-->"He who laughs last, laughs best, right?"
--> Voiced by: Creator/TetsuyaKakihara

The upbeat, determined hero of the game. Red Savarin is a Hunter, which is short for "bounty hunter" but probably better described as "the guy who does odd jobs". His robo, [=DAHAK=], is the main source of income for both himself and his [[HappilyAdopted adopted]] little sister, Chocolat Gelato. He has a tendency to [[OpenMouthInsertFoot say things that get him in trouble]] or [[InnocentlyInsensitive accidentally offend others]], but he's still a good guy at heart. He's a mutt. [[spoiler:On the [[http://solatorobo.com/ official website]], the image showing his species resembles an Akita Inu, but since the text says "mutt" and his mother is Merveille genetically, he could be some kind of Collie mix.]]

----
%% * AdventurerOutfit
* ArmorPiercingSlap: Ends up on the receiving end of these from Elh, twice. Once after a ShowerOfAwkward, and once [[spoiler:for ignoring Elh in favor of his fangirl posse]] in the Prairie Kingdom Cup [=DLC=] quest.
* ArtificialHuman: [[spoiler:Or artificial ''hybrid'' in his case -- Red was among the hybrids who were created in a lab by Merveille & Baion rather than being born naturally.]]
* AttackAttackAttack: Depending on how you play, Red can certainly be this (and it's probably pretty close to his official characterization).
* BadassAdorable: Alman and even Opéra both refer to him as "dumpling" on occasion.
* BelligerentSexualTension: At some points with Elh. Usually they're good about working together without problems, but if he does something particularly stupid he'll certainly hear about it.
* {{BFS}}: Red's stun gun has a ''really big bayonet'' that's longer than the gun itself and ''taller than he is'', and yet he only uses it as a stun gun outside his robot.
* BigScrewedUpFamily: [[spoiler:His father's the BigBad, his mother was once allied with a corrupt military force that tried to kill him on multiple occasions, and he has six brothers and sisters, four of which also tried to kill him with one of them being responsible for wiping his memory, ensuring that he can't remember anything past the previous 7 years.]]
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:When the Order is given. It causes him to kill Nero and Blanck and attempt to strangle Elh before getting a hold of himself.]]
* BrotherSisterTeam: With Chocolat, before Elh shows up.
* CainAndAbel: [[spoiler:He's the Abel to Nero and Blanck's Cain. In an ironic sense, Red is the one to land the killing blow [[BrainwashedAndCrazy (though not by choice)]].]]
* CameBackStrong: [[spoiler:He says he feels better than ever after his brush with death. It eventually results in him being able to Trance and become extra-powerful when he feels the need to protect someone.]]
* CatchPhrase: "When I get down to work, there's just no stopping me!"
* ChickMagnet: He gets a few female admirers throughout the game, from [[{{Fangirl}} Toffee]] to Princess Therria. Unfortunately for them, [[ChasteHero Red's too dense to even tell he's being hit on]].
* ColorCharacter: ''Red'' Savarin. In case you can't tell, he's the HotBlooded hero in the red AdventurerOutfit.
* ColourfulThemeNaming
* CombiningMecha: [[spoiler:Septentrion, combining Red's Dahak, Nero's Zairita, and Blanck's Srvara.]]
* ConscienceMakesYouGoBack: When Elh is [[HostageForMacGuffin captured by the Kurvaz]] after [[spoiler:trying to sacrifice him in the Rite of Forfeit]], Red seriously considers [[BystanderSyndrome leaving and declaring the whole issue someone else's problem]]. Chocolat agrees with him initially, but it's all a ploy to get him to realize that they should turn around and go rescue Elh.
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: When one of the first few things Red does is bad mouth enemy soldiers and go immediately for the most destructive option, you know you're not going to be playing as Waffle 2.0.
* {{Determinator}}: A recurring characteristic of Red's is his willingness to see things through to the end, no matter what.
* EdibleThemeNaming: A savarin is a type of rum-filled pastry.
* EleventhHourSuperpower: Twice:
** Red's Trance, the first time he uses it.
** [[spoiler:The Dahak's ultimate version: the Septentrion, which uses the combined power of Nero, Blanck, Red, and Tartaros.]]
* {{Fanservice}}: His Trance again. There's no real ''reason'' for him to lose his shirt like that...
* FemaleFelineMaleMutt: Plays it straight, being a rather macho dog.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: The foolish one with Chocolat keeping him in line.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Choleric.
* FunetikAksent: Red's got this habit of speakin' with the Gs missin' off the ends of his words. It seems to serve no purpose other than to give him a unique way of speakin' (and possibly makin' him look [[EverythingIsBigInTexas a little bit denser]]). [[spoiler: The accent doesn't even make ''sense'', as neither his adopted sister, whom he has lived with for nine years, nor his biological parents (who he likely learned to talk from) speak with any identifiable accent.]]
* FurryReminder: Red spends a great deal of time chewing on a StockFemurBone, and a comic shows him [[http://www.cc2.co.jp/solarobo/4koma/img/38.gif chasing a disc when Elh throws it]].
* GogglesDoNothing: He has goggles and might could use them, but is actually never seen wearing them.
* GoofyPrintUnderwear: Red is embarrassed that Chocolat is showing off the Asmodeus while his boxers are hanging out in a 4koma comic.
* HappilyAdopted: Brother-sister example in Red and Chocolat. Considering she's only 13, he may actually have legal custody of her, despite the fact that [[CloserToEarth she deals with day-to-day issues like money]] much better than he does.
** HeartwarmingOrphan: Red and Chocolat are what happens when {{Heartwarming Orphan}}s grow up and [[HappilyAdopted adopt each other]].
* HenshinHero: [[spoiler:Red's Trance. In fact, ''trance'' may actually be a mis-transliteration of ''trans''form, since both would be spelled ''toransu'' in Japanese.]]
* HeroicBSOD: After [[spoiler:learning he's a Hybrid, Red goes into a bit of a funk angsting over the fact that the two Hybrids he just met are {{Omnicidal Maniac}}s and he just might share their AxCrazy inclinations]]. Chocolat snaps him out of it by dragging him to Basset to play with the orphans and remind him [[UpbringingMakesTheHero that he's still the same good person she grew up with]].
* HeroicLineage: [[spoiler:He saves the Shephard Republic from destruction just like his ancestor [[VideoGame/FugaMelodiesOfSteel Socks]] helped do a millenium ago.]]
* HonorBeforeReason: Red usually acts before he thinks.
* HotBlooded: Elh outright calls Red 'hot-headed' during the post [[spoiler:Part 2]] credits sequence. He only solves ''one'' of the three riddles for the [[spoiler:Flute]], settling the first two with violence. Frequently charges in without thinking, and says some pretty cheesy things with a straight face.
* HumanityEnsues: [[spoiler:Every time he Trances.]]
* HybridAllAlong: [[spoiler:Red is unaware that he's not an ordinary caninu until he transforms into a human while fighting the DiscOneFinalBoss. It's only in the second half that he learns that he's a genetically-engineered HalfHumanHybrid.]]
* IconicSequelCharacter: Though Waffle still has his fans, it's more obvious that Red has a lot more going for him, having a much stronger personality [[spoiler:and his nature as a Hybrid bringing a whole new layer of implications to the series' overall lore. This extends beyond ''Solatorobo'' too, as he was given multiple {{Call Forward}}s along side one of his ancestors being playable in ''Fuga'', while "Red Data Children" focusing on his childhood life and the relationship he had with his siblings. With his BigBrotherMentor Carmine implied to have a stake in ''Fuga'''s storyline thanks to the manga adaptation, it's pretty much clear that legal issues with Bandai Namco aside, Red has had a massive impact on ''Little Tail Bronx'' despite only appearing in one game.]]
* IdiotHero: Red, if you didn't notice before. Although he's a more or less downplayed example; Red is fairly smart and less idiotic than most examples of this trope, but his impulsiveness and brashness more often than not gets him into trouble.
* IGaveMyWord: For all his hot-headed foolishness, Red does deliver on his promises.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Red, to go along with his [[HotBlooded other]] [[IdiotHero idiocies]]. Chocolat and Elh get on to him for it, claiming he doesn't understand girls' feelings and is "an idiot with a bad mouth", respectively.
* InterspeciesRomance: [[ShipTease Teased]] with Elh.
* ItAmusedMe:
** Red's reason for wanting to force Elh to [[spoiler:wear the Queen of the Race outfit. Fail to beat the costume time once, and Red will nearly forget about making the girls promise to wear it. Elh calls him on it, and he admits it's not really about the costume at all: he just wants to see her]] "get all embarrassed"!
** He also seems to quite enjoy dragging poor Elh back to Vizsla [[WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes with all the bugs.]] Considering he grew up constantly teasing his sister, that's probably [[{{Tsundere}} how he shows affection]].
* IWasJustPassingThrough: In the [[spoiler:opening of Part 2]], Chocolat asks Red if he misses Elh. His emphatic response is that ''no'', he just misses the billion rings' worth of work he was promised! Of course no one actually buys it, but Chocolat drops the subject pretty quick anyway.
* InnocentBlueEyes: Director Frasier from the orphanage in Basset comments how Red's eyes tell her he's a good person.
* KleptomaniacHero: Red barges into people's houses and opens their chests, taking whatever happens to be inside. Including at the orphanage.
** KleptomaniacHeroFoundUnderwear: Searching Vanille's bed in her house will result in Red finding some underwear. Chocolat scolds him not to stare.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: The reason Red can't remember anything before age nine is [[spoiler:Merveille and Baion's MemoryWipingCrew got to him before he could escape.]]
* MasterOfUnlocking: Red manages to pick a lock using a wire (yes, just a wire) when captured by Gren in Shetland.
* TheMcCoy: To Chocolat's Kirk and Elh's Spock.
* MeaningfulName:
** Red [[spoiler:is the odd sibling out and the one lacking the "perfection" given to Nero and Blanck,]] just like red the color, which in Yin-Yang symbolizes the absence of both. Additionally, Red's mecha, [=DAHAK=] is named after Azi Dahaka, a Sumerian demon.
* MenDontCry: Red seems to hold this view, as after saving Elh from some bugs and getting told to stay away, he teasingly asks "Eyes red from crying?" [[spoiler:Of course, by that point everyone knew Elh's a girl and Red was likely just being a bit of a jerk.]] Red himself also lacks any sort of crying sprite.
* MiniMecha: Pilots the [=DAHAK-AZI03=] for much of the game, gameplay surrounds fighting in it and customizing its stats. [[spoiler:Following its destruction early on in the second half, it gets replaced with the DAHAK Mk. II, which is fundamentally the same, but has a StanceSystem that changes up the abilities it takes on.]]
* MomentKiller: To Dade and Vanille. Hey, he wanted his money for his troubles.
* NamedWeapons: His mech is named [=DAHAK-AZ103=].
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: When Red tries to stop a gang of sky pirates stealing a warehouse in a sidequest (not the cargo of a warehouse but ''literally the entire building''), he completely forgets that destroying the air ship using [[StuffBlowingUp explosives would be counter productive.]]
* OralFixation: Red is always holding a bone between his teeth.
* PottyFailure: He suffered from this as a child, at one point using the DAHAK to toss his bed ''and his clothes'' into a nearby lake just to cover up his accident.
* {{Pride}}: After the second credits, Elh claims that Red has a huge ego and [[CannotSpitItOut refuses to tell him how important their adventures together have been]] to avoid it [[AcquiredSituationalNarcissism getting any bigger]].
* {{Protectorate}}: [[spoiler:The key to Red's ability to Trance lies with his desire to protect someone or something at all costs and being unable to do it normally]].
* RedEyesTakeWarning: [[spoiler:Complete with an scary SlasherSmile when Red receives the Order.]]
* RescueRomance: DoubleSubverted. Red saved an unconscious Elh from UsefulNotes/TheHindenburg, but their ShipTease doesn't pick up until quite a bit later and that rescue was never mentioned.
* TheReveal: [[spoiler:Red is a hybrid created by Merveille Million and Baion.]]
* SecularHero: While the Shephard Republic is home to both the Anju and Oshilasama religions, and Elh even mentions following something similar, as Oshilasama teaches how to control the [[{{Mana}} Nono]] essential to barrier spells, Red just dismisses it all as "superstitious nonsense". Surprisingly, Elh has [[MegatonPunch no]] [[ArmorPiercingSlap reaction]] to his disrespect.
* ShipTease: With Elh.
* SlasherSmile: He gets an absolutely crazy one [[spoiler:when The Order is given. His usual upbeat, happy-yet-stubborn demeanor means it's ''even creepier''.]]
* SlipknotPonytail: Red wears this [[spoiler:when he's in a Trance.]]
* StockFemurBone: The one Red holds between his teeth.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: [[spoiler:During his Trance]].
* SuperpoweredEvilSide: [[spoiler:For all intents and purposes, this is what Baion envisioned Red's Trance form as. He's much stronger, can fly, and has access to KiManipulation, but (according to the 4koma at least), is a lot more fight happy than usual. "Red Data Children" leans into this, as Red nearly went insane as a child just from being in his Trance, and it was one of the major reasons why Rose and Carmine had to wipe his memory.]]
* ThreeAmigos: With Chocolat and Elh, by the end of the story. [[spoiler:Subverted in that both sidekicks are female.]]
* TransformingMecha: [=DAHAK=] can use "Mode Change" from his battle forms to an anchor-shooting mecha and a flight mecha. There are also variations of his standard fighting mecha available after the half way point.
** And improved versions of ''those'' are available in NewGamePlus mode, once you reach the Duel Ship. They're not cheap though!
* TronLines: While it may be difficult or nearly impossible to see in-game, this [[http://www.giantbomb.com/solatorobo-red-the-hunter/61-30423/concept-art/52-418825/5/51-1759781/ spoilerific piece of concept art]] reveals that Red's [[spoiler:Dahak-fused Trance form]] has them.
* UnexplainedRecovery: [[spoiler:Red survives the HumanSacrifice needed for the Poem of Awakening. He just appears afterwards with no explanation - lucky thing he didn't fall off the ship before coming back, though, since Elh just left his body lying out there in the wind...]]
** [[spoiler:The implication is that he survived it because he's [[HalfHumanHybrid not a]] [[ArtificialHuman normal being]] in the slightest.]]
* WalkingShirtlessScene: Whenever he goes into Trance. [[spoiler:It is never explained why this happens, or why he loses his trademark bone and hat]].
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer:
** Dahak is capable of lifting and tossing things. Naturally, this applies to ''each and every enemy'' you encounter, though at least it varies between picking up the enemy itself and picking up the enemy's projectiles to return them. [[spoiler:At least until Red learns to control his Trance, in which case KiManipulation become a viable option.]]
** Likewise, Red isn't very good at solving riddles. So, when [[spoiler:the guardians of the flute]] ask him riddles, he just jumps right in and attacks them instead.
* WreckedWeapon: [[spoiler:His [=DAHAK-AZI03=] gets destroyed during his first confrontation with Nero and Blanc. Fortunately, this doesn't stick as he soon upgrades to the DAHAK Mk. II.]]
* WritingAroundTrademarks: [[spoiler: He makes a cameo appearance in ''Fuga'''s GoldenEnding, but like Baion, [=CyberConnect2=] was unable to explicitly acknowledge his existence thanks to Bandai Namco's partial ownership interfering. The most you'll see of him in that game is an obscured close-up of his Trance form and nothing else.]]
* XMarksTheHero: He appears to have this underneath his right eye in most in-game face portraits, made difficult to clearly distinguish due to his bangs. However, it's one long horizontal scar across his nose with smaller tears crossing it vertically.
* YearsTooEarly: Red tells a rookie he's a hundred years too soon to hope to win against him.
* YouAreNumberSix: [[spoiler:He is codified as Hybrid No. 3. Not that this means anything to him.]]

[[folder:Chocolat Gelato]]
!!Chocolat Gelato
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/solatorobo_chocolatgelatoTVT_3450.jpg]]
-->"I know you can handle it, Red!"
--> Voiced by: Creator/KanaAsumi

Red's little sister. She [[WrenchWench loves all things mechanical]], and so spends a lot of time fixing up [=DAHAK=] or the Asmodeus, their home airship.

She's a Caninu, Pomeranian to be exact, but her [[HumanoidFemaleAnimal short muzzle]] tends to confuse players (surprisingly, no one in game makes any mention of it).

----
* AcePilot: At just 13 years old, she does advanced piloting manoeuvers with a huge domestic airship.
* BareYourMidriff: The [[FanService Queen of the Race]] photo shows Chocolat and Elh in a cheerleader outfit. Chocolat is enthusiastic, but Elh is less than amused by the prospect.
* BlushSticker: Chocolat's usual look, though she switches to a cheek-only LuminescentBlush for the [[{{Fanservice}} Queen of the Race photo]].
* BrotherSisterTeam: With Red, before Elh shows up.
* CatSmile: She does it the most, despite being a Caninu.
* CuteLittleFangs
* DeadpanSnarker: It can't be helped when she has to deal with some of Red's antics.
* EdibleThemeNaming
* {{Fanservice}}: Downloadable quest #5. Chocolat is enthusiastic about wearing a "Queen of the Race" outfit but doesn't want to be the only one, so she tries to drag Elh into it; Red manages to goad Elh into promising to wear it if he manages to come in first place and break the track record at the Pharaoh Air Robo GP Cup by claiming the poor Felineko lacks the confidence to pull it off. By accomplishing both things, you receive a special photograph showing Elh and Chocolat in the aforementioned outfit, which makes them look like cheerleaders, complete with BareYourMidriff, ModestyShorts, and ExposedAnimalBellybutton.
* FemaleFelineMaleMutt: Subverts it, though you'd be forgiven for confusing her for a Felineko and thinking she played it straight.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: The responsible one looking after her older brother Red.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Sanguine.
* GogglesDoNothing: She flies the Asmodeus from inside a protected cockpit and never ventures outside, so she has no need of her goggles (which she never wears, either).
* HappilyAdopted: Brother-sister example in Red and Chocolat. Considering she's only 13, he may actually have legal custody of her, despite the fact that [[CloserToEarth she deals with day-to-day issues like money]] much better than he does.
* HeartwarmingOrphan: Red and Chocolat are what happens when {{Heartwarming Orphan}}s grow up and [[HappilyAdopted adopt each other]].
* ImprobablePilotingSkills: For a 13 year-old, Chocolat pilots the Asmodeus exceptionally. Scratch that, Chocolat pilots the Asmodeus exceptionally, ''period''.
* TheKirk: To Red's [=McCoy=] and Elh's Spock.
* LeaveTheTwoLovebirdsAlone: To Cyan, Princess Theria, [[spoiler:and Opéra, when Red and Elh make up after he got fangirled to death by Theria, Alicia, and Toffee]] after winning the Prairie Kingdom Cup.
* LongHairIsFeminine: Chocolat's hair reaches down to her tail, while her counterpart's is barely shoulder-length.
* MissionControl: She serves this purpose in the game, remaining on the ship and communicating with Red while he explores.
* PunnyName: ''Chocolat Gelato''.
* TeenGenius: Chocolat Gelato. 13 years old and an engineer that not only manages to pilot her own home airship, but also manages the financial issues between her and her brother.
* TeensAreShort: She's 13 and only 120cm/3'11". You ''could'' justify this as her just being a Pomeranian, except for the fact that Russian blue cat Opéra is 170cm/5'7" and should realistically be about the same size if breed determines height.
* ThreeAmigos: With Red and Elh, by the end of the story, though subverted in that both sidekicks are female.
* ThroughAFaceFullOfFur: Her blush may as well be facial fur markings.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The girly-girl counterpoint to Elh, once everyone learns she's female.
* VoiceWithAnInternetConnection: Chocolat spends most of her time in the Asmodeus, relaying maps and critical information to Red. She does venture out on occasion, but very, very rarely.
* WithAFriendAndAStranger: The "Friend" of the group.
* WrenchWench

[[folder:Elh Melizée]]
!!Elh Melizée
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/solatorobo_elhmelizeeTVT_2670.jpg]]
-->"I want to make a contract with you."
--> Voiced by: Creator/SaoriGoto

A young Felineko who was rescued from the Hindenburg by Red, and offers him an exorbitant amount of money in exchange for helping with an ancient ritual to [[SealedEvilInACan seal the monster Lares]]. Elh is blunt, taciturn, private...and [[EveryoneCanSeeIt not-so-secretly]] falling for Red. She's an American Shorthair, apparently.

----
* AngerBornOfWorry: After Red takes on Nero and Blanck for the first time, he barely escapes with his life. Once he wakes up and everyone is sure he's okay, Elh socks him a few times for being such an idiot. [[SlapSlapKiss Then they comment on how it's good to see each other again after several months.]]
* ArmorPiercingSlap: To Red, twice. Once after a ShowerOfAwkward, and once [[spoiler:for ignoring her in favor of his fangirl posse]] in the Prairie Kingdom Cup [=DLC=] quest.
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler:After trying to take Red's life, she spends a good portion of the second part of the game angsting about it, even to the point of telling Red it would have been okay if he'd killed her while he was BrainwashedAndCrazy.]]
* AwesomeButImpractical: Blocking a MacrossMissileMassacre? Awesome. Fainting when Red's not around to protect you? Not so awesome.
* BareYourMidriff: The [[FanService Queen of the Race]] photo shows Chocolat and Elh in cheerleader outfits. Chocolat is enthusiastic, but Elh is less than amused by the prospect.
* BarrierWarrior
* BelligerentSexualTension: At some points with Red. Usually they're good about working together without problems, but if he does something particularly stupid he'll certainly hear about it.
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Red. While they clash often until their CharacterDevelopment comes along, they practically have the same backstory and they're more alike than Elh is willing to admit at first.
* {{Bokukko}}: Uses these pronouns in the Japanese script, confusing Red and Chocolat about her gender.
* CanNotSpitItOut: When it comes to her feelings for Red. So, '''so''' much.
** There's an interesting variant as well when it comes to [[spoiler:the Rite of Forfeit, which she believes she must perform to save the world. However, knowing that it would kill Red in the process, she can't recite the chant no matter how hard she tries.]]
* CastFromHitPoints: Using a large barrier spell leaves Elh exhausted to the point of collapse.
* CatsAreMagic: Elh's [[{{Mana}} Nono]] also reacts to certain artifacts with [[PowerGlows glowing]] FacialMarkings and allows use of a [[BarrierWarrior barrier spell]].
* CatSmile: Does one once or twice. Being a Felineko, this is kind of a given, though not all of Elh's smiles are {{Cat Smile}}s.
* CerebusRetcon: Elh's fear of bugs is generally played as a small gag now and then whenever Red visits Vizulla. [[spoiler:"Ragdoll Elegy" reveals that Elh's last memory of her parents after they were burned alive was a swarm of bugs covering their corpes, suddenly bringing new context to her phobia.]]
* ConflictingLoyalty: [[spoiler:Elh choosing between the loyalty to her duty to seal Lares (which requires the sacrifice of Red) and her loyalty to her friend.]]
* CuteLittleFangs: Part of her design.
* EekAMouse: Has a fear of bugs. Elh often tells Red to hurry up and squish the bugs in Visla, and Red has to save Elh from bugs twice, once in the main story and again in a sidequest. This functions as a ProtectionMission, with a glowing circle around Elh marking the line you can't allow bugs to cross (this includes if you accidentally throw a bug across the line, because apparently even a dead bug is creepy).
* EmotionlessGirl: When her (infrequent) emotional outbursts aren't being played for laughs. Later justified by the fact that [[spoiler:she's been alive for well over 300 years]]. She'll admit late in the game that spending time with Red has reminded her of what happiness feels like.
* {{Expy}}: Of C.C. from ''Anime/CodeGeass'', right up to [[spoiler:being immortal, extremely tacit girls who form "contracts" with their respective love interests and who secretly harbor death wishes]]. Mostly likely unintentionally, however.
* FacialMarkings: Grey cheek stripes.
* {{Fanservice}}: Downloadable quest #5. Red makes a not-very-willing Elh promise to wear a "queen of the race" outfit if he manages to come in first place and break the track record at the Pharaoh Air Robo GP Cup. By accomplishing both things, you receive a special photograph showing Elh and Chocolat in the aforementioned outfit, which makes them look like cheerleaders, complete with BareYourMidriff, ModestyShorts, and ExposedAnimalBellybutton.
* FemaleFelineMaleMutt: Played with, as she's ''female'' but not ''feminine'' in the slightest.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Melancholic.
* GenderReveal: She's a girl. This was a surprise to Red and Chocolat, although why they'd mistake her for a boy is more clear to a Japanese audience.
* GreenEyedMonster: In the Prairie Kingdom Cup, Elh gets a case of this when [[spoiler:Red gets too much attention from Princess Theria, Alicia, and Toffee.]]
* HeWillComeForMe: Says the inverted variant when the Kurvaz capture her to use as bait to make Red [[HostageForMacGuffin turn over the medalion]]. Elh says that won't work because [[spoiler:she betrayed him, tried to sacrifice him in the Rite of Forfeit, and]] he won't come.
* HiddenDepths: In Samoyede, Elh reveals that she knows a little about flowers, despite not being the girlish type; [[IWasJustPassingThrough she claims it's only because they grew in her home village]]. Red is a little bit surprised.
* InterspeciesRomance: [[ShipTease Teased]] with Red.
* LadyLooksLikeADude: Elh wears [[WholesomeCrossDresser boys' clothing]] and uses [[{{Bokukko}} masculine pronouns]] in the Japanese version, completely confusing Red and Chocolat. [[spoiler:Red later uses this fact to their advantage, though, to sneak her into an all-boys magic school. Even the guard insists that, upon closer inspection, "he couldn't possibly be a girl." Elh isn't exactly too happy about this, though.]]
* LastOfHerKind: [[spoiler:She's one of the last two Paladins]] along with Béluga, due to [[spoiler:Baion burning their home Ragdoll to the ground.]]
* LeaveTheTwoLovebirdsAlone: To Red, when [[spoiler:Béluga brings Merveille a hologram of flowers.]]
* TheLoad: In a quest after the end of the game, Red accuses Elh of eating too many free meals. When Elh turns to Chocolat for help, she agrees with her brother and says everyone on the Asmodeus has to do their share of work.
* LuminescentBlush: Elh normally sports the "red lines across the nose" variant, but trades them for a BlushSticker in the [[{{Fanservice}} Queen of the Race photo]], and turns entirely red during the ShowerOfAwkward.
* MegatonPunch: To Red, after the second ShowerOfAwkward scene.
* ModestyTowel: Worn by Elh during the ShowerOfAwkward scenes.
* MysteriousWaif: Complete with MacGuffin amulet and [[spoiler:DoomedHometown]].
* NoSocialSkills: Or at least very few. Elh's just a rather private person like that.
* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: After Red discovers that Elh is [[WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes deathly afraid of bugs]] and ScreamsLikeALittleGirl at the sight of them, he makes it a point to bring it up when possible. Elh even mentions not being able to live it down.
* OrphansPlotTrinket: Invoked to get into the canals in Spinon, telling the worker that they dropped a pendant from Elh's dead mother in there. Of course, as soon as the worker opens the sewers for them, [[MoodSwinger the waterworks immediately stop and it's back to business as usual]], causing Red to comment on how creepy it is for someone to be able to turn their emotions on and off like that.
** [[spoiler:The actual pendant that Red found on the Hindenburg also counts, as it's one of the last Paladin relics.]]
* PowerStrainBlackout: The first use of a large barrier just leaves Elh extremely fatigued and too weak to stand; the second results in actual fainting.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: [[spoiler:Being a Paladin and everything, Elh is actually 300 years old]].
* ReiAyanamiExpy: Downplayed. She's a reserved, emotionally detached MysteriousWaif associated with the color purple and serves the role as the protagonist's love interest, [[spoiler:but she has no association with the story's Gendo {{Expy}}. It's also Red whose backstory is closer to Rei's; Elh's is simply so vaguely and undisclosed that it's impossible to say whether she fills that criteria.]]
* RescueRomance: DoubleSubverted. Red saved an unconscious Elh from "The Hindenburg", but their ShipTease doesn't pick up until quite a bit later and that rescue was never mentioned.
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: When confronted with [[WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes bugs]]. Of course, given that she ''is'' a girl, it's more understandable, but Red didn't know that at the time. And again when [[spoiler:Bruno attempts to sacrifice Red in the Rite of Forfeit]].
* ShipTease: With Red.
* ShowerOfAwkward: Done ''twice''. {{Modesty Towel}}s prevented those moments from being even more awkward.
* TheSpock: To Red's [=McCoy=] and Chocolat's Kirk.
* TheStoic: Elh's usual facial expression is that of slight vacancy, and very few things can get a rise out of her, sometimes to the point of her being TheComicallySerious.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Elh, normally calm and distant, occasionally shows a softer side ([[DefrostingIceQueen it gets shown more often as the story progresses]]).
** NotSoStoic: Also a freaked-out side, if [[WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes bugs]] are involved.
** {{Tsundere}}: Red is surprisingly good at bringing out Elh's [[DeadpanSnarker sarcastic]], [[ArmorPiercingSlap violent]] [[MegatonPunch side]] as well.
* TenderTears: Elh apparently does not have a problem with crying, possessing at least two separate sprites with small droplets at the eye corners and displaying them without shame. The second opening animation even includes a SparklingStreamOfTears.
* ThatCameOutWrong: Inside Lares, there's a fork in the road. Red and [[spoiler:Béluga]] [[LetsSplitUpGang decide to split up]], and you're forced to choose if Elh should stay with you or take the other path. Choose to go alone, and Elh will ''insist'' on going with you - but only because it's safer [[spoiler:to separate the Paladins]], of course!
-->"Hey! Don't get the wrong idea! I can see you getting it!"
* ThatMakesMeFeelAngry: Elh, who is not very good at dealing with emotions, occasionally says things like "I feel happy" or "I feel disappointed." This is usually only in cases of positive or mild emotions, however; extreme anger [[ArmorPiercingSlap doesn't]] [[MegatonPunch need]] [[SugarAndIcePersonality words]].
* ThreeAmigos: With Red and Chocolat, by the end of the story. [[spoiler:Subverted in that both sidekicks are female.]]
* ThroughAFaceFullOfFur: When she blushes.
* VagueAge: [[AllThereInTheManual Officially]] listed as "looks about 14". [[spoiler:She's really more about '''3'''14.]]
* WeAreAsMayFlies: Elh gives a speech to Raisin about how thankful he should be that he and Cerise were lucky enough to be born in the same time and how they should fight for their love, class differences or not, because life is so short.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Elh has a phobia of bugs. This becomes a problem in Visla, which is crawling with them.
* WholesomeCrossdresser: She prefers wearing boy's clothes. Yes, that skirt over pants look is for ''boys''. Then Elh gets mad at Red when he uses this fact to their advantage to [[spoiler:sneak her into an all-boys magic school. He insists she "couldn't be any more of a guy", and she mutters to him that she's going to have some words for him later.]]
* WithAFriendAndAStranger: The Stranger of the group.
* WhoWantsToLiveForever: [[spoiler:Elh does a bit of angsting about losing the people she loves as they grow old while she stays the same, and she and Béluga admit that their lives feel more meaningful after losing their immortality.]].

-->"Let's make a deal."
--> Voiced by: Shigenori Souya

The leader of the Kurvaz, currently the largest Hunter Guild in Shepherd. A rather arrogant sort whose newest ambition is to TakeOverTheWorld without losing his HundredPercentHeroismRating.

----
* AmbitionIsEvil: He's dead set on awakening Lares to use its power, and Opera mentions at the end that he was a shell of his former self once he learned of the Titano-Machina.
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: Heavily subverted, as he has no mech of his own and prefers to bully others into doing his bidding rather than fight any battles himself. The only time this gets played straight is during the final chapter [[spoiler:of Part I]], and even then it was after he got forcibly absorbed by Lares itself and was denounced by Opéra and the other Kurvaz members.
* BeardOfEvil: Technically it's just more of his fur, but is styled like a beard on a human would be.
* BigBad: His chase after the medallion to awaken Lares is the major conflict of the game. [[spoiler:[[DiscOneFinalBoss At first.]]]]
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: He's the leader of the Kurvaz and wants to TakeOverTheWorld.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: He's constantly built up as Red's ultimate enemy, and the game will make you think that throughout the adventure. [[spoiler:Once taken out, Bruno then becomes a footnote in the story as Baion proves that things can (and will) get worse]].
* EvilIsNotAToy: Bruno follows the same motivation as Fool from ''VideoGame/TailConcerto'': resurrect an ancient evil power to control. [[spoiler:He goes down when it goes back to rest.]]
* EvilLaugh: Bruno has two varieties.
* ForTheEvulz: [[CardCarryingVillain For all the times he goaded the heroes with his evil plans]], Bruno's reason for wanting to TakeOverTheWorld isn't fully explored, with him seemingly desiring power for the sake of it.
* ForeignCultureFetish: The side story "Bitter Rain" reveals that he is ''heavily'' into Nippon culture, even warning Québec to not get his Kimono dirty back when they were alies. This can also be seen with the big influence in Nippon design on the Golden Roar and Royal Envy.
* HowDoIShotWeb: [[spoiler:The first thing he ponders upon entering Lares is how to control the beast. He quickly gets transformed by it before he even finds out, and is killed by Red shortly after.]]
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:After getting absorbed by Lares upon his defeat]].
* LargeAndInCharge: Tallest of all the characters.
* LoopholeAbuse: His [[AllThereInTheManual profile]] states that he never ''outright'' breaks the law but cleverly finds ways to weasel around things that would otherwise inhibit him without losing his [[VillainWithGoodPublicity public image]].
* ObviouslyEvil: Whenever his talking portrait gets angry.
* OneWingedAngel: The final boss battle with him.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: One of the most evil characters, and of course he has red eyes.
* RedOniBlueOni: The red to Baion's blue.
* SpikesOfVillainy: His hair and fur is quite spiky.
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: Most of the general public believes Bruno and the Kurvaz are stand-up guys and have no idea he wants to TakeOverTheWorld. [[spoiler:Even after Bruno's death, many of the Kurvaz underlings still believe he embodied the spirit of a true Hunter and find Opéra to be a shallow imitator at best, despite the fact that she's turned the Guild around and is now working to ''save'' the world.]]

The leader of the Kurvaz special ops unit. A little bit snotty but no less dangerous, she feels indebted to Bruno and works for him despite his increasingly aggressive orders. She's a Russian Blue.

----
* BerserkButton: Opéra hates to be called old.
* BoobsOfSteel: Though Opéra's physical strength is never shown, she's certainly a capable mech pilot in battle.
* {{Claustrophobia}}: In a downloadable quest, it is revealed that she suffers from this.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: She does some nasty stuff, including (for all intents and purposes) holding a mayor's son hostage, but she completely disapproves of bombing the orphanage in Basset.
* FacialMarkings: Red cheek stripes.
* FallenPrincess: A DLC quest reveals that [[spoiler:she was the daughter of a wealthy couple, but they died in an accident ten years ago and the fortune they left their daughter was seized from her; the only things she has left are two of her servants, Gren and Calua. Bruno took her in, raised her, and eventually gave her a job working for him, resulting in her loyal gratitude.]]
* FemmeFatalons: Hers are somehow visible through her gloves. A [[http://www.cc2.co.jp/solarobo/4koma/img/28.gif 4koma comic]] pokes fun at her long nails.
* FormFittingWardrobe
* FunetikAksent: Conspicuously ''absent''. While her [[AllThereInTheManual official profile]] claims she speaks with an "imperious drawl", her speech is rendered no differently than any other character.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:When Bruno dies at the end of Part 1, she and her subordinates go through this. It happens rather quickly, given that they were just PunchClockVillains who were JustFollowingOrders, with no actual resentment towards Red and his team.]]
* HighCollarOfDoom: It's part of her outfit.
* JustFollowingOrders: She really doesn't have much of a grudge against Red at all, even after losing to him, but fights him anyway because he's interfering with Bruno's plans.
* LadyOfWar: She's delicate and graceful woman with a lot of firepower behind her via her mech.
* MeaningfulName: Her mecha is named for a chaotic Babylonian sea goddess which gave birth to monsters. The mecha is capable of spawning small drones which explode.
* MiniMecha: Pilots one.
* MyMasterRightOrWrong: While not as interested in trying to TakeOverTheWorld as Bruno, she feels indebted to him for things he did in the past and is willing to go along with his antagonistic ways.
* NamedWeapons: Her mech is named Tiamat.
* NoblewomansLaugh: Just look at her character image on the right.
* PaperFanOfDoom: Opéra is frequently carrying a fan with the Kurvaz/Kuvasz Guild logo visible when unfolded, though she rarely (if ever) actually strikes anyone with the fan itself.
* {{Pun}}: One of Opéra's [[VoiceGrunting voice clips]] is a fairly subtle combination of "meow" and "oui".
* PunchClockVillain: She shows displeasure at the more ambiguous moral choices she has to make as the leader of the Special Ops. [[spoiler:When Bruno dies, she quickly makes a HeelFaceTurn.]]
* SpikesOfVillainy: Her suit includes lines of spines along her [[FanService breasts and hips]] as well as on her arms.

* SwordAndGun: Calua's mecha wields a halberd in one hand and a gun in the other. [[AwesomeButImpractical This actually makes him easier to deal with, since it gives you more ways of damaging him, and he only uses the weapons seperately.]]
* ThrowAwayGuns: When you toss Calua's bullets back at him, he'll drop his gun. You can grab it and shoot it two or three times before it runs out of ammo, at which point Red will simply chuck the whole gun. It disappears, and Calua quickly produces another to continue shooting.

----

* ADayInTheLimelight: [[spoiler:He's the main focus of [[VideoGame/FugaMelodiesOfSteel "Comedies Of Steel"]]'s final episode (though he's simply referred to as "The Hooded Man" for legal reasons).]]
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: While Baion does want to use the Titano-Machina to further his goals, that's the only similarity he has with Fool and Bruno. Those two were motivated by greed who wanted to use the power of The Iron Giant and Lares to subjugate all life on the planet. Baion believes his actions to be an extention of the gods and wants to use Lares and Lemures to ''kill'' everyone. He also doesn't have (or need) the backings of {{Sky Pirate}}s or PrivateMilitaryContractors for his dirty work, he and his children are more than capable of leveling an entire city themselves.

He relents, and tells Red that, while they get a reprieve this time, he ''will'' be watching them.]]
* AGodAmI: Because he sees [[spoiler:all of humanity and its descendants]] the Caninu and Felineko as failures, he feels like a god in comparison.
* GreaterScopeVillain: He is dangerous on a much larger scale than Bruno, but does not actively pursue the protagonists as Bruno did.
* HalfHumanHybrid: [[spoiler:The original hybrid.]]
* HumanPopsicle: He was in a state of suspended animation for quite some time, though how long is debateable.
* KickTheDog: He casually mentions how he destroyed Ragdoll, a Felineko village and [[spoiler:the hometown of Elh and Béluga.]]
* KillItWithFire: His MiniMecha is specialized in this.
* KnightOfCerebus: While the first half of the game did teter into dark elements, it was still mostly a light-hearted story. Baion exists to further raise the stakes and show the player that the world is not all sunshine and rainbows by threatening global genocide.
* LukeIAmYourFather: Biologically, [[spoiler:Red is the son of Merveille Million and Baion. No InterspeciesRomance was involved, though]].
* MiniMecha: Pilots one.
* NamedWeapons: His mecha is named [=BERIUS P-2=].
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: He woke up from [[HumanPopsicle suspended animation]] 350 years ago, but it's unclear how long he had already lived before that.
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue to Bruno's red.
* SpikesOfVillainy: His hair is quite spiky.
* VileVillainSaccharineShow: Before him, Fool and Bruno were quite devious on their own, but the tone of ''Tail Concerto'' made him come across as LaughablyEvil on top of being a DirtyCoward who Waffle doesn't fight directly, and Bruno's intimidation wears off when you realize he never really had a motive for committing his crimes. '''None of this''' applies to Baion, who's ruthlessness was showcased before the events of the game [[spoiler:when he burned Elh's and Beluga's home town of Ragdoll down to a crisp so they wouldn't interfere with his plans, treated the Hybrids he helped create with his own DNA as assets that can be replaced as shown when he tried to have Red killed at a young age along with the escaped Carmine and Rose, and is so dedicated to the Juno that he quickly wrote off the Caninus and Felinekos as failures deemed less than humans and came dangerously close to committing genocide against the world as a result]]. Needless to say, every scene involving Baion is played as seriously as it can get.
* VillainHasAPoint: [[spoiler:His reasoning that Caninus and Felinekos are no different from humans of the Old World seems to hold more weight when you take into consideration [[GreatOffscreenWar The Hundred Lillies War]], [[FantasticRacism the motivations]] of the Black Cats Gang's antics in ''Tail Concerto'', as well as everything that went down in ''Fuga: Melodies of Steel.'']]
* VillainRespect: [[spoiler:It takes getting the crap beaten out of him, but Baion eventually relents and truly refers to Red as his son upon seeing the strength of his defiance.]]
* WalkingSpoiler: The fact that he replaces Bruno for the game's villain is a pretty big spoiler on its own, to say nothing of his origin and motives.
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: He asks Red and Elh if they think [[spoiler:humans would find the Caninu and Felineko races to be suitable successors to planet Earth]] when he meets them in the Futzu Tower.
* WritingAroundTrademarks: [[spoiler:Despite ''Fuga'' taking place within the same world as ''Solatorobo'', Bandai Namco's partial ownership over the ''Little Tail Bronx'' franchise prevents [=CyberConnect2=] from explicitly stating his name or even his character design, as his eyes and body has to remain obscured at all times and is exclusively referred to as "The Hooded Man". "Comedies of Steel" makes fun of this, but it's hard not to imagine a sense of frustration within the writing staff whenever they resort to doing this.]]
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Despite the more common example of the trope where the BigBad outright kills the poor minion, [[spoiler:Baion merely lets Nero and Blanck do whatever they want after telling them this. Considering his plan involves destroying all sentient life and the fact that Nero and Blanck are implied to lose all their special abilities after completing their duties, this trope is still played fairly straight.]]

!!Blanck

[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/solatorobo_blanckTVT_8403.jpg]]

One of a pair of hybrids [[CreatingLife created by]] [[spoiler:Merveille]]. He believes it is his right to kill and destroy the Caninu and Felineko, along with his sister Nero.

-----
* AxCrazy: Would do nothing but kill and destroy if Nero wasn’t holding him back.
* TheBattleDidntCount: With Nero, the first battle versus them outside their robots. After getting them to half health, they just say they're tired of playing around and just shoot a huge, undodgeable fireball at you.
* BrotherSisterTeam: With Nero, an evil counterpart to Red and Chocolat. Bonus points for [[spoiler:being related to [[HappilyAdopted half]] of the good team]].
* CainAndAbel: He and Nero are the Cain to Red's Abel.
* ColourfulThemeNaming: Blanck means "white" to Nero’s "black"
* CombiningMecha: Zairita and Srvara (Nero and Blanck's mechas respectively) can combine together to make another, more powerful mecha: The Cassandra Cross. [[spoiler:Also the Septentrion, combining Red's Dahak, Nero's Zairita, and Blanck's Srvara.]]
* CripplingOverSpecialization: What Merveille says is wrong with him and his sister, as though they live for [[spoiler:The Order]] and can perfectly perform their one duty of [[spoiler:controlling Lares and Lemures]], once that duty is fulfilled, they have no reason to exist.
* {{Expy}}: Heavily resembles [[Franchise/NeonGenesisEvangelion Kaworu]]. [[spoiler: To the point the protagonist, i.e. Red, ends up killing him.]] His clothes also bear a resemblance to Rei's plugsuit.
* UhOhEyes: Blanck's are orange, and may fall under either trope depending on which you see them as being closer to.
* FacialMarkings: He's got strange blue lines on his face.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: Acts as an evil counterpart to Red in this way, held in line by Nero like how Red is held in line by Chocolat.
* HalfHumanHybrid
* HeelFaceDoorSlam: [[spoiler:After turning into Caninu and realizing Baion has no more use for them Merveille offers Nero and Blanck a chance to join the heroes and start a new life for themselves. Before they get the chance however Baion gives Red the Order and he unintentionally kills them.]]
* KarmicDeath: He makes his first appearance wreaking havoc in the major city of Pharaoh, just because he feels superior to everyone else for being {{Kemono}}. After beating the last boss battle with them, [[spoiler:The Order happens and he turn into a Caninu himself. Before Red and Merveille can convince him to perform a HeelFaceTurn, the Order forces Red into his human form to destroy all life. He and Nero become his first (and luckily only) victims]].
* NotQuiteDead: In a DLC quest, it is revealed that [[spoiler:some memories of Nero and Blanck still live within Red, and Merveille says she will attempt to restore them into physical bodies.]]
* KickTheDog: Almost literally. We are introduced to him and Nero casually attacking the kemono people, to the point of threatening the life of a lost little Caninu boy.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:At first played straight, but then subverted in a DLC quest.]]
* KnightOfCerebus: The very first thing he and Nero do in the story is graze an entire city unprovoked and effortlessly wreck Red and destroy his DAHAK.
* LivingMemory: [[spoiler:After Red kills him and Nero, they make an appearance at the end of the game to help him out, and again appear in DLC quests as fragments of memory inside Red and Dahak.]]
* MeaningfulName: Blanck (white) paired with Nero (black) represent Yin and Yang. His mech is named for Azi Sruvara, a dragon in Iranian folklore.
* MiniMecha: Pilots one
* NamedWeapons: Blanck's is [=SRVARA-AZ101=].
* OmnicidalManiac: Even worse than his sister.
* RedOniBlueOni: Blanck is red and Nero is blue, though their actual color schemes are switched.
* SuperiorSuccessor: To Rouge, which fueled the rivalry between them.
* SoProudOfYou: [[spoiler:He eventually comes to recognize Red as his son and even tells him he's SoProudOfYou proud of him for being able to stand up and convince him to give the Caninu and Felineko another chance.]]
* OneWingedAngel: The final boss battle with him.

* IAmLegion: She talks like this when relaying messages from the Hyper Information Convergence: Juno. She can still speak for herself, however.

* ColourfulThemeNaming
* CombiningMecha: [[spoiler:Septentrion, combining Red's Dahak, Nero's Zairita, and Blanck's Srvara.]]
* EleventhHourSuperpower: Twice:
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Choleric.
* ItAmusedMe:
* MeaningfulName:
* ShipTease: With Elh.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: [[spoiler:During his Trance]].
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer:

* CuteLittleFangs
* DeadpanSnarker: It can't be helped when she has to deal with some of Red's antics.
* EdibleThemeNaming
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Sanguine.
* TheKirk: To Red's [=McCoy=] and Elh's Spock.
* PunnyName: ''Chocolat Gelato''.
* WrenchWench

* BarrierWarrior
* FacialMarkings: Grey cheek stripes.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Melancholic.
* ShipTease: With Red.
* ShowerOfAwkward: Done ''twice''. {{Modesty Towel}}s prevented those moments from being even more awkward.
* TheSpock: To Red's [=McCoy=] and Chocolat's Kirk.
* ThroughAFaceFullOfFur: When she blushes.
* YouDidntAsk: Elh's response when Red and Chocolat ask why she never told them she was a girl.

* FemmeFatalons: Hers are somehow visible through her gloves. A [[http://www.cc2.co.jp/solarobo/4koma/img/28.gif 4koma comic]] pokes fun at her long nails.

* LadyOfWar: She's delicate and graceful woman with a lot of firepower behind her via her mech.
* MeaningfulName: Her mecha is named for a chaotic Babylonian sea goddess which gave birth to monsters. The mecha is capable of spawning small drones which explode.

* PunchClockVillain: She shows displeasure at the more ambiguous moral choices she has to make as the leader of the Special Ops. [[spoiler:When Bruno dies, she quickly makes a HeelFaceTurn.]]

* EvilLaugh: He gets a few.

* HalfHumanHybrid: [[spoiler:The original hybrid.]]
* MiniMecha: Pilots one.
