* TenMinuteRetirement: At the beginning of vol.3, Miguel was determined to give up the heroics and live with Tempest. [[spoiler:When a terrorist attack "kills" her]], he drops this attitude pretty quickly.
* AbsurdlySharpClaws: His talons can cut through ''any'' material, including swords. The only thing they can't cut is unstable molecule fabric.

** In ''VideoGame/SpiderManShatteredDimensions'', Miguel is as chatty and snarky in combat as Peter, while in the comics he's almost mute and dead serious.
** In his cameo in TheStinger of ''WesternAnimation/SpiderManIntoTheSpiderVerse'', he gets into an argument over ''pointing'', which is completely out of character as he's usually pretty stoic. ''WesternAnimation/SpiderManAcrossTheSpiderVerse'' ends up [[CharacterRerailment correcting this]] and turning him back into a very dour, significantly more aggressive individual like he is in the comics.
** In the 2019 reboot, he has a stronger moral compass than before, and a better relationship with his family, but he's also more subdued and resigned to his situation, and nowhere near as snarky. Then again, he's in a pretty bad shape due to his drug addiction.
* AffectionateNickname: Miggy. Tyler Stone calls him "Mike", but he hates it.
* AffirmativeActionLegacy: Peter Parker is white, but Miguel is half-Mexican, half-Irish. [[spoiler:The Irish part is put under question when his true father is revealed though]].
* AlternateCompanyEquivalent: A retroactive example by 7 years. A rebellious young man who steps into the shoes of a famous animal-themed superhero in a dystopian cyberpunk near future, wearing a cutting-edge costume and embodying an anti-heroic persona. Are we sure we aren't talking about [[WesternAnimation/BatmanBeyond Terry McGinnis]]? Interestingly, Miguel would later get a second costume that functions similarly to Terry's batsuit, but it's white in contrast.
* AlternateSelf: There's Miguel-928, there's the version from ''ComicBook/{{Exiles}}'', the one who [[spoiler:lifted Thor's hammer]], a Spider-Ham version, the ''Timestorm'' version, the one from ''Secret Wars 2099'', and so on and forth...

* AsideGlance: When Lyla goes through the various modes she has installed, she switches to one that looks exactly like Aunt May. Miguel stares right at the reader and then tells Lyla to kill it.

* CassandraTruth: He tried to tell his mother that he's the new Spider-Man, but between his status as TheUnfavorite and his mother's worship of Spider-Man, she just laughs in his face. Hard enough to miss how he ''reveals his talons'' right in front of her.
* ChangingClothesIsAFreeAction: Played with. At first, this was averted, as Miguel had to sneak into places to change into his costume as fast as possible. However, after he got stuck in the past, he wore the costume (sans mask and gloves) all the time and had Lyla project a hologram of ordinary clothing over it. So all he has to do to change is to tell her to drop the projection.
* CharacterDevelopment: He went from a CorruptCorporateExecutive who was full of himself to a man filled with doubt yet has a strong moral compass and seeks to improve the world.
* CharacterTics: Not really seen, but Dana says that Miguel's nostrils flare up whenever he's angry.
* ChestInsignia: A skull-like spider.
* ChildProdigy: Smart enough to be transferred to the Alchemax School for Gifted Youngsters.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: He met Xina when they were both kids in the same school, and they later started dating. In one continuity they even get married.

* DisappointingOlderSibling: In the 2019 reboot, Miguel has this opinion of himself, as he constantly lets his brother down.
* DodgeTheBullet: He can do that thanks to his SuperReflexes.
* DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength: When he first obtains his powers, Miguel tries to save Aaron from falling off the building, but he held on too tight, and along with the talons he ends up crushing Aaron's arm and tearing off his skin. Later, he's absolutely shocked he can lift a car.
* DressedInLayers: Miguel starts wearing his costume beneath his civilian clothes. Subverted in vol.3 where his civies are just a hologram.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: Miguel's reaction when a bunch of civilians accuse him of being a corporate stooge despite fighting against them all the time. That said, they were being manipulated by the Goblin.
* DumbStruck: When asked to speak in [[spoiler:Dana's funeral]], his HeroicBSOD is so heavy that he flees without saying a word.
* DynamicEntry: Miguel starts his first real fight as Spider-Man by jumping off the window (which doesn't ''open'', by the way), and lands on Venture with a kick.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: [[spoiler:After all he's been through, in ''ComicBook/TheAmazingSpiderMan2018'', the main version of Miguel reunites with Tempest and gets to raise his son]].

** Turned on its head in the 2019 reboot. Miguel is in his proper time, but he stands out because he remembers stuff he experienced back in the past. He is much more disoriented.
* FlashSideways: [[spoiler:In the 2019 reboot, Miguel is able to recall things that happened to him in the previous volumes, mainly through hallucinations. These can go from minor things, like the original ending of a movie, to full-blown flashbacks]].
* FlatEarthAtheist: Despite being a superhero in the Marvel universe, he does not believe in God or any other deities. [[spoiler:Which is why Atropos catches him by surprise]].
* FreakLabAccident: Played with. Aaron Delgato caused the accident in an attempt to kill Miguel, but he ended up giving him spider-powers instead.

*** Both of their costumes include red and blue as primary colors but are invoked with a RedOniBlueOni theme. While Peter's costume is mostly red and showcases his extroverted and joking persona, Miguel's costume is mostly blue and it showcases his somber and serious persona.
*** In ''Amazing Fantasy #15'', Peter had a brief BetaOutfit before eventually donning his iconic one, which is still made with cheap material, while Miguel's costume design is the first one he went with and is made of Unstable Molecule Fabric, making it a far more cunning edge.
*** While Peter's costume initially had underarm webs, they're purely a stylistic choice. Miguel's costume includes a small BadassCape made of "Light Byte" that allows him to glide.
*** Peter's costume includes a UtilityBelt while Miguel's costume does not.
*** When in-costume, Peter's Spider-Man persona acts far more confident, comical, and chatty while Miguel's Spider-Man persona acts unsure, serious, and relatively mute.
*** Peter's spider-powers derive from a radioactive spider bite, along with a later MaybeMagicMaybeMundane aspect to their origins while Miguel's spider-powers derive from a futuristic gene-splicing machine that is firmly grounded in sci-fi and later become a case of SelfMadeSuperpowers with his new timeline self.
*** Peter can subconsciously manipulate his body's electron interaction, allowing him to stick to any surface and hold/rip things without grabbing them. * GetBackToTheFuture: Miguel's goal in volumes 2 and 3, but only after he ''fixes'' the future.
* GoingCommando: After Miguel starts wearing his suit under his regular clothes, Lyla comments that he never used to wear any sort of undergarment under his clothes. Not that Miguel doesn't ''own'' any underwear (he has a few shirtless scenes where he's just in his boxers).
* GrandfatherParadox: During ''ComicBook/SuperiorSpiderMan'', Miguel tries to stop Tyler Stone from traveling back in time to ensure the creation of Alchemax, and then has to stop the Superior Spider-Man from killing [[spoiler:his grandfather]] Tiberius.
* GuestStarPartyMember: He briefly fights alongside ComicBook/{{Captain Marvel|MarvelComics}} and Starfox against Thanatos and Maestro.
* HealingFactor: One of his abilities.
* HeWhoFightsMonsters: The reason for his TenMinuteRetirement was that he was getting increasingly brutal over minor crimes. Miguel withdrew from the superhero scene before he could no longer recognize himself.
* HeroWorshipper: Of the original Spider-Man. At his worst, Miguel intended to create "[[CorporateSamurai corporate raiders]]" for Alchemax by gene-splicing humans with animal DNA as an inspiration for Spider-Man's powers. Then he gains spider-powers himself in a FreakLabAccident through a failed assassination attempt by Aaron Delgato and the ball rolls from there.
* HeroicBSOD: He suffers this quite a few times during the story, especially when the plot throws a huge curve-ball at him. The most notable cases are [[spoiler:Dana's death]] and [[spoiler:discovering who his real father is]].
** His shock after [[spoiler:Tempest's "death"]] is expressed much more violently; rather than shut down, he becomes recklessly brutal and blinded with rage during fights, almost committing murder ''several'' times before he realizes what he's doing.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:He went to save Tempest, his son, and the timeline as a whole, despite knowing he would die doing it.]]
* HomeNudist: When he's at home, he's either wearing a very short robe, or briefs. Nothing else.
* HotBlooded: Lampshaded by his brother, as he's half-Mexican, half-Irish (allegedly).
* HypocriticalHumor: He thinks the FutureSlang "flark" sounds ridiculous, despite flinging "Shock" around like nobody's business.
* ImHavingSoulPains: He can feel when the Inheritors kill one of his alternate counterparts.
* IAmNotMyFather: [[spoiler:Either of those]].
* IHaveNoIdeaWhatImDoing: He admits as much in the early issues, as he has no clue how his powers work, no idea how to fight, and no plan beyond "make it out as intact as possible".
* IJustWantToBeNormal: Miguel's ultimate goal. For the longest time, all he really wants is to cure himself and keep living a normal life as a scientist. He drops this after vol.1.
* ILied: He admits that he has no idea what would happen to Daemos if the force field that imprisons him went down.
* ImagineSpot: He occasionally does that while examining different scenarios in his head. He tends to tune out everything else while at it.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler:His death]].
* ImpersonatingAnOfficer: He disguises himself as a Public Eye flyboy to avoid detection and escape Downtown.

** Several characters in 2099 call his Spider-Man persona "S-Man" for short.

* InconsistentColoring: DependingOnTheArtist, Miguel's hair is either red or brown, as his costume is either blue or black. That was dropped in when the series was restarted in 2014, and his hair is now brown, with a dark blue suit.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: After he notes Tempest's fatalistic attitude and sees the medical bills on her table, he flatly asks her how sick she is. She doesn't take kindly to this.
* InsistentTerminology: When someone from an alternate future calls the city "Nueva York", he cuts him off saying it's ''New'' York.
* InsufferableGenius: In the very first issue, before his ego got knocked down a few pegs.

He met his current fiancé by cheating on his girlfriend with his brother's girlfriend, and revels in the privilege of his job without concern about others. * LightningBruiser: Getting spliced with a spider's DNA has made him absurdly strong, fast, and durable.
* LiteralMinded: At one point he says he "needs perspective" to deal with the other executives during a meeting. He ''stands on the table''.
* LogicalWeakness: Since Miguel can see in the dark, lights become a huge problem for him. At one point he's temporarily blinded by fireworks.

** His mother Conchata adores Spider-Man, but has very low opinion of her son.
** Kasey also falls for Spider-Man, but to her, Miguel is a slimeball.
* LukeIAmYourFather: While overhearing a conversation between his mother and [[spoiler:Tyler Stone]], Miguel finds out that [[spoiler:Tyler is his father]]. He proceeds to freak out.
* TheManIsStickingItToTheMan: Miguel fights passionately against the corporate stooges despite being a high-ranking corporate executive himself.
* MesACrowd: After he goes public, there's a whole bunch of people with cheap copies of his suit running around.
* MistakenForBadass: Early in his Spider-Man career, several people take him as a much more serious threat than he is because they have the reputation of his predecessor in mind.
* MistakenIdentity: Several people in the 616 universe confuse Miguel for the original Spider-Man. When a cop notes that it can't be the same guy because the costume is different, another one asks him if he only owns one set of clothes.

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: This is Miguel's reaction when he realises he slit the Specialist's throat by accident.

** [[spoiler:His biological father is Tyler Stone, who Miguel already absolutely loathed for his complete LackOfEmpathy. Tyler does his best to get Miguel under his thumb, and when that failed, get rid of him]].
* AsideGlance: When Lyla goes through the various modes she has installed, she switches to one who looks exactly like Aunt May. Miguel stares right at the reader and then tells Lyla to kill it.
* TheAtoner: An interesting case, as his interpretation of ComesGreatResponsibility is actually "comes great ''guilt''".

* BadassBookworm: Miguel looks and acts like an arrogant scientist most of the time, but he's one of the most dangerous powered individuals of his era.

* CainAndAbel: [[spoiler:His half-brother Kron Stone was a psychotic killer who tried to kill Miguel multiple times; and that was ''before'' he bonded with the Venom Symbiote]].

* CanonImmigrant: Miguel is the first ''2099'' character to make it to make it to Marvel's 616 "main" continuity.

* ChangingClothesIsAFreeAction: Played with. At first, this was averted, as Miguel had to sneak into places to change into his costume as fast as possible. However, after he got stuck in the past, he wore the costume (sans mask and gloves) all the time, and had Lyla project a hologram of ordinary clothing over it. So all he has to do to change is to tell her to drop the projection.

* ComesGreatResponsibility: Defied. According to Miguel, "with great power comes great ''guilt''". Over the course of the series, he keeps asking himself many times why he continues his superhero gig.

* CostumeEvolution: Miguel's second outfit is far more high tech than the first one and it ''shows''. The new one has a black, red and white motif, far more stylised and streamlined design, and TronLines.

* FakeHigh: PlayedForDrama. [[spoiler:Turns out that Tyler Stone never slipped Rapture into Miguel's drink, but a fake drug that mimicked its effects and would get flushed off his system in three days. In other words, the entire plot of the comic could have been avoided if Miguel just waited]].

* TurnOutLikeHisFather: This is both Miguel and Conchata's greatest fear, especially when it turns out [[spoiler:said father is Tyler Stone]]. Miguel puts conscious effort not to let this happen.

* TheUnfavorite: He is this to his mother, as she keeps seeing his father in him the more he grows up. In fact, when Conchata attempts to commit suicide, she sends a message only to Gabriel. Later on their relationship is somewhat improved.

* WallCrawl: Rather than naturally stick to walls like Peter could, Miguel sinks his talons into surfaces.

* WhatHaveIBecome: Miguel is not pleased with his powers. At all. He calls himself a "freak", refers to them as a "condition" more than once and always has the thought of finding a cure at the back of his head. His initial reaction to realising what he's turned into is pure terror.

* ComesGreatResponsibility: His girlfriend Kasey teaches this to him, and in turn he tries to convey the message to Miguel.

* DigitalAvatar: His avatar in the Cybernet, Firelight, looks like Gabriel himself, driving a red sports car (or the 2090's version of it, at any rate) which leaves a flame trail, and has an amorous, skimpy-dressed girl on board. In one the {{Bad Future}}s in vol.3, his avatar changes to look like a more hellish version of ComicBook/GhostRider, minus the motorcycle.

** He also thinks this trope applies to ''other'' people. When he's making a historical documentary for a school, he shows a group of Native American warriors leave their village, and tells the AI to remove the women because they're distracting. He thinks twice of it though and instead moves them so they're visible after the men leave and has them wave, to turn it into an emotional goodbye scene.

* LoveDodecahedron: His original girlfriend Dana fell for Miguel while they were still dating, and even when she and Miguel got engaged, they still had feelings for each other and even shared a kiss. After that, his new girlfriend Kasey fell for Spider-Man (who unbeknownst to her is Miguel), but then she confuses Spider-Man for Gabriel because they have similar voices and S-Man brought up the ComesGreatResponsibility discussion.

* StealthMentor: He acts as this to Miguel when the latter first becomes Spider-Man, by relaying him the ComesGreatResponsibility message and trying to make him realize the full suffering of the people at the hands of the big corporations. He more or less succeeds.

* ComesGreatResponsibility: She is the one who teaches this lesson to Gabriel.
* {{Cyborg}}: After being captured by Stark-Fujikawa, she is cybernetically bonded with the "payback" armor to take revenge on Alchemax. Alchemax removes the armor from her and leaves her in a pretty bad shape. In vol.3, one of the {{Bad Future}}s sees her back in the armor.

* GetawayDriver: She helps Miguel escape the Specialist by hitching a flying bike and tell him to hop on.
* HonorBeforeReason: When Spider-Man saves her from the Specialist, instead of running away like he told her, she hijacks a ride from one of the flyboys and goes to save him.

* OneDegreeOfSeparation: The completely random guy she takes hostage is her boyfriend's brother. This is how the "hostage situation" is dissolved; the two of them immediately drop the aggressive attitude towards each other.
* PowerHigh: The Payback armour makes her extremely reckless and highly aggressive, and she's enjoying every second of it.

* MesACrowd: In her brief appearance in vol.3, she uses holograms to create copies of herself and make her enemies think they're fighting an army.

* DarkChick: The only woman among the Sinister Six. [[spoiler:As far as they knew, that is]].

* BladeOnAStick: THE blade on a stick. He has the freaking UsefulNotes/HolyLance.
