It isn't until the THIRD upcoming game that he finally becomes a full-blown grown man, gets past his JamesBondage tendencies and is now punching people out on the guts with his fist. He successfully slays Hideyoshi, but then had to deal with Hideyoshi's fanatical follower Ishida Mitsunari, his old friend, leading up to the decisive battle at Sekigahara.

* HistoricalHeroUpgrade: Basara is probably the only series so far to make Ieyasu the OnlySaneMan amongst the evil past unifiers. Not to mention quite the {{Bishonen}} rather than a fat, old turd.

* JapanesePronouns: He likes referring to himself like an old man (using 'washi') despite his age and size. [[spoiler: He still uses it when he grows up in ''3''.]]

** In the anime Yukimura seems to finally learn the lesson, and while his dream of the future still includes Shingen, he exclaims "I'm not going to be a tiger cub forever! One day I'm going to be the tiger of Kai!"

** Fortunately he seems to come over it eventually and come out of it stronger and with newfound self-confidence.

* HeroicBSOD: Happens in the anime [[spoiler:after Shingen is supposedly killed]]. Masamune and Kojuurou are forced to knock some sense into him with a manly RousingSpeech. Also occurs in Samurai Heroes for the exact same reason. Ends in relatively the same way.

* SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism: He's firmly on the side of Idealism and believes that everyone can be reasoned with. Even before Hideyoshi came into the picture, he had tried to talk ''[[CardCarryingEvil Oda Nobunaga]]'' out of his plans, and later he risks his life trying to get Mouri and Motochika work together against Oda.

* TechnicalPacifist: Though he dislikes killing, it seems he's still up for a good fight.
