But then he absorbed the Sloth Factor in order to have a chance against Pandora and Regulus, even though he knew that he was incompatible. What exactly they are hoping to gain from this is unclear, but at least Petelgeuse personally seems to believe he will be "rewarded" for freeing his beloved Witch. However, as more factions of the Cult are showcased, it becomes clear that Petelgeuse's zealots are more of an exception than the rule. In general, the other Archbishops and their subordinates seem to mostly enjoy the benefits that possesing Authorities and Gospels brings them, and only carry out the orders appearing in the Gospels because they believe them to be guides towards personal success. None of the others care for Satella, some even actively despise her, and only see their membership as a convenient means to their own ends. Roy thinks he'd be an interesting meal, and Louis becomes obsessed with possessing Subaru once she [[spoiler: eats his name and finds out about Return By Death, believing it to be the key to her desire to live a perfect life]].

** During the aftermath of the Witch Cult's attack on Pricilla, Subaru is initially relieved that nobody died or was lost from the fighting, [[spoiler: though not everybody survived entirely [[AnArmAndALeg unscathed]]]], only to panic when he's told about Roy's existence, realising that there was another person running around with the ability to Eat names and erase the victims from everybody's minds but his, meaning his allies wouldn't even know they'd lost some members. Sure enough, [[spoiler: though he's not as badly off as Rem, Julius's name was also eaten, erasing him from Anastasia's mind]].

* GlassCannon: He is capable of killing anyone no matter how tough their body is, so long as his Unseen Hands can grab them. However, his body and [[spoiler: and the bodies of the followers he can possess]] are otherwise normal and can be easily killed, provided his opponent can avoid being killed long enough to get into range.
* GodzillaThreshold: [[spoiler: Knowing full well that he stood no chance against both Regulus and Pandora, but still determined to keep them away from Fortuna and Emilia, Petelgeuse absorbed the Authority of Sloth. He knew that he was incompatible and that the effects of him doing so would be anything but good, but he still did so anyway. It is played tragically as, despite his sacrifice, he ended up killing Fortuna and the trauma from this, alongside the Authority's dark nature, eventually turned him into a raging lunatic that would spend the next one hundred years slaughtering countless towns.]]

* NightmareHands: Betelgeuse has this as a superpower, his "Unseen Hands" can also turn invisible, but are generally represented as black and demonic.
