* AdaptationalJerkass: While Envy seems to get her act together after Todd is defeated, Envy is portrayed as much colder towards Scott. Probably justified, given her limited time to interact with him. See DemotedToExtra below.

%% * AlphaBitch
below. On the flipside, however, she never fights Ramona in this version and only throws a few passive-aggressive remarks her way rather than engage in a full-blown rivalry.

* AdaptationalNiceGuy: While still overall a controlling and abusive JerkAss, he doesn't capture his exes and trap them in cryosleep in the movie and seems to only want Ramona back by his side. His recruiting of Sex-Bob-Omb also seemed genuine.
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange: In the comic, Gideon mind controls people through The Glow, a psychic corruption that brings the worst out in its victims and allows him to manipulate their memories. In the movie Gideon uses a microchip to mind control Ramona and old-fashioned money to control Sex Bob-Omb instead.

* DefeatMeansFriendship: Inverted. Scott "defeats" him by [[TalkingTheMonsterToDeath becoming his friend.]]

Not Berserk Button examples.

* BerserkButton:
** He gets pretty pissed off when Todd punches Knives.
** He doesn't get ''angry'', but if somebody comments on his hair, he immediately becomes self-conscious and puts on a hat.

* TokenMuggle: The only main cast member who is neither a musician or a trained fighter, as Kieran Culkin [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbY5zIX22WI noted]]. He also never develops his book counterpart's mild supernatural abilities due to the movie being a PragmaticAdaptation that focused on Scott and Ramona's relationship rather than an ensemble of TrueCompanions.

* TheVoiceless: They have no lines in the film (losing their backstory and personalities entirely in the process) because their actors didn't speak English, whereas in the comic book, they have a lot of lines. So the whole robot theme from the book is replaced with "amp to amp battle" where their holographic twin dragons fight against Sex Bob-omb's holographic giant ogre. It helps that the amp battle was based on [[WhatCouldHaveBeen the original draft of Volume 5]] that the filmmakers were given.
