByTheLight an allergy to sunlight]] (since he isn't undead, sunlight won't kill him outright, but his lack of melanin leads to quick burns), SuperStrength, a HealingFactor, and hollow bones which give him the capability of flight. Later he gains more supernatural abilities like hypnosis.

Because of his need to drink blood from living victims (stored blood contains too much anticoagulants for his body to handle, or the need to kill stays even after the physical need is satisfied) Morbius wallows in guilt and tries to find both an alternative substance to blood and a way to cure himself -- without much success. At best he has been able to change back into a human for some periods of time, but either has soon reverted back or retained the need to drink blood.

Despite all this, he's generally willing to help or at least unwilling to harm people he sees as innocent or has a closer relationship with.

I have left my old life behind. Now, I must model myself on Spider-Man. I must learn to control what I have. Whatever happens, whatever monsters come my way, I must never forget who I am, where I come from. I must do the right thing.''

Patrick "Pat" Mulligan was an NYPD police officer who had the misfortune of running across the supervillain Carnage, who had just spawned a baby symbiote. Too weak to kill them, Carnage bonded the infant symbiote to Patrick and left, intending to kill them once he regained his strength. When the symbiote matured, Venom named it Toxin, but when he realized that not only was it more powerful than both himself and Carnage combined but that it was unlikely to aid him in his crusade against Spider-Man, he joined with Carnage in trying to kill it. Pat accepted his bond with the symbiote and joined forces with Spider-Man and Black Cat in defeating them, and on a number of other occasions, leaving his family behind in order to tame the symbiote, eventually succeeding after stopping himself from killing Razorfist, who had killed Pat's father. Pat made a deal with the infantile symbiote: in exchange for complete control of its powers, it could take over his body for two hours a day, provided it didn't commit crimes. Pat was listed as one of the Civil War Initiative's potential recruits, but was ultimately beaten to death in a gutter by Blackheart, who stole the symbiote. The Crime Master later re-stole the symbiote and bonded it to Eddie Brock, who was initially taken over by the symbiote but later made a deal with it to return to his Lethal Protector lifestyle.
