* DeconstructedCharacterArchetype: Amber is a deconstruction of the Wicked Stepsister. Amber has spent her whole life trying to live up her her image of what the ideal princess should be, giving her deep-seated insecurities about being anything less than perfect, which she masks with a haughty AlphaBitch demeanor. She's instantly jealous of and threatened by Sofia when their parents get married, and feels the need to put Sofia down or embarrass her at every turn because everyone (including, she fears, her father and brother) likes Sofia more despite her not coming close to Amber's standards, not understanding that people like Sofia because she's nice and friendly and doesn't act like she's better than other people. She does eventually realise the error of her ways and accepts Sofia's offer of friendship when Sofia reaches out to her at her lowest moment.

* GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak: Sofia isn't quite as girly as her stepsister Amber, but she's definitely not a tomboy: she has long flowing hair, wears violet and pink dresses and tiaras, likes dancing, loves cute animals, and has a lot of traditionally feminine interests. However, she also enjoys doing "princely things" and playing with boys sometimes, and is much more willing to take physical risks than a typical PrincessClassic, without being a full-on ActionGirl; and is also the only princess ever to try out for and earn a spot in Royal Prep's flying derby team.

* CreateYourOwnVillain: Roland and Cedric were childhood friends, but after the Sorceress Ball incident, Roland kept putting him down and treating him like a joke, driving Cedric to seek the throne.

* EasilyForgiven: Zigzagged. [[spoiler:When he was arrested for his attempted coup in "Day of the Sorcerers", Sofia, though mad at him, was already pleading with Roland that arresting Cedric was a mistake. When Grimtrix attempts to complete the coup, Cedric turns on him. Because of this, Roland doesn't have him returned to the dungeon. However, Roland was more than ready to banish Cedric until Sofia and Miranda pleaded on the humbled sorcerer's behalf. Roland does acknowledge he hasn't been giving Cedric enough respect and allows him to return to his position as Royal Sorcerer, but on the condition that he forever remember that he owes his job to Sofia. Cedric soon returns the favor to Sofia by making her his permanent apprentice. It then takes Roland a number of episodes to truly forgive Cedric, though he does when the Sorcerer saves Sofia's life.]]
